1And while Ezra prayed, and made confession, weeping and falling down before the house of God, there were gathered to him out of Israel a very great congregation of men and women and children; for the people wept very much.
1[] Ενω δε ο Εσδρας προσηυχετο και εξωμολογειτο, κλαιων και πεπτωκως εμπροσθεν του οικου του Θεου, συνηχθη προς αυτον εκ του Ισραηλ συναξις μεγαλη σφοδρα, ανδρες και γυναικες και παιδια· διοτι εκλαιεν ο λαος κλαυθμον μεγαν.
2And Shechaniah the son of Jehiel, of the sons of Elam, answered and said to Ezra, We have acted unfaithfully toward our God, and have taken foreign wives of the peoples of the land; yet now there is hope for Israel concerning this thing.
2Και απεκριθη Σεχανιας ο υιος του Ιεχιηλ, εκ των υιων Ελαμ, και ειπε προς τον Εσδραν, Ημεις ηνομησαμεν εις τον Θεον ημων και ελαβομεν ξενας γυναικας εκ των λαων της γης· πλην τωρα ειναι ελπις εις τον Ισραηλ περι τουτου·
3And now let us make a covenant with our God to put away all the wives, and such as are born of them, according to the counsel of [my] lord, and of those that tremble at the commandments of our God; and let it be done according to the law.
3οθεν ας καμωμεν τωρα διαθηκην προς τον Θεον ημων, να αποβαλωμεν πασας τας γυναικας και τα γεννηθεντα εξ αυτων, κατα την συμβουλην του κυριου μου και των οσοι τρεμουσιν εις την εντολην του Θεου ημων· και ας γεινη κατα τον νομον·
4Arise, for this matter is incumbent on thee, and we will be with thee: be of good courage, and do [it].
4εγερθητι διοτι το πραγμα ανηκει εις σε· και ημεις ειμεθα μετα σου· ανδριζου και πραττε.
5Then Ezra arose, and made the chiefs of the priests, of the Levites, and of all Israel, to swear that they would do according to this word. And they swore.
5Τοτε εγερθεις ο Εσδρας, ωρκισε τους αρχοντας των ιερεων, των Λευιτων και παντος του Ισραηλ, οτι θελουσι καμει κατα τον λογον τουτον. Και ωρκισθησαν.
6And Ezra arose from before the house of God, and went into the chamber of Jehohanan the son of Eliashib; and when he came thither, he ate no bread and drank no water; for he mourned because of the unfaithfulness of them that had been carried away.
6[] Και σηκωθεις ο Εσδρας απ' εμπροσθεν του οικου του Θεου, υπηγεν εις το οικημα του Ιωαναν υιου του Ελιασειβ· και οτε ηλθεν εκει, αρτον δεν εφαγεν και υδωρ δεν επιε· διοτι ητο εις πενθος δια την παραβασιν των μετοικισθεντων.
7And they made proclamation in Judah and Jerusalem to all the children of the captivity, that they should gather themselves together unto Jerusalem;
7Και διεκηρυξαν κατα την Ιουδαιαν και Ιερουσαλημ προς παντας τους υιους της μετοικεσιας, να συναχθωσιν εις Ιερουσαλημ·
8and that whosoever would not come within three days, according to the counsel of the princes and the elders, all his substance should be confiscated, and himself separated from the congregation of those that had been carried away.
8και πας οστις δεν ελθη εντος τριων ημερων, κατα την βουλην των αρχοντων και πρεσβυτερων, θελει γεινει αναθεμα πασα η περιουσια αυτου, και αυτος θελει χωρισθη απο της συναξεως των μετοικισθεντων.
9Then were all the men of Judah and Benjamin gathered together at Jerusalem within three days. It was the ninth month, on the twentieth of the month; and all the people sat in the open space of the house of God, trembling because of the matter, and because of the pouring rain.
9Και συνηχθησαν παντες οι ανδρες Ιουδα και Βενιαμιν εις Ιερουσαλημ εντος τριων ημερων. Ητο ο ενατος μην και η εικοστη του μηνος· και πας ο λαος εκαθησεν εν τη πλατεια του οικου του Θεου, τρεμων δια το πραγμα και δια την μεγαλην βροχην.
10And Ezra the priest stood up and said to them, Ye have acted unfaithfully, and have taken foreign wives, to increase the trespass of Israel.
10Και εγερθεις ο Εσδρας ο ιερευς, ειπε προς αυτους, Σεις ηνομησατε και ελαβετε γυναικας ξενας, δια να επιπροσθεσητε εις την παραβασιν του Ισραηλ·
11And now make confession to Jehovah the God of your fathers, and do his pleasure, and separate yourselves from the peoples of the land, and from the foreign wives.
11τωρα λοιπον εξομολογηθητε προς Κυριον τον Θεον των πατερων σας και καμετε το θελημα αυτου· και χωρισθητε απο των λαων της γης και απο των ξενων γυναικων.
12And the whole congregation answered and said with a loud voice, Yes, it is for us to do according to thy words.
12Και απεκριθη πασα η συναξις και ειπον μετα φωνης μεγαλης, Καθως ελαλησας προς ημας, ουτω να καμωμεν·
13But the people are many, and it is a time of pouring rain, and it is not possible to stand without: neither is this a work for one day or two; for we are many that have transgressed in this thing.
13ο λαος ομως ειναι πολυς και ο καιρος πολυ βροχερος, και δεν δυναμεθα να στεκωμεθα εξω, και το εργον δεν ειναι μιας ημερας ουδε δυο· διοτι ειμεθα πολλοι οι αμαρτησαντες εις τουτο το πραγμα·
14Let now our princes, while this matter is going on, stand for all the congregation, and let all those that have taken foreign wives in our cities come at the appointed times, and with them the elders of every city, and the judges thereof, until the fierce anger of our God be turned from us.
14ας διορισθωσι τωρα αρχοντες ημων εν ολη τη συναξει, και ας ελθωσι καθ' ωρισμενους καιρους παντες οι λαβοντες ξενας γυναικας εις τας πολεις ημων, και μετ' αυτων οι πρεσβυτεροι εκαστης πολεως και οι κριται αυτης, εωσου η φλογερα οργη του Θεου ημων δια το πραγμα τουτο αποστραφη αφ' ημων.
15Only Jonathan the son of Asahel and Jahzeiah the son of Tikvah stood up against this; and Meshullam and Shabbethai the Levite helped them.
15[] Διωρισθησαν λοιπον εις τουτο Ιωναθαν ο υιος του Ασαηλ, και Ιααζιας ο υιος του Τικβα· ο δε Μεσουλλαμ και ο Σαββεθαι, οι Λευιται, ησαν βοηθοι αυτων.
16And the children of the captivity did so. And Ezra the priest [and] certain of the chief fathers were separated according to their fathers' houses, and all of them [expressed] by name; and they sat down on the first day of the tenth month to examine the matter.
16Και εκαμον ουτως οι υιοι της μετοικεσιας. Και ο Εσδρας ο ιερευς και αρχοντες τινες των πατριων, κατα τους πατρικους οικους αυτων, και ουτοι παντες κατ' ονομα, εχωρισθησαν και εκαθησαν την πρωτην ημεραν του δεκατου μηνος δια να εξετασωσι την υποθεσιν.
17And they ended with all the men that had taken foreign wives by the first day of the first month.
17Και ετελειωσαν με παντας τους ανδρας, τους λαβοντας ξενας γυναικας, εως της πρωτης ημερας του πρωτου μηνος.
18And among the sons of the priests there were found that had taken foreign wives, of the sons of Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and his brethren: Maaseiah, and Eliezer, and Jarib, and Gedaliah.
18Και μεταξυ των υιων των ιερεων ευρεθησαν οι λαβοντες ξενας γυναικας, εκ των υιων του Ιησου υιου του Ιωσεδεκ και των αδελφων αυτου, ο Μαασιας και ο Ελιεζερ, και ο Ιαρειβ και ο Γεδαλιας.
19And they gave their hand to send away their wives; and they offered a ram of the flock, as trespass-offering for their guilt.
19Και εδωκαν τας χειρας αυτων, οτι θελουσιν αποβαλει τας γυναικας αυτων· και ως ενοχοι, προσεφεραν κριον εκ του ποιμνιου δια την ανομιαν αυτων.
20And of the children of Immer: Hanani, and Zebadiah.
20Και εκ των υιων του Ιμμηρ, Ανανι και Ζεβαδιας.
21And of the children of Harim: Maaseiah, and Elijah, and Shemaiah, and Jehiel, and Uzziah.
21Και εκ των υιων του Χαρημ, Μαασιας και Ηλιας και Σεμαιας και Ιεχιηλ και Οζιας.
22And of the children of Pashhur: Elioenai, Maaseiah, Ishmael, Nethaneel, Jozabad, and Elasah.
22Και εκ των υιων του Πασχωρ, Ελιωηναι, Μαασιας, Ισμαηλ, Ναθαναηλ, Ιωζαβαδ και Ελασα.
23And of the Levites: Jozabad, and Shimei, and Kelaiah (that is, Kelita), Pethahiah, Judah, and Eliezer.
23Εκ δε των Λευιτων, Ιωζαβαδ και Σιμει και Κελαιας, ουτος ειναι ο Κελιτα, Πεθαια, Ιουδας και Ελιεζερ.
24And of the singers: Eliashib. And of the doorkeepers: Shallum, and Telem, and Uri.
24Και εκ των ψαλτωδων, Ελιασειβ· και εκ των θυρωρων, Σαλλουμ και Τελεμ και Ουρει.
25And of Israel; of the children of Parosh: Ramiah, and Jizzijah, and Malchijah, and Mijamin, and Eleazar, and Malchijah, and Benaiah.
25Εκ δε του Ισραηλ, εκ των υιων Φαρως, Ραμιας και Ιεζιας και Μαλχιας και Μιαμειν και Ελεαζαρ και Μαλχιας και Βεναιας.
26And of the children of Elam: Mattaniah, Zechariah, and Jehiel, and Abdi, and Jeremoth, and Elijah.
26Και εκ των υιων Ελαμ, Ματθανιας, Ζαχαριας και Ιεχιηλ και Αβδι και Ιερεμωθ και Ηλια.
27And of the children of Zattu: Elioenai, Eliashib, Mattaniah, and Jeremoth, and Zabad, and Aziza.
27Και εκ των υιων Ζατθου, Ελιωηναι, Ελιασειβ, Ματθανιας και Ιερεμωθ και Ζαβαδ και Αζιζα.
28And of the children of Bebai: Jehohanan, Hananiah, Zabbai, Athlai.
28Εκ δε των υιων Βηβαι, Ιωαναν, Ανανιας, Ζαββαι και Αθλαι.
29And of the children of Bani: Meshullam, Malluch, and Adaiah, Jashub, and Sheal, and Ramoth.
29Και εκ των υιων Βανι, Μεσουλλαμ, Μαλλουχ και Αδαιας, Ιασουβ και Σεαλ και Ραμωθ.
30And of the children of Pahath-Moab: Adna, and Chelal, Benaiah, Maaseiah, Mattaniah, Bezaleel, and Binnui, and Manasseh.
30Και εκ των υιων Φααθ-μωαβ, Αδνα και Χελαλ, Βεναιας, Μαασιας, Ματθανιας, Βεζελεηλ και Βιννουι και Μανασσης.
31And the children of Harim: Eliezer, Jishijah, Malchijah, Shemaiah, Simeon,
31Και εκ των υιων Χαρημ, Ελιεζερ, Ιεσιας, Μαλχιας, Σεμαιας και Συμεων,
32Benjamin, Malluch, Shemariah.
32Βενιαμιν, Μαλλουχ και Σεμαριας.
33Of the children of Hashum: Mattenai, Mattattah, Zabad, Eliphelet, Jeremai, Manasseh, Shimei.
33Εκ των υιων Ασουμ, Ματθεναι, Ματταθα, Ζαβαδ, Ελιφελετ, Ιερεμαι, Μανασσης και Σιμει.
34Of the sons of Bani: Maadai, Amram, and Uel,
34Εκ των υιων Βανι, Μααδαιας, Αμραμ και Ουηλ,
35Benaiah, Bediah, Cheluhu,
35Βεναιας, Βεδειας, Χελλου,
36Vaniah, Meremoth, Eliashib,
36Βανιας, Μερημωθ, Ελιασειβ,
37Mattaniah, Mattenai, and Jaasai,
37Ματθανιας, Ματθεναι και Ιαασω
38and Bani, and Binnui, Shimei,
38και Βανι και Βιννουι, Σιμει,
39and Shelemiah, and Nathan, and Adaiah,
39και Σελεμιας και Ναθαν και Αδαιας,
40Machnadbai, Shashai, Sharai,
40Μαχναδεβαι, Σασαι, Σαραι,
41Azareel, and Shelemiah, Shemariah,
41Αζαρεηλ και Σελεμιας, Σεμαριας,
42Shallum, Amariah, Joseph.
42Σαλλουμ, Αμαριας και Ιωσηφ.
43Of the children of Nebo: Jeiel, Mattithiah, Zabad, Zebina, Jaddai, and Joel, Benaiah.
43Εκ των υιων Νεβω, Ιειηλ, Ματταθιας, Ζαβαδ, Ζεβινα, Ιαδαυ και Ιωηλ και Βεναιας.
44All these had taken foreign wives; and there were among them wives who had had children.
44Παντες ουτοι ειχον λαβει ξενας γυναικας· και τινες εξ αυτων γυναικας, εξ ων ετεκνοποιησαν.
