Darby's Translation

Ezra

4

1 Pan glywodd gelynion Jwda a Benjamin fod y rhai oedd wedi bod yn y gaethglud yn adeiladu teml i ARGLWYDD Dduw Israel,
1And the adversaries of Judah and Benjamin heard that the children of the captivity were building the temple to Jehovah the God of Israel;
2 daethant at Sorobabel a'r pennau-teuluoedd a dweud wrthynt: "Gadewch i ni adeiladu gyda chwi, oherwydd yr ydym ni yn addoli eich Duw fel chwithau, ac iddo ef yr ydym wedi aberthu er amser Esarhadon brenin Asyria, a ddaeth ni yma."
2and they came to Zerubbabel and to the chief fathers, and said to them, We would build with you; for we seek your God, as ye; and we have sacrificed to him since the days of Esar-haddon king of Assyria, who brought us up hither.
3 Ond dywedodd Sorobabel a Jesua a gweddill pennau-teuluoedd Israel:"Ni chewch chwi ran yn y gwaith o adeiladu tu375? i'n Duw; ni yn unig sydd i adeiladu i ARGLWYDD Dduw Israel, fel y gorchmynnodd Cyrus brenin Persia i ni."
3But Zerubbabel and Jeshua and the rest of the chief fathers of Israel said to them, Ye have nothing to do with us to build a house to our God, but we alone will build to Jehovah the God of Israel, as king Cyrus, the king of Persia, has commanded us.
4 Yna dechreuodd pobl y wlad ddigalonni pobl Jwda a pheri iddynt ofni adeiladu;
4And the people of the land weakened the hands of the people of Judah, and troubled them in building;
5 a holl ddyddiau Cyrus brenin Persia hyd at deyrnasiad Dareius brenin Persia cyflogasant gynghorwyr llys yn eu herbyn i ddrysu eu bwriad.
5and they hired counsellors against them, to frustrate their purpose, all the days of Cyrus king of Persia, even until the reign of Darius king of Persia.
6 Yn nechrau teyrnasiad Ahasferus gwnaethant gyhuddiad ysgrifenedig yn erbyn preswylwyr Jwda a Jerwsalem.
6And in the reign of Ahasuerus, in the beginning of his reign, they wrote an accusation against the inhabitants of Judah and Jerusalem.
7 Hefyd yn amser Artaxerxes ysgrifen-nodd Bislam, Mithredath, Tabeel a'r gweddill o'u cefnogwyr at Artaxerxes brenin Persia; yr oedd y llythyr wedi ei ysgrifennu mewn Aramaeg, a dyma'i gynnwys mewn Aramaeg.
7And in the days of Artaxerxes, Bishlam, Mithredath, Tabeel, and the rest of his companions, wrote to Artaxerxes king of Persia; and the writing of the letter was written in Aramaic, and interpreted in Aramaic.
8 Rehum y rhaglaw a Simsai yr ysgrifennydd a ysgrifennodd y llythyr hwn at Artaxerxes y brenin ynglu375?n Jerwsalem:
8Rehum the chancellor and Shimshai the scribe wrote a letter against Jerusalem to Artaxerxes the king after this sort:
9 "Oddi wrth y rhaglaw Rehum a'r ysgrifennydd Simsai a'r gweddill o'u cefnogwyr, y barnwyr, y penaethiaid, y goruchwylwyr, y swyddogion; hefyd pobl Erech a Babilon, a'r Elamitiaid o Susa,
9Rehum the chancellor, and Shimshai the scribe, and the rest of their companions, the Dinaites, and the Apharsathchites, the Tarpelites, the Apharsites, the Archevites, the Babylonians, the Shushanchites, the Dehaites, the Elamites,
10 a phawb arall a alltudiodd Asnappar fawr ac enwog a'u gosod yn nhref Samaria ac yng ngweddill talaith Tu-hwnt-i'r-Ewffrates."
10and the rest of the peoples whom the great and noble Osnappar brought over and settled in the cities of Samaria, and the rest [of the country] on this side the river, and so forth.
11 Yn awr dyma gynnwys y llythyr a anfonasant ato: "I'r Brenin Artaxerxes oddi wrth dy ddeiliaid, pobl talaith Tu-hwnt-i'r-Ewffrates.
11This is the copy of the letter that they sent to him: To Artaxerxes the king: Thy servants the men on this side the river, and so forth.
12 Bydded hysbys i'r brenin fod yr Iddewon a ddaeth atom oddi wrthyt wedi cyrraedd Jerwsalem; y maent yn ailgodi'r ddinas wrthryfelgar a drwg, yn cyfannu'r muriau ac yn atgyweirio'r sylfeini.
12Be it known to the king that the Jews who came up from thee unto us have come to Jerusalem; they are building the rebellious and the bad city, and they complete the walls and join up the foundations.
13 Yn awr bydded hysbys i'r brenin, os ailadeiledir y ddinas hon a gorffen ei muriau, ni thalant na threth, na theyrnged, na tholl; a bydd hyn yn sicr o amharu ar les y brenin.
13Be it known therefore unto the king, that, if this city be built and the walls be completed, they will not pay tribute, tax, and toll, and in the end it will bring damage to the kings.
14 Felly, am ein bod ni yn cael ein cynnal gan lys y brenin, ac am nad yw'n weddus i ni fod yn dystion o'r amarch hwn tuag at y brenin, yr ydym yn anfon gair at y brenin,
14Now, since we eat the salt of the palace, and it is not right for us to see the king's injury, therefore have we sent and informed the king;
15 er mwyn iti chwilio yn llyfr cofnodion dy ragflaenwyr. Fe weli oddi wrth lyfr y cofnodion mai dinas wrthryfelgar fu hon, andwyol i frenhinoedd a thaleithiau, a bod gwrthryfel yn nodwedd arni ers amser maith. Dyna pam y dinistriwyd y ddinas.
15that search may be made in the book of the annals of thy fathers: so shalt thou find in the book of the annals and know that this city is a rebellious city, which has done damage to kings and provinces, and that they have raised sedition within the same of old time, for which cause this city was destroyed.
16 Yr ydym yn hysbysu'r brenin, os adeiledir y ddinas hon a gorffen ei muriau, ni fydd gennyt diriogaeth yn nhalaith Tu-hwnt-i'r-Ewffrates."
16We inform the king that if this city be built and its walls be completed, by this means thou shalt have no portion on this side the river.
17 Dyma ateb y brenin: "At Rehum y rhaglaw a Simsai yr ysgrifennydd a'r gweddill o'u cefnogwyr sy'n byw yn Samaria ac ym mhob rhan o dalaith Tu-hwnt-i'r-Ewffrates, cyfarchion!
17The king sent an answer to Rehum the chancellor, and Shimshai the scribe, and the rest of their companions that dwell in Samaria, and the other places beyond the river: Peace, and so forth.
18 Fe gyfieithwyd y llythyr a anfonasoch a'i ddarllen yn fy ngu373?ydd.
18The letter that ye sent to us has been read before me distinctly.
19 Ar fy ngorchymyn gwnaethpwyd ymchwiliad, a darganfod i'r ddinas hon wrthryfela yn erbyn brenhinoedd ers amser maith, a bod brad a gwrthryfel wedi codi ynddi.
19And I gave orders, and search has been made, and it has been found that this city of old time has made insurrection against the kings, and that rebellion and sedition have been raised therein.
20 Bu brenhinoedd cryfion yn teyrnasu dros Jerwsalem a thros holl dalaith Tu-hwnt-i'r-Ewffrates, a rhoddwyd iddynt dreth, teyrnged a tholl.
20And there have been mighty kings over Jerusalem, who have ruled over all beyond the river; and tribute, tax, and toll were paid to them.
21 Felly gorchmynnwch i'r dynion hyn beidio ag ailadeiladu'r ddinas nes cael caniatd gennyf fi.
21Now give order to make these men to cease, and that this city be not built, until the order shall be given from me;
22 Gofalwch beidio bod yn esgeulus yn hyn o beth, rhag i'r frenhiniaeth gael niwed pellach."
22and take heed that ye fail not to do this: why should harm grow to the damage of the kings?
23 Yna, pan ddarllenwyd copi o lythyr Artaxerxes i Rehum a Simsai yr ysgrifennydd a'u cefnogwyr, aethant ar frys at yr Iddewon yn Jerwsalem a thrwy nerth braich eu rhwystro rhag gweithio.
23As soon as the copy of king Artaxerxes' letter was read before Rehum, and Shimshai the scribe, and their companions, they went up in haste to Jerusalem to the Jews, and made them cease by force and power.
24 Felly yr ataliwyd y gwaith ar du375? Dduw yn Jerwsalem; a bu'n sefyll hyd ail flwyddyn teyrnasiad Dareius brenin Persia.
24Then ceased the work of the house of God which is at Jerusalem; and it ceased until the second year of the reign of Darius king of Persia.
