¹And it came to pass when Isaac had become old, and his eyes were dim so that he could not see, that he called Esau his elder son, and said to him, My son! And he said to him, Here am I.

¹イサクは年老い、目がかすんで見えなくなった時、長子エサウを呼んで言った、「子よ」。彼は答えて言った、「ここにおります」。

²And he said, Behold now, I am become old; I know not the day of my death.

²イサクは言った。「わたしは年老いて、いつ死ぬかも知れない。

³And now, I pray thee, take thy weapons, thy quiver and thy bow, and go out to the field and hunt me venison,

³それであなたの武器、弓矢をもって野に出かけ、わたしのために、しかの肉をとってきて、

⁴and prepare me a savoury dish such as I love, and bring it to me that I may eat, in order that my soul may bless thee before I die.

⁴わたしの好きなおいしい食べ物を作り、持ってきて食べさせよ。わたしは死ぬ前にあなたを祝福しよう」。

⁵And Rebecca heard when Isaac spoke to Esau his son. And Esau went to the field to hunt venison, to bring it.

⁵イサクがその子エサウに語るのをリベカは聞いていた。やがてエサウが、しかの肉を獲ようと野に出かけたとき、

⁶And Rebecca spoke to Jacob her son, saying, Behold, I heard thy father speak to Esau thy brother, saying,

⁶リベカはその子ヤコブに言った、「わたしは聞いていましたが、父は兄エサウに、

⁷Bring me venison, and prepare me a savoury dish, that I may eat, and bless thee before Jehovah, before my death.

⁷『わたしのために、しかの肉をとってきて、おいしい食べ物を作り、わたしに食べさせよ。わたしは死ぬ前に、主の前であなたを祝福しよう』と言いました。

⁸And now, my son, hearken to my voice in that which I command thee.

⁸それで、子よ、わたしの言葉にしたがい、わたしの言うとおりにしなさい。

⁹Go, I pray thee, to the flock, and fetch me thence two good kids of the goats. And I will make of them a savoury dish for thy father, such as he loves.

⁹群れの所へ行って、そこからやぎの子の良いのを二頭わたしの所に取ってきなさい。わたしはそれで父のために、父の好きなおいしい食べ物を作りましょう。

¹⁰And thou shalt bring [it] to thy father, that he may eat, in order that he may bless thee before his death.

¹⁰あなたはそれを持って行って父に食べさせなさい。父は死ぬ前にあなたを祝福するでしょう」。

¹¹And Jacob said to Rebecca his mother, Behold, Esau my brother is a hairy man, and I am a smooth man.

¹¹ヤコブは母リベカに言った、「兄エサウは毛深い人ですが、わたしはなめらかです。

¹²My father perhaps will feel me, and I shall be in his sight as one who mocks [him], and I shall bring a curse on me, and not a blessing.

¹²おそらく父はわたしにさわってみるでしょう。そうすればわたしは父を欺く者と思われ、祝福を受けず、かえってのろいを受けるでしょう」。

¹³And his mother said to him, On me [be] thy curse, my son! Only hearken to my voice, and go, fetch [them].

¹³母は彼に言った、「子よ、あなたがうけるのろいはわたしが受けます。ただ、わたしの言葉に従い、行って取ってきなさい」。

¹⁴And he went, and fetched and brought [them] to his mother. And his mother prepared a savoury dish such as his father loved.

¹⁴そこで彼は行ってやぎの子を取り、母の所に持ってきたので、母は父の好きなおいしい食べ物を作った。

¹⁵And Rebecca took the clothes of her elder son Esau, the costly ones which were with her in the house, and put them on Jacob her younger son;

¹⁵リベカは家にあった長子エサウの晴着を取って、弟ヤコブに着せ、

¹⁶and she put the skins of the kids of the goats on his hands, and on the smooth of his neck;

¹⁶また子やぎの皮を手と首のなめらかな所とにつけさせ、

¹⁷and she gave the savoury dishes and the bread that she had prepared into the hand of her son Jacob.

¹⁷彼女が作ったおいしい食べ物とパンとをその子ヤコブの手にわたした。

¹⁸And he came to his father, and said, My father! And he said, Here am I: who art thou, my son?

¹⁸そこでヤコブは父の所へ行って言った、「父よ」。すると父は言った、「わたしはここにいる。子よ、あなたはだれか」。

¹⁹And Jacob said to his father, I am Esau, thy firstborn. I have done according as thou didst say to me. Arise, I pray thee, sit and eat of my venison, in order that thy soul may bless me.

¹⁹ヤコブは父に言った、「長子エサウです。あなたがわたしに言われたとおりにいたしました。どうぞ起きて、すわってわたしのしかの肉を食べ、あなたみずからわたしを祝福してください」。

²⁰And Isaac said to his son, How is it that thou hast found [it] so quickly, my son? And he said, Because Jehovah thy God put [it] in my way.

²⁰イサクはその子に言った、「子よ、どうしてあなたはこんなに早く手に入れたのか」。彼は言った、「あなたの神、主がわたしにしあわせを授けられたからです」。

²¹And Isaac said to Jacob, Come near, I pray thee, that I may feel thee, my son, whether thou be really my son Esau or not.

²¹イサクはヤコブに言った、「子よ、近寄りなさい。わたしは、さわってみて、あなたが確かにわが子エサウであるかどうかをみよう」。

²²And Jacob drew near to Isaac his father; and he felt him, and said, The voice is Jacob's voice, but the hands are the hands of Esau.

²²ヤコブが、父イサクに近寄ったので、イサクは彼にさわってみて言った、「声はヤコブの声だが、手はエサウの手だ」。

²³And he did not discern him, because his hands were hairy, as his brother Esau's hands; and he blessed him.

²³ヤコブの手が兄エサウの手のように毛深かったため、イサクはヤコブを見わけることができなかったので、彼を祝福した。

²⁴And he said, Art thou really my son Esau? And he said, It is I.

²⁴イサクは言った、「あなたは確かにわが子エサウですか」。彼は言った、「そうです」。

²⁵And he said, Bring [it] near to me, that I may eat of my son's venison, in order that my soul may bless thee. And he brought [it] near to him, and he ate; and he brought him wine, and he drank.

²⁵イサクは言った、「わたしの所へ持ってきなさい。わが子のしかの肉を食べて、わたしみずから、あなたを祝福しよう」。ヤコブがそれを彼の所に持ってきたので、彼は食べた。またぶどう酒を持ってきたので、彼は飲んだ。

²⁶And his father Isaac said to him, Come near, now, and kiss me, my son.

²⁶そして父イサクは彼に言った、「子よ、さあ、近寄ってわたしに口づけしなさい」。

²⁷And he came near, and kissed him. And he smelt the smell of his clothes, and blessed him, and said, See, the smell of my son is as the smell of a field which Jehovah hath blessed.

²⁷彼が近寄って口づけした時、イサクはその着物のかおりをかぎ、彼を祝福して言った、「ああ、わが子のかおりは、主が祝福された野のかおりのようだ。

²⁸And God give thee of the dew of heaven, And of the fatness of the earth, And plenty of corn and new wine.

²⁸どうか神が、天の露と、地の肥えたところと、多くの穀物と、新しいぶどう酒とをあなたに賜わるように。

²⁹Let peoples serve thee, And races bow down to thee. Be lord over thy brethren, And let thy mother's sons bow down to thee. Cursed be they that curse thee, And blessed be they that bless thee.

²⁹もろもろの民はあなたに仕え、もろもろの国はあなたに身をかがめる。あなたは兄弟たちの主となり、あなたの母の子らは、あなたに身をかがめるであろう。あなたをのろう者はのろわれ、あなたを祝福する者は祝福される」。

³⁰And it came to pass when Isaac had ended blessing Jacob, and when Jacob was only just gone out from Isaac his father, that Esau his brother came from his hunting.

³⁰イサクがヤコブを祝福し終って、ヤコブが父イサクの前から出て行くとすぐ、兄エサウが狩から帰ってきた。

³¹And he also had prepared savoury dishes, and he brought [them] in to his father, and said to his father, Let my father arise and eat of his son's venison, in order that thy soul may bless me.

³¹彼もまたおいしい食べ物を作って、父の所に持ってきて、言った、「父よ、起きてあなたの子のしかの肉を食べ、あなたみずから、わたしを祝福してください」。

³²And Isaac his father said to him, Who art thou? And he said, I am thy son, thy firstborn, Esau.

³²父イサクは彼に言った、「あなたは、だれか」。彼は言った、「わたしはあなたの子、長子エサウです」。

³³Then Isaac trembled with exceeding great trembling, and said, Who was he, then, that hunted venison and brought [it] to me? And I have eaten of all before thou camest, and have blessed him; also blessed he shall be.

³³イサクは激しくふるえて言った、「それでは、あのしかの肉を取って、わたしに持ってきた者はだれか。わたしはあなたが来る前に、みんな食べて彼を祝福した。ゆえに彼が祝福を得るであろう」。

³⁴When Esau heard the words of his father, he cried with a great and exceeding bitter cry, and said to his father, Bless me -- me also, my father!

³⁴エサウは父の言葉を聞いた時、大声をあげ、激しく叫んで、父に言った、「父よ、わたしを、わたしをも祝福してください」。

³⁵And he said, Thy brother came with subtilty, and has taken away thy blessing.

³⁵イサクは言った、「あなたの弟が偽ってやってきて、あなたの祝福を奪ってしまった」。

³⁶And he said, Is it not therefore he was named Jacob, for he has supplanted me now twice? He took away my birthright, and behold, now he has taken away my blessing. And he said, Hast thou not reserved a blessing for me?

³⁶エサウは言った、「よくもヤコブと名づけたものだ。彼は二度までもわたしをおしのけた。さきには、わたしの長子の特権を奪い、こんどはわたしの祝福を奪った」。また言った、「あなたはわたしのために祝福を残しておかれませんでしたか」。

³⁷And Isaac answered and said to Esau, Behold, I have made him lord over thee, and all his brethren have I given to him for servants, and with corn and new wine have I supplied him -- and what can I do now for thee, my son?

³⁷イサクは答えてエサウに言った、「わたしは彼をあなたの主人とし、兄弟たちを皆しもべとして彼に与え、また穀物とぶどう酒を彼に授けた。わが子よ、今となっては、あなたのために何ができようか」。

³⁸And Esau said to his father, Hast thou then but one blessing, my father? bless me -- me also, my father! And Esau lifted up his voice and wept.

³⁸エサウは父に言った、「父よ、あなたの祝福はただ一つだけですか。父よ、わたしを、わたしをも祝福してください」。エサウは声をあげて泣いた。

³⁹And Isaac his father answered and said to him, Behold, thy dwelling shall be of the fatness of the earth, And of the dew of heaven from above;

³⁹父イサクは答えて彼に言った、「あなたのすみかは地の肥えた所から離れ、また上なる天の露から離れるであろう。

⁴⁰And by thy sword shalt thou live; And thou shalt serve thy brother; And it shall come to pass when thou rovest about, That thou shalt break his yoke from off thy neck.

⁴⁰あなたはつるぎをもって世を渡り、あなたの弟に仕えるであろう。しかし、あなたが勇み立つ時、首から、そのくびきを振り落すであろう」。

⁴¹And Esau hated Jacob because of the blessing with which his father had blessed him. And Esau said in his heart, The days of mourning for my father are at hand, and I will slay my brother Jacob.

⁴¹こうしてエサウは父がヤコブに与えた祝福のゆえにヤコブを憎んだ。エサウは心の内で言った、「父の喪の日も遠くはないであろう。その時、弟ヤコブを殺そう」。

⁴²And the words of Esau her elder son were told to Rebecca. And she sent and called Jacob her younger son, and said to him, Behold, thy brother Esau, as touching thee, comforts himself that he will kill thee.

⁴²しかしリベカは長子エサウのこの言葉を人づてに聞いたので、人をやり、弟ヤコブを呼んで言った、「兄エサウはあなたを殺そうと考えて、みずから慰めています。

⁴³And now, my son, hearken to my voice, and arise, flee to Laban my brother, to Haran;

⁴³子よ、今わたしの言葉に従って、すぐハランにいるわたしの兄ラバンのもとにのがれ、

⁴⁴and abide with him some days, until thy brother's fury turn away --

⁴⁴あなたの兄の怒りが解けるまで、しばらく彼の所にいなさい。

⁴⁵until thy brother's anger turn away from thee, and he forget what thou hast done to him; then I will send and fetch thee thence. Why should I be bereaved even of you both in one day?

⁴⁵兄の憤りが解けて、あなたのした事を兄が忘れるようになったならば、わたしは人をやって、あなたをそこから迎えましょう。どうして、わたしは一日のうちにあなたがたふたりを失ってよいでしょうか」。リベカはイサクに言った、「わたしはヘテびとの娘どものことで、生きているのがいやになりました。もしヤコブがこの地の、あの娘どものようなヘテびとの娘を妻にめとるなら、わたしは生きていて、何になりましょう」。

⁴⁶And Rebecca said to Isaac, I am weary of my life because of the daughters of Heth. If Jacob take a wife of the daughters of Heth, such as these, of the daughters of the land, what good should my life do me?

⁴⁶リベカはイサクに言った、「わたしはヘテびとの娘どものことで、生きているのがいやになりました。もしヤコブがこの地の、あの娘どものようなヘテびとの娘を妻にめとるなら、わたしは生きていて、何になりましょう」。
