¹And the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying,

¹主の言葉がわたしに臨んだ、

²Son of man, what is the wood of the vine more than any wood, the vine-branch, which is among the trees of the forest?

²「人の子よ、ぶどうの木、森の木のうちにあるぶどうの枝は、ほかの木になんのまさる所があるか。

³Shall wood be taken thereof to do any work? or will [men] take a pin of it to hang any vessel thereon?

³その木は何かを造るために用いられるか。また人はこれを用いて、器物を掛ける木釘を造るだろうか。

⁴Behold, it is given to the fire for fuel: the fire consumeth both the ends of it, and the midst of it is burned; is it fit for [any] work?

⁴見よ、これは火に投げ入れられて燃える。火がその両端を焼いたとき、またその中ほどがこげたとき、それはなんの役に立つだろうか。

⁵Behold, when it was whole, it was used for no work; how much less when the fire hath consumed it, and it is burned, should it yet be used for any work?

⁵見よ、これは完全な時でも、なんの用をもなさない。まして火がこれを焼き、これをこがした時には、なんの役に立つだろうか。

⁶Therefore thus saith the Lord Jehovah: As the wood of the vine among the trees of the forest, which I have given to the fire for fuel, so will I give the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

⁶それゆえ主なる神はこう言われる、わたしが森の木の中のぶどうの木を、火に投げ入れて焼くように、エルサレムの住民をそのようにする。

⁷And I will set my face against them: they shall go forth from [one] fire, and [another] fire shall devour them; and ye shall know that I [am] Jehovah when I set my face against them.

⁷わたしはわたしの顔を彼らに向けて攻める。彼らがその火からのがれても、火は彼らを焼き尽す。わたしが顔を彼らに向けて攻める時、あなたがたはわたしが主であることを知る。彼らが、もとりそむいたゆえに、わたしはこの地を荒れ地とすると、主なる神は言われる」。

⁸And I will make the land a desolation, because they have wrought unfaithfulness, saith the Lord Jehovah.
