1مدتی بعد نعومی به روت گفت: «باید برایت شوهری پیدا کنم تا تو بتوانی خانه و خانواده ای برای خودت داشته باشی.
1Then Naomi her mother in law said unto her, My daughter, shall I not seek rest for thee, that it may be well with thee?
2به خاطر داشته باش این بوعز که تو همراه زنان دیگر برایش کار می کنی از اقوام ما است. خوب گوش کن، او امشب مشغول خرمن کوبی خواهد بود.
2And now is not Boaz of our kindred, with whose maidens thou wast? Behold, he winnoweth barley to night in the threshingfloor.
3خود را خوب بشوی، کمی عطر بزن و بهترین چادر خود را بپوش، آنوقت به جائی که او مشغول خرمن کوبی است برو، ولی تا غذای خود را تمام نکند و مشروب خود را ننوشد، نگذار بفهمد تو در آنجا هستی.
3Wash thyself therefore, and anoint thee, and put thy raiment upon thee, and get thee down to the floor: but make not thyself known unto the man, until he shall have done eating and drinking.
4مواظب او باش و ببین کجا می خوابد. وقتی به خواب رفت، تو برو لحاف او را از روی پاهایش یکسو بزن و در پائین پاهای او دراز بکش. آنوقت او به تو خواهد گفت چه باید بکنی.»
4And it shall be, when he lieth down, that thou shalt mark the place where he shall lie, and thou shalt go in, and uncover his feet, and lay thee down; and he will tell thee what thou shalt do.
5روت در جواب گفت: «هرچه بگوئی انجام خواهم داد.»
5And she said unto her, All that thou sayest unto me I will do.
6پس روت به سر خرمن رفت و طبق امر مادر شوهر خود رفتار کرد.
6And she went down unto the floor, and did according to all that her mother in law bade her.
7وقتی بوعز از خوردن و نوشیدن دست کشید و کاملاً سر حال بود، رفت و روی آخرین پُشتۀ جو خوابید. روت آهسته به او نزدیک شد، لحاف را به یکسو زد و در پائین پاهای بوعز دراز کشید.
7And when Boaz had eaten and drunk, and his heart was merry, he went to lie down at the end of the heap of corn: and she came softly, and uncovered his feet, and laid her down.
8در نیم شب بوعز ناگهان از خواب بیدار شد، از یک پهلو به پهلوی دیگر غلتید و با تعجب دید که زنی در پائین پاهایش خوابیده است.
8And it came to pass at midnight, that the man was afraid, and turned himself: and, behold, a woman lay at his feet.
9بوعز پرسید: «تو کیستی؟» روت جواب داد: «ای آقا! من کنیزت روت هستم. شما یکی از اقوام نزدیک من و ولی هستید، بنابراین خواهش می کنم که سرپرستی مرا به عهدۀ خود بگیرید.»
9And he said, Who art thou? And she answered, I am Ruth thine handmaid: spread therefore thy skirt over thine handmaid; for thou art a near kinsman.
10بوعز گفت: «دخترم، خداوند ترا برکت دهد. با آنچه تو هم اکنون می کنی وفای خودت را به خانوادۀ ما حتی بیشتر از آنچه نسبت به مادر شوهرت انجام داده ای ثابت می کنی. تو می توانستی بدنبال یک مرد جوان غنی یا فقیر باشی، ولی این کار را نکردی.
10And he said, Blessed be thou of the LORD, my daughter: for thou hast showed more kindness in the latter end than at the beginning, inasmuch as thou followedst not young men, whether poor or rich.
11دیگر نگران نباش هر چه بگوئی برایت انجام خواهم داد. تمام مردم شهر می دانند که تو زن خوبی هستی.
11And now, my daughter, fear not; I will do to thee all that thou requirest: for all the city of my people doth know that thou art a virtuous woman.
12درست است که من یکی از خویشاوندان نزدیک تو و مسئول حمایت از تو می باشم، اما شخص دیگری هم در این شهر هست که از من به تو نزدیکتر است.
12And now it is true that I am thy near kinsman: howbeit there is a kinsman nearer than I.
13بقیۀ شب را اینجا بمان. فردا صبح خواهیم فهمید که آیا او مایل است حمایت از تو را بر عهده بگیرد یا نه. اگر حاضر بود چه بهتر، وگر نه به خدای زنده سوگند یاد می کنم که در آن صورت سرپرستی تو را بر عهده خواهم گرفت. حالا بخواب و تا صبح همین جا بمان.»
13Tarry this night, and it shall be in the morning, that if he will perform unto thee the part of a kinsman, well; let him do the kinsman's part: but if he will not do the part of a kinsman to thee, then will I do the part of a kinsman to thee, as the LORD liveth: lie down until the morning.
14پس روت در آنجا در پائین پاهای بوعز خوابید. اما صبح وقت قبل از آنکه هوا کاملاً روشن شود و کسی او را بشناسد برخاست، چون بوعز نمیخواست کسی بفهمد که زنی در آنجا بوده است.
14And she lay at his feet until the morning: and she rose up before one could know another. And he said, Let it not be known that a woman came into the floor.
15بوعز به او گفت: «چادر خود را روی زمین پهن کن.» روت هم همین کار را کرد و بوعز مقدار زیادی جو (در حدود دو سیر) در آن ریخت و به روت کمک کرد تا آنرا بر دوش بگذارد. پس روت با آن همه جو به شهر برگشت.
15Also he said, Bring the vail that thou hast upon thee, and hold it. And when she held it, he measured six measures of barley, and laid it on her: and she went into the city.
16وقتی به خانه رسید مادر شوهرش از او پرسید: «خوب، دخترم، کار تو با بوعز به کجا کشید؟» روت همه چیز را برای او تعریف کرد،
16And when she came to her mother in law, she said, Who art thou, my daughter? And she told her all that the man had done to her.
17و گفت: «بوعز به من گفت نباید دست خالی پیش تو برگردم. او تمام این جَو ها را به من داد.»نعومی به او گفت: «حال باید صبر کنی تا ببینیم نتیجۀ این کارها چه خواهد بود. بوعز تا این مسئله را امروز حل نکند آرام نمی گیرد.»
17And she said, These six measures of barley gave he me; for he said to me, Go not empty unto thy mother in law.
18نعومی به او گفت: «حال باید صبر کنی تا ببینیم نتیجۀ این کارها چه خواهد بود. بوعز تا این مسئله را امروز حل نکند آرام نمی گیرد.»
18Then said she, Sit still, my daughter, until thou know how the matter will fall: for the man will not be in rest, until he have finished the thing this day.
