1موسی تمام قوم اسرائیل را یکجا جمع کرده به آن ها گفت: «ای قوم اسرائیل به احکام و فرایضی که امروز به شما می دهم گوش بدهید. آن ها را بیاموزید و به دقت از آن ها پیروی کنید.
1And Moses called all Israel, and said unto them, Hear, O Israel, the statutes and judgments which I speak in your ears this day, that ye may learn them, and keep, and do them.
2خداوند، خدای ما در حوریب پیمانی با ما بست.
2The LORD our God made a covenant with us in Horeb.
3این پیمان را نه با اجداد ما، بلکه با خود ما که امروز همه در همین جا زنده هستیم، بست.
3The LORD made not this covenant with our fathers, but with us, even us, who are all of us here alive this day.
4خداوند در آن کوه از میان آتش، روبرو با شما حرف زد.
4The LORD talked with you face to face in the mount out of the midst of the fire,
5در آن وقت من بین خداوند و شما ایستاده بودم، زیرا شما از آن آتش می ترسیدید و به بالای کوه نرفتید. خداوند فرمود:
5(I stood between the LORD and you at that time, to show you the word of the LORD: for ye were afraid by reason of the fire, and went not up into the mount;) saying,
6«من خداوند، خدای تو هستم که ترا از مصر که در آنجا در غلامی بسر می بردی بیرون آوردم.
6I am the LORD thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.
7خدای دیگر غیر از من نداشته باش.
7Thou shalt have none other gods before me.
8هیچگونه مجسمه یا بتی به شکل آنچه که بالا در آسمان و از آنچه پائین بر روی زمین و آنچه در آب زیر زمین است، برای خود نساز.
8Thou shalt not make thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the waters beneath the earth:
9در برابر آن ها زانو نزن و آن ها را پرستش نکن، زیرا من خداوند، که خدای تو می باشم، خدای غیور و حسود هستم و کسانی را که با من دشمنی کنند، تا نسل سوم و چهارم مجازات می کنم.
9Thou shalt not bow down thyself unto them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me,
10ولی به کسانی که مرا دوست دارند و از احکام من پیروی می کنند، تا هزار پشت رحمت می کنم.
10And showing mercy unto thousands of them that love me and keep my commandments.
11نام خداوند، خدایت را به باطل بر زبان نیاور، زیرا کسیکه از نام خداوند سوءاستفاده کند، خداوند او را مجازات می کند.
11Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain: for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.
12روز سَبَت را به یاد داشته باش و آنرا مقدس بدار، چنانکه خداوند، خدایت به تو امر فرموده است.
12Keep the sabbath day to sanctify it, as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee.
13شش روز مشغول باش و هر کار خود را بکن،
13Six days thou shalt labor, and do all thy work:
14اما در روز هفتم که سَبَت خداوند، خدای تو است، هیچ کار نکن. نه خودت، نه فرزندانت، نه غلامت، نه کنیزت، نه گاوت، نه الاغت، نه حیوانات دیگرت و نه بیگانگانی که در جوار تان زندگی می کنند. تا غلام و کنیزت مثل خودت فرصتی برای استراحت داشته باشند.
14But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, nor thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thine ox, nor thine ass, nor any of thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates; that thy manservant and thy maidservant may rest as well as thou.
15فراموش نکن که تو در مصر غلام بودی و خداوند، خدایت با بازوی توانا و قدرت عظیم خود ترا از آنجا بیرون آورد، پس خداوند، خدایت امر کرده که روز سَبَت را تجلیل کنی.
15And remember that thou wast a servant in the land of Egypt, and that the LORD thy God brought thee out thence through a mighty hand and by a stretched out arm: therefore the LORD thy God commanded thee to keep the sabbath day.
16پدر و مادرت را احترام کن، چنانکه خداوند، خدایت فرموده است، تا در سرزمینی که خداوند، خدایت به تو می بخشد عمر طولانی و پُر برکتی داشته باشی.
16Honor thy father and thy mother, as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee; that thy days may be prolonged, and that it may go well with thee, in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.
17قتل نکن.
17Thou shalt not kill.
18زنا نکن.
18Neither shalt thou commit adultery.
19دزدی نکن.
19Neither shalt thou steal.
20به کسی شهادت دروغ نده.
20Neither shalt thou bear false witness against thy neighbor.
21به زن همسایه ات طمع نورز و به خانه، زمین، غلام، کنیز، گاو، الاغ و هر چیزیکه مال همسایه ات می باشد، طمع نکن.»
21Neither shalt thou desire thy neighbor's wife, neither shalt thou covet thy neighbor's house, his field, or his manservant, or his maidservant, his ox, or his ass, or any thing that is thy neighbor's.
22خداوند این احکام را در کوه سینا با آواز بلند از میان آتش، ابر و تاریکی غلیظ اعلام فرمود و چیز دیگری به آن ها نیفزود. او آن ها را بر دو لوحۀ سنگی نوشت و به من داد.
22These words the LORD spake unto all your assembly in the mount out of the midst of the fire, of the cloud, and of the thick darkness, with a great voice: and he added no more. And he wrote them in two tables of stone, and delivered them unto me.
23چون شما صدای او را از تاریکی شنیدید و کوه را که با آتش شعله ور بود دیدید. با سرکردگان قوم خود پیش من آمدید
23And it came to pass, when ye heard the voice out of the midst of the darkness, (for the mountain did burn with fire,) that ye came near unto me, even all the heads of your tribes, and your elders;
24و گفتید: «خداوند، خدای ما جلال و عظمت خود را به ما نشان داد و ما صدای او را از میان آتش شنیدیم. امروز فهمیدیم که خدا می تواند با انسان صحبت کند و بازهم زنده بماند.
24And ye said, Behold, the LORD our God hath showed us his glory and his greatness, and we have heard his voice out of the midst of the fire: we have seen this day that God doth talk with man, and he liveth.
25اما اگر بار دیگر صدای خداوند، خدای خود را بشنویم، حتماً می میریم. این آتش هولناک ما را می سوزاند،
25Now therefore why should we die? for this great fire will consume us: if we hear the voice of the LORD our God any more, then we shall die.
26زیرا تا به حال هیچ انسانی نتوانسته است که صدای خدای زنده را، مثلیکه ما شنیدیم، بشنود و زنده بماند.
26For who is there of all flesh, that hath heard the voice of the living God speaking out of the midst of the fire, as we have, and lived?
27پس خودت برو و به همه سخنان خداوند، خدای ما گوش بده. بعد بیا و هر چیزی را که خداوند، خدای ما فرمود به ما بگو. آنگاه ما به اوامر خداوند گوش می دهیم و از آن ها اطاعت می کنیم.»
27Go thou near, and hear all that the LORD our God shall say: and speak thou unto us all that the LORD our God shall speak unto thee; and we will hear it, and do it.
28خداوند تقاضای شما را قبول کرد و به من فرمود: «آنچه را که این مردم به تو گفتند شنیدم و می پذیرم.
28And the LORD heard the voice of your words, when ye spake unto me; and the LORD said unto me, I have heard the voice of the words of this people, which they have spoken unto thee: they have well said all that they have spoken.
29اما ای کاش همیشه به همین فکر و خیال باشند و از من بترسند و احکام مرا بجا آورند تا آن ها و همچنین فرزندان شان تا نسلهای آینده در آن سرزمین زندگی آسوده و پُر برکتی داشته باشند.
29O that there were such an heart in them, that they would fear me, and keep all my commandments always, that it might be well with them, and with their children for ever!
30حالا برو و به آن ها بگو که به خیمه های خود برگردند.
30Go say to them, Get you into your tents again.
31اما تو همینجا در حضور من بمان و من تمام احکام، قوانین و فرایض خود را به تو می دهم تا تو به آن ها تعلیم بدهی و آن ها همه را در آن سرزمینی که به آن ها می بخشم بجا آورند.»
31But as for thee, stand thou here by me, and I will speak unto thee all the commandments, and the statutes, and the judgments, which thou shalt teach them, that they may do them in the land which I give them to possess it.
32پس شما بدقت از اوامر خداوند اطاعت کنید و از آن ها سرپیچی ننمائید.طریق خداوند، خدای تان را دنبال کنید تا در سرزمینی که آنرا تصرف می کنید، زندگی طولانی و آسوده ای داشته باشید.
32Ye shall observe to do therefore as the LORD your God hath commanded you: ye shall not turn aside to the right hand or to the left.
33طریق خداوند، خدای تان را دنبال کنید تا در سرزمینی که آنرا تصرف می کنید، زندگی طولانی و آسوده ای داشته باشید.
33Ye shall walk in all the ways which the LORD your God hath commanded you, that ye may live, and that it may be well with you, and that ye may prolong your days in the land which ye shall possess.
