1ای قوم اسرائیل، به این پیام خداوند گوش بدهید
1Hear ye the word which the LORD speaketh unto you, O house of Israel:
2که به شما می فرماید: «از رسم و رواج اقوام دیگر تقلید نکنید و مثل آن ها از حرکت ستارگان و علامۀ افلاک نترسید،
2Thus saith the LORD, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them.
3زیرا راه و رسم آن ها غلط است. درختی را از جنگل می بُرند و نجار با تیشۀ خود از آن مجسمه ای می سازد.
3For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe.
4بعد آن را با نقره و طلا زینت داده با چکش و میخ در یک جائی محکمش می کند تا نیفتد.
4They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not.
5بت آن ها مانند آدمک سرِ خرمن در کُرد بادرنگ است که حرف زده نمی تواند و کسی باید آنرا بردارد و از یکجا به جای دیگر ببرد، زیرا راه رفته نمی تواند. پس شما نباید از آن ها بترسید، چونکه به کسی خیر یا شر رسانده نمی توانند.»
5They are upright as the palm tree, but speak not: they must needs be borne, because they cannot go. Be not afraid of them; for they cannot do evil, neither also is it in them to do good.
6ای خداوند، تو همتا نداری، چون تو باعظمت هستی و نام تو هم بزرگ و با قدرت است.
6Forasmuch as there is none like unto thee, O LORD; thou art great, and thy name is great in might.
7ای پادشاه اقوام جهان، کیست که از تو نترسد. تنها تو لایق ستایش هستی و در بین تمام حکیمان دنیا مثل تو کسی نیست.
7Who would not fear thee, O King of nations? for to thee doth it appertain: forasmuch as among all the wise men of the nations, and in all their kingdoms, there is none like unto thee.
8این مردم، نادان و احمق هستند. از بتهای چوبی چه می توانند بیاموزند؟
8But they are altogether brutish and foolish: the stock is a doctrine of vanities.
9از ترشیش نقرۀ کوبیده و از اوفاز طلا می آورند و صنعتگران و زرگران با آن ها بتها را پوش می کنند. بعد خیاطان ماهر از پارچه های آبی و بنفش برای آن ها لباس تهیه می کنند.
9Silver spread into plates is brought from Tarshish, and gold from Uphaz, the work of the workman, and of the hands of the founder: blue and purple is their clothing: they are all the work of cunning men.
10لاکن خداوند، خدای حق است. او خدای زنده و پادشاه ابدی می باشد. از خشم او تمام زمین می لرزد و اقوام جهان در برابر قهر او نمی توانند مقاومت کنند.
10But the LORD is the true God, he is the living God, and an everlasting king: at his wrath the earth shall tremble, and the nations shall not be able to abide his indignation.
11به آن مردم بگوئید: «خدایانی که آسمان ها و زمین را خلق نکرده اند، از روی زمین و از زیر آسمان محو می شوند.»
11Thus shall ye say unto them, The gods that have not made the heavens and the earth, even they shall perish from the earth, and from under these heavens.
12خداوند با دست قدرت خود زمین را ساخت و با حکمت خود جهان را بنا نهاد و با علم و دانش خود آسمان ها را برافراشت.
12He hath made the earth by his power, he hath established the world by his wisdom, and hath stretched out the heavens by his discretion.
13به امر او آب های آسمان به غرش می آیند و ابر ها را از دورترین نقاط آن آورده، رعد و برق و باران را می فرستد. باد را از محل و جایگاهش بیرون می آورد.
13When he uttereth his voice, there is a multitude of waters in the heavens, and he causeth the vapours to ascend from the ends of the earth; he maketh lightnings with rain, and bringeth forth the wind out of his treasures.
14مردمِ بت پرست، نادان و بی شعور اند. زرگرانی که بت می سازند، رسوا می شوند، زیرا چیزی را که می سازند دروغین و بیجان است.
14Every man is brutish in his knowledge: every founder is confounded by the graven image: for his molten image is falsehood, and there is no breath in them.
15این بتها بی ارزش و زبون اند و در روز محاکمه تلف می شوند.
15They are vanity, and the work of errors: in the time of their visitation they shall perish.
16اما خداوند، خدای یعقوب مثل آن بتها نیست، بلکه او خالق همه موجودات است. اسرائیل قوم برگزیدۀ او است و نام او خداوند، قادر مطلق می باشد.
16The portion of Jacob is not like them: for he is the former of all things; and Israel is the rod of his inheritance: The LORD of hosts is his name.
17ای کسانی که در محاصره هستید، دارائی تان را جمع کنید،
17Gather up thy wares out of the land, O inhabitant of the fortress.
18زیرا خداوند چنین می فرماید: «این بار ساکنین این سرزمین را ریشه کن می سازم و بلائی را نازل می کنم که دامنگیر همۀ آن ها شود.»
18For thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will sling out the inhabitants of the land at this once, and will distress them, that they may find it so.
19افسوس بحال من که زخمهای من عمیق اند و درمان پذیر نیستند. اما با خود گفتم که باید تحمل کنم، چون جزای من همین است.
19Woe is me for my hurt! my wound is grievous; but I said, Truly this is a grief, and I must bear it.
20خیمۀ من خراب شد و طنابها بریده شدند. فرزندانم از آغوشم رفتند دیگر آن ها را نمی بینم. کسی نیست که خیمۀ مرا دوباره برپا کند و پرده هایم را بیاویزد.
20My tabernacle is spoiled, and all my cords are broken: my children are gone forth of me, and they are not: there is none to stretch forth my tent any more, and to set up my curtains.
21رهبران ما احمق شده اند از خداوند هدایت نمی طلبند، بنابران، کامروا نمی شوند مردم شان مثل رمۀ بی چوپان پراگنده می گردند.
21For the pastors are become brutish, and have not sought the LORD: therefore they shall not prosper, and all their flocks shall be scattered.
22بشنوید! خبری از دور می آید و غوغای سپاه بزرگی از سمت شمال بگوش می رسد تا شهرهای یهودا را ویران کرده آن ها را مأوای شغالان سازند.
22Behold, the noise of the bruit is come, and a great commotion out of the north country, to make the cities of Judah desolate, and a den of dragons.
23ای خداوند، می دانم که انسان ادارۀ سرنوشت خود را در دست ندارد و قادر نیست که مسیر زندگی خود را تعیین کند.
23O LORD, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps.
24پس ای خداوند، با ملایمت مرا اصلاح کن نه با خشم و غضب، ورنه از بین می روم.خشم و غضبت را بر اقوامی فروآور که ترا نمی شناسند و نام ترا بر زبان نمی آورند. آن ها قوم اسرائیل را از بین برده سرزمین شان را ویران کرده اند.
24O LORD, correct me, but with judgment; not in thine anger, lest thou bring me to nothing.
25خشم و غضبت را بر اقوامی فروآور که ترا نمی شناسند و نام ترا بر زبان نمی آورند. آن ها قوم اسرائیل را از بین برده سرزمین شان را ویران کرده اند.
25Pour out thy fury upon the heathen that know thee not, and upon the families that call not on thy name: for they have eaten up Jacob, and devoured him, and consumed him, and have made his habitation desolate.
