1از طرف شمعونِ پِترُس، غلام و رسول عیسی مسیح به آنانی که از راه عدالت خدای ما و نجات دهندۀ ما عیسی مسیح، ایمانی مانند ایمان ما یافته اند.
1Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ:
2در حالی که شناخت شما از خدا و عیسی مسیح خداوند زیادتر می شود، فیض و سلامتی شما نیز افزون گردد.
2Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,
3قدرت خدا آنچه را که ما برای زندگی و خدا پرستی ضرورت داریم، به ما بخشیده است تا ما بتوانیم کسی را که ما را خوانده است تا در جلال و عظمتش شریک شویم، بهتر بشناسیم.
3According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:
4بنابراین از وعده های بزرگ و گرانبها، بهره مند شده و از فسادی که نتیجۀ تمایلات جسمانی است بگریزید و در طبیعت خدایی شریک و سهیم شوید.
4Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
5به این سبب، با سعی تمام بکوشید که ایمان خود را با جوانمردی، جوانمردی را با معرفت،
5And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;
6معرفت را با پرهیزکاری، پرهیزکاری را با بردباری، بردباری را با خداشناسی،
6And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;
7خداشناسی را با دوستی برادرانه و دوستی برادرانه را با محبت خالص تکمیل کنید.
7And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.
8اگر این صفات در شما باشد و زندگی شما را بیشتر فراگیرد، همیشه در شناسائی خداوند ما عیسی مسیح فعال و پُر ثمر خواهید بود.
8For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
9ولی کسی که این صفات را نداشته باشد، چنان کور و نزدیک بین می شود که فراموش می کند چگونه از گناهان گذشتۀ خود پاک شده است.
9But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.
10پس ای برادران، هرچه بیشتر بکوشید تا زندگی شما ثابت کند که شما جزء دعوت شدگان و برگزیدگان خدا هستید، زیرا اگر چنین کنید، هرگز لغزش نخواهید خورد.
10Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:
11و به این ترتیب دخول به پادشاهی ابدی خداوند و نجات دهندۀ ما عیسی مسیح به فراوانی به شما عطا خواهد شد.
11For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
12به این جهت من تصمیم گرفتم که همیشه این چیزها را به یاد شما بیاورم. اگرچه شما اینها را می دانید و در حقیقتی که یافته اید ثابت هستید،
12Wherefore I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye know them, and be established in the present truth.
13ولی من تا زنده هستم صلاح می دانم که با یادآوری و تذکر، شما را برانگیزانم.
13Yea, I think it meet, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance;
14من می دانم که به زودی، چنانکه خداوند عیسی مسیح به من نشان داد، این خیمه را ترک خواهم نمود.
14Knowing that shortly I must put off this my tabernacle, even as our Lord Jesus Christ hath shewed me.
15پس نهایت کوشش خود را خواهم کرد تا پس از مرگ من شما بتوانید در همۀ اوقات این مطالب را به یاد آورید.
15Moreover I will endeavour that ye may be able after my decease to have these things always in remembrance.
16زیرا وقتی ما دربارۀ قدرت خداوند ما عیسی مسیح و آمدن او سخن گفتیم از افسانه هایی که با مهارت ساخته شده اند پیروی نکردیم، زیرا ما با چشمان خود بزرگی ملکوتی او را دیده ایم.
16For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty.
17وقتی خدای پدر به او افتخار و جلال داد، ما در آنجا حاضر بودیم و آن زمان که از جلال خداوندی صدایی به او رسید که می گفت: «اینست پسر عزیز من، از او خشنودم»، ما آنجا بودیم.
17For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
18بلی، ما وقتی با او بر روی کوه مقدس بودیم، این صدای آسمانی را شنیدیم.
18And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount.
19این همه، کلام انبیاء را برای ما بیشتر تصدیق و تأیید می کند، پس با دقت بیشتر به آن توجه نمائید، زیرا کلام انبیاء مانند چراغی است که در جایی تاریک می درخشد تا سپیده بدمد و ستارۀ صبح طلوع کرده، دل های شما را روشن گرداند.
19We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:
20اما بیش از همه چیز این را به یاد داشته باشید که هیچ کس نمی تواند به تنهائی پیشگوئی های کتاب مقدس را تفسیر کند.زیرا هیچ پیشگوئی از روی نقشه و خواستۀ انسان به وجود نیامده است؛ بلکه مردم تحت تأثیر روح القدس، کلام خدا را بیان نمودند.
20Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.
21زیرا هیچ پیشگوئی از روی نقشه و خواستۀ انسان به وجود نیامده است؛ بلکه مردم تحت تأثیر روح القدس، کلام خدا را بیان نمودند.
21For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.
