¹وقتی عِزرا در مقابل عبادتگاه سر بر زمین نهاده بود و گریه کنان به گناهان اعتراف می کرد، گروه کثیری از قوم اسرائیل، زن و مرد و کودک، همه دور او جمع شده بودند و سخت گریه می کردند.

¹Now when Ezra had prayed, and when he had confessed, weeping and casting himself down before the house of God, there assembled unto him out of Israel a very great congregation of men and women and children: for the people wept very sore.

²آنگاه شِکَنیا فرزند یهی ئیل از خاندان عیلام به عِزرا گفت: «ما بخاطر ازدواج با زنان بیگانه عهد و وفای خود را نسبت به خداوند شکسته ایم. با وجود آن هنوز هم برای قوم اسرائیل امیدی وجود دارد.

²And Shechaniah the son of Jehiel, one of the sons of Elam, answered and said unto Ezra, We have trespassed against our God, and have taken strange wives of the people of the land: yet now there is hope in Israel concerning this thing.

³اکنون باید در برابر خدای خود جداً عهد ببندیم که از زنان و فرزندان خود جدا شویم. ما آنچه را تو و آنهائی که به احکام خداوند احترام می گذارند، بگوئید اطاعت خواهیم کرد، و آنچه را شریعت خداوند از ما بخواهد، بجا خواهیم آورد.

³Now therefore let us make a covenant with our God to put away all the wives, and such as are born of them, according to the counsel of my lord, and of those that tremble at the commandment of our God; and let it be done according to the law.

⁴این مسئولیت به عهدۀ تو است، تو ما را در انجام آن رهبری کن و ما از تو پشتیبانی خواهیم کرد.»

⁴Arise; for this matter belongeth unto thee: we also will be with thee: be of good courage, and do it.

⁵پس عِزرا از رهبران قوم و کاهنان و لاویان و بقیۀ مردم خواست سوگند یاد کنند که طبق پیشنهاد شِکَنیا عمل خواهند کرد و همۀ آن ها قسم خوردند.

⁵Then arose Ezra, and made the chief priests, the Levites, and all Israel, to swear that they should do according to this word. And they sware.

⁶بعد از آن از پیشروی عبادتگاه به اطاق یَهُوحانان فرزند اَلِیاشیب رفت و تمام شب را بدون آن که چیزی بخورد یا بنوشد به خاطر بی ایمانی تبعید شدگان در ماتم و غصه سپری کرد.

⁶Then Ezra rose up from before the house of God, and went into the chamber of Johanan the son of Eliashib: and when he came thither, he did eat no bread, nor drink water: for he mourned because of the transgression of them that had been carried away.

⁷پس پیامی به سر تا سر اورشلیم و یهودیه فرستاده شد تا تمام کسانی که از تبعید برگشته بودند، باید طبق امر رهبران قوم در شهر اورشلیم جمع شوند،

⁷And they made proclamation throughout Judah and Jerusalem unto all the children of the captivity, that they should gather themselves together unto Jerusalem;

⁸و اگر کسی در ظرف سه روز حاضر نشود، تمام اموال او مصادره و خودش از جامعه طرد خواهد شد.

⁸And that whosoever would not come within three days, according to the counsel of the princes and the elders, all his substance should be forfeited, and himself separated from the congregation of those that had been carried away.

⁹بعد از سه روز، یعنی روز بیستم ماه نهم، تمام مردانی که در سرزمین یهودا و بنیامین زندگی می کردند، به اورشلیم آمدند و در صحن عبادتگاه جمع شدند. باران شدیدی می بارید و مردم هم به خاطر هوا و هم به دلیل اهمیت جلسه، همه بر خود می لرزیدند.

⁹Then all the men of Judah and Benjamin gathered themselves together unto Jerusalem within three days. It was the ninth month, on the twentieth day of the month; and all the people sat in the street of the house of God, trembling because of this matter, and for the great rain.

¹⁰عِزرای کاهن از جای خود بلند شد و خطاب به آن ها گفت: «شما مرتکب خیانت شده اید و بخاطر ازدواج تان با زنان بیگانه بر گناهان قوم اسرائیل افزوده اید.

¹⁰And Ezra the priest stood up, and said unto them, Ye have transgressed, and have taken strange wives, to increase the trespass of Israel.

¹¹پس اکنون به گناهان خود به حضور خداوند، خدای اجداد خویش، اعتراف کنید و با اعمال نیک خود او را خوشنود سازید. خود را از بیگانگانی که در بین شما زندگی می کنند جدا کنید و از دست زنهای بیگانه خود را رها سازید.»

¹¹Now therefore make confession unto the LORD God of your fathers, and do his pleasure: and separate yourselves from the people of the land, and from the strange wives.

¹²مردم با صدای بلند در جواب او گفتند: «به هر چه تو بگوئی ما عمل خواهیم کرد.»

¹²Then all the congregation answered and said with a loud voice, As thou hast said, so must we do.

¹³آن ها همچنین گفتند: «جمعیت زیاد است، باران شدیدی می بارد، ما نمی توانیم در این مکان بدون سرپوش بایستیم. این چیزی نیست که بتوان در ظرف یک یا دو روز انجام داد، چون عدۀ زیادی از ما گرفتار این گناه شده ایم.

¹³But the people are many, and it is a time of much rain, and we are not able to stand without, neither is this a work of one day or two: for we are many that have transgressed in this thing.

¹⁴اجازه بده سران قوم ما در اورشلیم بمانند و به این موضوع رسیدگی کنند، آنگاه هر کس زن بیگانه دارد، در یک وقت معین همراه رهبران و داوران شهر خود به اینجا بیاید. به این وسیله، خشم خدا در این مورد رفع خواهد شد.»

¹⁴Let now our rulers of all the congregation stand, and let all them which have taken strange wives in our cities come at appointed times, and with them the elders of every city, and the judges thereof, until the fierce wrath of our God for this matter be turned from us.

¹⁵هیچ کس با این پیشنهاد مخالف نبود جز یُوناتان، فرزند عَسائیل و یَحزیا، فرزند تِقوَه که از حمایت مِشُلام و یک لاوی به نام شَبتائی بر خوردار بودند.

¹⁵Only Jonathan the son of Asahel and Jahaziah the son of Tikvah were employed about this matter: and Meshullam and Shabbethai the Levite helped them.

¹⁶همه کسانی که از تبعید برگشته بودند، با این نظریه موافقه کردند، پس عِزرای کاهن از بین سران قبایل افرادی را برگزید و نامهای آن ها را ثبت کرد. در روز اول ماه دهم آن ها بررسی خود را شروع کردند،

¹⁶And the children of the captivity did so. And Ezra the priest, with certain chief of the fathers, after the house of their fathers, and all of them by their names, were separated, and sat down in the first day of the tenth month to examine the matter.

¹⁷و در ظرف سه ماه تحقیق کاملی در مورد تمام مردانی که با زنهای بیگانه ازدواج کرده بودند، به عمل آمد.

¹⁷And they made an end with all the men that had taken strange wives by the first day of the first month.

¹⁸نامهای کسانی که زنهای بیگانه داشتند به این شرح است: از کاهنان به ترتیب هر خاندان عبارت بودند از: خاندان یشوع فرزند یُوصاداق و برادرانش مَعَسیا، اَلِیَعَزر، یاریب و جَدَلیا.

¹⁸And among the sons of the priests there were found that had taken strange wives: namely, of the sons of Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and his brethren; Maaseiah, and Eliezer, and Jarib, and Gedaliah.

¹⁹آن ها قول دادند زنان خود را طلاق دهند، و در ضمن یک قوچ برای آمرزش گناهان خود قربانی کردند.

¹⁹And they gave their hands that they would put away their wives; and being guilty, they offered a ram of the flock for their trespass.

²⁰از خاندان اِمیر: حَنانی و زَبَدیا.

²⁰And of the sons of Immer; Hanani, and Zebadiah.

²¹از خاندان حاریم: مَعَسیا، ایلیا، شِمَعیه، یحیئیل و عُزیا.

²¹And of the sons of Harim; Maaseiah, and Elijah, and Shemaiah, and Jehiel, and Uzziah.

²²از خاندان فَشحور: اَلیُوعِینای، مَعَسیا، اسماعیل، نتنائیل، یُوزاباد، و اَلعاسه.

²²And of the sons of Pashur; Elioenai, Maaseiah, Ishmael, Nethaneel, Jozabad, and Elasah.

²³از لاویان: یُوزاباد، شِمعی، قَلایا (که قَلیطا نیز نامیده می شود)، فَتَحیا، یهودا، و اَلِیَعَزر.

²³Also of the Levites; Jozabad, and Shimei, and Kelaiah, (the same is Kelita,) Pethahiah, Judah, and Eliezer.

²⁴از سرایندگان: اَلِیاشیب. از نگهبانان عبادتگاه: شلوم، طالَم و اُوری.

²⁴Of the singers also; Eliashib: and of the porters; Shallum, and Telem, and Uri.

²⁵و بقیه: از خاندان فرعوش: رَمیا، یِزِیا، مَلکیا، مِیامین، اَلِعازار، مَلکیا و بنایا.

²⁵Moreover of Israel: of the sons of Parosh; Ramiah, and Jeziah, and Malchiah, and Miamin, and Eleazar, and Malchijah, and Benaiah.

²⁶از خاندان عیلام: مَتَنیا، زَکَریا، یحیئیل، عبدی، یَریموت، و ایلیا.

²⁶And of the sons of Elam; Mattaniah, Zechariah, and Jehiel, and Abdi, and Jeremoth, and Eliah.

²⁷از خاندان زتو: اَلیُوعِینای، اَلِیاشیب، مَتَنیا، یَریموت، زاباد، و عَزیزا.

²⁷And of the sons of Zattu; Elioenai, Eliashib, Mattaniah, and Jeremoth, and Zabad, and Aziza.

²⁸از خاندان بابای: یَهُوحانان، حَنَنیا، زَبای، و عَتلای.

²⁸Of the sons also of Bebai; Jehohanan, Hananiah, Zabbai, and Athlai.

²⁹از خاندان بانی: مَشُلام، مَلوک، عدایا، یاشوب، شِال، و راموت.

²⁹And of the sons of Bani; Meshullam, Malluch, and Adaiah, Jashub, and Sheal, and Ramoth.

³⁰از خاندان فَحَت موآب: عَدنا، کَلال، بنایا، مَعَسیا، مَتَنِیا، بزل ئیل، بِنوی، مَنَسّی.

³⁰And of the sons of Pahathmoab; Adna, and Chelal, Benaiah, Maaseiah, Mattaniah, Bezaleel, and Binnui, and Manasseh.

³¹از خاندان حاریم: اَلِیَعَزر، اِشِیا، مَلکیا، شِمَعیه، و شَمعون، بنیامین، مَلوک، شَمریا.

³¹And of the sons of Harim; Eliezer, Ishijah, Malchiah, Shemaiah, Shimeon,

³²از خاندان هاشوم: مَتِنای، متاته، زاباد، اَلِیفَلَط، یَریمای، مَنَسّی و شِمعی.

³²Benjamin, Malluch, and Shemariah.

³³از خاندان بانی: مَعَدای، عَمرام، اویل، بنایا، بِیدِیا، کَلوهی، وَنیا، مریموت، اَلِیاشیب مَتَنیا، مَتِنای، یَعسُو.

³³Of the sons of Hashum; Mattenai, Mattathah, Zabad, Eliphelet, Jeremai, Manasseh, and Shimei.

³⁴از خاندان بِنوی: شِمعی، شلمیا، ناتان، عدایا، مَکنَدبای، شاشای، شارای، عَزرئیل، شلمیا، شَمریا، شلوم، اَمَریا، و یوسف.

³⁴Of the sons of Bani; Maadai, Amram, and Uel,

³⁵از خاندان نِبو: یعی ئیل، مَتتیا، زاباد، زَبینا، یدُو، یوئیل و بنایا.بعضی از این مردان از زنان بیگانه خود دارای اولاد بودند.

³⁵Benaiah, Bedeiah, Chelluh,

³⁶بعضی از این مردان از زنان بیگانه خود دارای اولاد بودند.

³⁶Vaniah, Meremoth, Eliashib,

³⁷Mattaniah, Mattenai, and Jaasau,

³⁸And Bani, and Binnui, Shimei,

³⁹And Shelemiah, and Nathan, and Adaiah,

⁴⁰Machnadebai, Shashai, Sharai,

⁴¹Azareel, and Shelemiah, Shemariah,

⁴²Shallum, Amariah, and Joseph.

⁴³Of the sons of Nebo; Jeiel, Mattithiah, Zabad, Zebina, Jadau, and Joel, Benaiah.

⁴⁴All these had taken strange wives: and some of them had wives by whom they had children.
