¹ای قوم اسرائیل، به کلام خداوند گوش بدهید. خداوند ساکنین این سرزمین را متهم می سازد، زیرا در آنجا وفاداری، صداقت و خدا شناسی وجود ندارد.

¹Hear the word of the LORD, ye children of Israel: for the LORD hath a controversy with the inhabitants of the land, because there is no truth, nor mercy, nor knowledge of God in the land.

²مردم لعنت می کنند، دروغ می گویند، آدم می کشند، مرتکب دزدی و زنا می شوند و پیهم خون می ریزند.

²By swearing, and lying, and killing, and stealing, and committing adultery, they break out, and blood toucheth blood.

³بنابران زمین خشک می شود و همه ساکنین آن همراه با حیوانات وحشی، مرغان هوا و حتی ماهیان دریا از بین می روند.

³Therefore shall the land mourn, and every one that dwelleth therein shall languish, with the beasts of the field, and with the fowls of heaven; yea, the fishes of the sea also shall be taken away.

⁴خداوند می فرماید: «اما هیچ کسی نباید شخص دیگری را ملامت کند و او را گناهکار بداند. ای کاهنان، شما مقصر هستید.

⁴Yet let no man strive, nor reprove another: for thy people are as they that strive with the priest.

⁵شب و روز مرتکب خطا و لغزش می شوید. انبیاء هم بهتر از شما نیستند. من مادر تان، اسرائیل را نابود می کنم.

⁵Therefore shalt thou fall in the day, and the prophet also shall fall with thee in the night, and I will destroy thy mother.

⁶قوم برگزیدۀ من بخاطری که مرا نمی شناسند هلاک می شوند. شما هم نخواستید که مرا بشناسید، لهذا من هم شما را بعنوان کاهن خود قبول نمی کنم. چون قوانین مرا فراموش کرده اید، بنابران من نیز فرزندان تان را فراموش می کنم.

⁶My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.

⁷هرقدر تعداد آن ها زیاد شد، به همان اندازه در مقابل من گناه ورزیدند. پس من شوکت و شکوه آن ها را به ننگ و رسوائی تبدیل می کنم.

⁷As they were increased, so they sinned against me: therefore will I change their glory into shame.

⁸کاهنان از گناهان مردم برای منفعت شخصی خود استفاده می کنند و با حرص زیاد مردم را به گناه کردن تشویق می نمایند،

⁸They eat up the sin of my people, and they set their heart on their iniquity.

⁹بنابراین، هم کاهنان و هم مردم را بخاطر گناهان شان مجازات می کنم.

⁹And there shall be, like people, like priest: and I will punish them for their ways, and reward them their doings.

¹⁰آن ها خواهند خورد، ولی سیر نخواهند شد؛ زنا خواهند کرد، ولی زیاد نخواهند شد؛ زیرا آن ها مرا که خدای شان هستم از یاد برده و پیرو خدایان دیگر شده اند.

¹⁰For they shall eat, and not have enough: they shall commit whoredom, and shall not increase: because they have left off to take heed to the LORD.

¹¹خداوند می فرماید: زنا و شراب کهنه و نو، عقل قوم برگزیدۀ مرا زایل کرده است.

¹¹Whoredom and wine and new wine take away the heart.

¹²آن ها از یک تکه چوب بی جان مشوره می طلبند و از عصای چوبی می خواهند که از آینده به آن ها خبر بدهد. شوق و علاقه به زنا آن ها را گمراه ساخته است و دلبستگی به این عمل باعث شد که مرا فراموش کنند.

¹²My people ask counsel at their stocks, and their staff declareth unto them: for the spirit of whoredoms hath caused them to err, and they have gone a whoring from under their God.

¹³بر کوهها و بالای تپه ها برای بتها قربانی می کنند. در زیر هر درخت بلوط و هر نوع درختان دیگر یک بت دارند. در آنجا دختران تان فاحشه گری و عروسان تان زنا می کنند.

¹³They sacrifice upon the tops of the mountains, and burn incense upon the hills, under oaks and poplars and elms, because the shadow thereof is good: therefore your daughters shall commit whoredom, and your spouses shall commit adultery.

¹⁴اما من دختران و عروسان تان را بخاطر آن اعمال شان مجازات نمی کنم، زیرا مردها خود شان با فاحشه های معبد در جاهای خلوت می روند و با آن ها یکجا برای خدایان غیر قربانی تقدیم می کنند. بنابران، این مردم بخاطری که نادان هستند، نابود می شوند.

¹⁴I will not punish your daughters when they commit whoredom, nor your spouses when they commit adultery: for themselves are separated with whores, and they sacrifice with harlots: therefore the people that doth not understand shall fall.

¹⁵گرچه اسرائیل زنا می کند، اما ای یهودا، نمی خواهم که تو مرتکب چنین گناهی شوی. از روی ریا در جِلجال و یا بیت آوَن برای عبادت نرو و بنام من قسم نخور.

¹⁵Though thou, Israel, play the harlot, yet let not Judah offend; and come not ye unto Gilgal, neither go ye up to Bethaven, nor swear, The LORD liveth.

¹⁶مثل اسرائیل نباش که مانند یک گوسالۀ نافرمان سرکشی می کند و نمی خواهد همچون بره ای در چراگاه های وسیع و خُرم تغذیه اش کنم.

¹⁶For Israel slideth back as a backsliding heifer: now the LORD will feed them as a lamb in a large place.

¹⁷مردم اسرائیل دلبستۀ بتها شده اند، پس به راه آن ها نرو.

¹⁷Ephraim is joined to idols: let him alone.

¹⁸آن ها بعد از آنکه شراب نوشیدند، برای ارضای شهوت بدنبال فاحشه ها می روند. آن ها افتضاح را بر عزت و شرافت ترجیح می دهند.بنابران دستخوش باد شدیدی می شوند و بخاطر قربانی هائی که برای خدایان بیگانه می کنند خجل و رسوا می گردند.

¹⁸Their drink is sour: they have committed whoredom continually: her rulers with shame do love, Give ye.

¹⁹بنابران دستخوش باد شدیدی می شوند و بخاطر قربانی هائی که برای خدایان بیگانه می کنند خجل و رسوا می گردند.

¹⁹The wind hath bound her up in her wings, and they shall be ashamed because of their sacrifices.
