1 Aeth Rehoboam i Sichem, gan mai i Sichem y daethai holl Israel i'w urddo'n frenin.
1Rehoboam went to Shechem; for all Israel had come to Shechem to make him king.
2 Pan glywodd Jeroboam fab Nebat, ac yntau yn yr Aifft, lle'r oedd wedi ffoi rhag y Brenin Solomon, dychwelodd oddi yno.
2It happened, when Jeroboam the son of Nebat heard of it, (for he was in Egypt, where he had fled from the presence of king Solomon), that Jeroboam returned out of Egypt.
3 Galwyd arno, ac fe ddaeth yntau a holl Israel a dweud wrth Rehoboam,
3They sent and called him; and Jeroboam and all Israel came, and they spoke to Rehoboam, saying,
4 "Trymhaodd dy dad ein hiau; os gwnei di'n awr ysgafnhau peth ar gaethiwed caled dy dad, a'r iau drom a osododd arnom, yna fe'th wasanaethwn."
4“Your father made our yoke grievous: now therefore make you the grievous service of your father, and his heavy yoke which he put on us, lighter, and we will serve you.”
5 Dywedodd yntau wrthynt, "Ewch i ffwrdd am dridiau, ac yna dewch yn l ataf." Aeth y bobl.
5He said to them, “Come again to me after three days.” The people departed.
6 Ymgynghorodd Rehoboam 'r henuriaid oedd yn llys ei dad Solomon pan oedd yn fyw, a gofynnodd, "Sut y byddech chwi'n fy nghynghori i ateb y bobl hyn?"
6King Rehoboam took counsel with the old men, who had stood before Solomon his father while he yet lived, saying, “What counsel do you give me to return answer to this people?”
7 Eu hateb oedd, "Os byddi'n gln wrthynt, a'u bodloni a'u hateb geiriau teg, byddant yn weision iti am byth."
7They spoke to him, saying, “If you are kind to this people, and please them, and speak good words to them, then they will be your servants forever.”
8 Ond gwrthododd y cyngor a roes yr henuriaid, a cheisiodd gyngor y llanciau oedd yn gyfoedion iddo ac yn aelodau o'i lys.
8But he forsook the counsel of the old men which they had given him, and took counsel with the young men who had grown up with him, who stood before him.
9 Gofynnodd iddynt hwy, "Beth ydych chwi'n fy nghynghori i ateb y bobl hyn sy'n dweud wrthyf, 'Ysgafnha rywfaint ar yr iau a osododd dy dad arnom'?"
9He said to them, “What counsel do you give, that we may return answer to this people, who have spoken to me, saying, ‘Make the yoke that your father put on us lighter?’”
10 Atebodd y llanciau oedd yn gyfoed ag ef, "Fel hyn y dywedi wrth y bobl hyn sy'n dweud wrthyt, 'Gwnaeth dy dad ein hiau yn drwm; ysgafnha dithau arnom'. Ie, dyma a ddywedi wrthynt: 'Y mae fy mys bach i yn braffach na llwynau fy nhad!
10The young men who had grown up with him spoke to him, saying, “Thus you shall tell the people who spoke to you, saying, ‘Your father made our yoke heavy, but make it lighter on us;’ thus you shall say to them, ‘My little finger is thicker than my father’s waist.
11 Y mae'n wir i'm tad osod iau drom arnoch, ond fe'i gwnaf fi hi'n drymach. Cystwyodd fy nhad chwi chwip, ond fe'ch cystwyaf fi chwi ffrewyll!'"
11Now whereas my father burdened you with a heavy yoke, I will add to your yoke. My father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.’”
12 Pan ddaeth Jeroboam a'r holl bobl at Rehoboam ar y trydydd dydd, yn l gorchymyn y brenin, "Dewch yn l ataf ymhen tridiau",
12So Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam the third day, as the king asked, saying, “Come to me again the third day.”
13 atebodd y brenin hwy'n chwyrn. Diystyrodd Rehoboam gyngor yr henuriaid, a derbyn cyngor y llanciau.
13The king answered them roughly; and king Rehoboam forsook the counsel of the old men,
14 Dywedodd wrthynt, "Trymhaodd fy nhad eich iau, ond fe'i gwnaf fi hi'n drymach; cystwyodd fy nhad chwi chwip, ond fe'ch cystwyaf fi chwi ffrewyll!"
14and spoke to them after the counsel of the young men, saying, “My father made your yoke heavy, but I will add to it. My father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.”
15 Felly ni wrandawodd y brenin ar y bobl, oherwydd fel hyn y tynghedwyd gan Dduw, er mwyn i'r ARGLWYDD gyflawni'r gair a lefarwyd drwy Aheia o Seilo wrth Jeroboam fab Nebat.
15So the king didn’t listen to the people; for it was brought about of God, that Yahweh might establish his word, which he spoke by Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat.
16 A phan welodd holl Israel nad oedd y brenin am wrando arnynt, daeth ateb oddi wrth y bobl at y brenin: "Pa ran sydd i ni yn Nafydd? Nid oes gyfran inni ym mab Jesse. Adref i'th bebyll, Israel! Edrych at dy du375? dy hun, Ddafydd!"
16When all Israel saw that the king didn’t listen to them, the people answered the king, saying, “What portion have we in David? Neither have we inheritance in the son of Jesse! Every man to your tents, Israel! Now see to your own house, David.” So all Israel departed to their tents.
17 Yna aeth Israel adref. Ond yr oedd rhai Israeliaid yn byw yn nhrefi Jwda, a Rehoboam yn frenin arnynt.
17But as for the children of Israel who lived in the cities of Judah, Rehoboam reigned over them.
18 Pan anfonodd y brenin atynt Adoram, goruchwyliwr y llafur gorfod, llabyddiodd yr Israeliaid ef a'i ladd; ond llwyddodd y Brenin Rehoboam i gyrraedd ei gerbyd a ffoi i Jerwsalem.
18Then king Rehoboam sent Hadoram, who was over the men subject to forced labor; and the children of Israel stoned him to death with stones. King Rehoboam made speed to get himself up to his chariot, to flee to Jerusalem.
19 Ac y mae Israel mewn gwrthryfel yn erbyn llinach Dafydd hyd heddiw.
19So Israel rebelled against the house of David to this day.
