¹And Hiram king of Tyre sent messengers to David, and timber of cedars, with masons and carpenters, to build him a house.

¹ツロの王ヒラムはダビデに使者をつかわし、彼のために家を建てさせようと香柏および石工と木工を送った。

²And David perceived that Jehovah had established him king over Israel, for his kingdom was highly exalted, because of his people Israel.

²ダビデは主が自分を堅く立ててイスラエルの王とされたことと、その民イスラエルのために彼の国を大いに興されたことを悟った。

³And David took more wives at Jerusalem: and David begot more sons and daughters.

³ダビデはエルサレムでまた妻たちをめとった。そしてダビデにまたむすこ、娘が生れた。

⁴And these are the names of the children which he had in Jerusalem: Shammua, and Shobab, Nathan, and Solomon,

⁵and Ibhar, and Elishua, and Elpelet,

⁵イブハル、エリシュア、エルペレテ、

⁶and Nogah, and Nepheg, and Japhia,

⁶ノガ、ネペグ、ヤピア、

⁷and Elishama, and Beeliada, and Eliphelet.

⁸And the Philistines heard that David was anointed king over all Israel, and all the Philistines went up to seek David; and David heard [of it], and went out against them.

⁸さてペリシテびとはダビデが油を注がれて全イスラエルの王になったことを聞いたので、ペリシテびとはみな上ってきてダビデを捜した。ダビデはこれを聞いてこれに当ろうと出ていったが、

⁹And the Philistines came and spread themselves in the valley of Rephaim.

⁹ペリシテびとはすでに来て、レパイムの谷を侵した。

¹⁰And David inquired of God saying, Shall I go up against the Philistines, and wilt thou give them into my hand? And Jehovah said to him, Go up; and I will give them into thy hand.

¹⁰ダビデは神に問うて言った、「ペリシテびとに向かって上るべきでしょうか。あなたは彼らをわたしの手にわたされるでしょうか」。主はダビデに言われた、「上りなさい。わたしは彼らをあなたの手にわたそう」。

¹¹And they came up to Baal-perazim, and David smote them there; and David said, God has broken in upon mine enemies by my hand, as the breaking forth of waters. Therefore they called the name of that place Baal-perazim.

¹¹そこで彼はバアル・ペラジムへ上っていった。その所でダビデは彼らを打ち敗り、そして言った、「神は破り出る水のように、わたしの手で敵を破られた」。それゆえ、その所の名はバアル・ペラジムと呼ばれている。

¹²And they left their gods there; and David commanded, and they were burned with fire.

¹²彼らが自分たちの神をそこに残して退いたので、ダビデは命じてこれを火で焼かせた。

¹³And the Philistines yet again spread themselves in the valley.

¹⁴And David inquired again of God; and God said to him, Go not up after them; turn round them and come upon them opposite the mulberry-trees.

¹⁴ダビデが再び神に問うたので神は言われた、「あなたは彼らを追って上ってはならない。遠回りしてバルサムの木の前から彼らを襲いなさい。

¹⁵And it shall be, when thou hearest the sound of marching in the tops of the mulberry-trees, that then thou shalt go out to battle; for God will have gone forth before thee to smite the army of the Philistines.

¹⁵バルサムの木の上に行進の音が聞えたならば、あなたは行って戦いなさい。神があなたの前に出てペリシテびとの軍勢を撃たれるからです」。

¹⁶And David did as God commanded him; and they smote the army of the Philistines from Gibeon even to Gezer.

¹⁶ダビデは神が命じられたようにして、ペリシテびとの軍勢を撃ち破り、ギベオンからゲゼルに及んだ。そこでダビデの名はすべての国々に聞えわたり、主はすべての国びとに彼を恐れさせられた。

¹⁷And the fame of David went out into all lands; and Jehovah brought the fear of him upon all the nations.
