¹And when it opened the seventh seal, there was silence in the heaven about half an hour.

¹Þegar lambið lauk upp sjöunda innsiglinu, varð þögn á himni hér um bil hálfa stund.

²And I saw the seven angels who stand before God, and seven trumpets were given to them.

²Og ég sá englana sjö, sem stóðu frammi fyrir Guði, og þeim voru fengnar sjö básúnur.

³And another angel came and stood at the altar, having a golden censer; and much incense was given to him, that he might give [efficacy] to the prayers of all saints at the golden altar which [was] before the throne.

³Og annar engill kom og nam staðar við altarið. Hann hélt á reykelsiskeri úr gulli. Honum var fengið mikið reykelsi til þess að hann skyldi leggja það við bænir allra hinna heilögu á gullaltarið frammi fyrir hásætinu.

⁴And the smoke of the incense went up with the prayers of the saints, out of the hand of the angel before God.

⁴Og reykurinn af reykelsinu steig upp með bænum hinna heilögu úr hendi engilsins frammi fyrir Guði.

⁵And the angel took the censer, and filled it from the fire of the altar, and cast [it] on the earth: and there were voices, and thunders and lightnings, and an earthquake.

⁵Þá tók engillinn reykelsiskerið og fyllti það eldi af altarinu og varpaði ofan á jörðina. Og þrumur komu og dunur og eldingar og landskjálfti.

⁶And the seven angels who had the seven trumpets prepared themselves that they might sound with [their] trumpets.

⁶Og englarnir sjö, sem héldu á básúnunum sjö, bjuggu sig til að blása.

⁷And the first sounded [his] trumpet: and there was hail and fire, mingled with blood, and they were cast upon the earth; and the third part of the earth was burnt up, and the third part of the trees was burnt up, and all green grass was burnt up.

⁷Hinn fyrsti básúnaði. Þá kom hagl og eldur, blóði blandað, og því var varpað ofan á jörðina. Og þriðjungur jarðarinnar eyddist í loga, og þriðjungur trjánna eyddist í loga, og allt grængresi eyddist í loga.

⁸And the second angel sounded [his] trumpet: and as a great mountain burning with fire was cast into the sea, and the third part of the sea became blood;

⁸Annar engillinn básúnaði. Þá var sem miklu fjalli, logandi af eldi, væri varpað í hafið. Þriðjungur hafsins varð blóð,

⁹and the third part of the creatures which were in the sea which had life died; and the third part of the ships were destroyed.

⁹og þriðjungurinn dó af lífverum þeim, sem eru í hafinu, og þriðjungur skipanna fórst.

¹⁰And the third angel sounded [his] trumpet: and there fell out of the heaven a great star, burning as a torch, and it fell upon the third part of the rivers, and upon the fountains of waters.

¹⁰Þriðji engillinn básúnaði. Þá féll stór stjarna af himni, logandi sem blys, og hún féll ofan á þriðjung fljótanna og á lindir vatnanna.

¹¹And the name of the star is called Wormwood; and the third part of the waters became wormwood, and many of the men died of the waters because they were made bitter.

¹¹Nafn stjörnunnar er Remma. Þriðjungur vatnanna varð að remmu og margir menn biðu bana af vötnunum, af því að þau voru beisk orðin.

¹²And the fourth angel sounded [his] trumpet: and the third part of the sun was smitten, and the third part of the moon, and the third part of the stars; so that the third part of them should be darkened, and that the day should not appear [for] the third part of it, and the night the same.

¹²Fjórði engillinn básúnaði. Þá varð þriðjungur sólarinnar lostinn og þriðjungur tunglsins og þriðjungur stjarnanna, svo að þriðjungur þeirra yrði myrkur. Og dagurinn missti þriðjung birtu sinnar og nóttin hið sama.Þá sá ég og heyrði örn einn fljúga um háhvolf himins. Hann kallaði hárri röddu: ,,Vei, vei, vei þeim, sem á jörðu búa, vegna lúðurhljóma englanna þriggja, sem eiga eftir að básúna.``

¹³And I saw, and I heard an eagle flying in mid-heaven, saying with a loud voice, Woe, woe, woe, to them that dwell upon the earth, for the remaining voices of the trumpet of the three angels who are about to sound.

¹³Þá sá ég og heyrði örn einn fljúga um háhvolf himins. Hann kallaði hárri röddu: ,,Vei, vei, vei þeim, sem á jörðu búa, vegna lúðurhljóma englanna þriggja, sem eiga eftir að básúna.``
