Isaiah

36

1 Yn y bedwaredd flwyddyn ar ddeg o deyrnasiad Heseceia, ymosododd Senacherib brenin Asyria ar holl ddinasoedd caerog Jwda a'u goresgyn.
1Now it happened in the fourteenth year of king Hezekiah, that Sennacherib king of Assyria attacked all of the fortified cities of Judah, and captured them.
2 Ac anfonodd brenin Asyria y prif swyddog byddin gref o Lachis i Jerwsalem at y Brenin Heseceia; ac fe safodd wrth bistyll y Llyn Uchaf, sydd gerllaw priffordd Maes y Pannwr.
2The king of Assyria sent Rabshakeh from Lachish to Jerusalem to king Hezekiah with a large army. He stood by the aqueduct from the upper pool in the fuller’s field highway.
3 Daeth Eliacim fab Hilceia, arolygwr y palas, ato i'r fan honno, a chydag ef Sebna yr ysgrifennydd a Joa fab Asaff, y cofiadur.
3Then Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, who was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah, the son of Asaph, the recorder came out to him.
4 Dywedodd y prif swyddog wrthynt, "Dywedwch wrth Heseceia mai dyma neges yr ymerawdwr, brenin Asyria: 'Beth yw sail yr hyder hwn sydd gennyt?
4Rabshakeh said to them, “Now tell Hezekiah, ‘Thus says the great king, the king of Assyria, “What confidence is this in which you trust?
5 A wyt ti'n meddwl bod geiriau yn gwneud y tro ar gyfer rhyfel, yn lle cynllun a nerth? Ar bwy, ynteu, yr wyt yn dibynnu wrth godi gwrthryfel yn f'erbyn?
5I say that your counsel and strength for the war are only vain words. Now in whom do you trust, that you have rebelled against me?
6 Ai'r Aifft ffon o gorsen wedi ei hysigo, sy'n rhwygo ac anafu llaw y sawl sy'n pwyso arni? Un felly yw Pharo brenin yr Aifft i bwy bynnag sy'n dibynnu arno.
6Behold, you trust in the staff of this bruised reed, even in Egypt, which if a man leans on it, it will go into his hand and pierce it. So is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all who trust in him.
7 Neu os dywedi wrthyf, "Yr ydym yn dibynnu ar yr ARGLWYDD ein Duw", onid ef yw'r un y tynnodd Heseceia ei uchelfeydd a'i allorau, a dweud wrth Jwda a Jerwsalem, "O flaen yr allor hon yr addolwch"?
7But if you tell me, ‘We trust in Yahweh our God,’ isn’t that he whose high places and whose altars Hezekiah has taken away, and has said to Judah and to Jerusalem, ‘You shall worship before this altar?’”
8 Yn awr, beth am daro bargen gyda'm meistr, brenin Asyria? Rhof ddwy fil o feirch iti, os gelli di gael marchogion iddynt.
8Now therefore, please make a pledge to my master the king of Assyria, and I will give you two thousand horses, if you are able on your part to set riders on them.
9 Neu sut y gelli wrthod un capten o blith gweision lleiaf fy meistr, a dibynnu ar yr Aifft am gerbydau a marchogion?
9How then can you turn away the face of one captain of the least of my master’s servants, and put your trust on Egypt for chariots and for horsemen?
10 Heblaw hyn, ai heb yr ARGLWYDD y deuthum i fyny yn erbyn y wlad hon i'w dinistrio? Yr ARGLWYDD a ddywedodd wrthyf, "Dos i fyny yn erbyn y wlad hon, a dinistria hi".'"
10Have I come up now without Yahweh against this land to destroy it? Yahweh said to me, “Go up against this land, and destroy it.”’”
11 Dywedodd Eliacim a Sebna a Joa wrth y prif swyddog, "Gwell gennym iti siarad ni yn Aramaeg, oherwydd yr ydym yn ei deall, a pheidio siarad yn Hebraeg yng nghlyw'r bobl sydd ar y mur."
11Then Eliakim, Shebna and Joah said to Rabshakeh, “Please speak to your servants in Aramaic, for we understand it; and don’t speak to us in the Jews’ language in the hearing of the people who are on the wall.”
12 Ond atebodd y prif swyddog, "Ai at dy feistr a thithau yr anfonodd fy meistr fi i ddweud fy neges, yn hytrach nag at y bobl sydd ar y mur, a fydd, fel chwithau, yn bwyta eu tom ac yn yfed eu du373?r eu hunain?"
12But Rabshakeh said, “Has my master sent me only to your master and to you, to speak these words, and not to the men who sit on the wall, who will eat their own dung and drink their own urine with you?”
13 Yna fe safodd y prif swyddog a gweiddi'n uchel mewn Hebraeg, "Clywch eiriau'r ymerawdwr, brenin Asyria;
13Then Rabshakeh stood, and called out with a loud voice in the Jews’ language, and said, “Hear the words of the great king, the king of Assyria!
14 dyma y mae'n ei ddweud: 'Peidiwch gadael i Heseceia eich twyllo; ni all ef eich gwaredu.
14Thus says the king, ‘Don’t let Hezekiah deceive you; for he will not be able to deliver you.
15 Peidiwch chymryd eich perswadio ganddo i ddibynnu ar yr ARGLWYDD pan yw'n dweud, "Bydd yr ARGLWYDD yn siu373?r o'n gwaredu, ac ni roddir y ddinas hon i afael brenin Asyria."
15Don’t let Hezekiah make you trust in Yahweh, saying, “Yahweh will surely deliver us. This city won’t be given into the hand of the king of Assyria.”’
16 Peidiwch gwrando ar Heseceia.' Dyma eiriau brenin Asyria: 'Gwnewch delerau heddwch mi; dewch allan ataf; ac yna caiff pob un fwyta o'i winwydden ac o'i ffigysbren, ac yfed du373?r o'i ffynnon ei hun,
16Don’t listen to Hezekiah, for thus says the king of Assyria, ‘Make your peace with me, and come out to me; and each of you eat from his vine, and each one from his fig tree, and each one of you drink the waters of his own cistern;
17 nes i mi ddod i'ch dwyn i wlad debyg i'ch gwlad eich hun, gwlad u375?d a gwin, gwlad bara a gwinllannoedd.
17until I come and take you away to a land like your own land, a land of grain and new wine, a land of bread and vineyards.
18 Cymerwch ofal rhag i Heseceia eich hudo chwi trwy ddweud, "Bydd yr ARGLWYDD yn ein gwaredu." A yw duw unrhyw un o'r cenhedloedd wedi gwaredu ei wlad o afael brenin Asyria?
18Beware lest Hezekiah persuade you, saying, “Yahweh will deliver us.” Have any of the gods of the nations delivered their lands from the hand of the king of Assyria?
19 Ple mae duwiau Hamath ac Arpad? Ple mae duwiau Seffarfaim? A wnaethant hwy waredu Samaria o'm gafael?
19Where are the gods of Hamath and Arpad? Where are the gods of Sepharvaim? Have they delivered Samaria from my hand?
20 Prun o holl dduwiau'r gwledydd hyn sydd wedi gwaredu ei wlad o'm gafael? Sut, ynteu, y mae'r ARGLWYDD yn mynd i waredu Jerwsalem o'm gafael?'"
20Who are they among all the gods of these countries that have delivered their country out of my hand, that Yahweh should deliver Jerusalem out of my hand?’”
21 Cadw'n ddistaw a wnaeth y bobl, heb ateb gair, oherwydd yr oedd y brenin wedi rhoi gorchymyn nad oeddent i'w ateb.
21But they remained silent, and said nothing in reply, for the king’s commandment was, “Don’t answer him.”
22 Yna daeth Eliacim fab Hilceia, arolygwr y palas, a Sebna yr ysgrifennydd a Joa fab Asaff, y cofiadur, at Heseceia, a'u dillad wedi eu rhwygo, ac adrodd wrtho yr hyn yr oedd y prif swyddog wedi ei ddweud.
22Then Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, who was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah, the son of Asaph, the recorder, came to Hezekiah with their clothes torn, and told him the words of Rabshakeh.
