¹در این جنگها تنها میکائیل، نگهبان قوم اسرائیل، به من کمک می کند.»

¹Also I in the first year of Darius the Mede, even I, stood to confirm and to strengthen him.

²فرشته اضافه کرد: «سه پادشاه دیگر در کشور فارس به سلطنت می رسند و به تعقیب آن ها پادشاه چهارم زمام مملکت را به دست می گیرد. این پادشاه از همه ثروتمندتر می باشد و با استفاده از قدرت و ثروت خود همه را علیه کشور یونان تحریک می کند.

²And now will I shew thee the truth. Behold, there shall stand up yet three kings in Persia; and the fourth shall be far richer than they all: and by his strength through his riches he shall stir up all against the realm of Grecia.

³بعد از آن پادشاه نیرومندی به میدان می آید. او بر یک کشور وسیعی فرمانروائی می کند و هر آنچه که دلش بخواهد بعمل می آورد.

³And a mighty king shall stand up, that shall rule with great dominion, and do according to his will.

⁴اما در اوج قدرت سلطنتش از هم پاشان می گردد و به چهار سلطنت تقسیم می شود. فرزندی از این پادشاه به سلطنت نمی رسد، زیرا پادشاهی او ریشه کن شده به دیگران داده می شود.

⁴And when he shall stand up, his kingdom shall be broken, and shall be divided toward the four winds of heaven; and not to his posterity, nor according to his dominion which he ruled: for his kingdom shall be plucked up, even for others beside those.

⁵پادشاه جنوب به قدرت می رسد، اما یکی از سردارانش علیه او قیام کرده سلطنت را از دست او می گیرد و با قدرت زیادتری حکومت می کند.

⁵And the king of the south shall be strong, and one of his princes; and he shall be strong above him, and have dominion; his dominion shall be a great dominion.

⁶چند سال بعد، پادشاهان جنوب و شمال پیمان صلح امضاء می کنند و برای تحکیم این پیمان، دختر پادشاه جنوب با پادشاه شمال ازدواج می کند. اما عمر این پیمان خیلی کوتاه خواهد بود، زیرا آن دختر با پدر و همراهانش کشته می شوند.

⁶And in the end of years they shall join themselves together; for the king's daughter of the south shall come to the king of the north to make an agreement: but she shall not retain the power of the arm; neither shall he stand, nor his arm: but she shall be given up, and they that brought her, and he that begat her, and he that strengthened her in these times.

⁷بعد یکی از خویشاوندان آن دختر پادشاه جنوب می شود و علیه پادشاه شمال به جنگ می رود و به قلعۀ او داخل شده او را شکست می دهد.

⁷But out of a branch of her roots shall one stand up in his estate, which shall come with an army, and shall enter into the fortress of the king of the north, and shall deal against them, and shall prevail:

⁸بتها و ظروف قیمتی طلا و نقرۀ سوریه را با خود به مصر می برد. سپس برای مدتی صلح برقرار می شود.

⁸And shall also carry captives into Egypt their gods, with their princes, and with their precious vessels of silver and of gold; and he shall continue more years than the king of the north.

⁹بعد پادشاه شمال به جنوب حمله می کند، اما شکست می خورد.

⁹So the king of the south shall come into his kingdom, and shall return into his own land.

¹⁰پسران پادشاه شمال با سپاه بزرگی برای جنگ آماده می شوند و مانند سیل داخل مملکت پادشاه جنوب شده به قلعۀ نظامی دشمن حمله می برند.

¹⁰But his sons shall be stirred up, and shall assemble a multitude of great forces: and one shall certainly come, and overflow, and pass through: then shall he return, and be stirred up, even to his fortress.

¹¹آنگاه پادشاه جنوب با خشم زیاد به جنگ پادشاه شمال می رود و سپاه بزرگ او را شکست می دهد.

¹¹And the king of the south shall be moved with choler, and shall come forth and fight with him, even with the king of the north: and he shall set forth a great multitude; but the multitude shall be given into his hand.

¹²پادشاه جنوب از این پیروزی مغرور شده هزاران نفر از دشمنان خود را نیست و نابود می کند، اما قدرت او دوامی نمی داشته باشد.

¹²And when he hath taken away the multitude, his heart shall be lifted up; and he shall cast down many ten thousands: but he shall not be strengthened by it.

¹³چند سال بعد پادشاه شمال به کشور خود مراجعت می کند و سپاهی را بزرگتر و مجهزتر از قبل تشکیل می دهد تا در وقت مناسب دوباره به جنگ برود.

¹³For the king of the north shall return, and shall set forth a multitude greater than the former, and shall certainly come after certain years with a great army and with much riches.

¹⁴در آن زمان عدۀ زیادی علیه پادشاه جنوب قیام می کنند و حتی بعضی از آشوبگران قوم تو با آن ها همدست می شوند تا همه پیشگوئی ها تحقق یابند، اما همگی شکست می خورند.

¹⁴And in those times there shall many stand up against the king of the south: also the robbers of thy people shall exalt themselves to establish the vision; but they shall fall.

¹⁵آنگاه پادشاه شمال می آید و شهر مستحکم را محاصره و تصرف می کند. قشون پادشاه جنوب از جنگ دست می کشند و حتی بهترین عساکر آن ها نمی توانند مقاومت نمایند.

¹⁵So the king of the north shall come, and cast up a mount, and take the most fenced cities: and the arms of the south shall not withstand, neither his chosen people, neither shall there be any strength to withstand.

¹⁶تجاوزگران پادشاه شمال هرچه دل شان بخواهد می کنند و هیچ کسی قادر نمی باشد که از آن ها ممانعت نماید. به کشور زیبای اسرائیل داخل می شوند و آن را ویران می کنند.

¹⁶But he that cometh against him shall do according to his own will, and none shall stand before him: and he shall stand in the glorious land, which by his hand shall be consumed.

¹⁷پادشاه شمال برای تصرف تمام کشور پادشاه جنوب نقشه می کشد و برای این منظور با پادشاه جنوب پیمان می بندد و یکی از دختران خود را به همسری او می دهد، اما نقشه اش عملی نمی شود.

¹⁷He shall also set his face to enter with the strength of his whole kingdom, and upright ones with him; thus shall he do: and he shall give him the daughter of women, corrupting her: but she shall not stand on his side, neither be for him.

¹⁸آنگاه متوجه کشورهای ساحلی می گردد و بسیاری از آن ها را تصرف می کند. اما یکی از فرمانده ها او را شکست می دهد و او با ذلت و خواری عقب نشینی می کند.

¹⁸After this shall he turn his face unto the isles, and shall take many: but a prince for his own behalf shall cause the reproach offered by him to cease; without his own reproach he shall cause it to turn upon him.

¹⁹پادشاه شمال به وطن خود عزیمت می کند و همه چیزش به پایان می رسد.

¹⁹Then he shall turn his face toward the fort of his own land: but he shall stumble and fall, and not be found.

²⁰پس از او پادشاه دیگری به قدرت می رسد و بخاطر حفظ شوکت و تقویۀ بُنیۀ مالی سلطنت خود مأموری را می فرستد تا از مردم باج و خراج جمع کند. آن پادشاه در مدت کوتاهی کشته می شود، اما نه از خشم مردم یا در جنگ.»

²⁰Then shall stand up in his estate a raiser of taxes in the glory of the kingdom: but within few days he shall be destroyed, neither in anger, nor in battle.

²¹فرشته به کلام خود ادامه داده گفت: «پادشاه دیگر شمال، شخص شریری می باشد و او بدون اینکه حق پادشاهی را داشته باشد، ناگهان می آید و با حیله و نیرنگ زمام سلطنت را به دست می گیرد.

²¹And in his estate shall stand up a vile person, to whom they shall not give the honour of the kingdom: but he shall come in peaceably, and obtain the kingdom by flatteries.

²²او قدرت کاهن اعظم و از هر کسی دیگر را که با او مخالفت کند درهم می شکند.

²²And with the arms of a flood shall they be overflown from before him, and shall be broken; yea, also the prince of the covenant.

²³با عقد پیمان، مردم را فریب می دهد و باوجودیکه همدستان کمی می داشته باشد به قدرت می رسد.

²³And after the league made with him he shall work deceitfully: for he shall come up, and shall become strong with a small people.

²⁴او با یک حملۀ ناگهانی وارد حاصلخیز ترین ولایت می شود و کارهائی می کند که هیچیک از پدرانش نکرده بودند. غنایم جنگی را بین پیروان خود تقسیم می کند. بعد برای تصرف قلعه های جنگی نقشه می کشد، اما نقشه هایش عملی نمی شوند.

²⁴He shall enter peaceably even upon the fattest places of the province; and he shall do that which his fathers have not done, nor his fathers' fathers; he shall scatter among them the prey, and spoil, and riches: yea, and he shall forecast his devices against the strong holds, even for a time.

²⁵بعد جرأت یافته سپاه بزرگی را برای جنگ با پادشاه جنوب آماده می کند. پادشاه جنوب هم با لشکر بسیار بزرگ و نیرومند به جنگ او می رود، اما در اثر توطئه ای شکست می خورد.

²⁵And he shall stir up his power and his courage against the king of the south with a great army; and the king of the south shall be stirred up to battle with a very great and mighty army; but he shall not stand: for they shall forecast devices against him.

²⁶مشاورین نزدیک او باعث سقوط او می شود و بسیاری از عساکرش تار و مار شده به قتل می رسند.

²⁶Yea, they that feed of the portion of his meat shall destroy him, and his army shall overflow: and many shall fall down slain.

²⁷بعد این دو پادشاه در حالیکه بر ضد یکدیگر توطئه چیده اند، بر سر یک سفره می نشینند و غذا می خورند و به هم دروغ می گویند، اما هیچیک به مرام خود نمی رسد، زیرا هنوز وقت معین آن نرسیده است.

²⁷And both of these kings' hearts shall be to do mischief, and they shall speak lies at one table; but it shall not prosper: for yet the end shall be at the time appointed.

²⁸پس پادشاه شمال با غنایم فراوان دوباره عازم وطن خود می شود و در راه بازگشت، ضد پیمان مقدس عمل نموده و در آنجا باعث خرابی های زیادی می شود و بعد به مملکت خود بر می گردد.

²⁸Then shall he return into his land with great riches; and his heart shall be against the holy covenant; and he shall do exploits, and return to his own land.

²⁹بعد در وقت معین یکبار دیگر به جنوب لشکرکشی می کند، اما این بار نتیجۀ عملش با دفعات قبل فرق می داشته باشد،

²⁹At the time appointed he shall return, and come toward the south; but it shall not be as the former, or as the latter.

³⁰زیرا قومی از غرب با کشتی های خود به مقابلۀ او می آیند و او وحشتزده عقب نشینی می کند. پادشاه شمال از این شکست به خشم می آید و با مشورۀ آنهای که پیمان مقدس خود را ترک کرده اند برای از بین بردن پیمان مقدس قوم برگزیدۀ خدا می رود

³⁰For the ships of Chittim shall come against him: therefore he shall be grieved, and return, and have indignation against the holy covenant: so shall he do; he shall even return, and have intelligence with them that forsake the holy covenant.

³¹و عساکرش عبادتگاه را آلوده می سازند. او مانع اجرای قربانی های روزانه می شود و «مکروه ویرانگر» را در عبادتگاه خدا قرار می دهد.

³¹And arms shall stand on his part, and they shall pollute the sanctuary of strength, and shall take away the daily sacrifice, and they shall place the abomination that maketh desolate.

³²با حیله و نیرنگ یهودیانی را که ضد پیمان مقدس شرارت ورزیده اند، طرفدار خود می سازد، اما کسانیکه خدا را می شناسند مخالف و مانع او می شوند.

³²And such as do wickedly against the covenant shall he corrupt by flatteries: but the people that do know their God shall be strong, and do exploits.

³³در آن وقت دانشمندانِ قوم شروع به تعلیم دادن مردم می کنند، اما عده ای از آن ها در آتش انداخته می شوند، بعضی با شمشیر بقتل می رسند و برخی از آن ها زندانی و تاراج می گردند.

³³And they that understand among the people shall instruct many: yet they shall fall by the sword, and by flame, by captivity, and by spoil, many days.

³⁴اما در عین حال به پیروان خدا اندکی کمک می رسد. بعد بسیاری از مردمِ گمراه با حیله گری با آن ها ملحق می شوند.

³⁴Now when they shall fall, they shall be holpen with a little help: but many shall cleave to them with flatteries.

³⁵عده ای از دانشمندان بقتل می رسند، این باعث می شود که قوم برگزیدۀ خدا پاک و بی آلایش گردند. این وضع تا زمانی که وقت معین فرا رسد، ادامه می یابد.

³⁵And some of them of understanding shall fall, to try them, and to purge, and to make them white, even to the time of the end: because it is yet for a time appointed.

³⁶پادشاه شمال هرچه دلش بخواهد، می کند. او خود را برتر و بالا تر از خدایان دیگر می داند و به خدای خدایان کفر می گوید و تا زمان مجازاتش فرا برسد، به این کار ادامه می دهد، زیرا آنچه را که خدا مقرر فرموده است، واقع می شود.

³⁶And the king shall do according to his will; and he shall exalt himself, and magnify himself above every god, and shall speak marvellous things against the God of gods, and shall prosper till the indignation be accomplished: for that that is determined shall be done.

³⁷پادشاه نه به خدائی که پدرانش او را بندگی می کردند توجه می کند و نه به خدائی که محبوب زنان می باشد. در واقع او به هیچ خدائی توجه نمی کند، زیرا او خود را والاتر از هر خدائی می پندارد.

³⁷Neither shall he regard the God of his fathers, nor the desire of women, nor regard any god: for he shall magnify himself above all.

³⁸یگانه خدائی را که می پرستد، آن خدائی خواهد بود که از قلعه های مستحکم محافظت می کند. به این خدائی که پدرانش او را نمی شناختند، طلا و نقره، سنگهای گرانبها و هدایای نفیس تقدیم می کند.

³⁸But in his estate shall he honour the God of forces: and a god whom his fathers knew not shall he honour with gold, and silver, and with precious stones, and pleasant things.

³⁹با اتکاء به این خدای بیگانه به قلعه های مستحکم حمله می برد و کسانی را که از او اطاعت کنند به قدرت و حکومت می رساند و بعنوان پاداش زمین را بین آن ها تقسیم می کند.

³⁹Thus shall he do in the most strong holds with a strange god, whom he shall acknowledge and increase with glory: and he shall cause them to rule over many, and shall divide the land for gain.

⁴⁰سرانجام، پادشاه جنوب به جنگ پادشاه شمال می آید و او هم با عراده های جنگی و سواران و کشتیهای زیاد مانند گِردباد به مقابلۀ او می شتابد. پادشاه شمال سیل آسا به کشورهای زیادی حمله می برد

⁴⁰And at the time of the end shall the king of the south push at him: and the king of the north shall come against him like a whirlwind, with chariots, and with horsemen, and with many ships; and he shall enter into the countries, and shall overflow and pass over.

⁴¹و همه را تصرف می کند. سرزمین اسرائیل را هم مورد تاخت و تاز قرار می دهد، اما از بین این اقوام، ادومیان و موآبیان و اکثر عمونیان نجات می یابند.

⁴¹He shall enter also into the glorious land, and many countries shall be overthrown: but these shall escape out of his hand, even Edom, and Moab, and the chief of the children of Ammon.

⁴²حتی مصر و کشورهای بسیار دیگر هم از دست او در امان نمی مانند.

⁴²He shall stretch forth his hand also upon the countries: and the land of Egypt shall not escape.

⁴³او تمام خزانه های طلا و نقره و اشیای نفیس مصر را تاراج می کند. مردم لیبیا و حبشه به او باج و خراج می دهند.

⁴³But he shall have power over the treasures of gold and of silver, and over all the precious things of Egypt: and the Libyans and the Ethiopians shall be at his steps.

⁴⁴اما از جانب مشرق و شمال خبرهائی به گوش او می رسد و او را مضطرب و پریشان می سازد. پس خشمگین و برافروخته برگشته، در سر راه خود مردمان زیادی را نابود می کند.بین دو دریا و کوهِ مقدس که عبادتگاه در آن واقع است، خیمه های شاهانۀ خود را برپا می کند. اما در همانجا اجلش می رسد و بدون اینکه کسی به او کمک کند، می میرد.»

⁴⁴But tidings out of the east and out of the north shall trouble him: therefore he shall go forth with great fury to destroy, and utterly to make away many.

⁴⁵بین دو دریا و کوهِ مقدس که عبادتگاه در آن واقع است، خیمه های شاهانۀ خود را برپا می کند. اما در همانجا اجلش می رسد و بدون اینکه کسی به او کمک کند، می میرد.»

⁴⁵And he shall plant the tabernacles of his palace between the seas in the glorious holy mountain; yet he shall come to his end, and none shall help him.
