¹خداوند قادر مطلق، خدای اسرائیل در مورد یهودیانی که در مصر، یعنی در شهرهای مِجدَل، تَحفَنحیس، ممفیس و در قسمت جنوبی آن کشور زندگی می کردند، به ارمیا فرمود:

¹The word that came to Jeremiah concerning all the Jews which dwell in the land of Egypt, which dwell at Migdol, and at Tahpanhes, and at Noph, and in the country of Pathros, saying,

²«شما خود تان بچشم سر دیدید که چه بلایی را بر سر اورشلیم و تمام شهرهای یهودا آوردم که هنوز هم ویران و غیر مسکون هستند،

²Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Ye have seen all the evil that I have brought upon Jerusalem, and upon all the cities of Judah; and, behold, this day they are a desolation, and no man dwelleth therein,

³زیرا آن ها مرتکب کارهای زشت شدند و خدایانی را می پرستیدند که نه خود شان می شناختند و نه اجداد شان، و برای آن ها قربانی تقدیم می کردند، بنابران، آتش خشم مرا به هیجان آوردند.

³Because of their wickedness which they have committed to provoke me to anger, in that they went to burn incense, and to serve other gods, whom they knew not, neither they, ye, nor your fathers.

⁴با اینکه همیشه بندگان خود، انبیاء را فرستادم و از آن ها خواهش کردند که از کارهای شرم آور و نفرت انگیز خود دست بکشند،

⁴Howbeit I sent unto you all my servants the prophets, rising early and sending them, saying, Oh, do not this abominable thing that I hate.

⁵اما آن ها به سخنان شان گوش ندادند و توجهی نکردند. از راه بدی که در پیش گرفته بودند برنگشتند و به پرستش خدایان دیگر ادامه دادند.

⁵But they hearkened not, nor inclined their ear to turn from their wickedness, to burn no incense unto other gods.

⁶از همین جهت، آتش خشم من برافروخته شد و بر شهرهای یهودا و جاده های اورشلیم ریخت و طوری که امروز می بینید، همه جا را ویران کرد.»

⁶Wherefore my fury and mine anger was poured forth, and was kindled in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem; and they are wasted and desolate, as at this day.

⁷خداوند قادر مطلق، خدای اسرائیل می فرماید: «چرا به خود ضرر می رسانید؟ چرا مرد و زن و کودکان و اطفال شیرخوار بازماندگان یهودا را از بین می برید و نمی گذارید که کسی از شما باقی بماند؟

⁷Therefore now thus saith the LORD, the God of hosts, the God of Israel; Wherefore commit ye this great evil against your souls, to cut off from you man and woman, child and suckling, out of Judah, to leave you none to remain;

⁸شما در سرزمین مصر برای خدایان دیگر قربانی می کنید. با این کار زشت تان مرا خشمگین می سازید و وادار می کنید که شما را از بین ببرم و پیش مردم جهان مسخره و رسوا سازم.

⁸In that ye provoke me unto wrath with the works of your hands, burning incense unto other gods in the land of Egypt, whither ye be gone to dwell, that ye might cut yourselves off, and that ye might be a curse and a reproach among all the nations of the earth?

⁹آیا جنایات اجداد تان را فراموش کرده اید؟ آیا گناهانی را که پادشاهان، زنهای شان و خود تان در سرزمین یهودا و جاده های اورشلیم مرتکب شده اید بیاد ندارید؟

⁹Have ye forgotten the wickedness of your fathers, and the wickedness of the kings of Judah, and the wickedness of their wives, and your own wickedness, and the wickedness of your wives, which they have committed in the land of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem?

¹⁰شما هیچگاهی از کارهای بد تان پشیمان نبوده و از من نترسیده اید و از شریعت و احکامی که به پدران تان دادم پیروی نکرده اید.

¹⁰They are not humbled even unto this day, neither have they feared, nor walked in my law, nor in my statutes, that I set before you and before your fathers.

¹¹بنابران، خداوند قادر مطلق، خدای اسرائیل، می فرماید: من در خشم خود ضد شما قرار گرفته ام تا تمامی قوم یهودا را نابود کنم.

¹¹Therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will set my face against you for evil, and to cut off all Judah.

¹²بازماندگان یهودا را که می خواهند به مصر بروند و در آنجا بمانند، هلاک می سازم هر یک از آن ها، از خورد تا بزرگ، با شمشیر و در اثر قحطی می میرد مورد لعنت و نفرت مردم قرار می گیرند و همگی از دیدن وضع بد آن ها دچار وحشت می شوند.

¹²And I will take the remnant of Judah, that have set their faces to go into the land of Egypt to sojourn there, and they shall all be consumed, and fall in the land of Egypt; they shall even be consumed by the sword and by the famine: they shall die, from the least even unto the greatest, by the sword and by the famine: and they shall be an execration, and an astonishment, and a curse, and a reproach.

¹³همانطوری که اهالی اورشلیم را با شمشیر و قحطی و مرض از بین بردم، یهودیانی را که در سرزمین مصر زندگی می کنند هم به جزا می رسانم.

¹³For I will punish them that dwell in the land of Egypt, as I have punished Jerusalem, by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence:

¹⁴از آن ها هیچ کسی باقی نمی ماند که بگریزد و یا به سرزمین یهودا باز گردد. بغیر از چند نفر فراری، هیچیک نمی تواند به یهودا که اینقدر آرزومندش هستند، باز گردد.»

¹⁴So that none of the remnant of Judah, which are gone into the land of Egypt to sojourn there, shall escape or remain, that they should return into the land of Judah, to the which they have a desire to return to dwell there: for none shall return but such as shall escape.

¹⁵آنگاه تمام مردانی که می دانستند زنهای شان برای خدایان دیگر هدیه تقدیم می کنند، زنهای دیگر که در آنجا حاضر بودند و گروه بزرگ مردمی که در فتروس، واقع در مصر، زندگی می کردند به ارمیا گفتند:

¹⁵Then all the men which knew that their wives had burned incense unto other gods, and all the women that stood by, a great multitude, even all the people that dwelt in the land of Egypt, in Pathros, answered Jeremiah, saying,

¹⁶«ما به سخنانی که تو می گوئی از جانب خداوند است، گوش نمی دهیم،

¹⁶As for the word that thou hast spoken unto us in the name of the LORD, we will not hearken unto thee.

¹⁷بلکه هر چه که دل ما بخواهد می کنیم. همانطوری که خود ما، اجداد ما، پادشاهان و بزرگان ما در سرزمین یهودا و جاده های اورشلیم مراسم قربانی را انجام می دادیم، ما برای ملکۀ آسمان هدیه می بریم و نوشیدنی و خوشبوئی می ریزیم. زیرا در آن وقت ما همه خوراک فراوان داشتیم، از تمام چیزهای خوب برخوردار بودیم و غم و مصیبت را نمی دیدیم.

¹⁷But we will certainly do whatsoever thing goeth forth out of our own mouth, to burn incense unto the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto her, as we have done, we, and our fathers, our kings, and our princes, in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem: for then had we plenty of victuals, and were well, and saw no evil.

¹⁸اما از روزی که از ریختن خوشبوئی و نوشیدنی برای ملکۀ آسمان دست کشیدیم، همه چیز را از دست دادیم و با شمشیر و قحطی هلاک می شویم.»

¹⁸But since we left off to burn incense to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto her, we have wanted all things, and have been consumed by the sword and by the famine.

¹⁹زنها هم گفتند: «آیا فکر می کنی که ما بدون اطلاع شوهران خود برای ملکۀ آسمان هدیه های ریختنی و نوشیدنی تقدیم می کردیم و کلچه های شیرین به شکل خودش می پُختیم؟»

¹⁹And when we burned incense to the queen of heaven, and poured out drink offerings unto her, did we make her cakes to worship her, and pour out drink offerings unto her, without our men?

²⁰آنگاه ارمیا به مردان و زنانی که این جواب را به او دادند، گفت:

²⁰Then Jeremiah said unto all the people, to the men, and to the women, and to all the people which had given him that answer, saying,

²¹«شما و پدران تان، پادشاهان و بزرگان تان و مردم سرزمین تان که در شهرهای یهودا و جاده های اورشلیم قربانی تقدیم می کردید، آیا خیال می کنید که خداوند نمی دانست و از کارهای شما خبر نداشت؟

²¹The incense that ye burned in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem, ye, and your fathers, your kings, and your princes, and the people of the land, did not the LORD remember them, and came it not into his mind?

²²او دیگر نمی توانست اعمال زشت و قبیح شما را تحمل کند، بنابران، چنانچه می بینید، سرزمین تان را ویران کرد و تا به امروز غیر مسکون باقی مانده است.

²²So that the LORD could no longer bear, because of the evil of your doings, and because of the abominations which ye have committed; therefore is your land a desolation, and an astonishment, and a curse, without an inhabitant, as at this day.

²³بخاطر اینکه شما برای خدایان دیگر هدیه تقدیم می کردید، در برابر خداوند گناه ورزیدید، از امر او اطاعت ننمودید و مطابق قوانین او رفتار نکردید، این بلاها را که می بینید، بر سر شما آورده است.»

²³Because ye have burned incense, and because ye have sinned against the LORD, and have not obeyed the voice of the LORD, nor walked in his law, nor in his statutes, nor in his testimonies; therefore this evil is happened unto you, as at this day.

²⁴ارمیا به سخنان خود ادامه داده به تمام مردان و زنان گفت که به کلام خداوند قادر مطلق، خدای اسرائیل گوش بدهند که می فرماید: «ای یهودیانی که در سرزمین مصر بسر می برید، شما و زنهای تان تصمیم گرفته اید که همیشه ملکۀ آسمان را بپرستید و برایش هدیه تقدیم کنید و شما به هر چیزی که گفتید جامۀ عمل پوشاندید. بسیار خوب، بروید و نذر تان را ادا کنید!

²⁴Moreover Jeremiah said unto all the people, and to all the women, Hear the word of the LORD, all Judah that are in the land of Egypt:

²⁵اما ای یهودیانی که در سرزمین مصر زندگی می کنید، به سخنان من گوش بدهید. بنام باعظمت خود قسم می خورم که بعد از این اجازه نمی دهم کسی با به کار بردن اسم من دعا کند یا بگوید: «به حیات خداوند متعال قسم است.»

²⁵Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, saying; Ye and your wives have both spoken with your mouths, and fulfilled with your hand, saying, We will surely perform our vows that we have vowed, to burn incense to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto her: ye will surely accomplish your vows, and surely perform your vows.

²⁶من همیشه مراقب شما می باشم نه به این خاطر که به شما خوبی کنم، بلکه می خواهم بلائی را بر سر تان نازل و همۀ شما را که در سرزمین مصر ساکن هستید با شمشیر و قحطی نابود سازم و احدی را زنده نگذارم.

²⁶Therefore hear ye the word of the LORD, all Judah that dwell in the land of Egypt; Behold, I have sworn by my great name, saith the LORD, that my name shall no more be named in the mouth of any man of Judah in all the land of Egypt, saying, The Lord GOD liveth.

²⁷آنگاه برای آن عدۀ کمی که از این بلاها جان سالم بدر می برند و از مصر به سرزمین یهودا عودت می کنند، معلوم می شود که حرف چه کسی راست است، از من یا از آن ها!

²⁷Behold, I will watch over them for evil, and not for good: and all the men of Judah that are in the land of Egypt shall be consumed by the sword and by the famine, until there be an end of them.

²⁸برای اینکه شما بدانید که من خداوند، شما را در همین جا مجازات می کنم این علامت را می دهم:همان طوری که صدقیا، پادشاه یهودا را به دست نبوکدنصر، پادشاه بابل سپردم، حُفرَع، پادشاه مصر را هم به دست دشمنانش که تشنۀ خونش هستند، تسلیم می کنم.»

²⁸Yet a small number that escape the sword shall return out of the land of Egypt into the land of Judah, and all the remnant of Judah, that are gone into the land of Egypt to sojourn there, shall know whose words shall stand, mine, or their's.

²⁹همان طوری که صدقیا، پادشاه یهودا را به دست نبوکدنصر، پادشاه بابل سپردم، حُفرَع، پادشاه مصر را هم به دست دشمنانش که تشنۀ خونش هستند، تسلیم می کنم.»

²⁹And this shall be a sign unto you, saith the LORD, that I will punish you in this place, that ye may know that my words shall surely stand against you for evil:

³⁰Thus saith the LORD; Behold, I will give Pharaohhophra king of Egypt into the hand of his enemies, and into the hand of them that seek his life; as I gave Zedekiah king of Judah into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, his enemy, and that sought his life.
