1 Dyma enwau meibion Israel a aeth i'r Aifft gyda Jacob, pob un gyda'i deulu:
1Now these are the names of the sons of Israel, who came into Egypt (every man and his household came with Jacob):
2 Reuben, Simeon, Lefi a Jwda,
2Reuben, Simeon, Levi, and Judah,
3 Issachar, Sabulon a Benjamin,
3Issachar, Zebulun, and Benjamin,
4 Dan a Nafftali, Gad ac Aser.
4Dan and Naphtali, Gad and Asher.
5 Yr oedd gan Jacob ddeg a thrigain o ddisgynyddion; yr oedd Joseff eisoes yn yr Aifft.
5All the souls who came out of Jacob’s body were seventy souls, and Joseph was in Egypt already.
6 Yna bu farw Joseff a phob un o'i frodyr a'r holl genhedlaeth honno.
6Joseph died, as did all his brothers, and all that generation.
7 Ond yr oedd plant Israel yn ffrwythlon ac yn amlhau'n ddirfawr, ac aethant mor gryf a niferus nes bod y wlad yn llawn ohonynt.
7The children of Israel were fruitful, and increased abundantly, and multiplied, and grew exceedingly mighty; and the land was filled with them.
8 Yna daeth brenin newydd i deyrnasu ar yr Aifft, un nad oedd yn gwybod am Joseff.
8Now there arose a new king over Egypt, who didn’t know Joseph.
9 Dywedodd ef wrth ei bobl, "Edrychwch, y mae pobl Israel yn fwy niferus ac yn gryfach na ni.
9He said to his people, “Behold, the people of the children of Israel are more and mightier than we.
10 Rhaid inni fod yn ddoeth wrth eu trin, rhag iddynt gynyddu, a phe deuai rhyfel, iddynt ymuno 'n gelynion i ymladd yn ein herbyn, a dianc o'r wlad."
10Come, let us deal wisely with them, lest they multiply, and it happen that when any war breaks out, they also join themselves to our enemies, and fight against us, and escape out of the land.”
11 Felly, gosodwyd meistri gwaith i oruchwylio'r bobl ac i'w llethu beichiau trymion. Hwy fu'n adeiladu Pithom a Rameses, dinasoedd ar gyfer ystordai Pharo.
11Therefore they set taskmasters over them to afflict them with their burdens. They built storage cities for Pharaoh: Pithom and Raamses.
12 Ond po fwyaf y caent eu gorthrymu, mwyaf yn y byd yr oeddent yn amlhau ac yn cynyddu; a daeth yr Eifftiaid i'w hofni.
12But the more they afflicted them, the more they multiplied and the more they spread out. They were grieved because of the children of Israel.
13 Am hynny, gorfodwyd i'r Israeliaid weithio dan ormes,
13The Egyptians ruthlessly made the children of Israel serve,
14 a gwnaeth yr Eifftiaid eu bywyd yn chwerw trwy eu gosod i lafurio'n galed chlai a phriddfeini, a gwneud pob math o waith yn y meysydd. Yr oedd y cwbl yn cael ei wneud dan ormes.
14and they made their lives bitter with hard service, in mortar and in brick, and in all kinds of service in the field, all their service, in which they ruthlessly made them serve.
15 Yna dywedodd brenin yr Aifft wrth Siffra a Pua, dwy fydwraig yr Hebreaid,
15The king of Egypt spoke to the Hebrew midwives, of whom the name of the one was Shiphrah, and the name of the other Puah,
16 "Pan fyddwch yn gweini ar wragedd yr Hebreaid, sylwch ar y plentyn a enir: os mab fydd, lladdwch ef; os merch, gadewch iddi fyw."
16and he said, “When you perform the duty of a midwife to the Hebrew women, and see them on the birth stool; if it is a son, then you shall kill him; but if it is a daughter, then she shall live.”
17 Ond yr oedd y bydwragedd yn parchu Duw; ac ni wnaethant yr hyn a orchmynnodd brenin yr Aifft, ond gadawsant i'r bechgyn fyw.
17But the midwives feared God, The Hebrew word rendered “God” is “Elohim.” and didn’t do what the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the baby boys alive.
18 Galwodd brenin yr Aifft y bydwragedd ato a gofyn, "Pam y gwnaethoch hyn, a gadael i'r bechgyn fyw?"
18The king of Egypt called for the midwives, and said to them, “Why have you done this thing, and have saved the boys alive?”
19 Dywedasant hwythau wrth Pharo, "Nid yw gwragedd yr Hebreaid yn debyg i wragedd yr Eifftiaid, oherwydd y maent hwy yn fywiog ac yn esgor cyn i'r fydwraig gyrraedd."
19The midwives said to Pharaoh, “Because the Hebrew women aren’t like the Egyptian women; for they are vigorous, and give birth before the midwife comes to them.”
20 Am hynny bu Duw yn dda wrth y bydwragedd; a chynyddodd y bobl a dod yn rymus iawn.
20God dealt well with the midwives, and the people multiplied, and grew very mighty.
21 Am fod y bydwragedd yn parchu Duw, cawsant hwy eu hunain deuluoedd.
21It happened, because the midwives feared God, that he gave them families.
22 Yna rhoddodd Pharo orchymyn i'r holl bobl a dweud, "Taflwch i'r Neil bob mab a enir i'r Hebreaid, ond gadewch i bob merch gael byw."
22Pharaoh commanded all his people, saying, “You shall cast every son who is born into the river, and every daughter you shall save alive.”
