1حیرام، پادشاه صور نمایندگان خود را با چوب سرو، معمار و نجار پیش داود فرستاد تا قصری برای او آباد کنند.
1Now Hiram king of Tyre sent messengers to David, and timber of cedars, with masons and carpenters, to build him an house.
2آنگاه داود دانست که خداوند اساس سلطنت او را بنا نهاده و بخاطر قوم برگزیدۀ خود، اسرائیل پادشاهی او را آنچنان عظمت بخشیده است.
2And David perceived that the LORD had confirmed him king over Israel, for his kingdom was lifted up on high, because of his people Israel.
3داود در اورشلیم با زنهای دیگر عروسی کرد و دارای پسران و دختران زیادی شد.
3And David took more wives at Jerusalem: and David begat more sons and daughters.
4اینها نامهای فرزندان او هستند که در اورشلیم بدنیا آمدند: شَموع، شوباب، ناتان، سلیمان،
4Now these are the names of his children which he had in Jerusalem; Shammua, and Shobab, Nathan, and Solomon,
5ایبحار، اَلِیشُوع، اَلِیفالَط،
5And Ibhar, and Elishua, and Elpalet,
6نوجه، نِفج، یافیع،
6And Nogah, and Nepheg, and Japhia,
7اَلِیشمع، بَعلیادع و اَلِیفَلَط.
7And Elishama, and Beeliada, and Eliphalet.
8چون فلسطینی ها شنیدند که داود بحیث پادشاه سراسر اسرائیل انتخاب شده است، سپاه خود را برای حمله مجهز کردند تا با او بجنگند. وقتی به داود این خبر رسید به مقابلۀ شان رفت.
8And when the Philistines heard that David was anointed king over all Israel, all the Philistines went up to seek David. And David heard of it, and went out against them.
9فلسطینی ها حملۀ خود را در وادی رفائیم شروع کردند.
9And the Philistines came and spread themselves in the valley of Rephaim.
10داود از خدا سوال کرد: «اگر بجنگ فلسطینی ها بروم، آیا مرا بر آن ها پیروز می سازی؟» خداوند فرمود: «برو و من آن ها را به دست تو شکست می دهم.»
10And David inquired of God, saying, Shall I go up against the Philistines? And wilt thou deliver them into mine hand? And the LORD said unto him, Go up; for I will deliver them into thine hand.
11پس داود به بَعل فراسیم رفت و آن ها را در آنجا شکست داد و گفت: «خدا مثل سیلابی که بند آب را از هم می شگافد، دشمنان را به دست من شکست داد.» بنابران، آنجا را بَعل فراسیم (یعنی خدائی که از هم می شگافد)، نامید.
11So they came up to Baalperazim; and David smote them there. Then David said, God hath broken in upon mine enemies by mine hand like the breaking forth of waters: therefore they called the name of that place Baalperazim.
12مردم اسرائیل بتهای آن ها را که بجا گذاشته بودند، جمع کردند و داود امر کرد که همه را در آتش بسوزانند.
12And when they had left their gods there, David gave a commandment, and they were burned with fire.
13فلسطینی ها بار دیگر به وادی حمله کردند.
13And the Philistines yet again spread themselves abroad in the valley.
14چون داود با خداوند مشوره کرد، خداوند به او فرمود: «اینبار از روبرو حمله مکن، بلکه دَور خورده از پیشروی درختان توت حمله ببر.
14Therefore David inquired again of God; and God said unto him, Go not up after them; turn away from them, and come upon them over against the mulberry trees.
15وقتیکه صدای پا را از بالای درختان توت شنیدی، آن صدا اشارۀ حمله است و برو با آن ها بجنگ، زیرا من پیش از تو به آنجا می روم و زمینۀ شکست فلسطینی ها را فراهم می کنم.»
15And it shall be, when thou shalt hear a sound of going in the tops of the mulberry trees, that then thou shalt go out to battle: for God is gone forth before thee to smite the host of the Philistines.
16داود مطابق هدایت خداوند عمل کرد و فلسطینی ها را از جِبعون تا جازِر شکست داد.به این ترتیب، نام داود در تمام کشورها مشهور گردید و خداوند باعث شد که همه اقوام از او بترسند.
16David therefore did as God commanded him: and they smote the host of the Philistines from Gibeon even to Gazer.
17به این ترتیب، نام داود در تمام کشورها مشهور گردید و خداوند باعث شد که همه اقوام از او بترسند.
17And the fame of David went out into all lands; and the LORD brought the fear of him upon all nations.
