1And Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying,
1וידבר יהוה אל משה לאמר׃
2Avenge the children of Israel upon the Midianites; afterwards shalt thou be gathered unto thy peoples.
2נקם נקמת בני ישראל מאת המדינים אחר תאסף אל עמיך׃
3And Moses spoke to the people, saying, Arm from amongst you men for military service, that they go against Midian to execute Jehovah's vengeance upon Midian.
3וידבר משה אל העם לאמר החלצו מאתכם אנשים לצבא ויהיו על מדין לתת נקמת יהוה במדין׃
4Of every tribe a thousand, of all the tribes of Israel, shall ye send to the war.
4אלף למטה אלף למטה לכל מטות ישראל תשלחו לצבא׃
5And there were levied out of the thousands of Israel, a thousand by tribe, twelve thousand armed for war.
5וימסרו מאלפי ישראל אלף למטה שנים עשר אלף חלוצי צבא׃
6And Moses sent them to the war, a thousand by the tribe, them and Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest, to the war, and the holy instruments, even the alarm-trumpets in his hand.
6וישלח אתם משה אלף למטה לצבא אתם ואת פינחס בן אלעזר הכהן לצבא וכלי הקדש וחצצרות התרועה בידו׃
7And they warred against Midian, as Jehovah had commanded Moses, and slew all the males.
7ויצבאו על מדין כאשר צוה יהוה את משה ויהרגו כל זכר׃
8And they slew the kings of Midian, besides the others slain, Evi, and Rekem, and Zur, and Hur, and Reba, five kings of Midian; and Balaam the son of Beor they slew with the sword.
8ואת מלכי מדין הרגו על חלליהם את אוי ואת רקם ואת צור ואת חור ואת רבע חמשת מלכי מדין ואת בלעם בן בעור הרגו בחרב׃
9And the children of Israel took the women of Midian captives, and their little ones, and took for a spoil all their cattle and all their flocks and all their goods;
9וישבו בני ישראל את נשי מדין ואת טפם ואת כל בהמתם ואת כל מקנהם ואת כל חילם בזזו׃
10and all their cities in their settlements and all their encampments they burned with fire.
10ואת כל עריהם במושבתם ואת כל טירתם שרפו באש׃
11And they took all the booty, and all the prey, of man and of cattle;
11ויקחו את כל השלל ואת כל המלקוח באדם ובבהמה׃
12and they brought to Moses and Eleazar the priest, and to the assembly of the children of Israel, the captives and the prey and the booty, to the camp in the plains of Moab, which are by the Jordan of Jericho.
12ויבאו אל משה ואל אלעזר הכהן ואל עדת בני ישראל את השבי ואת המלקוח ואת השלל אל המחנה אל ערבת מואב אשר על ירדן ירחו׃
13And Moses and Eleazar the priest and all the princes of the assembly went forth to meet them outside the camp.
13ויצאו משה ואלעזר הכהן וכל נשיאי העדה לקראתם אל מחוץ למחנה׃
14And Moses was wroth with the officers of the army, with the captains of thousands, and captains of hundreds, who came from the service of the war;
14ויקצף משה על פקודי החיל שרי האלפים ושרי המאות הבאים מצבא המלחמה׃
15and Moses said to them, Have ye saved all the women alive?
15ויאמר אליהם משה החייתם כל נקבה׃
16Lo, these, through the counsel of Balaam, caused the children of Israel to commit sin against Jehovah in the matter of Peor, and there was a plague on the assembly of Jehovah.
16הן הנה היו לבני ישראל בדבר בלעם למסר מעל ביהוה על דבר פעור ותהי המגפה בעדת יהוה׃
17And now slay every male among the little ones, and slay every woman that hath known man by lying with him,
17ועתה הרגו כל זכר בטף וכל אשה ידעת איש למשכב זכר הרגו׃
18but all the children among the women that have not known lying with a man, keep alive for yourselves.
18וכל הטף בנשים אשר לא ידעו משכב זכר החיו לכם׃
19And encamp outside the camp seven days; whoever hath killed a person, and whoever hath touched any slain; ye shall purify yourselves on the third day, and on the seventh day, you and your captives.
19ואתם חנו מחוץ למחנה שבעת ימים כל הרג נפש וכל נגע בחלל תתחטאו ביום השלישי וביום השביעי אתם ושביכם׃
20And every garment, and every vessel of skin, and all work of goat's hair, and every utensil of wood shall ye purify.
20וכל בגד וכל כלי עור וכל מעשה עזים וכל כלי עץ תתחטאו׃
21And Eleazar the priest said to the men of war that had gone to the battle, This is the statute of the law which Jehovah hath commanded Moses.
21ויאמר אלעזר הכהן אל אנשי הצבא הבאים למלחמה זאת חקת התורה אשר צוה יהוה את משה׃
22Only the gold, and the silver, the copper, the iron, the tin, and the lead,
22אך את הזהב ואת הכסף את הנחשת את הברזל את הבדיל ואת העפרת׃
23everything that passeth through the fire, ye shall make it go through the fire, and it shall be clean; only it shall be purified with the water of separation; and everything that cannot pass through the fire ye shall make go through the water.
23כל דבר אשר יבא באש תעבירו באש וטהר אך במי נדה יתחטא וכל אשר לא יבא באש תעבירו במים׃
24And ye shall wash your garments on the seventh day, and ye shall be clean; and afterwards ye may come into the camp.
24וכבסתם בגדיכם ביום השביעי וטהרתם ואחר תבאו אל המחנה׃
25And Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying,
25ויאמר יהוה אל משה לאמר׃
26Take the sum of the prey that was taken, of man and of cattle, thou, and Eleazar the priest, and the chief fathers of the assembly;
26שא את ראש מלקוח השבי באדם ובבהמה אתה ואלעזר הכהן וראשי אבות העדה׃
27and divide the prey into halves, between them that conducted the war, who went out to the battle, and the whole assembly.
27וחצית את המלקוח בין תפשי המלחמה היצאים לצבא ובין כל העדה׃
28And thou shalt levy a tribute for Jehovah of the men of war who went out to the army, one soul of five hundred of the persons, and of the oxen, and of the asses, and of the small cattle.
28והרמת מכס ליהוה מאת אנשי המלחמה היצאים לצבא אחד נפש מחמש המאות מן האדם ומן הבקר ומן החמרים ומן הצאן׃
29Of their half shall ye take it, and give it unto Eleazar the priest, for a heave-offering of Jehovah.
29ממחציתם תקחו ונתתה לאלעזר הכהן תרומת יהוה׃
30And of the children of Israel's half, thou shalt take one portion of fifty, of the persons, of the oxen, of the asses, and of the small cattle, of every [kind of] beasts, and thou shalt give them unto the Levites, who keep the charge of the tabernacle of Jehovah.
30וממחצת בני ישראל תקח אחד אחז מן החמשים מן האדם מן הבקר מן החמרים ומן הצאן מכל הבהמה ונתתה אתם ללוים שמרי משמרת משכן יהוה׃
31And Moses and Eleazar the priest did as Jehovah had commanded Moses.
31ויעש משה ואלעזר הכהן כאשר צוה יהוה את משה׃
32And the prey, the rest of the spoil, which the men of war had taken, was six hundred and seventy-five thousand sheep,
32ויהי המלקוח יתר הבז אשר בזזו עם הצבא צאן שש מאות אלף ושבעים אלף וחמשת אלפים׃
33and seventy-two thousand oxen,
33ובקר שנים ושבעים אלף׃
34and sixty-one thousand asses,
34וחמרים אחד וששים אלף׃
35and of human persons, of the women that had not known lying with a man, all the persons were thirty-two thousand.
35ונפש אדם מן הנשים אשר לא ידעו משכב זכר כל נפש שנים ושלשים אלף׃
36And the half, the portion of them that had gone out to the war, was in number three hundred and thirty-seven thousand five hundred sheep,
36ותהי המחצה חלק היצאים בצבא מספר הצאן שלש מאות אלף ושלשים אלף ושבעת אלפים וחמש מאות׃
37and the tribute for Jehovah of the sheep was six hundred and seventy-five;
37ויהי המכס ליהוה מן הצאן שש מאות חמש ושבעים׃
38and the oxen were thirty-six thousand, and the tribute thereof for Jehovah, seventy-two;
38והבקר ששה ושלשים אלף ומכסם ליהוה שנים ושבעים׃
39and the asses were thirty thousand five hundred, and the tribute thereof for Jehovah, sixty-one;
39וחמרים שלשים אלף וחמש מאות ומכסם ליהוה אחד וששים׃
40and the human persons were sixteen thousand, of whom the tribute for Jehovah was thirty-two persons.
40ונפש אדם ששה עשר אלף ומכסם ליהוה שנים ושלשים נפש׃
41And Moses gave the tribute of Jehovah's heave-offering to Eleazar the priest, as Jehovah had commanded Moses.
41ויתן משה את מכס תרומת יהוה לאלעזר הכהן כאשר צוה יהוה את משה׃
42And of the children of Israel's half, which Moses had divided, [taking it] from the men that served in the war,
42וממחצית בני ישראל אשר חצה משה מן האנשים הצבאים׃
43(now the half belonging to the assembly was of the sheep, three hundred and thirty-seven thousand five hundred,
43ותהי מחצת העדה מן הצאן שלש מאות אלף ושלשים אלף שבעת אלפים וחמש מאות׃
44and thirty-six thousand oxen,
44ובקר ששה ושלשים אלף׃
45and thirty thousand five hundred asses,
45וחמרים שלשים אלף וחמש מאות׃
46and sixteen thousand human persons,)
46ונפש אדם ששה עשר אלף׃
47... of the children of Israel's half, Moses took one portion of fifty, of man and of cattle, and gave them to the Levites who kept the charge of the tabernacle of Jehovah; as Jehovah had commanded Moses.
47ויקח משה ממחצת בני ישראל את האחז אחד מן החמשים מן האדם ומן הבהמה ויתן אתם ללוים שמרי משמרת משכן יהוה כאשר צוה יהוה את משה׃
48And the officers who were over the thousands of the host, the captains of thousands, and captains of hundreds, came near to Moses,
48ויקרבו אל משה הפקדים אשר לאלפי הצבא שרי האלפים ושרי המאות׃
49and they said to Moses, Thy servants have taken the sum of the men of war who were under our hand, and there is not one man of us lacking.
49ויאמרו אל משה עבדיך נשאו את ראש אנשי המלחמה אשר בידנו ולא נפקד ממנו איש׃
50So we present the offering of Jehovah, that which each one hath found, jewels of gold, chains, and bracelets, rings, earrings, and necklaces, to make atonement for our souls before Jehovah.
50ונקרב את קרבן יהוה איש אשר מצא כלי זהב אצעדה וצמיד טבעת עגיל וכומז לכפר על נפשתינו לפני יהוה׃
51And Moses and Eleazar the priest took the gold of them, all manner of wrought jewels.
51ויקח משה ואלעזר הכהן את הזהב מאתם כל כלי מעשה׃
52And all the gold of the heave-offering that they offered to Jehovah was sixteen thousand seven hundred and fifty shekels, from the captains of thousands and the captains of hundreds.
52ויהי כל זהב התרומה אשר הרימו ליהוה ששה עשר אלף שבע מאות וחמשים שקל מאת שרי האלפים ומאת שרי המאות׃
53(The men of war had taken spoil each one for himself.)
53אנשי הצבא בזזו איש לו׃
54And Moses and Eleazar the priest took the gold of the captains of thousands and of hundreds, and brought it into the tent of meeting, as a memorial for the children of Israel before Jehovah.
54ויקח משה ואלעזר הכהן את הזהב מאת שרי האלפים והמאות ויבאו אתו אל אהל מועד זכרון לבני ישראל לפני יהוה׃
