¹بسیاری از تبعید شدگان بابل را ترک کردند و به شهرهای خود در اورشلیم و یهودیه برگشتند. خانواده های آن ها از زمانی که نبوکدنصر آن ها را اسیر کرده بود در بابل زندگی می کردند.

⁶تعداد لاویانی که به وطن برگشتند: یشوع و قَدمی ئیل (از نسل هودویا) ـ هفتاد و چهار نفر؛ سرایندگان عبادتگاه (از نسل آساف) ـ یکصد و بیست و هشت نفر؛ نگهبانان عبادتگاه (از خاندان شلوم، آطیر، طَلمون، عَقوب، حَطیطا و شوبای) ـ یکصد و سی و نُه نفر.

⁷از خادمان عبادتگاه خاندانهای زیر از تبعید برگشتند: صیحا، حَسوفا، تباعوت، قیروس، سیعَها، فادون، لبانه، حَجابَه، عَقوب، حاجاب، شَملای، حانان، جِدیل، جَحَر، رایه، رزین، نِقودا، جَزام، عُزه، فاسیح، بیسای، اَسنَه، معونیم، نَفوسیم، بَقبُوق، حَقوفا، حَرحور، بَزلُوت، محیدا، حَرشا، بَرقُوس، سِیسَرا، تامَح، نَصیح، و حَطیفا.

⁸از خادمین سلیمان خاندان های زیر از تبعید برگشتند: سوطای، هَسوفرت، فِرودا، یعله، دَرقون، جِدیل، شِفَطیا، حَطیل، فُوخَرَتِ، ظبائیم، و آمی.

⁹جمع کارگران عبادتگاه و خادمین سلیمان که از تبعید برگشتند سیصد و نود و دو نفر بود.

⁹The children of Zaccai, seven hundred and threescore.

¹⁰ششصد و پنجاه و دو نفر به خاندان های دِلایا، طوبیا، و نِقودا تعلق داشتند. اینها از آبادی های تِل مِلح، تِل حَرشا، کِروب، اَدان، و اِمیر آمده بودند، ولی نمی توانستند ثابت کنند که از نسل قوم اسرائیل هستند یا نه.

¹⁰The children of Bani, six hundred forty and two.

¹¹خاندان های زیر که از گروه کاهنان بودند نتوانستند مدارک لازم را برای اثبات نسب خود به کاهنان پیدا کنند: حَبایا، هَقوس، و بَرزِلای (که با یکی از دختران بَرزِلای جِلعادی ازدواج کرده بود و نام فامیل خسر خود را هم انتخاب کرده بود.) چون آن ها نتوانستند اصل و نسب خود را ثابت کنند از وظیفۀ کاهنی محروم شدند.

¹²فرماندار یهودی به آن ها اجازه نداد از غذاهای نذری که تقدیم عبادتگاه می شد بخورند مگر آن که کاهنی در آنجا حضور می داشت و می توانست از اوریم و تُمیم استفاده کند. (اوریم و تُمیم دو چیزی بودند که جهت پی بردن خواست و ارادۀ خداوند توسط کاهنان به کار برده می شد.)

¹³مجموع افرادی که از تبعید برگشتند ـ چهل و دوهزار و سیصد و شصت نفر؛ خادمین آن ها (هم زن و هم مرد) ـ هفت هزار و سیصد و سی و هفت نفر؛ سرایندگان (هم زن و هم مرد) ـ دوصد نفر؛ اسپ ـ هفتصد و سی و شش راس؛ قاطر ـ دوصد و چهل و پنج؛ شتر ـ چهارصد و سی و پنج؛ الاغ ـ ششهزار و هفتصد و بیست.

¹⁵هر کس به اندازۀ توان خود کمک کرد و جمع هدایای آن ها بالغ بر پنجصد کیلو طلا، دوهزار و هشتصد کیلو نقره و صد ردای کاهنان می شد.کاهنان، لاویان، و بعضی از مردم در داخل یا شهرهای اطراف اورشلیم ساکن شدند. سرایندگان، نگهبانان عبادتگاه، و کارگران عبادتگاه در نزدیکی شهرها جا گرفتند و بقیۀ بنی اسرائیل در همان شهرهائی سکونت گزیدند که اجدادشان قبلاً زندگی می کردند.

⁵⁸All the Nethinims, and the children of Solomon's servants, were three hundred ninety and two.

⁵⁹And these were they which went up from Telmelah, Telharsa, Cherub, Addan, and Immer: but they could not shew their father's house, and their seed, whether they were of Israel:

⁶⁰The children of Delaiah, the children of Tobiah, the children of Nekoda, six hundred fifty and two.

⁶¹And of the children of the priests: the children of Habaiah, the children of Koz, the children of Barzillai; which took a wife of the daughters of Barzillai the Gileadite, and was called after their name:

⁶²These sought their register among those that were reckoned by genealogy, but they were not found: therefore were they, as polluted, put from the priesthood.

⁶³And the Tirshatha said unto them, that they should not eat of the most holy things, till there stood up a priest with Urim and with Thummim.

⁶⁴The whole congregation together was forty and two thousand three hundred and threescore,

⁶⁵Beside their servants and their maids, of whom there were seven thousand three hundred thirty and seven: and there were among them two hundred singing men and singing women.

⁶⁶Their horses were seven hundred thirty and six; their mules, two hundred forty and five;

⁶⁷Their camels, four hundred thirty and five; their asses, six thousand seven hundred and twenty.

⁶⁸And some of the chief of the fathers, when they came to the house of the LORD which is at Jerusalem, offered freely for the house of God to set it up in his place:

⁶⁹They gave after their ability unto the treasure of the work threescore and one thousand drams of gold, and five thousand pound of silver, and one hundred priests' garments.

⁷⁰So the priests, and the Levites, and some of the people, and the singers, and the porters, and the Nethinims, dwelt in their cities, and all Israel in their cities.
