1خداوند به موسی فرمود: «تو از اینجا حرکت کرده و این قومی را که از مصر بیرون آوردی به سرزمینی که وعدۀ ملکیت آن را به ابراهیم و اسحاق و یعقوب و اولادۀ شان داده ام، هدایت کن.
1And the LORD said unto Moses, Depart, and go up hence, thou and the people which thou hast brought up out of the land of Egypt, unto the land which I sware unto Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, saying, Unto thy seed will I give it:
2من فرشته ای را می فرستم تا شما را راهنمائی کند. تمام کنعانیان، اموریان، حِتیان، فرزیان، حویان و یبوسیان را از سر راه تان بیرون میرانم
2And I will send an angel before thee; and I will drive out the Canaanite, the Amorite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite:
3و شما به سرزمینی حاصلخیز و پُر برکت می روید. اما من در این سفر با شما همراه نخواهم بود، زیرا شما مردمی سرکش هستید و ممکن است شما را در بین راه نابود کنم.»
3Unto a land flowing with milk and honey: for I will not go up in the midst of thee; for thou art a stiffnecked people: lest I consume thee in the way.
4موقعی که مردم این سخنان را شنیدند، ماتم گرفتند و هیچ کسی جواهرات و زیورات نپوشید.
4And when the people heard these evil tidings, they mourned: and no man did put on him his ornaments.
5خداوند به موسی فرمود که به آن ها بگوید: «شما مردم نافرمان هستید اگر حتی یک لحظه با شما باشم شما را هلاک خواهم کرد. حالا تمام زیورات و جواهرات خود را از خود دور کنید تا ببینم که با شما چه کنم.»
5For the LORD had said unto Moses, Say unto the children of Israel, Ye are a stiffnecked people: I will come up into the midst of thee in a moment, and consume thee: therefore now put off thy ornaments from thee, that I may know what to do unto thee.
6بنابراین، بنی اسرائیل بعد از عزیمت از کوه سینا دیگر هرگز از جواهر آلات خود استفاده نکردند.
6And the children of Israel stripped themselves of their ornaments by the mount Horeb.
7هر گاهی که بنی اسرائیل اردوگاه را بر پا می کردند، موسی خیمه مقدس را بر می داشت و کمی دور در بیرون اردوگاه می افراشت. آن خیمه را «خیمۀ حضور خداوند» نامیده بود. هر کسی که می خواست با خداوند راز و نیاز کند به آن خیمه می رفت.
7And Moses took the tabernacle, and pitched it without the camp, afar off from the camp, and called it the Tabernacle of the congregation. And it came to pass, that every one which sought the LORD went out unto the tabernacle of the congregation, which was without the camp.
8هر وقتی که موسی به آن خیمه می رفت، تمام مردم دم دروازۀ خیمه های خود می ایستادند و ورود او را به آن خیمه تماشا می کردند.
8And it came to pass, when Moses went out unto the tabernacle, that all the people rose up, and stood every man at his tent door, and looked after Moses, until he was gone into the tabernacle.
9بعد از اینکه موسی به داخل خیمه می رفت، ستون ابر پائین می آمد و در کنار دروازۀ خیمه می ایستاد و خداوند از داخل ابر با موسی صحبت می کرد.
9And it came to pass, as Moses entered into the tabernacle, the cloudy pillar descended, and stood at the door of the tabernacle, and the Lord talked with Moses.
10همینکه مردم ستون ابر را در کنار دروازۀ خیمه می دیدند، همگی به سجده می افتادند.
10And all the people saw the cloudy pillar stand at the tabernacle door: and all the people rose up and worshipped, every man in his tent door.
11خداوند مثل کسیکه به یک دوست خود حرف می زند با موسی رو به رو به صحبت می پرداخت. سپس موسی به طرف اردوگاه بر می گشت، اما معاون جوان او، یعنی یوشع بن نون در خیمه می ماند.
11And the LORD spake unto Moses face to face, as a man speaketh unto his friend. And he turned again into the camp: but his servant Joshua, the son of Nun, a young man, departed not out of the tabernacle.
12موسی به خداوند عرض کرد: «تو به من فرمودی که این قوم را به سرزمین موعود رهبری کنم، اما به من نگفتی که چه کسی را با من خواهی فرستاد. تو گفته ای که مرا خوب می شناسی و از من راضی هستی.
12And Moses said unto the LORD, See, thou sayest unto me, Bring up this people: and thou hast not let me know whom thou wilt send with me. Yet thou hast said, I know thee by name, and thou hast also found grace in my sight.
13پس اگر اینطور است، اراده ات را برای من روشن ساز تا آنطوری که شاید و باید بتوانم بندگی ترا نموده و خوشنودی ات را حاصل کنم. همچنین می دانی که اینها قوم برگزیدۀ تو هستند.»
13Now therefore, I pray thee, if I have found grace in thy sight, show me now thy way, that I may know thee, that I may find grace in thy sight: and consider that this nation is thy people.
14خداوند فرمود: «من با تو خواهم رفت و ترا موفق خواهم ساخت.»
14And he said, My presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest.
15موسی در جواب عرض کرد: «اگر نمی خواهی با ما بروی، پس نگذار که اینجا را ترک کنیم.
15And he said unto him, If thy presence go not with me, carry us not up hence.
16اگر تو با ما همراه نباشی، چطور بدانیم که تو از قوم برگزیده ات راضی هستی و نسبت به سایر اقوام روی زمین چه امتیازی داریم؟»
16For wherein shall it be known here that I and thy people have found grace in thy sight? is it not in that thou goest with us? so shall we be separated, I and thy people, from all the people that are upon the face of the earth.
17خداوند به موسی فرمود: «هر چه که خواسته ای انجام خواهم داد، زیرا تو را بخوبی می شناسم و از تو راضی هستم.»
17And the LORD said unto Moses, I will do this thing also that thou hast spoken: for thou hast found grace in my sight, and I know thee by name.
18سپس موسی گفت: «تمنا می کنم که نور جمال خود را بر من آشکار سازی.»
18And he said, I beseech thee, show me thy glory.
19خداوند فرمود: «من شکوه خود را در برابر تو می گسترانم و نام مقدس خود را بتو اعلام می کنم. من خداوند هستم. نسبت به کسانی که دلسوز هستم، دلسوزی خواهم کرد و بر هر کسی که بخواهم مهربان باشم، مهربان خواهم بود.
19And he said, I will make all my goodness pass before thee, and I will proclaim the name of the LORD before thee; and will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will show mercy on whom I will show mercy.
20اما من نمی گذارم که روی مرا ببینی، زیرا کسی نمی تواند روی مرا ببیند و زنده بماند.
20And he said, Thou canst not see my face: for there shall no man see me, and live.
21حالا بیا و بر این صخره، در کنار من بایست.
21And the LORD said, Behold, there is a place by me, and thou shalt stand upon a rock:
22وقتی که نور پُر شکوه حضور من عبور کند، ترا در شگاف این صخره می گذارم و با دست خود می پوشانم تا از اینجا بگذرمو بعد دست خود را بر می دارم و تو می توانی مرا از پشت ببینی، ولی روی مرا نخواهی دید.»
22And it shall come to pass, while my glory passeth by, that I will put thee in a cleft of the rock, and will cover thee with my hand while I pass by:
23و بعد دست خود را بر می دارم و تو می توانی مرا از پشت ببینی، ولی روی مرا نخواهی دید.»
23And I will take away mine hand, and thou shalt see my back parts: but my face shall not be seen.
