1Be ye therefore imitators of God, as beloved children,
1לכן לכו בדרך האלהים כבנים חביבים׃
2and walk in love, even as the Christ loved us, and delivered himself up for us, an offering and sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling savour.
2והתהלכו באהבה כאשר גם המשיח אהב אתנו והקריב את נפשו בעדנו לקרבן וזבח לאלהים לריח ניחוח׃
3But fornication and all uncleanness or unbridled lust, let it not be even named among you, as it becomes saints;
3אבל זנות וכל טמאה ואהבת בצע בל יזכר ביניכם כאשר נאוה לקדשים׃
4and filthiness and foolish talking, or jesting, which are not convenient; but rather thanksgiving.
4גם לא נבול פה ודברי סכלות ולעג אשר לא כהגן כי אם קול תודה׃
5For this ye are [well] informed of, knowing that no fornicator, or unclean person, or person of unbridled lust, who is an idolater, has inheritance in the kingdom of the Christ and God.
5כי זאת ידע תדעו כי כל זנה וטמא ואהב בצע שהוא עבד אלילים אין לו חלק ונחלה במלכות המשיח והאלהים׃
6Let no one deceive you with vain words, for on account of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience.
6אל ישיא איש אתכם בדברי ריק כי בגלל אלה חרון אלהים בא על בני המרי׃
7Be not ye therefore fellow-partakers with them;
7על כן אל יהי חלקכם עמהם׃
8for ye were once darkness, but now light in [the] Lord; walk as children of light,
8כי מלפנים הייתם חשך ועתה הנכם אור באדנינו התהלכו נא כבני אור׃
9(for the fruit of the light [is] in all goodness and righteousness and truth,)
9כי פרי הרוח כל מעשי חסד וצדק ואמת׃
10proving what is agreeable to the Lord;
10ובחנו מה הוא רצוי בעיני אדנינו׃
11and do not have fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather also reprove [them],
11ואל תשתתפו עם מעשי החשך אשר לא יעשו פרי כי אם הוכח תוכיחו אותם׃
12for the things that are done by them in secret it is shameful even to say.
12כי מה שהם עשים בסתר חרפה היא אך לספר׃
13But all things having their true character exposed by the light are made manifest; for that which makes everything manifest is light.
13אבל כל זאת יגלה כשיוכח על ידי האור כי כל הנגלה אור הוא׃
14Wherefore he says, Wake up, [thou] that sleepest, and arise up from among the dead, and the Christ shall shine upon thee.
14על כן הוא אומר עורה הישן וקומה מן המתים ויאר לך המשיח׃
15See therefore how ye walk carefully, not as unwise but as wise,
15ועתה ראו והזהרו להתהלך לא ככסילים כי אם כחכמים׃
16redeeming the time, because the days are evil.
16מוקירים העת כי הימים רעים המה׃
17For this reason be not foolish, but understanding what [is] the will of the Lord.
17על כן אל תהיו חסרי דעת כי אם מבינים לדעת מה הוא רצון אדנינו׃
18And be not drunk with wine, in which is debauchery; but be filled with the Spirit,
18ואל תשתכרו מיין המביא לידי פריצות כי אם המלאו ברוח׃
19speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and chanting with your heart to the Lord;
19ושיחו איש לרעהו בתהלות ותשבחות ושירות רוחניות שירו וזמרו לאדני בלבבכם׃
20giving thanks at all times for all things to him [who is] God and [the] Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,
20והודו בכל עת על הכל לאלהים אבינו בשם אדנינו ישוע המשיח׃
21submitting yourselves to one another in [the] fear of Christ.
21הכנעו איש לאחיו ביראת אלהים׃
22Wives, [submit yourselves] to your own husbands, as to the Lord,
22הנשים הכנענה לבעליכן כמו לאדנינו׃
23for a husband is head of the wife, as also the Christ [is] head of the assembly. *He* [is] Saviour of the body.
23כי האיש הוא ראש האשה כאשר המשיח הוא ראש העדה והוא מושיע של הגוף׃
24But even as the assembly is subjected to the Christ, so also wives to their own husbands in everything.
24אבל כאשר תכנע העדה למשיח ככה גם הנשים לבעליהן בכל דבר׃
25Husbands, love your own wives, even as the Christ also loved the assembly, and has delivered himself up for it,
25האנשים אהבו את נשיכם כאשר גם המשיח אהב את העדה ויתן את נפשו בעדה׃
26in order that he might sanctify it, purifying [it] by the washing of water by [the] word,
26למען קדשה בדברו אחרי אשר טהרה ברחיצת המים׃
27that *he* might present the assembly to himself glorious, having no spot, or wrinkle, or any of such things; but that it might be holy and blameless.
27להקימה בכבוד לו לעדה אשר אין בה כתם וקמט וכדומה כי אם למען תהיה קדושה ותמימה׃
28So ought men also to love their own wives as their own bodies: he that loves his own wife loves himself.
28כן האנשים חיבים לאהב את נשיהם כגופם כי האהב את אשתו אהב את עצמו׃
29For no one has ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, even as also the Christ the assembly:
29כי מעולם לא שנא איש את בשרו כי אם זן ומכלכל אתו כאשר גם האדון את עדתו׃
30for we are members of his body; [we are of his flesh, and of his bones.]
30כי אברי גופו אנחנו משברו ומעצמיו׃
31Because of this a man shall leave his father and mother, and shall be united to his wife, and the two shall be one flesh.
31על כן יעזב איש את אביו ואת אמו ודבק באשתו והיו שניהם לבשר אחד׃
32This mystery is great, but *I* speak as to Christ, and as to the assembly.
32גדול הסוד הזה ואני מפרש אתו על המשיח ועל עדתו׃
33But *ye* also, every one of you, let each so love his own wife as himself; but as to the wife [I speak] that she may fear the husband.
33ואולם גם אתם כל איש מכם יאהב את אשתו כנפשו והאשה היא תזהר ותירא את בעלה׃
