¹خداوند می فرماید: «ای بندۀ من یعقوب و ای اسرائیل قوم برگزیدۀ من، گوش بده!

¹Yet now hear, O Jacob my servant; and Israel, whom I have chosen:

²من خالق تو هستم و ترا در رَحِم مادر پرورش دادم و کمک کردم. ای بندۀ من یعقوب، تو قوم عزیز و برگزیدۀ من هستی، ترس را به دلت راه مده،

²Thus saith the LORD that made thee, and formed thee from the womb, which will help thee; Fear not, O Jacob, my servant; and thou, Jesurun, whom I have chosen.

³زیرا من زمین تشنه را سیراب می کنم و در کشتزارهای خشک نهرهای آب را جاری می سازم. روح خود را بر اولاده ات می ریزم و فرزندانت را از برکت خود برخوردار می کنم.

³For I will pour water upon him that is thirsty, and floods upon the dry ground: I will pour my spirit upon thy seed, and my blessing upon thine offspring:

⁴آن ها مانند سبزه های آبیاری شده و درختانِ بیدِ کنار دریا سبز می شوند و نمو می کنند.

⁴And they shall spring up as among the grass, as willows by the water courses.

⁵یکی می گوید: «من متعلق به خداوند هستم.» دیگری خود را بنام یعقوب یاد می کند. بعضی نام خداوند را بر دست خود می نویسند و برخی خود را اسرائیلی می نامند.»

⁵One shall say, I am the LORD's; and another shall call himself by the name of Jacob; and another shall subscribe with his hand unto the LORD, and surname himself by the name of Israel.

⁶خداوند قادر مطلق، پادشاه و نجات بخشای اسرائیل چنین می فرماید: «من اول و آخر هستم. بغیر از من خدای دیگری وجود ندارد

⁶Thus saith the LORD the King of Israel, and his redeemer the LORD of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God.

⁷و مثل و مانند من کسی نیست. اگر است، اعلام کند. آیا می تواند کارهائی را که من تا به حال کرده ام، انجام بدهد؟ آیا مثل من می تواند آینده را پیشگوئی کند؟

⁷And who, as I, shall call, and shall declare it, and set it in order for me, since I appointed the ancient people? and the things that are coming, and shall come, let them shew unto them.

⁸نترس و هراس نکن! آنچه را که می بایست اتفاق بیفتد، از اول به شما گفتم و شما شاهدان من هستید. آیا بغیر از من خدای دیگری هست؟ نه، من صخرۀ دیگری و خدای دیگری را نمی شناسم.»

⁸Fear ye not, neither be afraid: have not I told thee from that time, and have declared it? ye are even my witnesses. Is there a God beside me? yea, there is no God; I know not any.

⁹آنهائی که بت می سازند جاهل هستند و به چیزهائی دل می بندند که فایده ای برای شان ندارد. آنهائی که این بتها را می پرستند، نه می بینند و نه می فهمند و در نتیجه، خجل و شرمنده می شوند.

⁹They that make a graven image are all of them vanity; and their delectable things shall not profit; and they are their own witnesses; they see not, nor know; that they may be ashamed.

¹⁰کسی که با دست خود برای خود خدائی می سازد چه سودی دارد و چه کمکی برایش می کند؟

¹⁰Who hath formed a god, or molten a graven image that is profitable for nothing?

¹¹همه کسانی که بت می پرستند خجل می شوند و آنهائی که بت می سازند خود انسانی بیش نیستند، پس بگذارید در حضور خدا بایستند تا وحشت کنند و سرافگنده شوند.

¹¹Behold, all his fellows shall be ashamed: and the workmen, they are of men: let them all be gathered together, let them stand up; yet they shall fear, and they shall be ashamed together.

¹²آهنگر آهن را از کوره می گیرد و با ابزار و نیروی بازوی خود به آن شکل می دهد. در وقت کار گرسنه می شود و قوت خود را از دست می دهد و از تشنگی از حال می رود.

¹²The smith with the tongs both worketh in the coals, and fashioneth it with hammers, and worketh it with the strength of his arms: yea, he is hungry, and his strength faileth: he drinketh no water, and is faint.

¹³نجار تکه چوبی را گرفته آنرا اندازه می کند و با قلم صورتی را می کشد. بعد با رنده و تیشه بتی به شکل و زیبائی انسان می سازد و آنرا در خانۀ خود قرار می دهد.

¹³The carpenter stretcheth out his rule; he marketh it out with a line; he fitteth it with planes, and he marketh it out with the compass, and maketh it after the figure of a man, according to the beauty of a man; that it may remain in the house.

¹⁴درخت سرو یا صنوبر و یا بلوط را از جنگل قطع می کند و برای کار خود از چوب آن استفاده می نماید. یا درخت شمشاد را می کارد تا در زیر باران نمو کند.

¹⁴He heweth him down cedars, and taketh the cypress and the oak, which he strengtheneth for himself among the trees of the forest: he planteth an ash, and the rain doth nourish it.

¹⁵قسمتی از چوب درخت را گرفته از آن بحیث هیزم برای گرم کردن خود و برای پخت و پز کار می گیرد. از یک حصۀ آن خدائی می سازد و آنرا می پرستد و با همان چوب بتی می تراشد و در برابر آن سجده می کند.

¹⁵Then shall it be for a man to burn: for he will take thereof, and warm himself; yea, he kindleth it, and baketh bread; yea, he maketh a god, and worshippeth it; he maketh it a graven image, and falleth down thereto.

¹⁶یک قسمت چوب را می سوزاند و بالای آن گوشت را کباب می کند، غذا می پزد و شکم خود را سیر می سازد. یک قسمت دیگر آنرا آتش نموده خود را گرم می کند و می گوید: «واه واه، گرمی آتش را حس می کنم و چه خوب گرم شدم!»

¹⁶He burneth part thereof in the fire; with part thereof he eateth flesh; he roasteth roast, and is satisfied: yea, he warmeth himself, and saith, Aha, I am warm, I have seen the fire:

¹⁷از باقیماندۀ چوب برای خود خدائی می سازد و در برابر آن سجده نموده آنرا پرستش می کند. پیش آن دعا کرده می گوید: «تو خدای من هستی، مرا نجات بده!»

¹⁷And the residue thereof he maketh a god, even his graven image: he falleth down unto it, and worshippeth it, and prayeth unto it, and saith, Deliver me; for thou art my god.

¹⁸آن مردم فهم و شعور ندارند. چشمان و ضمیر شان در برابر حقیقت بسته اند و آن ها نه می بینند و نه درک می کنند.

¹⁸They have not known nor understood: for he hath shut their eyes, that they cannot see; and their hearts, that they cannot understand.

¹⁹کسی که بت می سازد عقل و شعور ندارد که بگوید: «نیم چوب را آتش کردم و بالای آن نان پختم و گوشت را کباب کردم و خوردم. حالا چطور می توانم از باقیماندۀ آن برای خود بت بسازم و در برابر یک تکه چوب سجده کنم؟»

¹⁹And none considereth in his heart, neither is there knowledge nor understanding to say, I have burned part of it in the fire; yea, also I have baked bread upon the coals thereof; I have roasted flesh, and eaten it: and shall I make the residue thereof an abomination? shall I fall down to the stock of a tree?

²⁰کسی که بت می سازد مثل اینست که با خاکستر شکم خود را سیر کند. افکار احمقانه اش او را گمراه می سازد و نمی داند که بتِ ساختۀ دست خودش نمی تواند خدا باشد.

²⁰He feedeth on ashes: a deceived heart hath turned him aside, that he cannot deliver his soul, nor say, Is there not a lie in my right hand?

²¹«ای اسرائیل، بیاد داشته باش که تو بندۀ من هستی. من ترا آفریده ام و هیچگاه ترا فراموش نمی کنم.

²¹Remember these, O Jacob and Israel; for thou art my servant: I have formed thee; thou art my servant: O Israel, thou shalt not be forgotten of me.

²²گناهانت را مانند ابری که از آسمان محو می شود، پاک کرده ام و خطاهایت را مثل غبار و دمۀ صبحگاهی زدوده ام. پس بسوی من بازگرد، زیرا بهای آزادی ترا پرداخته ام.»

²²I have blotted out, as a thick cloud, thy transgressions, and, as a cloud, thy sins: return unto me; for I have redeemed thee.

²³ای آسمان ها، سرود خوشی را بنوازید! ای اعماق زمین، فریاد شادمانی برآورید! ای کوهها و جنگلها و همه درختان، بسرائید، زیرا خداوند با رهائی بخشیدن اسرائیل، جلال و عظمت خود را نشان داد.

²³Sing, O ye heavens; for the LORD hath done it: shout, ye lower parts of the earth: break forth into singing, ye mountains, O forest, and every tree therein: for the LORD hath redeemed Jacob, and glorified himself in Israel.

²⁴خداوندِ نجات بخشای تو که ترا در رحم مادر پرورش داد، چنین می فرماید: «من خداوند و آفریدگار همه چیز هستم. به تنهائی آسمان ها را برافراشتم و زمین را پهن کردم.

²⁴Thus saith the LORD, thy redeemer, and he that formed thee from the womb, I am the LORD that maketh all things; that stretcheth forth the heavens alone; that spreadeth abroad the earth by myself;

²⁵من آن خدائی هستم که کلام دروغگویان را برملا می کنم و پیشگوئی رمالان را باطل می سازم. سخنان حکیمان را تکذیب می کنم و حکمت شان را به حماقت تبدیل می نمایم.

²⁵That frustrateth the tokens of the liars, and maketh diviners mad; that turneth wise men backward, and maketh their knowledge foolish;

²⁶اما سخنان بندگان خود را تأیید می کنم و این پیشگوئی رسولان خود را عملی می سازم که گفته اند: اورشلیم دوباره قابل سکونت می شود، شهرهای یهودا بار دیگر آباد می گردند و خرابی هایش ترمیم می شوند.

²⁶That confirmeth the word of his servant, and performeth the counsel of his messengers; that saith to Jerusalem, Thou shalt be inhabited; and to the cities of Judah, Ye shall be built, and I will raise up the decayed places thereof:

²⁷اگر به بحر بگویم که خشک گردد، خشک می شود و همچنین آب هائی را که در آن می ریزند، خشک می سازم.در بارۀ کوروش می گویم که من او را به رهبری برگزیده ام و هر چیزی که از او بخواهم، بجا می آورد. او اورشلیم را دوباره آباد می کند و تهداب عبادتگاه مرا می نهد.»

²⁷That saith to the deep, Be dry, and I will dry up thy rivers:

²⁸در بارۀ کوروش می گویم که من او را به رهبری برگزیده ام و هر چیزی که از او بخواهم، بجا می آورد. او اورشلیم را دوباره آباد می کند و تهداب عبادتگاه مرا می نهد.»

²⁸That saith of Cyrus, He is my shepherd, and shall perform all my pleasure: even saying to Jerusalem, Thou shalt be built; and to the temple, Thy foundation shall be laid.
