¹از طرف پولُس بندۀ عیسی مسیح و رسولی که خدا برای بشارت انجیل برگزیده و فراخوانده است.

¹Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God,

²خدا انجیل را مدتها پیش بوسیلۀ انبیای خود در کتاب مقدس وعده داد.

²(Which he had promised afore by his prophets in the holy scriptures,)

³این انجیل دربارۀ پسر او، خداوند ما عیسی مسیح است که از لحاظ جسم از نسل داود متولد شد

³Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh;

⁴و با زنده شدنش پس از مرگ با قدرت ثابت نمود که از لحاظ روحِ قدوسیت، او پسر خداست.

⁴And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead:

⁵خدا به وسیلۀ مسیح به ما فیض عطا فرمود تا رسولان او باشیم و همۀ ملت ها را به ایمان و اطاعت مسیح هدایت کنیم

⁵By whom we have received grace and apostleship, for obedience to the faith among all nations, for his name:

⁶این همچنین شامل حال شما رومیان است که خدا شما را دعوت فرموده تا از آنِ عیسی مسیح شوید.

⁶Among whom are ye also the called of Jesus Christ:

⁷من این رساله را به همۀ شما محبوبان خدا در روم که به این مقام مقدس خوانده شده اید می نویسم. فیض و سلامتی از طرف خدا، پدر ما، و عیسی مسیح خداوند با شما باد.

⁷To all that be in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ.

⁸پیش از هر چیز خدای خود را به وساطت عیسی مسیح برای همۀ شما شکر می کنم، زیرا ایمان شما در تمام دنیا شهرت یافته است.

⁸First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for you all, that your faith is spoken of throughout the whole world.

⁹خدا، آن خدایی که او را با اعلام انجیل دربارۀ پسرش از دل و جان خدمت می نمایم، شاهد است

⁹For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of his Son, that without ceasing I make mention of you always in my prayers;

¹⁰که همیشه در وقت دعا شما را بیاد می آورم و درخواست می کنم که در صورت امکان اگر خدا بخواهد بالاخره به دیدن شما موفق شوم زیرا

¹⁰Making request, if by any means now at length I might have a prosperous journey by the will of God to come unto you.

¹¹بسیار آرزومندم که شما را ببینم تا از برکت روحانی شما را بهره مند ساخته، تقویت نمایم.

¹¹For I long to see you, that I may impart unto you some spiritual gift, to the end ye may be established;

¹²مقصدم آن است که به وسیلۀ ایمان دو جانبه پشتیبان همکدیگر باشیم، شما به وسیلۀ ایمان من و من به وسیلۀ ایمان شما.

¹²That is, that I may be comforted together with you by the mutual faith both of you and me.

¹³ای برادران، نمی خواهم بی خبر باشید که بارها قصد داشتم نزد شما بیایم اما همیشه چیزی مرا از انجام آن بازداشته است. من خواسته ام همان طوری که در میان ملت های دیگر ثمری یافتم در میان شما نیز بیابم.

¹³Now I would not have you ignorant, brethren, that oftentimes I purposed to come unto you, (but was let hitherto,) that I might have some fruit among you also, even as among other Gentiles.

¹⁴زیرا من در برابر همه ـ از مردم پیشرفته گرفته تا وحشیان، از روشنفکران گرفته تا نادانان ـ دَینی به گردن دارم.

¹⁴I am debtor both to the Greeks, and to the Barbarians; both to the wise, and to the unwise.

¹⁵بنابراین شوق دارم که به قدر توانایی خود انجیل را به شما نیز که در روم به سر می برید اعلام نمایم.

¹⁵So, as much as in me is, I am ready to preach the gospel to you that are at Rome also.

¹⁶زیرا من از انجیل خِجِل نیستم؛ از آنرو که انجیل، قدرت خداست برای نجات هرکس که ایمان آورد، اول یهودیان و سپس غیر یهودیان

¹⁶For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

¹⁷زیرا انجیل نشان می دهد که خدا چگونه آدمیان را عادل می شمارد و این پایۀ ایمان است و بر ایمان بنا شده است، چنانکه که نوشته شده است: «شخص عادل بوسیلۀ ایمان زندگی می کند.»

¹⁷For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.

¹⁸غضب خدا از آسمان بر هر گونه گناه و شرارت مردمی نازل می شود که زندگی شرارت آمیز شان مانع شناسایی حقیقت است.

¹⁸For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;

¹⁹خدا آنها را مجازات می کند و این کار برحق است، زیرا آنچه آدمیان دربارۀ خدا می توانند بدانند، بر آن ها آشکار است زیرا خدا آن را در پیش چشمان ایشان قرار داده است.

¹⁹Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.

²⁰از زمان آفرینش دنیا، صفات نادیدنی او یعنی قدرت ازلی و اُلوهیت او در چیزهایی که او آفریده است، به روشنی مشاهده می شود و از این رو آن ها ابداً عذری ندارند.

²⁰For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:

²¹اگرچه آن ها خدا را شناختند ولی آن طوری که شایستۀ اوست او را تکریم و شکرگذاری نکردند. در عوض افکار شان کاملاً پوچ گشته و عقل ناقص آن ها تیره شده است.

²¹Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.

²²در حالی که ادعای حکمت می کنند، نشان می دهند که نادان هستند.

²²Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,

²³آن ها جلال خدای ابدی را به بُتهایی شبیه انسان فانی و پرندگان و چهارپایان و خزندگان تبدیل کردند.

²³And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.

²⁴به این جهت خدا ایشان را با شهوات و هوسهای خود شان در ناپاکی واگذاشت که با یکدیگر بدن های خود را ننگین سازند.

²⁴Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:

²⁵آنها حقیقت خدا را به دروغ تبدیل کردند و آفریده های خدا را به عوض خود آفریدگار پرستیدند، آفریدگاری که تا ابد شایستۀ ستایش است.

²⁵Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.

²⁶لذا خدا آدمیان را تسلیم شهوات ننگین خود شان کرده است. حتی زنها روابط طبیعی جنسی را به آنچه غیر طبیعی است تبدیل کردند.

²⁶For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:

²⁷به همان طریق مردان روابط جنسی طبیعی را با زنها ترک نمودند و در آتش شهوت برای هم جنسان خود سوختند. مردان مرتکب اعمال زشت و ننگین با مردان دیگر شدند و در وجود خود شان مجازاتی را که سزاوار چنین خلافکاری است، دیدند.

²⁷And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.

²⁸چون آن ها خداشناسی را امری ناچیز شمردند، خدا آن ها را تسلیم افکار فاسد شان نمود تا اعمال زشت و ناشایست بجا آورند.

²⁸And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;

²⁹آن ها از انواع شرارت و بدی و طمع و بدخواهی و همچنین از حسادت و آدمکشی و نزاع و فریبکاری و بد نیتی پُر هستند. آن ها شایعه می سازند

²⁹Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,

³⁰و از یکدیگر بدگویی می کنند، از خدا نفرت دارند، ظالم و مغرور و لافزن و سازندۀ بدیها هستند و از والدین خود سرپیچی می کنند.

³⁰Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,

³¹بی فهم، بی وفا و بی محبت و بی رحم هستند.و با وجود این که حکم خدا را می دانند که کنندگان چنین کارها مستوجب مرگند ولی نه فقط خود شان این کارها را می کنند بلکه دیگران را نیز در انجام آن ها تشویق می کنند.

³¹Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:

³²و با وجود این که حکم خدا را می دانند که کنندگان چنین کارها مستوجب مرگند ولی نه فقط خود شان این کارها را می کنند بلکه دیگران را نیز در انجام آن ها تشویق می کنند.

³²Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.
