¹ای خداوند، تو عادلتر از آن هستی که من با تو بحث و مجادله کنم. اما می خواهم از تو بپرسم که چرا مردم خطاکار در زندگی سعادتمند هستند؟ چرا کسانی که شریر اند، در آسایش زندگی می کنند؟

¹Righteous art thou, O LORD, when I plead with thee: yet let me talk with thee of thy judgments: Wherefore doth the way of the wicked prosper? wherefore are all they happy that deal very treacherously?

²تو آن ها را می کاری و آن ها ریشه می دوانند، نمو می کنند و ثمر می دهند. ترا با زبان خود مدح می کنند، اما دلهای شان از تو دور اند.

²Thou hast planted them, yea, they have taken root: they grow, yea, they bring forth fruit: thou art near in their mouth, and far from their reins.

³ولی ای خداوند، تو مرا می شناسی. تو مرا می بینی و از دلِ امتحان شدۀ من آگاهی. ای خداوند، تو آن ها را مانند گوسفند به کشتارگاه ببر و در آنجا تا روز کشتن شان نگاهدار.

³But thou, O LORD, knowest me: thou hast seen me, and tried mine heart toward thee: pull them out like sheep for the slaughter, and prepare them for the day of slaughter.

⁴تا چه وقت این سرزمین ماتم بگیرد و گیاهان آن خشک باشند؟ بخاطر گناهان ساکنین آن، حتی حیوانات و پرندگان تلف شده اند. می گویند: «خدا اعمال ما را نمی بیند.»

⁴How long shall the land mourn, and the herbs of every field wither, for the wickedness of them that dwell therein? the beasts are consumed, and the birds; because they said, He shall not see our last end.

⁵خداوند جواب داد: «تو که با مردم پیاده دویدی و اینچنین خسته شدی، پس چگونه می توانی با اسپان مسابقه کنی؟ اگر در یک سرزمین محفوظ و با امنیت از پا بیفتی، در جنگلهای انبوه اُردن چه خواهی کرد؟

⁵If thou hast run with the footmen, and they have wearied thee, then how canst thou contend with horses? and if in the land of peace, wherein thou trustedst, they wearied thee, then how wilt thou do in the swelling of Jordan?

⁶حتی برادران و خانواده ات به تو خیانت کرده و باهم علیه تو دسیسه چیده اند. پس اگر با تو دوستانه حرف بزنند، به آن ها اعتماد نکن.»

⁶For even thy brethren, and the house of thy father, even they have dealt treacherously with thee; yea, they have called a multitude after thee: believe them not, though they speak fair words unto thee.

⁷خداوند فرمود: «من اسرائیل را ترک نموده و قوم برگزیدۀ خود را طرد کرده ام. من عزیز خود را به دست دشمنان سپرده ام.

⁷I have forsaken mine house, I have left mine heritage; I have given the dearly beloved of my soul into the hand of her enemies.

⁸قوم برگزیدۀ من مانند شیر جنگل بر من غریده اند، بنابران، من از آن ها بیزار شده ام.

⁸Mine heritage is unto me as a lion in the forest; it crieth out against me: therefore have I hated it.

⁹قوم برگزیدۀ من مثل پرندۀ رنگارنگی است که مرغان شکاری از هر طرف او را مورد حمله قرار می دهد. بروید حیوانات درنده را جمع کرده بیاورید تا بخورند.

⁹Mine heritage is unto me as a speckled bird, the birds round about are against her; come ye, assemble all the beasts of the field, come to devour.

¹⁰حاکمان بسیاری تاکستانهای مرا خراب کرده، مزارع مرغوب مرا پایمال نموده اند و سرزمین قشنگ مرا به بیابان خشک تبدیل کرده اند.

¹⁰Many pastors have destroyed my vineyard, they have trodden my portion under foot, they have made my pleasant portion a desolate wilderness.

¹¹همه را چنان ویران ساخته اند که صدای ناله و ماتمش به گوش من رسیده است. تمام آن سرزمین خراب شده و هیچ کسی به آن توجه نمی کند.

¹¹They have made it desolate, and being desolate it mourneth unto me; the whole land is made desolate, because no man layeth it to heart.

¹²مهاجمین همه جا را غارت می کنند، زیرا جنگ و شمشیر را فرستادم تا سرتاسر آن سرزمین را از بین برده و هیچ کسی در امان نباشد.

¹²The spoilers are come upon all high places through the wilderness: for the sword of the LORD shall devour from the one end of the land even to the other end of the land: no flesh shall have peace.

¹³قوم برگزیدۀ من گندم کاشتند، اما خار را درو کردند. زحمت زیاد کشیده اند، ولی فایده ای ندیده اند. بخاطر خشم شدید من محصول شان تباه شد و از این جهت شرمنده هستند.»

¹³They have sown wheat, but shall reap thorns: they have put themselves to pain, but shall not profit: and they shall be ashamed of your revenues because of the fierce anger of the LORD.

¹⁴خداوند در مورد همسایگان شریر قوم برگزیدۀ خود می فرماید: «آن ها سرزمینی را که من به قوم اسرائیل بعنوان میراث بخشیده بودم، غارت کرده اند، بنابران، طوریکه مردم یهودا را از سرزمین شان راندم آن ها را هم از کشور شان می رانم،

¹⁴Thus saith the LORD against all mine evil neighbours, that touch the inheritance which I have caused my people Israel to inherit; Behold, I will pluck them out of their land, and pluck out the house of Judah from among them.

¹⁵ولی بعد از آنکه آن ها را تبعید کردم، دوباره بر آن ها رحم کرده هر یک را به کشور شان بر می گردانم.

¹⁵And it shall come to pass, after that I have plucked them out I will return, and have compassion on them, and will bring them again, every man to his heritage, and every man to his land.

¹⁶سپس اگر آن ها جداً راه و رسم مرا بیاموزند (طوریکه قبلاً به قوم برگزیدۀ من رسم و روش بعل را یاد داده بودند) و تنها بنام من قسم بخورند، آنوقت من آن ها را جزو قوم برگزیدۀ خود می سازم.اما اگر قومی به سخنان من گوش ندهد، پس آن قوم را بکلی ریشه کن ساخته از بین می برم.» این کلام خداوند است.

¹⁶And it shall come to pass, if they will diligently learn the ways of my people, to swear by my name, The LORD liveth; as they taught my people to swear by Baal; then shall they be built in the midst of my people.

¹⁷اما اگر قومی به سخنان من گوش ندهد، پس آن قوم را بکلی ریشه کن ساخته از بین می برم.» این کلام خداوند است.

¹⁷But if they will not obey, I will utterly pluck up and destroy that nation, saith the LORD.
