¹And the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying,

¹Ja mulle tuli Issanda sõna; ta ütles:

²Son of man, speak to the children of thy people, and say unto them, When I bring the sword upon a land, and the people of the land take one man from among them all, and set him for their watchman:

²'Inimesepoeg, räägi oma rahva lastega ja ütle neile: Kui ma toon mõõga maa kallale, aga maa rahvas on võtnud enese keskelt ühe mehe ning on pannud selle enesele vahimeheks -

³if he see the sword coming upon the land, and blow the trumpet, and warn the people;

³ja kui see näeb mõõga tulevat maa kallale ja puhub sarve ning hoiatab rahvast -,

⁴then whosoever heareth the sound of the trumpet, and taketh not warning, if the sword come and take him away, his blood shall be upon his own head.

⁴siis, kui keegi kuuleb sarvehäält, aga ei lase ennast hoiatada, tuleb mõõk ja võtab tema ära; tema veri tuleb ta enese pea peale:

⁵He heard the sound of the trumpet, and took not warning; his blood is upon him: whereas had he taken warning, he would have delivered his soul.

⁵ta kuulis sarvehäält, aga ei lasknud ennast hoiatada; tema veri tuleb ta enese peale. Aga oleks ta lasknud ennast hoiatada, siis ta oleks päästnud oma hinge.

⁶But if the watchman see the sword coming, and blow not the trumpet, and the people be not warned, if the sword come and take a person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at the watchman's hand.

⁶Aga kui vahimees näeb mõõga tulevat, aga ei puhu sarve ega hoiata rahvast ja mõõk tuleb ning võtab ära nende hulgast ühe hinge, siis võetakse see küll ta oma süü pärast, kuid tema verd ma nõuan vahimehe käest.

⁷So thou, son of man, I have set thee a watchman unto the house of Israel; and thou shalt hear the word from my mouth, and warn them from me.

⁷Ja sina, inimesepoeg, sinu olen ma pannud Iisraeli soole vahimeheks. Kui sa kuuled sõna minu suust, siis sa pead neid hoiatama minu poolt.

⁸When I say unto the wicked, Wicked [man], thou shalt certainly die; and thou speakest not to warn the wicked from his way, that wicked [man] shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thy hand.

⁸Kui ma ütlen õelale: Õel, sa pead surema!, sina aga ei räägi, et manitseda õelat pöörduma tema teelt, siis see õel küll sureb oma süü pärast, kuid tema verd ma küsin sinu käest.

⁹But if thou warn the wicked of his way to turn from it, and he do not turn from his way, he shall die in his iniquity; but thou hast delivered thy soul.

⁹Aga kui sa manitsed õelat tema tee pärast, et ta sellelt pöörduks, tema aga ei pöördu oma teelt, siis ta sureb oma süü pärast ja sina oled päästnud oma hinge.

¹⁰And thou, son of man, say unto the house of Israel, Thus ye speak, saying, Our transgressions and our sins are upon us, and we waste away in them, how then should we live?

¹⁰Ja sina, inimesepoeg, ütle Iisraeli soole: Nõnda te räägite ja ütlete: Meie üleastumised ja patud on meie peal ja nende tõttu me hääbume; kuidas me siis võiksime jääda elama?

¹¹Say unto them, As I live, saith the Lord Jehovah, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live. Turn ye, turn ye from your evil ways; for why will ye die, O house of Israel?

¹¹Ütle neile: Nii tõesti kui ma elan, ütleb Issand Jumal, ei ole mul hea meel õela surmast, vaid sellest, et õel pöörduks oma teelt ja jääks ellu. Pöörduge, pöörduge oma kurjadelt teedelt, sest miks peaksite surema, Iisraeli sugu!

¹²And thou, son of man, say unto the children of thy people, The righteousness of the righteous shall not deliver him in the day of his transgression; and as for the wickedness of the wicked, he shall not fall thereby in the day that he turneth from his wickedness; neither shall the righteous be able to live thereby in the day that he sinneth.

¹²Ja sina, inimesepoeg, ütle oma rahva lastele: Õige õigus ei päästa teda tema üleastumise päeval, ja õela õelus ei pane teda komistama päeval, kui ta pöördub oma õelusest; õige ei või elada oma õigusest päeval, kui ta pattu teeb.

¹³When I say to the righteous that he shall certainly live, and he trusteth to his righteousness and doeth what is wrong, none of his righteous acts shall be remembered; but in his unrighteousness which he hath done, in it shall he die.

¹³Kui ma ütlen õigele, et ta tõesti jääb elama, tema aga loodab oma õiguse peale ja teeb ülekohut, siis ei peeta meeles ühtegi ta õiget tegu, vaid ta sureb oma ülekohtu pärast, mida ta tegi.

¹⁴And when I say unto the wicked, Thou shalt certainly die, and he turneth from his sin, and doeth judgment and justice;

¹⁴Ja kui ma ütlen õelale, et ta peab surema, tema aga pöördub oma patust ja teeb, mis on kohus ja õige -

¹⁵if the wicked restore the pledge, give again that he had taken by robbery, walk in the statutes of life, doing nothing that is wrong; he shall certainly live, he shall not die.

¹⁵kui see õel annab tagasi pandi, asendab röövitu ja käib elu seaduste järgi ilma ülekohut tegemata -, siis ta jääb tõesti elama, ta ei sure.

¹⁶None of his sins which he hath committed shall be remembered against him: he hath done judgment and justice; he shall certainly live.

¹⁶Ühtegi ta pattu, mis ta on teinud, ei peeta meeles tema vastu: ta on teinud, mis on kohus ja õige, ta jääb tõesti elama.

¹⁷Yet the children of thy people say, The way of the Lord is not equal: but as for them, their way is not equal.

¹⁷Ometi ütlevad su rahva lapsed: 'Issanda tee ei ole õige!' Kuid nende enda tee ei ole õige!

¹⁸When the righteous turneth from his righteousness, and doeth what is wrong, then he shall die therein.

¹⁸Kui õige pöördub oma õigusest ja teeb ülekohut, siis ta sureb selle pärast.

¹⁹And when the wicked turneth from his wickedness, and doeth judgment and justice, he shall live for these things.

¹⁹Ja kui õel pöördub oma õelusest ja teeb, mis on kohus ja õige, siis ta jääb selle pärast elama.

²⁰Yet ye say, The way of the Lord is not equal. O house of Israel, I will judge you every one after his ways.

²⁰Aga teie ütlete veel: 'Issanda tee ei ole õige!' Mina mõistan kohut igaühe üle teie seast tema teede kohaselt, oh Iisraeli sugu.'

²¹And it came to pass in the twelfth year of our captivity, in the tenth [month], on the fifth of the month, that one who had escaped out of Jerusalem came unto me, saying, The city is smitten!

²¹Ja meie vangipõlve kaheteistkümnendal aastal, kümnenda kuu viiendal päeval tuli mu juurde põgenik Jeruusalemmast ja ütles: 'Linn on vallutatud!'

²²Now the hand of Jehovah had been upon me in the evening, before he that had escaped came; and he had opened my mouth against his coming to me in the morning; and my mouth was opened, and I was no more dumb.

²²Aga Issanda käsi oli tulnud mu peale õhtul, enne kui põgenik tuli, ja ta oli avanud mu suu, enne kui too jõudis hommikul mu juurde. Nõnda avati mu suu ja ma ei olnud enam tumm.

²³And the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying,

²³Ja mulle tuli Issanda sõna; ta ütles:

²⁴Son of man, they that inhabit those waste places in the land of Israel speak, saying, Abraham was one, and he inherited this land, and we are many: the land is given us for a possession.

²⁴'Inimesepoeg! Need, kes elavad neis laastatud paigus Iisraeli maal, räägivad ja ütlevad: 'Aabraham oli ainult üksinda ja ta päris maa; meid aga on palju, maa on antud meile pärandiks.'

²⁵Therefore say unto them, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Ye eat with the blood, and lift up your eyes toward your idols, and shed blood; and shall ye possess the land?

²⁵Seepärast ütle neile: Nõnda ütleb Issand Jumal: Te sööte liha verega, tõstate oma silmad oma ebajumalate poole ja valate verd; ja teie peaksite pärima maa?

²⁶Ye stand upon your sword, ye work abomination, and ye defile every one his neighbour's wife; and shall ye possess the land?

²⁶Te seisate oma mõõga najal, teete jäledust ja rüvetate igaüks oma ligimese naist; ja teie peaksite pärima maa?

²⁷Say thou thus unto them, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: [As] I live, verily they that are in the waste places shall fall by the sword, and him that is in the open field will I give to the beasts to be devoured, and they that are in the strongholds and in the caves shall die of the pestilence.

²⁷Ütle neile nii: Nõnda ütleb Issand Jumal: Nii tõesti kui ma elan, langevad need, kes on laastatud paigus, mõõga läbi, ja need, kes on lagedal väljal, annan ma metsalistele toiduks, ja need, kes on varjupaikades ja koobastes, surevad katku.

²⁸And I will make the land a desolation and an astonishment, and the pride of her strength shall cease; and the mountains of Israel shall be desolated, so that none shall pass through.

²⁸Ja ma teen maa tühjaks ja lagedaks ning tema kõrgil vägevusel on lõpp; Iisraeli mäed jäävad lagedaks ja ükski ei käi seal.

²⁹And they shall know that I [am] Jehovah, when I have made the land a desolation and an astonishment because of all their abominations which they have committed.

²⁹Ja nad saavad tunda, et mina olen Issand, kui ma teen maa tühjaks ja lagedaks kõigi nende jäleduste pärast, mis nad on teinud.

³⁰And as for thee, son of man, the children of thy people keep talking of thee by the walls and in the doors of the houses, and speak one to another, every one to his brother, saying, Come, I pray you, and hear what is the word that cometh forth from Jehovah.

³⁰Ja sina, inimesepoeg! Su rahva lapsed räägivad sinust seinte ääres ja kodade lävel ning ütlevad isekeskis üksteisele nõnda: 'Tulge ometi ja kuulake, milline sõna nüüd tuleb Issandalt!'

³¹And they come unto thee as a people cometh, and they sit before thee [as] my people, and they hear thy words, but they do them not; for with their mouth they shew much love, [but] their heart goeth after their dishonest gain.

³¹Nad tulevad su juurde, nagu rahval on viisiks tulla, ja nad istuvad su ees nagu minu rahvas ja kuulevad su sõnu, aga nad ei tee nende järgi; sest neil on meelitused suus, nad teevad nende järgi ja nende süda ajab taga omakasu.

³²And behold, thou art unto them as a lovely song, a pleasant voice, and one that playeth well on an instrument; and they hear thy words, but they do them not.

³²Ja vaata, sa oled neile nagu armastuslaul, ilus kõlalt ja kaunisti kanneldatud: nad kuulevad küll su sõnu, aga nad ei tee nende järgi.

³³And when this cometh to pass (behold, it will come), then shall they know that a prophet hath been among them.

³³Aga kui see täide läheb, vaata, see läheb täide, siis saavad nad teada, et nende keskel on olnud prohvet.'
