1And it came to pass after these things, that God tried Abraham, and said to him, Abraham! and he said, Here am I.
1ויהי אחר הדברים האלה והאלהים נסה את אברהם ויאמר אליו אברהם ויאמר הנני׃
2And he said, Take now thy son, thine only [son], whom thou lovest, Isaac, and get thee into the land of Moriah, and there offer him up for a burnt-offering on one of the mountains which I will tell thee of.
2ויאמר קח נא את בנך את יחידך אשר אהבת את יצחק ולך לך אל ארץ המריה והעלהו שם לעלה על אחד ההרים אשר אמר אליך׃
3And Abraham rose early in the morning, and saddled his ass, and took two of his young men with him, and Isaac his son; and he clave the wood for the burnt-offering, and rose up and went to the place that God had told him of.
3וישכם אברהם בבקר ויחבש את חמרו ויקח את שני נעריו אתו ואת יצחק בנו ויבקע עצי עלה ויקם וילך אל המקום אשר אמר לו האלהים׃
4On the third day Abraham lifted up his eyes and saw the place from afar.
4ביום השלישי וישא אברהם את עיניו וירא את המקום מרחק׃
5And Abraham said to his young men, Abide ye here with the ass; and I and the lad will go yonder and worship, and come again to you.
5ויאמר אברהם אל נעריו שבו לכם פה עם החמור ואני והנער נלכה עד כה ונשתחוה ונשובה אליכם׃
6And Abraham took the wood of the burnt-offering, and laid it on Isaac his son; and he took the fire in his hand, and the knife, and they went both of them together.
6ויקח אברהם את עצי העלה וישם על יצחק בנו ויקח בידו את האש ואת המאכלת וילכו שניהם יחדו׃
7And Isaac spoke to Abraham his father, and said, My father! And he said, Here am I, my son. And he said, Behold the fire and the wood; but where is the sheep for a burnt-offering?
7ויאמר יצחק אל אברהם אביו ויאמר אבי ויאמר הנני בני ויאמר הנה האש והעצים ואיה השה לעלה׃
8And Abraham said, My son, God will provide himself with the sheep for a burnt-offering. And they went both of them together.
8ויאמר אברהם אלהים יראה לו השה לעלה בני וילכו שניהם יחדו׃
9And they came to the place of which God had told him. And Abraham built the altar there, and piled the wood; and he bound Isaac his son, and laid him on the altar upon the wood.
9ויבאו אל המקום אשר אמר לו האלהים ויבן שם אברהם את המזבח ויערך את העצים ויעקד את יצחק בנו וישם אתו על המזבח ממעל לעצים׃
10And Abraham stretched out his hand, and took the knife to slaughter his son.
10וישלח אברהם את ידו ויקח את המאכלת לשחט את בנו׃
11And the Angel of Jehovah called to him from the heavens, and said, Abraham, Abraham! And he said, Here am I.
11ויקרא אליו מלאך יהוה מן השמים ויאמר אברהם אברהם ויאמר הנני׃
12And he said, Stretch not out thy hand against the lad, neither do anything to him; for now I know that thou fearest God, and hast not withheld thy son, thine only [son], from me.
12ויאמר אל תשלח ידך אל הנער ואל תעש לו מאומה כי עתה ידעתי כי ירא אלהים אתה ולא חשכת את בנך את יחידך ממני׃
13And Abraham lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold, behind was a ram caught in the thicket by its horns; and Abraham went and took the ram, and offered it up for a burnt-offering instead of his son.
13וישא אברהם את עיניו וירא והנה איל אחר נאחז בסבך בקרניו וילך אברהם ויקח את האיל ויעלהו לעלה תחת בנו׃
14And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovah-jireh; as it is said at the present day, On the mount of Jehovah will be provided.
14ויקרא אברהם שם המקום ההוא יהוה יראה אשר יאמר היום בהר יהוה יראה׃
15And the Angel of Jehovah called to Abraham from the heavens a second time,
15ויקרא מלאך יהוה אל אברהם שנית מן השמים׃
16and said, By myself I swear, saith Jehovah, that, because thou hast done this, and hast not withheld thy son, thine only [son],
16ויאמר בי נשבעתי נאם יהוה כי יען אשר עשית את הדבר הזה ולא חשכת את בנך את יחידך׃
17I will richly bless thee, and greatly multiply thy seed, as the stars of heaven, and as the sand that is on the sea-shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies;
17כי ברך אברכך והרבה ארבה את זרעך ככוכבי השמים וכחול אשר על שפת הים וירש זרעך את שער איביו׃
18and in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth bless themselves, because thou hast hearkened to my voice.
18והתברכו בזרעך כל גויי הארץ עקב אשר שמעת בקלי׃
19And Abraham returned to his young men, and they rose up and went together to Beer-sheba. And Abraham dwelt at Beer-sheba.
19וישב אברהם אל נעריו ויקמו וילכו יחדו אל באר שבע וישב אברהם בבאר שבע׃
20And it came to pass after these things, that it was told Abraham, saying, Behold, Milcah, she also has borne sons to thy brother Nahor:
20ויהי אחרי הדברים האלה ויגד לאברהם לאמר הנה ילדה מלכה גם הוא בנים לנחור אחיך׃
21Uz his first-born, and Buz his brother, and Kemuel the father of Aram,
21את עוץ בכרו ואת בוז אחיו ואת קמואל אבי ארם׃
22and Chesed, and Hazo, and Pildash, and Jidlaph, and Bethuel.
22ואת כשד ואת חזו ואת פלדש ואת ידלף ואת בתואל׃
23(And Bethuel begot Rebecca.) These eight Milcah bore to Nahor, Abraham's brother.
23ובתואל ילד את רבקה שמנה אלה ילדה מלכה לנחור אחי אברהם׃
24And his concubine, named Reumah, she also bore Tebah, and Gaham, and Thahash, and Maacah.
24ופילגשו ושמה ראומה ותלד גם הוא את טבח ואת גחם ואת תחש ואת מעכה׃
