¹And all the assembly of the children of Israel journeyed from the wilderness of Sin, according to their journeys, at the command of Jehovah; and they encamped in Rephidim; and there was no water for the people to drink.

¹Und die ganze Gemeinde der Kinder Israel zog aus der Wüste Sin ihre Tagereisen, nach dem Befehl des HERRN, und lagerte sich in Raphidim; da hatte das Volk kein Wasser zu trinken.

²And the people contended with Moses, and said, Give us water, that we may drink! And Moses said to them, Why do ye dispute with me? Why do ye tempt Jehovah?

²Darum zankten sie mit Mose und sprachen: Gebt uns Wasser, daß wir trinken! Mose sprach zu ihnen: Was zankt ihr mit mir? Warum versucht ihr den HERRN?

³And the people thirsted there for water; and the people murmured against Moses, and said, Why is it that thou hast brought us up out of Egypt, to kill us and our children and our cattle with thirst?

³Als nun das Volk daselbst nach Wasser dürstete, murrten sie wider Mose und sprachen: Warum hast du uns aus Ägypten heraufgeführt, daß du uns und unsere Kinder und unser Vieh vor Durst sterben lässest?

⁴And Moses cried to Jehovah, saying, What shall I do with this people? Yet a little, and they will stone me!

⁴Mose schrie zum HERRN und sprach: Was soll ich mit diesem Volke tun? Es fehlt wenig, sie werden mich noch steinigen!

⁵And Jehovah said to Moses, Go on before the people, and take with thee of the elders of Israel, and thy staff with which thou didst smite the river, take in thy hand, and go.

⁵Der HERR sprach zu Mose: Gehe hin vor das Volk und nimm etliche Älteste von Israel mit dir und nimm den Stab, mit dem du den Fluß schlugest, in deine Hand und gehe hin.

⁶Behold, I will stand before thee there upon the rock on Horeb; and thou shalt strike the rock, and there shall come water out of it, that the people may drink. And Moses did so before the eyes of the elders of Israel.

⁶Siehe, ich will daselbst vor dir auf einem Felsen in Horeb stehen; da sollst du den Felsen schlagen, so wird Wasser herauslaufen, daß das Volk trinke. Mose tat also vor den Ältesten Israels.

⁷And he called the name of the place Massah, and Meribah, because of the contention of the children of Israel, and because they had tempted Jehovah, saying, Is Jehovah among us, or not?

⁷Da hieß man den Ort Massa und Meriba, wegen des Zanks der Kinder Israel, und daß sie den HERRN versucht und gesagt hatten: Ist der HERR mitten unter uns oder nicht?

⁸And Amalek came and fought with Israel in Rephidim.

⁸Da kam Amalek und stritt wider Israel in Raphidim.

⁹And Moses said to Joshua, Choose us men, and go out, fight with Amalek; to-morrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the staff of God in my hand.

⁹Und Mose sprach zu Josua: Erwähle uns Männer und ziehe aus, streite wider Amalek! Morgen will ich auf des Hügels Spitze stehen und den Stab Gottes in meiner Hand haben.

¹⁰And Joshua did as Moses had said to him, to fight with Amalek; and Moses, Aaron and Hur went up to the top of the hill.

¹⁰Und Josua tat, wie Mose ihm sagte, daß er wider Amalek stritt. Mose aber und Aaron und Hur stiegen auf die Spitze des Hügels.

¹¹And it came to pass when Moses raised his hand, that Israel prevailed; and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed.

¹¹Und solange Mose seine Hände aufhob, siegte Israel; wenn er aber seine Hände sinken ließ, siegte Amalek.

¹²And Moses' hands were heavy; then they took a stone, and put [it] under him, and he sat on it; and Aaron and Hur supported his hands, one on this side, and one on that side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun.

¹²Aber die Hände Moses wurden schwer, darum nahmen sie einen Stein und legten denselben unter ihn, daß er sich darauf setzte. Aaron aber und Hur unterstützten seine Hände, auf jeder Seite einer. Also blieben seine Hände fest, bis die Sonne unterging.

¹³And Joshua broke the power of Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword.

¹³Und Josua besiegte den Amalek und sein Volk durch die Schärfe des Schwertes.

¹⁴And Jehovah said to Moses, Write this [for] a memorial in the book, and rehearse [it] in the ears of Joshua, that I will utterly blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under the heavens.

¹⁴Da sprach der HERR zu Mose: Schreibe das zum Gedächtnis in ein Buch und lege es Josua in die Ohren, nämlich: ich will das Gedächtnis Amaleks unter dem Himmel ganz austilgen.

¹⁵And Moses built an altar, and called the name of it Jehovah-nissi.

¹⁵Und Mose baute dem HERRN einen Altar und hieß ihn: Der HERR ist mein Panier.

¹⁶And he said, For the hand is on the throne of Jah; Jehovah will have war with Amalek from generation to generation!

¹⁶Und er sprach: Weil eine Hand auf dem Throne des HERRN erhoben ist , soll der Krieg des HERRN wider Amalek währen, von Geschlecht zu Geschlecht.
