¹یکروز شَمشون به غزه رفت. در آنجا شب را با یک زن فاحشه بسر بُرد.

¹Then went Samson to Gaza, and saw there an harlot, and went in unto her.

²مردم شنیدند که شَمشون به آنجا آمده است، پس آن خانه را محاصره کردند و نزد دروازۀ شهر کمین گرفتند. آن ها تمام شب خاموش و بی صدا منتظر او مانده، گفتند: «چون صبح هوا روشن شود او را خواهیم کشت.»

²And it was told the Gazites, saying, Samson is come hither. And they compassed him in, and laid wait for him all night in the gate of the city, and were quiet all the night, saying, In the morning, when it is day, we shall kill him.

³شَمشون تا نیمۀ شب در آنجا پائید و بعد نیمۀ شب برخاست و دروازۀ شهر را با دو پایۀ آن یکجا از زمین کَند و بر شانه انداخته بالای تپه ای که روبروی حِبرون است، بُرد.

³And Samson lay till midnight, and arose at midnight, and took the doors of the gate of the city, and the two posts, and went away with them, bar and all, and put them upon his shoulders, and carried them up to the top of an hill that is before Hebron.

⁴شَمشون عاشق یک دختر شد که نامش دلیله بود و در وادی سورَق زندگی می کرد.

⁴And it came to pass afterward, that he loved a woman in the valley of Sorek, whose name was Delilah.

⁵سرکردگان فلسطینی پیش آن دختر آمدند و گفتند: «معلوم کن و بپرس که آن قوّت فوق العادۀ شَمشون در چه چیز است و به چه ترتیب می توانیم او را مغلوب کرده ببندیم و مُطیع خود سازیم. آن وقت هر کدام ما یکهزار و یکصد مثقال نقره به تو می دهیم.»

⁵And the lords of the Philistines came up unto her, and said unto her, Entice him, and see wherein his great strength lieth, and by what means we may prevail against him, that we may bind him to afflict him; and we will give thee every one of us eleven hundred pieces of silver.

⁶پس دلیله پیش شَمشون آمد و گفت: «لطفاً به من بگو که این قوّت عظیم تو در چه چیز است و چطور کسی می تواند ترا مغلوب کند و ببندد؟»

⁶And Delilah said to Samson, Tell me, I pray thee, wherein thy great strength lieth, and wherewith thou mightest be bound to afflict thee.

⁷شَمشون جواب داد: «اگر مرا با هفت ریسمان تازه و تَر که خشک نباشد بسته کنند، من ضعیف و مثل اشخاص عادی می شوم.»

⁷And Samson said unto her, If they bind me with seven green withes that were never dried, then shall I be weak, and be as another man.

⁸سرکردگان فلسطینی هفت ریسمان تر و تازه را که خشک نشده بودند آوردند و دلیله دست و پای شَمشون را با آن ها بست.

⁸Then the lords of the Philistines brought up to her seven green withes which had not been dried, and she bound him with them.

⁹چند نفر از آن ها در یک اطاق دیگر پنهان شده بودند. دلیله به شَمشون گفت: «فلسطینی ها برای دستگیری ات آمده اند.» اما شَمشون ریسمانها را مثلیکه آتش گرفته باشند، پاره کرد. بنابران کسی نتوانست به راز قوّت او پَی ببرد.

⁹Now there were men lying in wait, abiding with her in the chamber. And she said unto him, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson. And he brake the withes, as a thread of tow is broken when it toucheth the fire. So his strength was not known.

¹⁰بعد دلیله به او گفت: «تو مرا مسخره کردی و به من دروغ گفتی. حالا لطفاً به من بگو که ترا چطور می توان بست؟»

¹⁰And Delilah said unto Samson, Behold, thou hast mocked me, and told me lies: now tell me, I pray thee, wherewith thou mightest be bound.

¹¹شَمشون گفت: «اگر مرا با ریسمانی که استعمال نشده باشد، ببندند، من ضعیف و مثل مردان دیگر می شوم.»

¹¹And he said unto her, If they bind me fast with new ropes that never were occupied, then shall I be weak, and be as another man.

¹²پس دلیله او را با ریسمانهای نَو بست. فلسطینی ها مثل دفعۀ پیشتر در یک اطاق دیگر پنهان شده بودند. دلیله گفت: «ای شَمشون، فلسطینی ها آمده اند تا گرفتارت کنند.» اما شَمشون باز ریسمانها را مثل نخ از بازوان خود پاره کرد.

¹²Delilah therefore took new ropes, and bound him therewith, and said unto him, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson. And there were liers in wait abiding in the chamber. And he brake them from off his arms like a thread.

¹³دلیله باز از او شکایت کرده گفت: «تو بار دیگر به من دروغ گفتی. حالا براستی بگو که تو را چسان می توان بست؟» شَمشون جواب داد: «اگر هفت حلقۀ موی سر مرا با تار یکجا ببافند و با میخ کارگاه نساجی محکم ببندند، آنوقت من ضعیف و مثل مردان عادی می شوم.»

¹³And Delilah said unto Samson, Hitherto thou hast mocked me, and told me lies: tell me wherewith thou mightest be bound. And he said unto her, If thou weavest the seven locks of my head with the web.

¹⁴پس وقتیکه شَمشون خواب بود، دلیله هفت حلقۀ موی او را با تار یکجا بافت و با یک میخ محکم بست و به او گفت: «ای شَمشون، فلسطینی ها برای دستگیری ات آمده اند.» شَمشون بیدار شده، هم میخ کارگاه نساجی و هم تار را از موی خود باز کرد.

¹⁴And she fastened it with the pin, and said unto him, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson. And he awaked out of his sleep, and went away with the pin of the beam, and with the web.

¹⁵دلیله به او گفت: «چرا می گوئی که مرا دوست داری، در حالیکه به من راست نمی گوئی؟ تو سه بار مرا مسخره کردی و نگفتی که قوت عظیم تو در چه چیز است.»

¹⁵And she said unto him, How canst thou say, I love thee, when thine heart is not with me? thou hast mocked me these three times, and hast not told me wherein thy great strength lieth.

¹⁶چون دلیله هر روز بر او فشار می آورد و نزد او زاری می کرد، بنابران، شَمشون بتنگ آمد

¹⁶And it came to pass, when she pressed him daily with her words, and urged him, so that his soul was vexed unto death;

¹⁷و راز خود را برای او بیان کرده گفت: «تا حال هیچ تیغ دلاکی بسرم نخورده است. از همان وقتیکه در شکم مادر بودم به عنوان نذری به خداوند تقدیم شدم. اگر موی سرم را بتراشند قوّت خود را دست داده، ضعیف و مثل مردان دیگر می شوم.»

¹⁷That he told her all his heart, and said unto her, There hath not come a razor upon mine head; for I have been a Nazarite unto God from my mother's womb: if I be shaven, then my strength will go from me, and I shall become weak, and be like any other man.

¹⁸وقتی دلیله از راز او آگاه شد، به سرکردگان فلسطینی خبر داده گفت: «فوراً اینجا بیائید، زیرا شَمشون راز خود را برای من بیان کرد.» پس آن ها با پولی که وعده داده بودند، پیش دلیله آمدند.

¹⁸And when Delilah saw that he had told her all his heart, she sent and called for the lords of the Philistines, saying, Come up this once, for he hath showed me all his heart. Then the lords of the Philistines came up unto her, and brought money in their hand.

¹⁹دلیله سر او را بالای زانوی خود نهاده خوابش داد و فلسطینی ها را صدا کرد که بیایند و آن ها هفت حلقۀ موی سر او را تراشیدند. آنگاه دلیله به زدن او شروع کرد و دید که براستی او قدرت خود را از دست داده است.

¹⁹And she made him sleep upon her knees; and she called for a man, and she caused him to shave off the seven locks of his head; and she began to afflict him, and his strength went from him.

²⁰و به او گفت: «ای شَمشون، فلسطینی ها برای دستگیری ات آمده اند!» شَمشون از خواب بیدار شد و گفت: «مثل پیشتر با یک تکان خود را آزاد می سازم.» اما او خبر نداشت که خداوند او را ترک کرده بود.

²⁰And she said, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson. And he awoke out of his sleep, and said, I will go out as at other times before, and shake myself. And he wist not that the LORD was departed from him.

²¹فلسطینی ها او را دستگیر کردند. چشمانش را از کاسۀ سر کشیدند و او را به غزه بردند. در آنجا او را به زنجیرهای برنجی بستند و در زندان بالای او دستاس می کردند.

²¹But the Philistines took him, and put out his eyes, and brought him down to Gaza, and bound him with fetters of brass; and he did grind in the prison house.

²²اما موی سرش بعد از مدتی دوباره رسید.

²²Howbeit the hair of his head began to grow again after he was shaven.

²³سرکردگان فلسطینی در یک مراسم قربانی برای بت خود، داجون جمع شدند. خوشی و شکرگزاری کرده می گفتند: «خدای ما، دشمن ما یعنی شَمشون را به دست ما تسلیم کرد.»

²³Then the lords of the Philistines gathered them together for to offer a great sacrifice unto Dagon their god, and to rejoice: for they said, Our god hath delivered Samson our enemy into our hand.

²⁴وقتیکه مردم شَمشون را دیدند خدای خود را سپاس گفتند، زیرا دشمن شانرا که سرزمین آن ها را ویران کرده و مردم شانرا کُشته بود به دست شان تسلیم نمود.

²⁴And when the people saw him, they praised their god: for they said, Our god hath delivered into our hands our enemy, and the destroyer of our country, which slew many of us.

²⁵و چون سرخوش و مست شدند گفتند که شَمشون را بیاورید تا ما را سرگرم کند. پس شَمشون را از زندان آوردند و او برای شان نمایش اجراء کرد. آن ها او را بین دو ستون قرار دادند.

²⁵And it came to pass, when their hearts were merry, that they said, Call for Samson, that he may make us sport. And they called for Samson out of the prison house; and he made them sport: and they set him between the pillars.

²⁶شَمشون به پسر جوانی که دست او را گرفته بود گفت: «بگذار تا ستونهائی را که لنگر خانه را بر خود دارند لمس کرده به آن ها تکیه کنم.»

²⁶And Samson said unto the lad that held him by the hand, Suffer me that I may feel the pillars whereupon the house standeth, that I may lean upon them.

²⁷آن خانه پُر از مرد و زن بود. و تمام سرکردگان فلسطینی در آنجا بودند. و در بالای آن خانه هم در حدود سه هزار نفر مرد و زن جمع شده بودند و نمایش شَمشون را تماشا می کردند.

²⁷Now the house was full of men and women; and all the lords of the Philistines were there; and there were upon the roof about three thousand men and women, that beheld while Samson made sport.

²⁸شَمشون نزد خداوند دعا کرده، گفت: «ای خداوند، خدای من! التماس می کنم مرا به یاد آور و فقط یکبار دیگر به من قوّت بده، تا انتقام چشمانم را از این فلسطینی ها بگیرم.»

²⁸And Samson called unto the LORD, and said, O Lord God, remember me, I pray thee, and strengthen me, I pray thee, only this once, O God, that I may be at once avenged of the Philistines for my two eyes.

²⁹آنگاه شَمشون بر دو ستون وسطی که وزن تمام خانه بر آن ها قرار داشت، با دو دست خود فشار آورد

²⁹And Samson took hold of the two middle pillars upon which the house stood, and on which it was borne up, of the one with his right hand, and of the other with his left.

³⁰و گفت: «بگذار با فلسطینی ها بمیرم.» بعد با تمام قدرت دو ستون را از جا کَند و سقف خانه بر سر سرکردگان فلسطینی و همه کسانی که در آنجا بودند، افتاد. به این ترتیب، تعداد کسانی را که شَمشون در وقت مُردن خود کشت، زیادتر از تعداد کسانی بود که در دوران زندگی خود بقتل رسانده بود.بعد برادران و خانواده اش آمدند و جنازۀ او را برداشته در آرامگاه پدرش، مانوح که بین زُرعه و اَشتاوُل واقع بود، دفن کردند. شَمشون مدت بیست سال بر اسرائیل داوری کرد.

³⁰And Samson said, Let me die with the Philistines. And he bowed himself with all his might; and the house fell upon the lords, and upon all the people that were therein. So the dead which he slew at his death were more than they which he slew in his life.

³¹بعد برادران و خانواده اش آمدند و جنازۀ او را برداشته در آرامگاه پدرش، مانوح که بین زُرعه و اَشتاوُل واقع بود، دفن کردند. شَمشون مدت بیست سال بر اسرائیل داوری کرد.

³¹Then his brethren and all the house of his father came down, and took him, and brought him up, and buried him between Zorah and Eshtaol in the buryingplace of Manoah his father. And he judged Israel twenty years.
