1ای فرزندان من، این را به شما می نویسم تا گناه نکنید. اما اگر کسی مرتکب گناهی شود، در پیشگاه خدای پدر کسی را داریم که برای ما شفاعت می کند ـ یعنی عیسی مسیح که عادل است ـ
1My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:
2زیرا خود مسیح کفارۀ گناهان ماست، نه تنها گناهان ما بلکه گناهان تمام دنیا.
2And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for our's only, but also for the sins of the whole world.
3فقط وقتی ما از احکام خدا اطاعت می کنیم، می توانیم مطمئن باشیم که او را می شناسیم
3And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.
4و اگر کسی بگوید که او را می شناسد ولی مطابق احکام او عمل نمی کند، دروغگو و از حقیقت دور است.
4He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.
5اما وقتی کسی مطابق کلام خدا زندگی می کند، محبت خدا در او به طور واقعی به کمال رسیده است. از این راه می توانیم مطمئن باشیم که در خدا زندگی می کنیم:
5But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.
6هرکه بگوید که در خدا زندگی می کند، زندگی او باید درست مانند زندگی عیسی مسیح باشد.
6He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.
7ای عزیزان، امری که به شما می نویسم حکم نو نیست، بلکه امری است قدیمی؛ یعنی همان است که شما از ابتدا داشته اید. و این همان پیامی است که از اول شنیده اید.
7Brethren, I write no new commandment unto you, but an old commandment which ye had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word which ye have heard from the beginning.
8در هر حال امر نو به شما می نویسم و حقیقت آن، هم در مسیح و هم در شما دیده می شود، زیرا ظلمت در گذر و نور حقیقی در حال درخشیدن است.
8Again, a new commandment I write unto you, which thing is true in him and in you: because the darkness is past, and the true light now shineth.
9اگر کسی ادعا کند که در نور است و در عین حال از برادر خود نفرت دارد، او هنوز در ظلمت است.
9He that saith he is in the light, and hateth his brother, is in darkness even until now.
10هر که برادر خود را دوست بدارد در نور زندگی می کند و باعث لغزش خود و یا دیگران نخواهد شد،
10He that loveth his brother abideth in the light, and there is none occasion of stumbling in him.
11اما هرکه از برادر خود نفرت داشته باشد در ظلمت است. در ظلمت راه می رود و نمی داند به کجا می رود، زیرا تاریکی چشمانش را کور کرده است.
11But he that hateth his brother is in darkness, and walketh in darkness, and knoweth not whither he goeth, because that darkness hath blinded his eyes.
12ای فرزندان کوچک، به شما می نویسم زیرا گناهان تان به خاطر نام مسیح آمرزیده شده اند.
12I write unto you, little children, because your sins are forgiven you for his name's sake.
13ای پدران، به شما می نویسم، زیرا او را که از ازل بوده است می شناسید. ای جوانان، به شما می نویسم، زیرا که بر شیطان پیروز شده اید.
13I write unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I write unto you, young men, because ye have overcome the wicked one. I write unto you, little children, because ye have known the Father.
14ای کودکان، به شما نوشته ام، زیرا شما پدر را می شناسید. ای پدران، به شما نوشته ام، زیرا او را که از ازل بوده است، می شناسید. ای جوانان، به شما نوشته ام، زیرا قوی هستید و کلام خدا در شماست و شما بر شیطان پیروز شده اید.
14I have written unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I have written unto you, young men, because ye are strong, and the word of God abideth in you, and ye have overcome the wicked one.
15به دنیا و آنچه به آن تعلق دارد دل نبندید، کسی که دنیا را دوست دارد، محبت خدای پدر در او نیست.
15Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
16هر آنچه به دنیا تعلق دارد، ـ یعنی آنچه نفس اَماره آرزو می کند و آنچه چشمان می بیند و طلب می کند و آنچه مایۀ فخر و غرور است ـ از پدر نیست. اینها همه به دنیا تعلق دارند.
16For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
17جهان و تمایلات دنیوی از بین خواهند رفت، اما هرکه ارادۀ خدا را به جا آورد، تا به ابد زیست خواهد کرد.
17And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.
18ای فرزندان من، ساعت آخر فرا رسیده است و چنانکه شما شنیدید که «دشمن مسیح» در زمان آخر ظاهر خواهد شد؛ و حالا می بینیم که دشمنان مسیح که ظاهر شده اند زیادند و از این رو می فهمیم که ساعت آخر نزدیک است.
18Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time.
19این دشمنان مسیح از بین ما رفته اند. آن ها در واقع هیچ وقت به ما تعلق نداشتند. اگر متعلق به ما می بودند، می ماندند. اما رفتند تا معلوم گردد که هیچ یک از آن ها در حقیقت از ما نبودند.
19They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us.
20اما مسیح شما را با روح القدس خود مسح کرده است و از این رو همۀ شما حقیقت را می دانید.
20But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things.
21من این را به آن منظور ننوشتم که شما از حقیقت بی خبرید، بلکه چون آن را می دانید و آگاه هستید که هیچ ناراستی از راستی سرچشمه نمی گیرد.
21I have not written unto you because ye know not the truth, but because ye know it, and that no lie is of the truth.
22پس آن دروغگوی واقعی کیست؟ کسی است که بگوید عیسی، «مسیح» نیست، این شخص «دشمن مسیح» است، چون او هم پدر و هم پسر را رد می کند.
22Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son.
23هرکه پسر را رد کند، پدر را نیز رد کرده است و هرکه پسر را بپذیرد، پدر را نیز پذیرفته است.
23Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: he that acknowledgeth the Son hath the Father also.
24بگذارید تأثیر پیامی را که از اول شنیدید در دلهای شما باقی بماند. اگر تأثیر آنچه که از اول به شما گفته شده است در دل های شما بماند، شما همیشه در پدر و پسر خواهید ماند.
24Let that therefore abide in you, which ye have heard from the beginning. If that which ye have heard from the beginning shall remain in you, ye also shall continue in the Son, and in the Father.
25و وعدۀ عیسی مسیح این است که او، زندگی ابدی را به شما می بخشد.
25And this is the promise that he hath promised us, even eternal life.
26من این چیزها را در بارۀ اشخاصی که می خواهند شما را گمراه سازند، نوشته ام.
26These things have I written unto you concerning them that seduce you.
27اما شما نیازی ندارید که کسی شما را تعلیم دهد، زیرا مسح روح القدس که مسیح به شما داده است در شما ثابت است. روح خدا در هر مورد به شما تعلیم می دهد و تعالیم او بر حق است و در آن ناراستی نیست. پس همان طور که روح خدا به شما تعلیم می دهد، در مسیح بمانید.
27But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.
28خلاصه، ای فرزندان من، در او بمانید تا در وقت ظهور او، نه تنها احساس شرمندگی نکنیم، بلکه با اطمینان به حضورش حاضر شویم.اگر درک کرده اید که مسیح عادل است، این حقیقت را نیز بدانید که هر که عدالت را به جا آورد، فرزند خداست.
28And now, little children, abide in him; that, when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming.
29اگر درک کرده اید که مسیح عادل است، این حقیقت را نیز بدانید که هر که عدالت را به جا آورد، فرزند خداست.
29If ye know that he is righteous, ye know that every one that doeth righteousness is born of him.
