¹حَنّه دعا کرد و گفت: «خداوند دل مرا از خوشی لبریز ساخته است؛ خداوند به من جرأت داده است که چگونه به دشمنانم جواب بدهم. از غم و اندوه نجاتم داد و به این خاطر شادمان هستم.

¹And Hannah prayed, and said, My heart rejoiceth in the LORD, mine horn is exalted in the LORD: my mouth is enlarged over mine enemies; because I rejoice in thy salvation.

²او یگانه خدای پاک و مقدس است. شریک و همتا ندارد. تنها خدای ما پشت و پناه ما است.

²There is none holy as the LORD: for there is none beside thee: neither is there any rock like our God.

³مغرور و متکبر مباش و سخنان غرورآمیز را بر زبان میاور. زیرا خداوند عالم و دانا است. او هر عمل ما را می سنجد.

³Talk no more so exceeding proudly; let not arrogancy come out of your mouth: for the LORD is a God of knowledge, and by him actions are weighed.

⁴بازوی زورمندان را می شکند. ضعیفان را نیرو می بخشد.

⁴The bows of the mighty men are broken, and they that stumbled are girded with strength.

⁵کسانی که سیر بودند، حالا باید برای یک لقمه نان زحمت بکشند، و آنهائی که گرسنه بودند، سیر شدند. زنی که بی اولاد بود، هفت طفل بدنیا آورد، و آنکه اطفال زیاد داشت حالا هیچ ندارد.

⁵They that were full have hired out themselves for bread; and they that were hungry ceased: so that the barren hath born seven; and she that hath many children is waxed feeble.

⁶خداوند می میراند و زندگی می بخشد. به گور می برد و زنده می سازد.

⁶The LORD killeth, and maketh alive: he bringeth down to the grave, and bringeth up.

⁷خداوند بعضی را فقیر و برخی را غنی می کند. سرنگون می سازد و سرفراز می نماید.

⁷The LORD maketh poor, and maketh rich: he bringeth low, and lifteth up.

⁸مسکینان را از خاک بلند می کند و بینوایان را از تودۀ خاکستر. آن ها را همنشین پادشاهان می سازد و به مقام افتخار می رساند، زیرا خداوند مالک روی زمین است و نظام کائنات را برقرار می سازد.

⁸He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth up the beggar from the dunghill, to set them among princes, and to make them inherit the throne of glory: for the pillars of the earth are the LORD's, and he hath set the world upon them.

⁹مقدسین خود را براه راست هدایت می کند و اشخاص شریر را در تاریکی از بین می برد. زیرا انسان تنها با زور بازوی خود پیروز شده نمی تواند.

⁹He will keep the feet of his saints, and the wicked shall be silent in darkness; for by strength shall no man prevail.

¹⁰دشمنان خداوند ذره ذره می شوند و از آسمان رعد و برق را بر سر شان فرود می آورد. خداوند داور جهان می شود؛ به پادشاه برگزیدۀ خود قدرت و نیرو می بخشد.»

¹⁰The adversaries of the LORD shall be broken to pieces; out of heaven shall he thunder upon them: the LORD shall judge the ends of the earth; and he shall give strength unto his king, and exalt the horn of his anointed.

¹¹بعد اَلقانَه به خانۀ خود در رامه برگشت و سموئیل در حضور عیلی کاهن به خدمت خداوند مشغول بود.

¹¹And Elkanah went to Ramah to his house. And the child did minister unto the LORD before Eli the priest.

¹²پسران عیلی اشخاص بی کفایتی بودند. آن ها به خداوند احترام نداشتند

¹²Now the sons of Eli were sons of Belial; they knew not the LORD.

¹³و اصول مذهبی را که وظیفۀ شان ایجاب می کرد، رعایت نمی نمودند. عادت بد آن ها این بود که وقتی کسی قربانی می کرد، خادم آن ها می آمد و در حالیکه گوشت هنوز در دیگ جوش می خورد، پنجۀ سه شاخه ای را که با خود داشت، در دیگ، پاتله، دیگبر و یا هر ظرف دیگری که در آن گوشت را می پختند، فرومی برد

¹³And the priest's custom with the people was, that, when any man offered sacrifice, the priest's servant came, while the flesh was in seething, with a fleshhook of three teeth in his hand;

¹⁴و هر چه را که با پنجه از دیگ می کشید سهم کاهن می بود. آن ها با تمام مردم اسرائیل که به شیلوه می آمدند به همین ترتیب رفتار می کردند.

¹⁴And he struck it into the pan, or kettle, or caldron, or pot; all that the fleshhook brought up the priest took for himself. So they did in Shiloh unto all the Israelites that came thither.

¹⁵در بعضی مواقع پیش از سوختن چربی خادم آن ها می آمد و به کسیکه قربانی می کرد، می گفت که گوشت خام را برای کباب به کاهن بدهد، چرا که او گوشت پخته را قبول نمی کرد.

¹⁵Also before they burnt the fat, the priest's servant came, and said to the man that sacrificed, Give flesh to roast for the priest; for he will not have sodden flesh of thee, but raw.

¹⁶اگر آن مرد می گفت: «صبر کن که اول چربی بسوزد و بعد هر قدر گوشت که می خواهی ببر.» خادم به او می گفت: «نی، همین حالا بده، ورنه بزور از تو می گیرم.»

¹⁶And if any man said unto him, Let them not fail to burn the fat presently, and then take as much as thy soul desireth; then he would answer him, Nay; but thou shalt give it me now: and if not, I will take it by force.

¹⁷لهذا، گناه آن جوانان در نظر خداوند بسیار بزرگ بود، زیرا آن ها قربانی را که برای خداوند می شد، بی حرمت می کردند.

¹⁷Wherefore the sin of the young men was very great before the LORD: for men abhorred the offering of the LORD.

¹⁸سموئیل باوجودی که طفل خورد سالی بود با یک لُنگِ کتانی که بکمر بسته بود خدمت خداوند را می کرد.

¹⁸But Samuel ministered before the LORD, being a child, girded with a linen ephod.

¹⁹مادرش هر سال یک ردای کوچک می دوخت و وقتیکه برای ادای قربانی سالانه همراه شوهر خود به شیلوه می رفت، برایش می بُرد.

¹⁹Moreover his mother made him a little coat, and brought it to him from year to year, when she came up with her husband to offer the yearly sacrifice.

²⁰عیلی برای اَلقانَه و زنش دعا می کرد و می گفت: «خداوند به عوض این طفلی که وقف او کردید، فرزندان دیگری از این زن به شما عطا کند.» و بعد آن ها همگی به خانۀ خود بر می گشتند.

²⁰And Eli blessed Elkanah and his wife, and said, The LORD give thee seed of this woman for the loan which is lent to the LORD. And they went unto their own home.

²¹خداوند در حق حَنّه لطف کرد و او را صاحب سه پسر و دو دختر ساخت. و در عین حال سموئیل در حضور و خدمت خداوند نشو و نما می کرد.

²¹And the LORD visited Hannah, so that she conceived, and bare three sons and two daughters. And the child Samuel grew before the LORD.

²²در این وقت عیلی پیر و سالخورده شده بود و خبر شد که پسرانش با مردم اسرائیل پیشآمد خوب نمی کنند و با زنانی که در خیمۀ حضور خداوند خدمت می کردند، همبستر می شوند.

²²Now Eli was very old, and heard all that his sons did unto all Israel; and how they lay with the women that assembled at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.

²³لهذا به آن ها گفت: «چرا این کارها را می کنید؟ مردم از کارهای بد شما شکایت دارند.

²³And he said unto them, Why do ye such things? for I hear of your evil dealings by all this people.

²⁴فرزندان من، از این کارها دست بکشید، زیرا همیشه خبر کارهای بد شما برای من می رسد و خوب نیست که مردم اعمال زشت شما را در همه جا پخش کنند.

²⁴Nay, my sons; for it is no good report that I hear: ye make the LORD's people to transgress.

²⁵اگر شخصی در مقابل شخص دیگری گناه ورزد، خداوند از او شفاعت می کند، ولی اگر کسی در برابر خداوند مرتکب گناهی شود، چه کسی می تواند شفاعت او را بکند؟» اما آن ها به نصیحت پدر خود گوش ندادند، چون ارادۀ خدا همین بود که آن ها هلاک شوند.

²⁵If one man sin against another, the judge shall judge him: but if a man sin against the LORD, who shall entreat for him? Notwithstanding they hearkened not unto the voice of their father, because the LORD would slay them.

²⁶سموئیل در قد و قامت رشد می کرد و همچنین خداوند و مردم او را دوست داشتند.

²⁶And the child Samuel grew on, and was in favor both with the LORD, and also with men.

²⁷روزی یکی از انبیاء پیش عیلی آمده و به او گفت: «خداوند چنین فرمود: وقتی جَدَت در کشور مصر و در پیش فرعون غلام بود، دیدار خود را نصیبش کردم.

²⁷And there came a man of God unto Eli, and said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Did I plainly appear unto the house of thy father, when they were in Egypt in Pharaoh's house?

²⁸از بین تمام قبایل اسرائیل خانوادۀ او را بعنوان کاهنان خود برگزیدم تا بر قربانگاه عبادتگاه من نذر و قربانی تقدیم کنند و در حضور من لباس کاهنی بپوشند. به خاندان جدت حق دادم که تمام گوشت قربانی را برای استفادۀ خود ببرند.

²⁸And did I choose him out of all the tribes of Israel to be my priest, to offer upon mine altar, to burn incense, to wear an ephod before me? and did I give unto the house of thy father all the offerings made by fire of the children of Israel?

²⁹پس چرا قربانی ها و نذرهای مرا بی حرمت می کنی؟ پیش تو پسرانت زیادتر از من محترم هستند. به خود حق می دهی که از خوردن بهترین گوشت قربانی که قوم برگزیدۀ من برای من تقدیم می کنند، خود را چاق بسازی.»

²⁹Wherefore kick ye at my sacrifice and at mine offering, which I have commanded in my habitation; and honorest thy sons above me, to make yourselves fat with the chiefest of all the offerings of Israel my people?

³⁰خداوند، خدای اسرائیل می فرماید: «هر چند وعده داده بودم که خاندان تو و خاندان جدت همیشه خادمان درگاه من باشند، اما دیگر بس است. کسیکه به من احترام دارد، به او عزت می دهم و کسیکه مرا حقیر شمارد، خوار و رسوایش می سازم.

³⁰Wherefore the LORD God of Israel saith, I said indeed that thy house, and the house of thy father, should walk before me for ever: but now the LORD saith, Be it far from me; for them that honor me I will honor, and they that despise me shall be lightly esteemed.

³¹روزی آمدنی است که قدرت تو و قدرت خانوادۀ جدت زوال می شود و همه پیش از آنکه به سن پیری برسند، می میرند.

³¹Behold, the days come, that I will cut off thine arm, and the arm of thy father's house, that there shall not be an old man in thine house.

³²و به نعمت های فراوانی که به مردم اسرائیل می بخشم، با نگاه حسرت می بینی. بلی، مرگ نابهنگام نصیب همۀ تان می شود.

³²And thou shalt see an enemy in my habitation, in all the wealth which God shall give Israel: and there shall not be an old man in thine house for ever.

³³و کسانی هم که از خاندان تو زنده بمانند، در غم و درد زندگی می کنند و اطفال شان هم با شمشیر هلاک می گردند.

³³And the man of thine, whom I shall not cut off from mine altar, shall be to consume thine eyes, and to grieve thine heart: and all the increase of thine house shall die in the flower of their age.

³⁴برای ثبوت حرف خود می گویم که دو پسرت هم سرنوشت شومی دارند، یعنی حُفنی و فینِحاس هر دو در یک روز می میرند.

³⁴And this shall be a sign unto thee, that shall come upon thy two sons, on Hophni and Phinehas; in one day they shall die both of them.

³⁵اما من برای خود کاهن صادق تر و با وفاتری اختیار می کنم که با دل و جان خدمت مرا می کند. خانوادۀ او را برکت می دهم تا در حضور من و برگزیدۀ من همیشه آمادۀ خدمت باشد.و بازماندگان تو برای یک سکۀ نقره یا یک قرص نان در مقابل او سر تعظیم خم کرده بگویند: لطفاً برای ما کاری در بین کاهنان بده تا لقمه نانی به دست آوریم.»

³⁵And I will raise me up a faithful priest, that shall do according to that which is in mine heart and in my mind: and I will build him a sure house; and he shall walk before mine anointed for ever.

³⁶و بازماندگان تو برای یک سکۀ نقره یا یک قرص نان در مقابل او سر تعظیم خم کرده بگویند: لطفاً برای ما کاری در بین کاهنان بده تا لقمه نانی به دست آوریم.»

³⁶And it shall come to pass, that every one that is left in thine house shall come and crouch to him for a piece of silver and a morsel of bread, and shall say, Put me, I pray thee, into one of the priests' offices, that I may eat a piece of bread.
