¹کلام خداوند بر من نازل شد:

¹Again the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

²«ای انسان خاکی، به قوم خود بگو که اگر من لشکری را به جنگ یک کشور بفرستم و مردم آن کشور شخصی را بعنوان دیده بان بگمارند،

²Son of man, speak to the children of thy people, and say unto them, When I bring the sword upon a land, if the people of the land take a man of their coasts, and set him for their watchman:

³و وقتی آن دیده بان ببیند که لشکر دشمن نزدیک می شود و زنگ خطر را بصدا درآورد و به مردم خبر بدهد،

³If when he seeth the sword come upon the land, he blow the trumpet, and warn the people;

⁴و اگر کسی زنگ خطر را بشنود و به آن توجه نکند و در جنگ کشته شود، پس آن شخص مسئول مرگ خودش می باشد.

⁴Then whosoever heareth the sound of the trumpet, and taketh not warning; if the sword come, and take him away, his blood shall be upon his own head.

⁵زیرا زنگ خطر را شنید، اما به آن توجه نکرد، بنابران خونش بگردن خودش می باشد. ولی اگر خطر را جدی می گرفت، خود را از مرگ نجات می داد.

⁵He heard the sound of the trumpet, and took not warning; his blood shall be upon him. But he that taketh warning shall deliver his soul.

⁶هرگاه دیده بان نزدیک شدن سپاه دشمن را ببیند و زنگ خطر را بصدا نیاورد و به مردم خبر ندهد و دشمن بیاید و مردم را بکشد، آن ها در گناه خود می میرند و در آنصورت دیده بان مسئول مرگ شان می باشد.

⁶But if the watchman see the sword come, and blow not the trumpet, and the people be not warned; if the sword come, and take any person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at the watchman's hand.

⁷پس ای انسان خاکی من ترا بحیث دیده بان قوم اسرائیل گماشته ام تا هر چیزی که از زبان من می شنوی به آن ها خبر بدهی.

⁷So thou, O son of man, I have set thee a watchman unto the house of Israel; therefore thou shalt hear the word at my mouth, and warn them from me.

⁸اگر به شخص شریری بگویم: «تو حتماً می میری!» و تو از اخطار من به او خبر ندهی تا دیگر به راه خطا نرود. آن شخص در گناه خود می میرد و تو مسئول مرگ او می باشی.

⁸When I say unto the wicked, O wicked man, thou shalt surely die; if thou dost not speak to warn the wicked from his way, that wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thine hand.

⁹اما اگر تو به آن مرد شریر بگوئی که از گناه دست بکشد و او قبول نکند، او در گناه خودش می میرد و تو از مرگ نجات می یابی.»

⁹Nevertheless, if thou warn the wicked of his way to turn from it; if he do not turn from his way, he shall die in his iniquity; but thou hast delivered thy soul.

¹⁰خداوند به من فرمود: «ای انسان خاکی به قوم اسرائیل بگو شما می گوئید: «بار گناه و خطای ما بسیار سنگین است و ما را ضعیف و ناتوان ساخته است، پس چطور می توانیم زندگی کنیم؟»

¹⁰Therefore, O thou son of man, speak unto the house of Israel; Thus ye speak, saying, If our transgressions and our sins be upon us, and we pine away in them, how should we then live?

¹¹به آن ها بگو خداوند می فرماید: «آنچنان که من خدای زنده هستم، به حیات خودم قسم که من از مرگ شخص شریر خوشنود نمی شوم، بلکه می خواهم که او از راه بدی که در پیش گرفته است بازگردد و زنده بماند. ای قوم اسرائیل، از راه خطا بازگشت کنید و از رفتن بسوی گناه صرف نظر کنید. چرا باید بمیرید؟»

¹¹Say unto them, As I live, saith the Lord GOD, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live: turn ye, turn ye from your evil ways; for why will ye die, O house of Israel?

¹²ای انسان خاکی، به قوم خود بگو که اگر یک شخص نیک عمل گناهی بکند، اعمال نیکش او را نجات نمی دهد. اگر یک شخص بدکردار از کارهای بد خود دست بکشد و توبه کند، گناهانی که کرده است باعث هلاکت او نمی شوند و شخص راستکار اگر گناه کند، بخاطر اعمال نیک گذشته اش از هلاکت نجات نمی یابد.

¹²Therefore, thou son of man, say unto the children of thy people, The righteousness of the righteous shall not deliver him in the day of his transgression: as for the wickedness of the wicked, he shall not fall thereby in the day that he turneth from his wickedness; neither shall the righteous be able to live for his righteousness in the day that he sinneth.

¹³پس من می گویم که مرد نیک عمل زنده می ماند، اما اگر به این فکر باشد که در گذشته بقدر کافی کارهای خوبی انجام داده است و مرتکب گناه گردد، هیچیک از اعمال نیک او بیاد آورده نمی شود.

¹³When I shall say to the righteous, that he shall surely live; if he trust to his own righteousness, and commit iniquity, all his righteousnesses shall not be remembered; but for his iniquity that he hath committed, he shall die for it.

¹⁴وقتی به یک مرد شریر بگویم که می میرد و او از گناه دست بکشد و نیک عمل گردد،

¹⁴Again, when I say unto the wicked, Thou shalt surely die; if he turn from his sin, and do that which is lawful and right;

¹⁵مثلاً قرض خود را ادا کند، آنچه را که دزدیده است به صاحبش پس بدهد، در راه راست قدم بردارد و پیرو قانون باشد و مرتکب خطا نشود، البته زنده می ماند و نمی میرد.

¹⁵If the wicked restore the pledge, give again that he had robbed, walk in the statutes of life, without committing iniquity; he shall surely live, he shall not die.

¹⁶گناهان گذشته اش بیاد آورده نمی شوند، زیرا شخص نیک عمل و راستکار شده است.

¹⁶None of his sins that he hath committed shall be mentioned unto him: he hath done that which is lawful and right; he shall surely live.

¹⁷بازهم قوم تو می گویند که من بی انصاف هستم. نه، خود آن ها بی انصاف هستند نه من.

¹⁷Yet the children of thy people say, The way of the Lord is not equal: but as for them, their way is not equal.

¹⁸باز می گویم که اگر یک شخص راستکار دست به گناه و خطا بزند، حتماً می میرد.

¹⁸When the righteous turneth from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, he shall even die thereby.

¹⁹برعکس، هرگاه شخص شریری از اعمال بد خود دست بکشد و توبه کند و آنچه را که راست و درست است انجام دهد، زنده می ماند.

¹⁹But if the wicked turn from his wickedness, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall live thereby.

²⁰اما قوم اسرائیل می گویند که من عادل و با انصاف نیستم. ای قوم اسرائیل، بدانید که من شما را مطابق اعمال تان داوری می کنم.»

²⁰Yet ye say, The way of the Lord is not equal. O ye house of Israel, I will judge you every one after his ways.

²¹در روز پنجمِ ماهِ دهمِ سالِ دوازدهم تبعید ما، شخصی که از اورشلیم فرار کرده بود، پیش من آمد و گفت: «شهر اورشلیم به تصرف دشمن درآمده است.»

²¹And it came to pass in the twelfth year of our captivity, in the tenth month, in the fifth day of the month, that one that had escaped out of Jerusalem came unto me, saying, The city is smitten.

²²شب گذشته، پیش از آمدن آن فراری، خداوند زبانم را جاری ساخت. فردای آن، یعنی بعد از رسیدن شخص فراری توانستم دوباره حرف بزنم.

²²Now the hand of the LORD was upon me in the evening, afore he that was escaped came; and had opened my mouth, until he came to me in the morning; and my mouth was opened, and I was no more dumb.

²³کلام خداوند بر من نازل شد:

²³Then the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

²⁴«ای انسان خاکی، ساکنین سرزمین خرابۀ اسرائیل می گویند: «ابراهیم تنها یک نفر بود، با آنهم مالک تمام این سرزمین شد. پس چون تعداد ما زیاد است می توانیم به آسانی آن را دوباره به دست آوریم.»

²⁴Son of man, they that inhabit those wastes of the land of Israel speak, saying, Abraham was one, and he inherited the land: but we are many; the land is given us for inheritance.

²⁵به آن ها بگو خداوند متعال می فرماید: شما گوشت را با خونش می خورید، بت پرستی می کنید و خون مردم را می ریزید، بازهم می خواهید که وارث این سرزمین شوید؟

²⁵Wherefore say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Ye eat with the blood, and lift up your eyes toward your idols, and shed blood: and shall ye possess the land?

²⁶شما به شمشیر خود اتکاء می کنید، به کارهای زشت و قبیح دست می زنید، زن همسایه را بی عفت می سازید، پس آیا روا است که آن را به شما بدهم؟

²⁶Ye stand upon your sword, ye work abomination, and ye defile every one his neighbour's wife: and shall ye possess the land?

²⁷به آن ها بگو خداوند متعال می فرماید: آنچنان که من خداوند زنده هستم، بحیات خودم قسم، همۀ این مردمی که در این سرزمین ویران زندگی می کنند، با شمشیر کشته می شوند، کسانی که در صحرا بسر می برند، خوراک حیوانات وحشی می گردند و آنهائی که در قلعه های مستحکم و مغاره ها سکونت دارند، با مرض و بیماری می میرند.

²⁷Say thou thus unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; As I live, surely they that are in the wastes shall fall by the sword, and him that is in the open field will I give to the beasts to be devoured, and they that be in the forts and in the caves shall die of the pestilence.

²⁸این سرزمین را متروک و ویران می سازم و به غرور مردم آن خاتمه می دهم. کوهستان های اسرائیل را طوری خراب می کنم که هیچ رهگذری از آنجا عبور نخواهد کرد.

²⁸For I will lay the land most desolate, and the pomp of her strength shall cease; and the mountains of Israel shall be desolate, that none shall pass through.

²⁹وقتی آن سرزمین را بخاطر اعمال زشت مردم آن ویران و متروک ساختم، آنگاه می دانند که من خداوند هستم.

²⁹Then shall they know that I am the LORD, when I have laid the land most desolate because of all their abominations which they have committed.

³⁰خداوند فرمود: ای انسان خاکی، قوم تو که در پیش دیوار ها و دم دروازۀ خانه های خود جمع می شوند و در بارۀ تو می گویند: «بیائید پیش او برویم و بشنویم که خداوند به او چه گفته است.»

³⁰Also, thou son of man, the children of thy people still are talking against thee by the walls and in the doors of the houses, and speak one to another, every one to his brother, saying, Come, I pray you, and hear what is the word that cometh forth from the LORD.

³¹پس قوم برگزیدۀ من می آیند و در مقابل تو می نشینند تا به سخنانت گوش بدهند، اما آن ها از آنچه که تو می گوئی اطاعت نمی کنند. آن ها تنها در پی منافع خود هستند.

³¹And they come unto thee as the people cometh, and they sit before thee as my people, and they hear thy words, but they will not do them: for with their mouth they shew much love, but their heart goeth after their covetousness.

³²تو در نظر آن ها مثل سراینده ای هستی که با ساز و آواز دلنشین آن ها را سرگرم می کند. آن ها به آنچه که می گوئی گوش می دهند ولی به آن عمل نمی کنند،اما وقتی گفتار تو به حقیقت برسد، آنگاه می دانند که یک نبی در بین شان وجود دارد.»

³²And, lo, thou art unto them as a very lovely song of one that hath a pleasant voice, and can play well on an instrument: for they hear thy words, but they do them not.

³³اما وقتی گفتار تو به حقیقت برسد، آنگاه می دانند که یک نبی در بین شان وجود دارد.»

³³And when this cometh to pass, (lo, it will come,) then shall they know that a prophet hath been among them.
