Darby's Translation

Joshua

9

1 Pan glywodd yr holl frenhinoedd y tu hwnt i'r Iorddonen, yn y mynydd-dir a'r Seffela ac arfordir y Mr Mawr wrth Lebanon, yn Hethiaid, Amoriaid, Canaaneaid, Peresiaid a Jebusiaid,
1And it came to pass when all the kings who were on this side the Jordan, in the hill-country, and in the lowland, and along all the coast of the great sea as far as opposite to Lebanon, the Hittite, and the Amorite, the Canaanite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite, heard [of it],
2 daethant ynghyd fel un i ryfela yn erbyn Josua ac Israel.
2that they assembled together, to fight with Joshua and with Israel, with one accord.
3 Pan glywodd trigolion Gibeon yr hyn yr oedd Josua wedi ei wneud i Jericho ac Ai,
3And when the inhabitants of Gibeon heard what Joshua had done to Jericho and to Ai,
4 dyma hwythau'n gweithredu'n gyfrwys. Aethant a darparu bwyd, a llwytho'u hasynnod hen sachau, a hen wingrwyn tyllog wedi eu trwsio.
4then they also acted with craft, and they went prepared as on a journey, and took old sacks upon their asses, and wine-flasks, old and rent and tied up;
5 Rhoesant am eu traed hen sandalau wedi eu clytio, a hen ddillad amdanynt; a bara wedi sychu a llwydo oedd eu bwyd.
5and old and patched sandals upon their feet, and old garments upon them; and all the bread of their provision was dry [and] mouldy.
6 Yna daethant at Josua i wersyll Gilgal, a dweud wrtho ef a phobl Israel, "Yr ydym wedi dod o wlad bell; felly gwnewch gyfamod ni'n awr."
6And they went to Joshua unto the camp at Gilgal, and said to him, and to the men of Israel, From a far country are we come; and now make a covenant with us.
7 Ond meddai pobl Israel wrth yr Hefiaid, "Efallai eich bod yn byw yn ein hymyl, ac os felly, sut y gwnawn ni gyfamod chwi?"
7And the men of Israel said to the Hivite, Perhaps thou dwellest in the midst of us, and how should I make a covenant with thee?
8 Dywedasant wrth Josua, "Dy weision di ydym." Pan ofynnodd Josua iddynt, "Pwy ydych, ac o ble y daethoch?",
8And they said unto Joshua, We are thy servants. And Joshua said to them, Who are ye? and from whence come ye?
9 atebasant, "Y mae dy weision wedi dod o wlad bell iawn o achos enw'r ARGLWYDD dy Dduw; oblegid clywsom sn amdano ef, ac am y cwbl a wnaeth yn yr Aifft,
9And they said to him, From a very far country are thy servants come, because of the name of Jehovah thy God; for we have heard the fame of him, and all that he did in Egypt,
10 ac i ddau frenin yr Amoriaid y tu hwnt i'r Iorddonen, Sehon brenin Hesbon ac Og brenin Basan, a drigai yn Astaroth.
10and all that he did to the two kings of the Amorites that were beyond Jordan, to Sihon the king of Heshbon, and to Og the king of Bashan, who was at Ashtaroth.
11 Am hynny dywedodd ein henuriaid a holl drigolion ein gwlad wrthym, 'Cymerwch fwyd ar gyfer y daith ac ewch i'w cyfarfod, a dywedwch wrthynt, "Eich gweision ydym; felly'n awr gwnewch gyfamod ni."'
11And our elders and all the inhabitants of our country spoke to us, saying, Take victuals in your hand for the way, and go to meet them, and say to them, We are your servants, and now make a covenant with us.
12 Dyma'n bara; yr oedd yn boeth pan oeddem yn darparu i fynd oddi cartref, y diwrnod yr oeddem yn cychwyn i ddod atoch. Edrychwch fel y mae'n awr wedi sychu a llwydo.
12This our bread we took warm for our provision out of our houses on the day we came forth to go unto you; and now, behold, it is dry, and is become mouldy.
13 A dyma'r gwingrwyn oedd yn newydd pan lanwasom hwy; edrychwch, y maent wedi rhwygo. A dyma'n dillad a'n sandalau wedi treulio gan bellter mawr y daith."
13And these flasks of wine which we filled new, behold, they are rent; and these our garments and our sandals are become old by reason of the very long journey.
14 Cymerodd pobl Israel beth o'u bwyd heb ymgynghori 'r ARGLWYDD.
14And the men took of their victuals, but they did not inquire at the mouth of Jehovah.
15 Gwnaeth Josua heddwch hwy, a gwneud cyfamod i'w harbed, a thyngodd arweinwyr y gynulleidfa iddynt.
15And Joshua made peace with them, and made a covenant with them, to let them live; and the princes of the assembly swore unto them.
16 Ymhen tridiau wedi iddynt wneud y cyfamod hwy, clywsant mai cymdogion yn byw yn eu hymyl oeddent.
16And it came to pass at the end of three days after they had made a covenant with them, that they heard that they were their neighbours, and that they dwelt in their midst.
17 Wrth i'r Israeliaid deithio ymlaen, daethant ar y trydydd dydd i'w trefi hwy, Gibeon, Ceffira, Beeroth a Ciriath-jearim.
17And the children of Israel journeyed, and came to their cities on the third day; and their cities were Gibeon, and Chephirah, and Beeroth, and Kirjath-jearim.
18 Ond nid ymosododd yr Israeliaid arnynt, oherwydd bod arweinwyr y gynulleidfa wedi tyngu iddynt yn enw'r ARGLWYDD, Duw Israel, er i'r holl gynulleidfa rwgnach yn erbyn yr arweinwyr.
18And the children of Israel did not smite them, because the princes of the assembly had sworn unto them by Jehovah the God of Israel. Then all the assembly murmured against the princes.
19 Ond dywedodd yr holl arweinwyr wrth y gynulleidfa gyfan, "Yr ydym ni wedi tyngu iddynt yn enw'r ARGLWYDD, Duw Israel, ac yn awr ni allwn gyffwrdd hwy.
19And all the princes said to all the assembly, We have sworn unto them by Jehovah the God of Israel, and now we may not touch them.
20 Dyma a wnawn iddynt: arbedwn eu bywydau, rhag i ddigofaint ddisgyn arnom oherwydd y llw a dyngasom."
20This we will do to them, and let them live, lest wrath come upon us, because of the oath which we swore unto them.
21 Ac meddai'r arweinwyr wrthynt, "Cnt fyw, er mwyn iddynt dorri coed a thynnu du373?r i'r holl gynulleidfa." Cytunodd yr holl gynulleidfa 'r hyn a ddywedodd yr arweinwyr.
21And the princes said to them, Let them live. And they were hewers of wood and drawers of water for all the assembly; as the princes had said to them.
22 Galwodd Josua arnynt a dweud wrthynt, "Pam y bu ichwi ein twyllo a honni eich bod yn byw yn bell iawn i ffwrdd oddi wrthym, a chwithau'n byw yn ein hymyl?
22And Joshua called for them, and he spoke to them, saying, Why have ye deceived us, saying, We are very far from you; whereas ye dwell in our midst?
23 Yn awr yr ydych dan y felltith hon: bydd gweision o'ch plith yn barhaol yn torri coed ac yn tynnu du373?r ar gyfer tu375? fy Nuw."
23And now ye are cursed, and ye shall never cease to be bondmen, and hewers of wood, and drawers of water for the house of my God.
24 Atebasant Josua fel hyn: "Fe ddywedwyd yn glir wrthym ni, dy weision, fod yr ARGLWYDD dy Dduw wedi gorchymyn i'w was Moses roi i chwi y wlad gyfan, a distrywio o'ch blaen ei holl drigolion; am hynny yr oedd arnom ofn mawr am ein heinioes o'ch plegid, a dyna pam y gwnaethom hyn.
24And they answered Joshua and said, Because it was certainly told thy servants how that Jehovah thy God commanded his servant Moses to give you all the land, and to destroy all the inhabitants of the land from before you; and we feared greatly for our lives because of you, and did this thing.
25 Yr ydym yn awr yn dy law; gwna inni yr hyn yr wyt ti'n ei dybio sy'n iawn."
25And now behold, we are in thy hand: as it is good and right in thine eyes to do to us, do.
26 A dyna a wnaeth Josua iddynt y diwrnod hwnnw: fe'u hachubodd o law'r Israeliaid rhag iddynt eu lladd,
26And he did so to them, and delivered them out of the hand of the children of Israel, and they did not slay them.
27 a'u gosod i dorri coed ac i dynnu du373?r i'r gynulleidfa ar gyfer allor yr ARGLWYDD yn y lle a ddewisai ef; ac felly y maent hyd heddiw.
27And Joshua made them that day hewers of wood and drawers of water for the assembly, and for the altar of Jehovah, to this day, in the place which he should choose.
