1 Dywedodd Samuel wrth Saul, "Anfonwyd fi gan yr ARGLWYDD i'th eneinio'n frenin ar ei bobl Israel; felly gwrando'n awr ar eiriau'r ARGLWYDD.
1Samuel said to Saul, “Yahweh sent me to anoint you to be king over his people, over Israel. Now therefore listen to the voice of the words of Yahweh.
2 Fel hyn y dywed ARGLWYDD y Lluoedd: 'Yr wyf am gosbi Amalec am yr hyn a wnaeth i Israel, sef eu rhwystro hwy ar y ffordd wrth iddynt ddod i fyny o'r Aifft.'
2Thus says Yahweh of Armies, ‘I have marked that which Amalek did to Israel, how he set himself against him in the way, when he came up out of Egypt.
3 Dos, yn awr, a tharo'r Amaleciaid, a'u llwyr ddinistrio hwy a phopeth sydd ganddynt; paid 'u harbed, ond lladd bob dyn a dynes, pob plentyn a baban, pob eidion a dafad, pob camel ac asyn."
3Now go and strike Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and don’t spare them; but kill both man and woman, infant and nursing baby, ox and sheep, camel and donkey.’”
4 Felly galwodd Saul y fyddin allan a'u rhestru yn Telaim. Yr oedd dau gan mil o wu375?r traed, a deng mil o ddynion Jwda.
4Saul summoned the people, and numbered them in Telaim, two hundred thousand footmen, and ten thousand men of Judah.
5 Pan ddaeth Saul at ddinas yr Amaleciaid, ymguddiodd mewn cwm,
5Saul came to the city of Amalek, and laid wait in the valley.
6 a dweud wrth y Ceneaid, "Ewch i ffwrdd, cefnwch ar yr Amaleciaid, rhag imi eich distrywio chwi gyda hwy; oherwydd buoch chwi'n garedig wrth yr holl Israeliaid pan oeddent yn dod i fyny o'r Aifft." Aeth y Ceneaid ymaith oddi wrth yr Amaleciaid;
6Saul said to the Kenites, “Go, depart, go down from among the Amalekites, lest I destroy you with them; for you showed kindness to all the children of Israel, when they came up out of Egypt.” So the Kenites departed from among the Amalekites.
7 yna trawodd Saul Amalec o Hafila hyd at Sur ar gwr yr Aifft.
7Saul struck the Amalekites, from Havilah as you go to Shur, that is before Egypt.
8 Daliodd Agag brenin Amalec yn fyw, ond lladdodd y bobl i gyd 'r cleddyf.
8He took Agag the king of the Amalekites alive, and utterly destroyed all the people with the edge of the sword.
9 Arbedodd Saul a'r fyddin nid yn unig Agag, ond hefyd y gorau o'r defaid a'r gwartheg, yr anifeiliaid breision a'r u373?yn, a phopeth o werth. Nid oeddent yn fodlon difa'r rheini; ond difodwyd popeth gwael a diwerth.
9But Saul and the people spared Agag, and the best of the sheep, and of the cattle, and of the fatlings, and the lambs, and all that was good, and wouldn’t utterly destroy them: but everything that was vile and refuse, that they destroyed utterly.
10 Yna daeth gair yr ARGLWYDD at Samuel, yn dweud,
10Then the word of Yahweh came to Samuel, saying,
11 "Y mae'n edifar gennyf fy mod wedi gwneud Saul yn frenin, oherwydd y mae wedi cefnu arnaf a heb gadw fy ngorchymyn." Digiodd Samuel, a galwodd ar yr ARGLWYDD drwy'r nos.
11“It grieves me that I have set up Saul to be king; for he is turned back from following me, and has not performed my commandments.” Samuel was angry; and he cried to Yahweh all night.
12 Bore trannoeth cododd yn gynnar i gyfarfod Saul, ond dywedwyd wrtho fod Saul wedi mynd i Garmel, ac wedi codi cofeb iddo'i hun yno cyn troi'n l a mynd draw i Gilgal.
12Samuel rose early to meet Saul in the morning; and it was told Samuel, saying, “Saul came to Carmel, and behold, he set up a monument for himself, and turned, and passed on, and went down to Gilgal.”
13 Wedi i Samuel ddod o hyd i Saul, dywedodd Saul wrtho, "Bendith yr ARGLWYDD arnat! Yr wyf wedi cadw gorchymyn yr ARGLWYDD."
13Samuel came to Saul; and Saul said to him, “You are blessed by Yahweh! I have performed the commandment of Yahweh.”
14 Gofynnodd Samuel, "Beth ynteu yw'r brefu defaid sydd yn fy nghlustiau, a'r su373?n gwartheg yr wyf yn ei glywed?"
14Samuel said, “Then what does this bleating of the sheep in my ears, and the lowing of the cattle which I hear mean?”
15 Dywedodd Saul, "Y bobl sydd wedi dod hwy oddi wrth yr Amaleciaid, oherwydd y maent wedi arbed y gorau o'r defaid a'r gwartheg er mwyn aberthu i'r ARGLWYDD dy Dduw. Yr ydym wedi difa'r gweddill."
15Saul said, “They have brought them from the Amalekites; for the people spared the best of the sheep and of the cattle, to sacrifice to Yahweh your God. We have utterly destroyed the rest.”
16 Dywedodd Samuel wrth Saul, "Taw, imi gael dweud wrthyt beth a ddywedodd yr ARGLWYDD wrthyf neithiwr." Meddai yntau wrtho, "Dywed."
16Then Samuel said to Saul, “Stay, and I will tell you what Yahweh has said to me last night.” He said to him, “Say on.”
17 A dywedodd Samuel, "Er iti fod yn fychan yn d'olwg dy hun, oni ddaethost yn ben ar lwythau Israel, a'r ARGLWYDD wedi d'eneinio'n frenin ar Israel?
17Samuel said, “Though you were little in your own sight, weren’t you made the head of the tribes of Israel? Yahweh anointed you king over Israel;
18 Fe anfonodd yr ARGLWYDD di allan a dweud, 'Dos a difroda'r pechaduriaid hynny, Amalec, a rhyfela hwy nes eu difa.'
18and Yahweh sent you on a journey, and said, ‘Go, and utterly destroy the sinners the Amalekites, and fight against them until they are consumed.’
19 Pam na wrandewaist ar lais yr ARGLWYDD, ond rhuthro ar yr ysbail, a gwneud drwg yng ngolwg yr ARGLWYDD?"
19Why then didn’t you obey the voice of Yahweh, but took the spoils, and did that which was evil in the sight of Yahweh?”
20 Dywedodd Saul wrth Samuel, "Ond yr wyf wedi gwrando ar lais yr ARGLWYDD, a mynd fel yr anfonodd ef fi; deuthum ag Agag brenin Amalec yn l, a difrodi'r Amaleciaid.
20Saul said to Samuel, “But I have obeyed the voice of Yahweh, and have gone the way which Yahweh sent me, and have brought Agag the king of Amalek, and have utterly destroyed the Amalekites.
21 Fe gymerodd y bobl beth o'r ysbail, yn ddefaid a gwartheg, y pigion o'r diofryd, er mwyn aberthu i'r ARGLWYDD dy Dduw yn Gilgal."
21But the people took of the spoil, sheep and cattle, the chief of the devoted things, to sacrifice to Yahweh your God in Gilgal.”
22 Yna dywedodd Samuel: "A oes gan yr ARGLWYDD bleser mewn offrymau ac ebyrth, fel mewn gwrando ar lais yr ARGLWYDD? Gwell gwrando nag aberth, ac ufudd-dod na braster hyrddod.
22Samuel said, “Has Yahweh as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of Yahweh? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to listen than the fat of rams.
23 Yn wir, pechod fel dewiniaeth yw anufudd-dod, a throsedd fel addoli eilunod yw cyndynrwydd. Am i ti wrthod gair yr ARGLWYDD, gwrthododd ef di fel brenin."
23For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as idolatry and teraphim. Because you have rejected the word of Yahweh, he has also rejected you from being king.”
24 Dywedodd Saul wrth Samuel, "Yr wyf wedi pechu, oblegid yr wyf wedi torri gorchymyn yr ARGLWYDD a'th air dithau, am imi ofni'r bobl a gwrando ar eu llais.
24Saul said to Samuel, “I have sinned; for I have transgressed the commandment of Yahweh, and your words, because I feared the people, and obeyed their voice.
25 Maddau'n awr fy mai, a thyrd yn l gyda mi, er mwyn imi ymostwng i'r ARGLWYDD."
25Now therefore, please pardon my sin, and turn again with me, that I may worship Yahweh.”
26 Ond dywedodd Samuel wrth Saul, "Na ddof; yr wyt wedi gwrthod gair yr ARGLWYDD, ac y mae'r ARGLWYDD wedi dy wrthod di fel brenin ar Israel."
26Samuel said to Saul, “I will not return with you; for you have rejected the word of Yahweh, and Yahweh has rejected you from being king over Israel.”
27 Trodd Samuel i fynd i ffwrdd, ond cydiodd Saul yng nghwr ei fantell, ac fe rwygodd.
27As Samuel turned about to go away, Saul grabbed the skirt of his robe, and it tore.
28 Ac meddai Samuel wrtho, "Y mae'r ARGLWYDD wedi rhwygo brenhiniaeth Israel oddi wrthyt heddiw, ac am ei rhoi i un yn d'ymyl sy'n well na thi.
28Samuel said to him, “Yahweh has torn the kingdom of Israel from you this day, and has given it to a neighbor of yours who is better than you.
29 Nid yw Ysblander Israel yn dweud celwydd nac yn edifarhau, oherwydd nid meidrolyn yw ef, i newid ei feddwl."
29Also the Strength of Israel will not lie nor repent; for he is not a man, that he should repent.”
30 Dywedodd Saul eto, "Rwyf ar fai, ond dangos di barch tuag ataf gerbron henuriaid fy mhobl a'r Israeliaid, a thyrd yn l gyda mi, er mwyn imi ymostwng gerbron yr ARGLWYDD dy Dduw."
30Then he said, “I have sinned: yet please honor me now before the elders of my people, and before Israel, and come back with me, that I may worship Yahweh your God.”
31 Yna dychwelodd Samuel gyda Saul, ac ymostyngodd Saul gerbron yr ARGLWYDD.
31So Samuel went back with Saul; and Saul worshiped Yahweh.
32 A dywedodd Samuel, "Dewch ag Agag brenin Amalec ataf fi." Daeth Agag ato'n anfoddog, a dweud, "Fe giliodd chwerwder marwolaeth."
32Then Samuel said, “Bring here to me Agag the king of the Amalekites!” Agag came to him cheerfully. Agag said, “Surely the bitterness of death is past.”
33 Ond dywedodd Samuel: "Fel y gwnaeth dy gleddyf di wragedd yn ddi-blant, felly bydd dy fam dithau'n ddi-blant ymysg gwragedd." Yna darniodd Samuel Agag gerbron yr ARGLWYDD yn Gilgal.
33Samuel said, “As your sword has made women childless, so your mother will be childless among women!” Samuel cut Agag in pieces before Yahweh in Gilgal.
34 Wedyn aeth Samuel i Rama, a Saul i'w gartref yn Gibea Saul.
34Then Samuel went to Ramah; and Saul went up to his house to Gibeah of Saul.
35 Ni welodd Samuel mo Saul byth wedyn, hyd ddydd ei farw, ond gofidiodd am Saul. Yr oedd yn edifar gan yr ARGLWYDD ei fod wedi gwneud Saul yn frenin ar Israel.
35Samuel came no more to see Saul until the day of his death; for Samuel mourned for Saul: and Yahweh grieved that he had made Saul king over Israel.
