¹If there arise among you a prophet, or one that dreameth dreams, and he give thee a sign or a wonder,

¹あなたがたのうちに預言者または夢みる者が起って、しるしや奇跡を示し、

²and the sign or the wonder come to pass that he told unto thee, when he said, Let us go after other gods, whom thou hast not known, and let us serve them,

²あなたに告げるそのしるしや奇跡が実現して、あなたがこれまで知らなかった『ほかの神々に、われわれは従い仕えよう』と言っても、

³-- thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams; for Jehovah your God proveth you, to know whether ye love Jehovah your God with all your heart and with all your soul.

³あなたはその預言者または夢みる者の言葉に聞き従ってはならない。あなたがたの神、主はあなたがたが心をつくし、精神をつくして、あなたがたの神、主を愛するか、どうかを知ろうと、このようにあなたがたを試みられるからである。

⁴Ye shall walk after Jehovah your God, and ye shall fear him, and his commandments shall ye keep, and his voice shall ye hear; and ye shall serve him, and unto him shall ye cleave.

⁴あなたがたの神、主に従って歩み、彼を恐れ、その戒めを守り、その言葉に聞き従い、彼に仕え、彼につき従わなければならない。

⁵And that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams, shall be put to death; for he hath spoken revolt against Jehovah your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, and redeemed you out of the house of bondage, -- to draw thee out of the way that Jehovah thy God commanded thee to walk in; and thou shalt put evil away from thy midst.

⁵その預言者または夢みる者を殺さなければならない。あなたがたをエジプトの国から導き出し、奴隷の家からあがなわれたあなたがたの神、主にあなたがたをそむかせ、あなたの神、主が歩めと命じられた道を離れさせようとして語るゆえである。こうしてあなたがたのうちから悪を除き去らなければならない。

⁶If thy brother, the son of thy mother, or thy son, or thy daughter, or the wife of thy bosom, or thy friend, who is to thee as thy soul, entice thee secretly, saying, Let us go and serve other gods (whom thou hast not known, thou, nor thy fathers;

⁶同じ母に生れたあなたの兄弟、またはあなたのむすこ、娘、またはあなたのふところの妻、またはあなたと身命を共にする友が、ひそかに誘って『われわれは行って他の神々に仕えよう』と言うかも知れない。これはあなたも先祖たちも知らなかった神々、

⁷of the gods of the peoples which are round about you, near unto thee, or far from thee, from one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth),

⁷すなわち地のこのはてから、地のかのはてまで、あるいは近く、あるいは遠く、あなたの周囲にある民の神々である。

⁸thou shalt not consent unto him, nor hearken unto him; neither shall thine eye spare him, neither shalt thou pity him, neither shalt thou screen him,

⁸しかし、あなたはその人に従ってはならない。その人の言うことを聞いてはならない。その人をあわれんではならない。その人を惜しんではならない。その人をかばってはならない。

⁹but thou shalt in any case kill him: thy hand shall be the first against him to put him to death, and afterwards the hands of all the people;

⁹必ず彼を殺さなければならない。彼を殺すには、あなたがまず彼に手を下し、その後、民がみな手を下さなければならない。

¹⁰and thou shalt stone him with stones, that he die; for he hath sought to draw thee away from Jehovah thy God who brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage;

¹⁰彼はエジプトの国、奴隷の家からあなたを導き出されたあなたの神、主からあなたを離れさせようとしたのであるから、あなたは石をもって彼を撃ち殺さなければならない。

¹¹and all Israel shall hear, and fear, and shall do no more any such wicked thing as this in thy midst.

¹¹そうすればイスラエルは皆聞いて恐れ、重ねてこのような悪い事を、あなたがたのうちに行わないであろう。

¹²If in one of thy cities, which Jehovah thy God hath given thee to dwell there, thou hearest, saying,

¹²あなたの神、主があなたに与えて住まわせられる町の一つで、

¹³There are men, children of Belial, gone out from among you, and they have drawn away the inhabitants of their city, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, whom ye have not known;

¹³よこしまな人々があなたがたのうちに起って、あなたがたの知らなかった『ほかの神々に、われわれは行って仕えよう』と言って、その町に住む人々を誘惑したことを聞くならば、

¹⁴then shalt thou inquire, and make search, and ask diligently; and if it be truth, [and] the thing be certain, that this abomination hath happened in the midst of thee,

¹⁴あなたはそれを尋ね、探り、よく問いたださなければならない。そして、そのような憎むべき事があなたがたのうちに行われた事が、真実で、確かならば、

¹⁵thou shalt surely smite the inhabitants of that city with the edge of the sword, devoting it to destruction, and all that is therein, and the cattle thereof, with the edge of the sword.

¹⁵あなたは必ず、その町に住む者をつるぎの刃にかけて撃ち殺し、その町と、そのうちにおるすべての者、およびその家畜をつるぎの刃にかけて、ことごとく滅ぼさなければならない。

¹⁶And all the spoil of it shalt thou gather into the midst of the open place thereof, and shalt burn the city with fire, and all the spoil thereof, wholly to Jehovah thy God; and it shall be a heap for ever; it shall not be built again.

¹⁶またそのすべてのぶんどり物は、町の広場の中央に集め、火をもってその町と、すべてのぶんどり物とを、ことごとく焼いて、あなたの神、主にささげなければならない。これはながく荒塚となって、再び建て直されないであろう。

¹⁷And thou shalt not let anything cleave to thy hand of the devoted thing; that Jehovah may turn from the fierceness of his anger, and shew thee mercy, and have compassion upon thee, and multiply thee, as he hath sworn unto thy fathers;

¹⁷そののろわれた物は一つもあなたの手に留めおいてはならない。主が激しい怒りをやめ、あなたに慈悲を施して、あなたをあわれみ、先祖たちに誓われたように、あなたの数を多くされるためである。あなたの神、主の言葉に聞き従い、わたしが、きょう、命じるすべての戒めを守り、あなたの神、主が正しいと見られる事を行うならば、このようになるであろう。

¹⁸when thou hearkenest to the voice of Jehovah thy God, to keep all his commandments which I command thee this day, that thou mayest do what is right in the eyes of Jehovah thy God.

¹⁸あなたの神、主の言葉に聞き従い、わたしが、きょう、命じるすべての戒めを守り、あなたの神、主が正しいと見られる事を行うならば、このようになるであろう。
