Genesis

38

1 Yr adeg honno gadawodd Jwda ei frodyr a throi at u373?r o Adulam o'r enw Hira.
1It happened at that time, that Judah went down from his brothers, and visited a certain Adullamite, whose name was Hirah.
2 Ac yno gwelodd Jwda ferch rhyw Ganaanead o'r enw Sua, a chymerodd hi'n wraig iddo a chafodd gyfathrach  hi;
2Judah saw there a daughter of a certain Canaanite whose name was Shua. He took her, and went in to her.
3 beichiogodd hithau ac esgor ar fab, ac enwodd yntau ef yn Er.
3She conceived, and bore a son; and he named him Er.
4 Beichiogodd eilwaith ac esgor ar fab, ac enwodd ef Onan.
4She conceived again, and bore a son; and she named him Onan.
5 Esgorodd eto ar fab, ac enwodd ef Sela; yn Chesib yr oedd pan esgorodd arno.
5She yet again bore a son, and named him Shelah: and he was at Chezib, when she bore him.
6 Cymerodd Jwda wraig o'r enw Tamar i Er ei fab hynaf.
6Judah took a wife for Er, his firstborn, and her name was Tamar.
7 Ond dyn drygionus yng ngolwg yr ARGLWYDD oedd Er, mab hynaf Jwda; a pharodd yr ARGLWYDD iddo farw.
7Er, Judah’s firstborn, was wicked in the sight of Yahweh. Yahweh killed him.
8 Yna dywedodd Jwda wrth Onan, "Dos at wraig dy frawd, ac fel brawd ei gu373?r cod deulu i'th frawd."
8Judah said to Onan, “Go in to your brother’s wife, and perform the duty of a husband’s brother to her, and raise up seed to your brother.”
9 Ond gwyddai Onan nad ei eiddo ef fyddai'r teulu; ac felly, pan i at wraig ei frawd, collai ei had ar lawr, rhag rhoi plant i'w frawd.
9Onan knew that the seed wouldn’t be his; and it happened, when he went in to his brother’s wife, that he spilled it on the ground, lest he should give seed to his brother.
10 Yr oedd yr hyn a wnaeth yn ffiaidd gan yr ARGLWYDD, a pharodd iddo yntau farw.
10The thing which he did was evil in the sight of Yahweh, and he killed him also.
11 Yna dywedodd Jwda wrth ei ferch-yng-nghyfraith Tamar, "Aros yn weddw yn nhu375? dy dad nes i'm mab Sela dyfu"; oherwydd yr oedd arno ofn iddo yntau hefyd farw fel ei frodyr. Felly aeth Tamar i fyw yn nhu375? ei thad.
11Then Judah said to Tamar, his daughter-in-law, “Remain a widow in your father’s house, until Shelah, my son, is grown up”; for he said, “Lest he also die, like his brothers.” Tamar went and lived in her father’s house.
12 Ymhen amser, bu farw gwraig Jwda, merch Sua; ac wedi ei dymor galar aeth Jwda a'i gyfaill Hira yr Adulamiad i Timnath, at gneifwyr ei ddefaid.
12After many days, Shua’s daughter, the wife of Judah, died. Judah was comforted, and went up to his sheepshearers to Timnah, he and his friend Hirah, the Adullamite.
13 Pan fynegwyd i Tamar fod ei thad-yng-nghyfraith wedi mynd i Timnath i gneifio,
13It was told Tamar, saying, “Behold, your father-in-law is going up to Timnah to shear his sheep.”
14 tynnodd wisg ei gweddwdod oddi amdani, a gwisgo gorchudd a'i lapio amdani. Yna aeth i eistedd wrth borth Enaim ar y ffordd i Timnath; oherwydd yr oedd yn gweld bod Sela wedi dod i oed ac nad oedd hi wedi ei rhoi'n wraig iddo.
14She took off of her the garments of her widowhood, and covered herself with her veil, and wrapped herself, and sat in the gate of Enaim, which is by the way to Timnah; for she saw that Shelah was grown up, and she wasn’t given to him as a wife.
15 Gwelodd Jwda hi a thybiodd mai putain ydoedd, gan ei bod wedi cuddio'i hwyneb.
15When Judah saw her, he thought that she was a prostitute, for she had covered her face.
16 Trodd ati ar y ffordd a dweud, "Tyrd, gad i mi gael cyfathrach thi." Ond ni wyddai mai ei ferch-yng-nghyfraith oedd hi. Atebodd hithau, "Beth a roi di imi, os cei gyfathrach mi?"
16He turned to her by the way, and said, “Please come, let me come in to you,” for he didn’t know that she was his daughter-in-law. She said, “What will you give me, that you may come in to me?”
17 Dywedodd, "Anfonaf i ti fyn gafr o'r praidd." Atebodd hithau, "A roi di wystl imi nes iti ei anfon?"
17He said, “I will send you a young goat from the flock.” She said, “Will you give me a pledge, until you send it?”
18 Gofynnodd yntau, "Beth a rof iti'n wystl?" Atebodd hithau, "Dy sl a'r llinyn, a'th ffon sydd yn dy law." Wedi iddo eu rhoi iddi, cafodd gyfathrach hi, a beichiogodd hithau.
18He said, “What pledge will I give you?” She said, “Your signet and your cord, and your staff that is in your hand.” He gave them to her, and came in to her, and she conceived by him.
19 Yna, wedi iddi godi a mynd ymaith, tynnodd ei gorchudd a rhoi amdani wisg ei gweddwdod.
19She arose, and went away, and put off her veil from her, and put on the garments of her widowhood.
20 Anfonodd Jwda y myn gafr yng ngofal ei gyfaill yr Adulamiad, er mwyn cael y gwystl yn l gan y wraig, ond ni allai ddod o hyd iddi.
20Judah sent the young goat by the hand of his friend, the Adullamite, to receive the pledge from the woman’s hand, but he didn’t find her.
21 Holodd ddynion y lle a dweud, "Ble mae'r butain y cysegr oedd ar y ffordd yn Enaim?" Ac atebasant, "Nid oes putain y cysegr yma."
21Then he asked the men of her place, saying, “Where is the prostitute, that was at Enaim by the road?” They said, “There has been no prostitute here.”
22 Felly dychwelodd at Jwda a dweud, "Ni chefais hyd iddi; a dywedodd dynion y lle nad oedd putain y cysegr yno."
22He returned to Judah, and said, “I haven’t found her; and also the men of the place said, ‘There has been no prostitute here.’”
23 Yna dywedodd Jwda, "Bydded iddi eu cadw, neu byddwn yn destun cywilydd; anfonais i y myn hwn, ond methaist gael hyd iddi."
23Judah said, “Let her keep it, lest we be shamed. Behold, I sent this young goat, and you haven’t found her.”
24 Ymhen tri mis dywedwyd wrth Jwda, "Bu Tamar dy ferch-yng-nghyfraith yn puteinio, ac y mae wedi beichiogi hefyd mewn godineb." Dywedodd Jwda, "Dewch hi allan, a llosger hi."
24It happened about three months later, that it was told Judah, saying, “Tamar, your daughter-in-law, has played the prostitute; and moreover, behold, she is with child by prostitution.” Judah said, “Bring her out, and let her be burnt.”
25 A phan ddaethant hi allan, anfonodd at ei thad-yng-nghyfraith i ddweud, "Yr wyf yn feichiog o'r gu373?r biau'r rhain." A dywedodd hefyd, "Edrych, yn awr, eiddo pwy yw'r rhain, y sl a'r llinyn a'r ffon."
25When she was brought out, she sent to her father-in-law, saying, “By the man, whose these are, I am with child.” She also said, “Please discern whose are these—the signet, and the cords, and the staff.”
26 Adnabu Jwda hwy a dywedodd, "Y mae hi'n fwy cyfiawn na mi, oherwydd na rois hi i'm mab Sela." Ni orweddodd gyda hi ar l hynny.
26Judah acknowledged them, and said, “She is more righteous than I, because I didn’t give her to Shelah, my son.” He knew her again no more.
27 Pan ddaeth yr amser iddi esgor, yr oedd gefeilliaid yn ei chroth,
27It happened in the time of her travail, that behold, twins were in her womb.
28 ac wrth iddi esgor rhoes un ei law allan; a chymerodd y fydwraig edau goch a'i rhwymo am ei law, a dweud, "Hwn a ddaeth allan yn gyntaf."
28When she travailed, one put out a hand, and the midwife took and tied a scarlet thread on his hand, saying, “This came out first.”
29 Ond tynnodd ei law yn l, a daeth ei frawd allan; a dywedodd hi, "Dyma doriad yr wyt wedi ei wneud i ti dy hun!" Ac enwyd ef Peres.
29It happened, as he drew back his hand, that behold, his brother came out, and she said, “Why have you made a breach for yourself?” Therefore his name was called Perez.
30 Daeth ei frawd allan wedyn 'r edau goch am ei law, ac enwyd ef Sera.
30Afterward his brother came out, that had the scarlet thread on his hand, and his name was called Zerah.
