1آنگاه سموئیل یک بوتل روغن را گرفته بر سر شائول ریخت. بعد او را بوسید و گفت: «چون خداوند ترا انتخاب فرموده است که پادشاه اسرائیل باشی، این کار را می کنم. تو فرمانروا و رهائی بخش آن ها از دست دشمنانی که در اطراف آن ها هستند، می شوی. برای ثبوت اینکه خداوند ترا بحیث پادشاه اسرائیل انتخاب کرده است، می گویم
1Then Samuel took a vial of oil, and poured it upon his head, and kissed him, and said, Is it not because the LORD hath anointed thee to be captain over his inheritance?
2که وقتی از پیش من جدا می شوی، دو نفر را در کنار قبر راحیل در شهر صَلصَح که در سرزمین بنیامین واقع است، می بینی و به تو می گویند: «خرهائی را که جستجو می کردی، یافت شده اند. حالا پدرت در فکر خرها نیست، بلکه بخاطر تو پریشان است و می گوید: پسرم را چطور پیدا کنم.»
2When thou art departed from me to day, then thou shalt find two men by Rachel's sepulchre in the border of Benjamin at Zelzah; and they will say unto thee, The asses which thou wentest to seek are found: and, lo, thy father hath left the care of the asses, and sorroweth for you, saying, What shall I do for my son?
3وقتی پیشتر بروی به درخت بلوط تابور می رسی. در آنجا سه مرد را می بینی که روندۀ بیت ئیل به منظور پرستش خداوند می باشند. یکی از آن ها سه بزغاله، دیگری سه قرص نان و سومی یک مشک شراب با خود دارد.
3Then shalt thou go on forward from thence, and thou shalt come to the plain of Tabor, and there shall meet thee three men going up to God to Bethel, one carrying three kids, and another carrying three loaves of bread, and another carrying a bottle of wine:
4آن ها با تو احوالپرسی می کنند و به تو دو قرص نان می دهند که تو باید آن را بپذیری.
4And they will salute thee, and give thee two loaves of bread; which thou shalt receive of their hands.
5بعد به تپۀ خدا می رسی که در آنجا عساکر فلسطینی ها پهره می دهند. و همینکه به شهر وارد می شوی با چند نفر از انبیاء بر می خوری که از تپه پائین می آیند و در حال نواختن چنگ و دایره و نَی و تنبور می باشند و نبوت می کنند.
5After that thou shalt come to the hill of God, where is the garrison of the Philistines: and it shall come to pass, when thou art come thither to the city, that thou shalt meet a company of prophets coming down from the high place with a psaltery, and a tabret, and a pipe, and a harp, before them; and they shall prophesy:
6بعد روح خداوند بر تو قرار می گیرد و تو هم با آن ها نبوت می کنی و به شخص دیگری تبدیل می شوی.
6And the Spirit of the LORD will come upon thee, and thou shalt prophesy with them, and shalt be turned into another man.
7از آن ببعد، هر تصمیمی که بگیری، انجام داده می توانی، زیرا خداوند هادی و راهنمایت می باشد.
7And let it be, when these signs are come unto thee, that thou do as occasion serve thee; for God is with thee.
8حالا پیشتر از من به جِلجال برو و در آنجا منتظر من باش. من بعد از یک هفته پیشت می آیم، چون من باید در وقت ادای مراسم قربانی سوختنی و ذبح کردن قربانی های سلامتی با تو باشم. من همچنین گفتنی های دیگری دارم که باید برایت بگویم.»
8And thou shalt go down before me to Gilgal; and, behold, I will come down unto thee, to offer burnt offerings, and to sacrifice sacrifices of peace offerings: seven days shalt thou tarry, till I come to thee, and show thee what thou shalt do.
9وقتی شائول با سموئیل وداع کرد و می خواست برود خدا وضع و شخصیت او را تغییر داد و همه پیشگوئی های سموئیل به حقیقت رسیدند.
9And it was so, that when he had turned his back to go from Samuel, God gave him another heart: and all those signs came to pass that day.
10چون به تپۀ خدا آمدند گروهی از انبیاء را دیدند که بطرف شان می آیند. آنگاه روح خدا بر شائول قرار گرفت و با آن ها به نبوت شروع کرد.
10And when they came thither to the hill, behold, a company of prophets met him; and the Spirit of God came upon him, and he prophesied among them.
11کسانی که قبلاً او را می شناختند وقتی دیدند که با انبیاء نبوت می کند، گفتند: «پسر قَیس را چه شده است؟ آیا شائول هم از جملۀ انبیاء است؟»
11And it came to pass, when all that knew him beforetime saw that, behold, he prophesied among the prophets, then the people said one to another, What is this that is come unto the son of Kish? Is Saul also among the prophets?
12یکنفر از حاضرین اضافه کرد: «و پدر شان کیست؟» از همان زمان این مَثَل ورد زبان مردم شد که می گویند: «شائول هم از جملۀ انبیاء است.»
12And one of the same place answered and said, But who is their father? Therefore it became a proverb, Is Saul also among the prophets?
13وقتی شائول نبوت را تمام کرد، به بالای تپه رفت.
13And when he had made an end of prophesying, he came to the high place.
14کاکای شائول از آن ها پرسید: «کجا رفته بودید؟» شائول جواب داد: «برای یافتن خرها رفته بودیم. چون آن ها را نیافتیم پیش سموئیل رفتیم.»
14And Saul's uncle said unto him and to his servant, Whither went ye? And he said, To seek the asses: and when we saw that they were no where, we came to Samuel.
15کاکایش گفت: «به من بگو که او چه گفت.»
15And Saul's uncle said, Tell me, I pray thee, what Samuel said unto you.
16شائول جواب داد: «او به ما گفت که خرها یافت شده اند.» اما در بارۀ اینکه او بعنوان پادشاه انتخاب شده است، به کاکای خود چیزی نگفت.
16And Saul said unto his uncle, He told us plainly that the asses were found. But of the matter of the kingdom, whereof Samuel spake, he told him not.
17سموئیل قوم اسرائیل را برای یک اجتماع در مِصفه دعوت کرد
17And Samuel called the people together unto the LORD to Mizpeh;
18و این پیام خداوند را به آن ها داد: «خداوند، خدای اسرائیل چنین می فرماید: «من قوم اسرائیل را از مصر بیرون آوردم و شما را از دست مردم مصر و ممالکی که بر شما ظلم می کردند، نجات دادم.
18And said unto the children of Israel, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, I brought up Israel out of Egypt, and delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of all kingdoms, and of them that oppressed you:
19اما امروز شما خدای تان را که شما را از آن همه بلاها و مصائب رهائی بخشید، فراموش کردید. حالا از من می خواهید که پادشاهی برای تان انتخاب کنم.» بسیار خوب، اکنون به ترتیب قوم و قبیلۀ تان بحضور خداوند حاضر شوید.»
19And ye have this day rejected your God, who himself saved you out of all your adversities and your tribulations; and ye have said unto him, Nay, but set a king over us. Now therefore present yourselves before the LORD by your tribes, and by your thousands.
20پس سموئیل همۀ قبایل اسرائیل را بحضور خداوند جمع کرد و از بین آن ها قبیلۀ بنیامین بحکم قرعه انتخاب شد.
20And when Samuel had caused all the tribes of Israel to come near, the tribe of Benjamin was taken.
21سپس همه خانواده های قبیلۀ بنیامین را بحضور خداوند آورد و قرعه بنام خانوادۀ مَطری برآمد. بالاخره هر فرد خانوادۀ مَطری حاضر شد و از آن جمله شائول، پسر قَیس انتخاب گردید، اما وقتی رفتند که او را بیاورند، او را نیافتند.
21When he had caused the tribe of Benjamin to come near by their families, the family of Matri was taken, and Saul the son of Kish was taken: and when they sought him, he could not be found.
22پس از خداوند پرسیدند: «او کجا است؟ آیا او اینجا در بین ما است؟» خداوند جواب داد: «بلی، او در بین کالا و لوازمی که آورده اند، خود را پنهان کرده است.»
22Therefore they inquired of the LORD further, if the man should yet come thither. And the LORD answered, Behold he hath hid himself among the stuff.
23آنگاه رفتند و او را آوردند. وقتی در بین مردم ایستاد، قدش از همه بلندتر بود.
23And they ran and fetched him thence: and when he stood among the people, he was higher than any of the people from his shoulders and upward.
24سموئیل به مردم گفت: «این شخص همان کسی است که خداوند او را بعنوان پادشاه شما انتخاب فرموده است. در تمام قوم اسرائیل نظیر او پیدا نمی شود.» آنگاه همگی با یک صدا گفتند: «زنده باد پادشاه!»
24And Samuel said to all the people, See ye him whom the LORD hath chosen, that there is none like him among all the people? And all the people shouted, and said, God save the king.
25بعد سموئیل حقوق و وظایف پادشاه را برای مردم شرح داد و همه را در کتاب مخصوص نوشت و بحضور خداوند تقدیم کرد. سپس مردم را به خانه های شان فرستاد.
25Then Samuel told the people the manner of the kingdom, and wrote it in a book, and laid it up before the LORD. And Samuel sent all the people away, every man to his house.
26شائول هم به خانۀ خود در جِبعَه برگشت و ندیمانی هم که خدا دل آن ها را بر انگيخته بود، شائول را همراهی کردند.اما بعضی از اشخاص پستی که در آنجا حاضر بودند، گفتند: «این شخص چطور می تواند ما را نجات بدهد؟» او را مسخره کردند و تحفه ای برایش نیاوردند، ولی او حرفی نزد.
26And Saul also went home to Gibeah; and there went with him a band of men, whose hearts God had touched.
27اما بعضی از اشخاص پستی که در آنجا حاضر بودند، گفتند: «این شخص چطور می تواند ما را نجات بدهد؟» او را مسخره کردند و تحفه ای برایش نیاوردند، ولی او حرفی نزد.
27But the children of Belial said, How shall this man save us? And they despised him, and brought no presents. But he held his peace.
