¹روزی عیسی در محلی به دعا مشغول بود. وقتی از دعا فارغ شد یکی از شاگردان به او گفت: «خداوندا، همانطور که یحیی به شاگردان خود یاد داده است، تو هم دعاکردن را به ما یاد بده.»

¹And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.

²عیسی به ایشان فرمود: «هر وقت دعا می کنید بگویید: ای پدر، نام تو مقدس باد، پادشاهی تو بیاید.

²And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth.

³نان روزانۀ ما را هر روز به ما بده

³Give us day by day our daily bread.

⁴و گناهان ما را ببخش، زیرا ما نیز همه کسانی را که به ما بدی کرده اند می بخشیم و ما را از وسوسه ها دور نگهدار.»

⁴And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil.

⁵سپس به ایشان گفت: «فرض کنید که یکی از شما دوستی داشته باشد و نیمه شب پیش آن دوست برود و بگوید: «ای دوست، سه دانه نان به من قرض بده.

⁵And he said unto them, Which of you shall have a friend, and shall go unto him at midnight, and say unto him, Friend, lend me three loaves;

⁶یکی از دوستانم که در سفر بود به خانۀ من داخل شده است و چیزی ندارم پیش او بگذارم.»

⁶For a friend of mine in his journey is come to me, and I have nothing to set before him?

⁷و او از داخل جواب بدهد: «مزاحم من نشو! حالا در قفل شده است و من و اولادم به رختخواب رفته ایم و نمی توانم برخیزم تا چیزی به تو بدهم.»

⁷And he from within shall answer and say, Trouble me not: the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot rise and give thee.

⁸بدانید که حتی اگر از روی رفاقت برای او حاضر نکند، همان اصرار، او را وادار خواهد کرد که برخیزد و هرچه را دوستش احتیاج دارد به او بدهد.

⁸I say unto you, Though he will not rise and give him, because he is his friend, yet because of his importunity he will rise and give him as many as he needeth.

⁹پس به شما می گویم تقاضا کنید که به شما داده خواهد شد، بجوئید که پیدا خواهید کرد، بکوبید که در به روی شما باز خواهد شد.

⁹And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.

¹⁰چون هرکه بخواهد به دست می آورد و هرکه بجوید پیدا می کند و هرکه بکوبد در برویش باز می شود.

¹⁰For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.

¹¹آیا در میان شما پدری هست که وقتی که پسرش از او ماهی بخواهد به عوض ماهی، ماری در دستش بگذارد.

¹¹If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent?

¹²یا وقتی تخم مرغ بخواهد گژدمی به او بدهد؟

¹²Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion?

¹³پس اگر شما با اینکه خود خطا کار هستید می دانید چگونه چیزهای خوب را به فرزندان تان بدهید، چقدر بیشتر پدر آسمانی، روح القدس را به آنانی که از او تقاضا می کنند عطا خواهد فرمود!»

¹³If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?

¹⁴عیسی یک روح گنگ را از شخصی بیرون می کرد و وقتی روح ناپاک بیرون آمد مرد گنگ شروع به حرف زدن کرد و مردم حیرت کردند.

¹⁴And he was casting out a devil, and it was dumb. And it came to pass, when the devil was gone out, the dumb spake; and the people wondered.

¹⁵اما بعضی ها گفتند: «او بوسیلۀ بَعلزِبول، رئیس شیاطین، ارواح ناپاک را بیرون می راند.»

¹⁵But some of them said, He casteth out devils through Beelzebub the chief of the devils.

¹⁶دیگران از راه امتحان از او تقاضای معجزه آسمانی کردند.

¹⁶And others, tempting him, sought of him a sign from heaven.

¹⁷اما او افکار آنها را درک کرد و فرمود: «هر سلطنتی که بر ضد خودش تقسیم شود رو به خرابی می گذارد و خانواده ای که دو دستگی در آن باشد سقوط خواهد کرد.

¹⁷But he, knowing their thoughts, said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and a house divided against a house falleth.

¹⁸همچنین اگر شیطان برضد خود تفرقه بیندازد سلطنتش چطور برقرار خواهد ماند؟ بهر صورت شما ادعا دارید که من بوسیله بَعلزِبول ارواح ناپاک را بیرون می رانم.

¹⁸If Satan also be divided against himself, how shall his kingdom stand? because ye say that I cast out devils through Beelzebub.

¹⁹اگر من بوسیلۀ بَعلزِبول ارواح ناپاک را بیرون می رانم یاران خود شما به چه وسیله آن ها را بیرون می رانند؟ آنها ادعای شما را رد خواهند کرد.

¹⁹And if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your sons cast them out? therefore shall they be your judges.

²⁰اما اگر با قدرت خداست که من ارواح ناپاک را بیرون می رانم، بیقین بدانید که پادشاهی خدا به شما رسیده است.

²⁰But if I with the finger of God cast out devils, no doubt the kingdom of God is come upon you.

²¹وقتی مرد زورمندی که کاملاً مسلح است از قلعۀ خود نگهبانی می کند دارایی او در امان است.

²¹When a strong man armed keepeth his palace, his goods are in peace:

²²اما وقتی کسی زورمندتر از او به او حمله کند او را از پای در می آورد و تیرها و زرهی را که تکیه گاه او هستند می برد و دارائیش را تاراج می کند.

²²But when a stronger than he shall come upon him, and overcome him, he taketh from him all his armour wherein he trusted, and divideth his spoils.

²³هرکه با من نباشد بر ضد من است و هرکه با من جمع نکند پراگنده می سازد.

²³He that is not with me is against me: and he that gathereth not with me scattereth.

²⁴وقتی روح ناپاکی از کسی بیرون می آید در جستجوی استراحتگاهی در بیابانهای بی آب و علف سرگردان می شود. وقتی جایی را پیدا نمی کند می گوید: «به منزلی که از آن بیرون آمدم باز می گردم.»

²⁴When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest; and finding none, he saith, I will return unto my house whence I came out.

²⁵پس بر می گردد و آن خانه را جارو شده و منظم و مرتب می بیند.

²⁵And when he cometh, he findeth it swept and garnished.

²⁶او می رود و هفت روح بدتر از خود را جمع می کند و آن ها همه وارد می شوند و جای می گیرند و در آخر، حال و روز آن مرد از گذشته اش بدتر می شود.»

²⁶Then goeth he, and taketh to him seven other spirits more wicked than himself; and they enter in, and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first.

²⁷در حالی که عیسی صحبت می کرد، زنی از میان جمعیت با صدایی بلند گفت: «خوشا بحال آن مادری که تو را زایید و به تو شیر داد.»

²⁷And it came to pass, as he spake these things, a certain woman of the company lifted up her voice, and said unto him, Blessed is the womb that bare thee, and the paps which thou hast sucked.

²⁸اما او فرمود: «خوشا بحال آن کسانی که کلام خدا را بشنوند و آن را بجا بیاورند.»

²⁸But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it.

²⁹وقتی مردم در اطراف عیسی ازدحام کردند او به صحبت خود چنین ادامه داد: «مردمان این زمانه چقدر شریرند! آن ها معجزه می خواهند، اما تنها معجزه ای که به ایشان داده خواهد شد معجزۀ یونس نبی است،

²⁹And when the people were gathered thick together, he began to say, This is an evil generation: they seek a sign; and there shall no sign be given it, but the sign of Jonas the prophet.

³⁰چون همانطور که یونس برای مردم نینوا نشانه ای بود، پسر انسان نیز برای مردم این زمان نشانۀ دیگری خواهد بود.

³⁰For as Jonas was a sign unto the Ninevites, so shall also the Son of man be to this generation.

³¹در روز داوری، ملکه جنوب با مردم این روزگار زنده خواهد شد و آنها را متهم خواهد ساخت، چون او از آن سر دنیا آمد تا حکمت سلیمان را بشنود، و شما بدانید آنکه در اینجاست از سلیمان بزرگتر است.

³¹The queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with the men of this generation, and condemn them: for she came from the utmost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and, behold, a greater than Solomon is here.

³²مردم نینوا در روز داوری با مردم این روزگار زنده خواهند شد و برضد آنها شهادت خواهند داد چون مردم نینوا در اثر پیام یونس توبه کردند و آنکه در اینجاست از یونس بزرگتر است.

³²The men of Nineve shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: for they repented at the preaching of Jonas; and, behold, a greater than Jonas is here.

³³هیچکس چراغ را روشن نمی کند که آن را پنهان کند یا زیر تشت بگذارد، بلکه آن را روی چراغدان قرار می دهد تا کسانی که وارد اطاق می شوند نور را ببینید.

³³No man, when he hath lighted a candle, putteth it in a secret place, neither under a bushel, but on a candlestick, that they which come in may see the light.

³⁴چراغ بدن تو چشم توست. وقتی چشمانت سالم هستند تمام وجود تو روشن است اما وقتی چشمهایت معیوب باشند تو در تاریکی هستی.

³⁴The light of the body is the eye: therefore when thine eye is single, thy whole body also is full of light; but when thine eye is evil, thy body also is full of darkness.

³⁵پس چشمان خود را باز کن مبادا نوری که داری تاریکی باشد.

³⁵Take heed therefore that the light which is in thee be not darkness.

³⁶اگر تمام وجود تو روشن باشد و هیچ قسمت آن در تاریکی نباشد وجود تو چنان نورانی خواهد بود که گویی چراغی نور خود را بر تو می درخشاند.»

³⁶If thy whole body therefore be full of light, having no part dark, the whole shall be full of light, as when the bright shining of a candle doth give thee light.

³⁷وقتی عیسی به صحبت خود خاتمه داد، یکی از پیروان فرقۀ فریسی، او را به صرف غذا دعوت کرد. او وارد شد و نشست.

³⁷And as he spake, a certain Pharisee besought him to dine with him: and he went in, and sat down to meat.

³⁸فریسی با تعجب ملاحظه کرد، که عیسی پیش از غذا دستهای خود را نشست.

³⁸And when the Pharisee saw it, he marvelled that he had not first washed before dinner.

³⁹اما عیسی خداوند به او گفت: «ای فریسی ها، شما بیرون پیاله و بشقاب را می شویید در صورتی که در درون خود چیزی جز حرص و شرارت ندارید.

³⁹And the Lord said unto him, Now do ye Pharisees make clean the outside of the cup and the platter; but your inward part is full of ravening and wickedness.

⁴⁰ای احمق ها، آیا آن کسی که بیرون را ساخت درون را هم نساخت؟

⁴⁰Ye fools, did not he that made that which is without make that which is within also?

⁴¹از آنچه درون ظرفها دارید، خیرات کنید که همه اش برای شما پاک خواهد شد.

⁴¹But rather give alms of such things as ye have; and, behold, all things are clean unto you.

⁴²وای بحال شما ای پیروان فرقۀ فریسی، شما از نعناع و پودینه و انواع ادویه ده یک می دهید، اما از اجرای عدالت و محبت به خدا غافل هستید. اینها چیزهایی است که شما باید بدون غافل ماندن از چیزهای دیگر به عمل آورید.

⁴²But woe unto you, Pharisees! for ye tithe mint and rue and all manner of herbs, and pass over judgment and the love of God: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.

⁴³وای بحال شما ای فریسی ها، شما صدر مجلس را در کنیسه ها و سلام و تعارف را در بازارها دوست دارید.

⁴³Woe unto you, Pharisees! for ye love the uppermost seats in the synagogues, and greetings in the markets.

⁴⁴وای بحال شما! شما مانند قبرهایی هستید که هیچ نشانه ای روی آن ها نیست و مردم ندانسته و ناشناخته روی آن ها راه می روند.»

⁴⁴Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are as graves which appear not, and the men that walk over them are not aware of them.

⁴⁵یکی از معلمان شریعت در جواب عیسی گفت: «ای استاد، وقتی چنین حرفهایی می زنی به ما هم بر می خورد.»

⁴⁵Then answered one of the lawyers, and said unto him, Master, thus saying thou reproachest us also.

⁴⁶عیسی در جواب فرمود: «بلی، ای معلمان شریعت، وای بحال شما نیز، چون بارهای بسیار سنگین بر دوش مردم می گذارید و خود تان یک انگشت هم به آن بار نمی زنید.

⁴⁶And he said, Woe unto you also, ye lawyers! for ye lade men with burdens grievous to be borne, and ye yourselves touch not the burdens with one of your fingers.

⁴⁷وای بحال شما که مقبره های پیامبرانی را که پدران شما کشتند می سازید

⁴⁷Woe unto you! for ye build the sepulchres of the prophets, and your fathers killed them.

⁴⁸و به این وسیله اعمال پدران تان را تائید و تصدیق می کنید، چون آنها مرتکب آن قتل ها شدند و شما اینها را بنا می کنید.

⁴⁸Truly ye bear witness that ye allow the deeds of your fathers: for they indeed killed them, and ye build their sepulchres.

⁴⁹این است که حکمت خدا می فرماید: «برای ایشان پیامبران و رسولان می فرستم، بعضی را می کشند و بعضی را آزار می رسانند»،

⁴⁹Therefore also said the wisdom of God, I will send them prophets and apostles, and some of them they shall slay and persecute:

⁵⁰تا مردم این زمانه مجبور شوند جواب خون تمام پیامبرانی را که از اول پیدایش دنیا ریخته شده است بدهند،

⁵⁰That the blood of all the prophets, which was shed from the foundation of the world, may be required of this generation;

⁵¹از خون هابیل گرفته تا خون زکریا که بین قربانگاه و مکان مقدس عبادتگاه هلاک شد. بلی، بدانید که مردم این روزگار جواب همه آن ها را خواهند داد.

⁵¹From the blood of Abel unto the blood of Zacharias which perished between the altar and the temple: verily I say unto you, It shall be required of this generation.

⁵²وای بحال شما ای معلمان شریعت، شما کلید در معرفت را بر می دارید، خود تان داخل نمی شوید و آنانی را هم که می خواهند داخل شوند، نمی گذارید.»

⁵²Woe unto you, lawyers! for ye have taken away the key of knowledge: ye entered not in yourselves, and them that were entering in ye hindered.

⁵³وقتی عیسی از آن خانه بیرون رفت علمای دین و فریسی ها با خشم و غضب دور او را گرفتند و او را در موضوعات بسیار سؤال پیچ نمودندو در کمین بودند که او را با سخنان خودش به دام بیندازند.

⁵³And as he said these things unto them, the scribes and the Pharisees began to urge him vehemently, and to provoke him to speak of many things:

⁵⁴و در کمین بودند که او را با سخنان خودش به دام بیندازند.

⁵⁴Laying wait for him, and seeking to catch something out of his mouth, that they might accuse him.
