1خدا به یعقوب فرمود: «برخیز و به بیت ئیل برو و در آنجا باش. در آنجا قربانگاهی برای من بساز، برای خدائی که وقتی از دست برادرت عیسو فرار می کردی بر تو ظاهر شد.»
1And God said unto Jacob, Arise, go up to Bethel, and dwell there: and make there an altar unto God, that appeared unto thee when thou fleddest from the face of Esau thy brother.
2پس یعقوب به خانواده و تمام کسانی که با او بودند گفت: «تمام بتهائی را که در میان شما است دور بیندازید. خود را پاک کنید و لباس نو بپوشید.
2Then Jacob said unto his household, and to all that were with him, Put away the strange gods that are among you, and be clean, and change your garments:
3ما از اینجا به بیت ئیل کوچ می کنیم. من در آنجا برای خدائی که هر جا رفتم با من بود، و در روز سختی به من کمک فرمود، قربانگاهی بنا خواهم کرد.»
3And let us arise, and go up to Bethel; and I will make there an altar unto God, who answered me in the day of my distress, and was with me in the way which I went.
4پس آن ها تمام بتهائی را که داشتند، همچنین تمام گوشواره هائی را که در گوش شان بود به یعقوب دادند. یعقوب آن ها را در زیر درخت بلوطی در شکیم پنهان کرد.
4And they gave unto Jacob all the strange gods which were in their hand, and all their earrings which were in their ears; and Jacob hid them under the oak which was by Shechem.
5وقتی یعقوب و پسرانش حرکت کردند، خوف خدا مردم شهر های اطراف را فرا گرفت. به این جهت آن ها پسران یعقوب را تعقیب نکردند.
5And they journeyed: and the terror of God was upon the cities that were round about them, and they did not pursue after the sons of Jacob.
6یعقوب با تمام همراهانش به لوز در سرزمین کنعان که امروز بیت ئیل نامیده می شود آمدند.
6So Jacob came to Luz, which is in the land of Canaan, that is, Bethel, he and all the people that were with him.
7او در آنجا قربانگاهی بنا کرد و نام آنجا را «خدای بیت ئیل» گذاشت، زیرا موقعی که او از دست برادر خود فرار می کرد، خدا خود را در آنجا بر او ظاهر کرد.
7And he built there an altar, and called the place Elbethel: because there God appeared unto him, when he fled from the face of his brother.
8دبوره، دایۀ ربکا مُرد. او را در زیر درخت بلوطی در جنوب بیت ئیل دفن کردند. به همین جهت نام آنرا «بلوط گریان» گذاشتند.
8But Deborah Rebekah's nurse died, and she was buried beneath Bethel under an oak: and the name of it was called Allonbachuth.
9وقتی یعقوب از بین النهرین برگشت، خدا دوباره بر او ظاهر شد و او را برکت داد.
9And God appeared unto Jacob again, when he came out of Padanaram, and blessed him.
10خدا به او فرمود: «نام تو یعقوب است، اما بعد از این نام تو اسرائیل است.» پس خدا نام او را اسرائیل گذاشت.
10And God said unto him, Thy name is Jacob: thy name shall not be called any more Jacob, but Israel shall be thy name: and he called his name Israel.
11خدا به او فرمود: «من خدای قادر مطلق هستم. تو صاحب فرزندان بسیار شو. اقوام و ملل از اولادۀ تو به وجود آیند و تو جد پادشاهان می شوی.
11And God said unto him, I am God Almighty: be fruitful and multiply; a nation and a company of nations shall be of thee, and kings shall come out of thy loins;
12من سرزمینی را که به ابراهیم و اسحاق دادم به تو و بعد از تو به فرزندان تو می دهم.»
12And the land which I gave Abraham and Isaac, to thee I will give it, and to thy seed after thee will I give the land.
13سپس خدا از نزد او به عالم بالا رفت.
13And God went up from him in the place where he talked with him.
14یعقوب در همان جائی که خدا با او گفتگو کرد یک ستون سنگی بر پا کرد و هدیۀ نوشیدنی و روغن زیتون بر آن ریخت و آنرا تقدیس نمود.
14And Jacob set up a pillar in the place where he talked with him, even a pillar of stone: and he poured a drink offering thereon, and he poured oil thereon.
15او نام آنجا را بیت ئیل گذاشت، زیرا در آنجا خدا با او صحبت کرده بود.
15And Jacob called the name of the place where God spake with him, Bethel.
16یعقوب و خانواده اش بیت ئیل را ترک کردند. هنوز تا فرات فاصلۀ زیادی داشتند که موقع وضع حمل راحیل رسید. وضع حمل او بسیار مشکل بود.
16And they journeyed from Bethel; and there was but a little way to come to Ephrath: and Rachel travailed, and she had hard labor.
17موقعی که درد زایمان او بسیار شدید شده بود. قابله به او گفت: «نترس، این هم پسر است.»
17And it came to pass, when she was in hard labor, that the midwife said unto her, Fear not; thou shalt have this son also.
18ولی او در حال مرگ بود و در همان حال نام پسر خود را بن اونی، یعنی «پسر غم من» گذاشت، ولی پدرش او را بنیامین، یعنی «پسر دست راست من» نامید.
18And it came to pass, as her soul was in departing, (for she died) that she called his name Benoni: but his father called him Benjamin.
19راحیل مُرد و او را در کنار راه افراته که حالا بیت لحم نامیده می شود، دفن کردند.
19And Rachel died, and was buried in the way to Ephrath, which is Bethlehem.
20یعقوب بر سر قبر او یک ستون سنگی بنا کرد که هنوز هم آن ستون بر روی قبر راحیل وجود دارد.
20And Jacob set a pillar upon her grave: that is the pillar of Rachel's grave unto this day.
21اسرائیل از آنجا کوچ کرد و خیمه های خود را در طرف دیگر برج عِیدَر زد.
21And Israel journeyed, and spread his tent beyond the tower of Edar.
22وقتی یعقوب در آنجا سکونت داشت، رئوبین با بلهه یکی از زنهای صورتی پدر خود هم خواب شد و یعقوب این موضوع را فهمید.
پسران یعقوب دوازده نفر بودند.
22And it came to pass, when Israel dwelt in that land, that Reuben went and lay with Bilhah his father's concubine: and Israel heard it. Now the sons of Jacob were twelve:
23پسران لیه عبارت بودند از: رئوبین (پسر بزرگ یعقوب)، شمعون، لاوی، یهودا، ایسَسکار و زبولون.
23The sons of Leah; Reuben, Jacob's firstborn, and Simeon, and Levi, and Judah, and Issachar, and Zebulun:
24یوسف و بنیامین پسران راحیل بودند.
24The sons of Rachel; Joseph, and Benjamin:
25دان و نفتالی پسران بلهه کنیز راحیل بودند.
25And the sons of Bilhah, Rachel's handmaid; Dan, and Naphtali:
26جاد و اَشیر پسران زلفه کنیز لیه بودند. این پسران در بین النهرین متولد شدند.
26And the sons of Zilpah, Leah's handmaid: Gad, and Asher: these are the sons of Jacob, which were born to him in Padanaram.
27یعقوب به ممری نزدیک حبرون ـ جائی که ابراهیم و اسحاق زندگی می کردند ـ به دیدن پدر خود اسحاق رفت.
27And Jacob came unto Isaac his father unto Mamre, unto the city of Arba, which is Hebron, where Abraham and Isaac sojourned.
28اسحاق صد و هشتاد سال داشت.او در حالیکه کاملاً پیر شده بود وفات یافت. پسرانش عیسو و یعقوب او را دفن کردند.
28And the days of Isaac were an hundred and fourscore years.
29او در حالیکه کاملاً پیر شده بود وفات یافت. پسرانش عیسو و یعقوب او را دفن کردند.
29And Isaac gave up the ghost, and died, and was gathered unto his people, being old and full of days: and his sons Esau and Jacob buried him.
