¹Woe unto them that decree iniquitous decrees, and to the writers that prescribe oppression,

¹わざわいなるかな、不義の判決を下す者、暴虐の宣告を書きしるす者。

²to turn away the poor from judgment, and to take away the right from the afflicted of my people; that widows may be their prey, and that they may rob the fatherless!

²彼らは乏しい者の訴えを引き受けず、わが民のうちの貧しい者の権利をはぎ、寡婦の資産を奪い、みなしごのものをかすめる。

³And what will ye do in the day of visitation, and in the sudden destruction [which] shall come from far? To whom will ye flee for help, and where will ye leave your glory?

³あなたがたは刑罰の日がきたなら、何をしようとするのか。大風が遠くから来るとき、何をしようとするのか。あなたがたはのがれていって、だれに助けを求めようとするのか。また、どこにあなたがたの富を残そうとするのか。

⁴They can but crouch under the prisoners, and they shall fall under the slain. For all this his anger is not turned away, and his hand is stretched out still.

⁴ただ捕われた者の中にかがみ、殺された者の中に伏し倒れるのみだ。それでも主の怒りはやまず、なおも、そのみ手を伸ばされる。

⁵Ah! the Assyrian! the rod of mine anger! and the staff in their hand is mine indignation.

⁵ああ、アッスリヤはわが怒りのつえ、わが憤りのむちだ。

⁶I will send him against a hypocritical nation, and against the people of my wrath will I give him a charge; to take the spoil, and to seize the prey, and to tread them down like the mire of the streets.

⁶わたしは彼をつかわして不信の国を攻め、彼に命じてわが怒りの民を攻め、かすめ奪わせ、彼らをちまたの泥のように踏みにじらせる。

⁷But he meaneth not so, neither doth his heart think so; for it is in his heart to extirpate and cut off nations not a few.

⁷しかし彼はそのようには思わず、その心もそのようには考えず、かえってその心は滅ぼすことを思い、あまたの国々を倒そうとする。

⁸For he saith, Are not my princes all kings?

⁸彼は言う、「わが諸侯はみな王ではないか。

⁹Is not Calno as Karkemish? Is not Hamath as Arpad? Is not Samaria as Damascus?

⁹カルノはカルケミシのようではないか。ハマテはアルパデのようではないか。サマリヤはダマスコのようではないか。

¹⁰As my hand hath found the kingdoms of the idols, -- and their graven images exceeded those of Jerusalem and Samaria,

¹⁰わが手は偶像に仕える国々に伸びた。その彫った像はエルサレムおよびサマリヤのものにまさっていた。

¹¹-- shall I not, as I have done unto Samaria and her idols, so do to Jerusalem and her images?

¹¹わたしはサマリヤとその偶像に行ったように、エルサレムとその偶像に行わぬであろうか」。

¹²And it shall come to pass, when the Lord hath performed his whole work upon mount Zion and upon Jerusalem, I will punish the fruit of the stoutness of heart of the king of Assyria, and the glory of his high looks.

¹²主がシオンの山とエルサレムとになそうとすることを、ことごとくなし遂げられた時、主はアッスリヤ王の無礼な言葉と、その高ぶりとを罰せられる。

¹³For he saith, By the strength of my hand I have done [it], and by my wisdom, for I am intelligent; and I have removed the bounds of the peoples, and have robbed their treasures, and, like a valiant man, I have brought down them that sit [on thrones];

¹³彼は言う、「わが手の力により、またわが知恵によって、わたしはこれをなした。わたしは賢いからである。わたしはもろもろの民の境を除き、その財宝を奪った。またわたしは雄牛のように、位に座する者を引きおろした。

¹⁴and my hand hath found as a nest the riches of the peoples, and as one gathereth forsaken eggs, have I gathered all the earth; and there was none that moved the wing, or opened the mouth, or chirped.

¹⁴わが手は巣を取るように、もろもろの民の富を得た。またわたしは人々が捨てられた卵を集めるように、全地を取り集めた。あるいは翼を動かし、あるいは口を開き、あるいはぺちゃくちゃ言う者もなかった」。

¹⁵-- Shall the axe boast itself against him that heweth therewith? shall the saw magnify itself against him that wieldeth it? As if the rod should wield them that lift it up; as if the staff should lift up [him who is] not wood!

¹⁵おのは、それを用いて切る者にむかって、自分を誇ることができようか。のこぎりは、それを動かす者にむかって、みずから高ぶることができようか。これはあたかも、むちが自分をあげる者を動かし、つえが木でない者をあげようとするのに等しい。

¹⁶Therefore shall the Lord, Jehovah of hosts, send among his fat ones leanness, and under his glory he shall kindle a burning, like the burning of a fire:

¹⁶それゆえ、主、万軍の主は、その肥えた勇士の中に病気を送って衰えさせ、その栄光の下に火の燃えるような炎を燃やされる。

¹⁷and the light of Israel shall be for a fire, and his Holy One for a flame; and it shall burn and devour his thorns and his briars in one day,

¹⁷イスラエルの光は火となり、その聖者は炎となり、そのいばらと、おどろとを一日のうちに焼き滅ぼす。

¹⁸and it shall consume the glory of his forest, and of his fruitful field, both soul and body; and they shall be as when a sick man fainteth.

¹⁸また、その林と土肥えた田畑の栄えを、魂も、からだも二つながら滅ぼし、病める者のやせ衰える時のようにされる。

¹⁹And the remainder of the trees of his forest shall be few: yea, a child might write them.

¹⁹その林の木の残りのものはわずかであって、わらべもそれを書きとめることができる。

²⁰And it shall come to pass in that day, [that] the remnant of Israel and such as are escaped of the house of Jacob shall no more again rely upon him that smote them; but they shall rely upon Jehovah, the Holy One of Israel, in truth.

²⁰その日にはイスラエルの残りの者と、ヤコブの家の生き残った者とは、もはや自分たちを撃った者にたよらず、真心をもってイスラエルの聖者、主にたより、

²¹The remnant shall return, the remnant of Jacob, unto the mighty ùGod.

²¹残りの者、すなわちヤコブの残りの者は大能の神に帰る。

²²For though thy people Israel be as the sand of the sea, [only] a remnant of them shall return: the consumption determined shall overflow in righteousness.

²²あなたの民イスラエルは海の砂のようであっても、そのうちの残りの者だけが帰って来る。滅びはすでに定まり、義であふれている。

²³For a consumption, and [one] determined, will the Lord, Jehovah of hosts, accomplish in the midst of all the land.

²³主、万軍の主は定められた滅びを全地に行われる。

²⁴Therefore thus saith the Lord, Jehovah of hosts: O my people that dwellest in Zion, be not afraid of the Assyrian; he shall smite thee with a rod, and shall lift up his staff against thee, after the manner of Egypt:

²⁴それゆえ、主、万軍の主はこう言われる、「シオンに住むわが民よ、アッスリヤびとが、エジプトびとがしたように、むちをもってあなたを打ち、つえをあげてあなたをせめても、彼らを恐れてはならない。

²⁵for yet a very little while, and the indignation shall be accomplished, and mine anger, in their destruction.

²⁵ただしばらくして、わが憤りはやみ、わが怒りは彼らを滅ぼすからである。

²⁶And Jehovah of hosts will stir up a scourge against him, according to the slaughter of Midian at the rock of Oreb; and his rod [shall be] upon the sea, and he will lift it up after the manner of Egypt.

²⁶万軍の主は、むかしミデアンびとをオレブの岩で撃たれた時のように、彼らにむかって、むちをふるわれる。またそのつえを海の上にのばし、エジプトでなされたように、それをあげられる。

²⁷And it shall come to pass in that day, [that] his burden shall be taken away from off thy shoulder, and his yoke from off thy neck; and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing. ...

²⁷その日には、彼の重荷はあなたの肩からおり、彼のくびきはあなたの首から離れる」。彼はリンモンから上り、

²⁸He is come to Aiath, he hath passed through Migron; at Michmash he layeth up his baggage.

²⁸アイアテにきたり、ミグロンを過ぎ、ミクマシでその行李をとどめ、

²⁹They are gone through the pass; they make their lodging at Geba: Ramah trembleth, Gibeah of Saul is fled.

²⁹渡しを過ぎて、ゲバに宿る。ラマはおののき、サウルのギベアは逃げ去った。

³⁰Lift up thy voice, daughter of Gallim! Hearken, O Laish! -- Poor Anathoth!

³⁰ガリムの娘よ、声をあげて叫べ。ライシよ、耳を傾けよ。アナトテよ、彼に答えよ。

³¹Madmenah is fugitive; the inhabitants of Gebim take to flight.

³¹マデメナは逃げ去り、ゲビムの民は隠れ場を求めた。

³²Still a day of halting at Nob; he shaketh his hand [against] the mount of the daughter of Zion, the hill of Jerusalem. ...

³²この日彼はノブに立ちとどまり、シオンの娘の山、エルサレムの丘にむかって、その手を振る。

³³Behold the Lord, Jehovah of hosts, shall lop the boughs with violence; and the high ones of stature shall be hewn down, and the haughty shall be brought low;

³³見よ、主、万軍の主は、恐ろしい力をもって枝を切りおろされる。たけの高いものも切り落され、そびえ立つものは低くされる。主はおのをもって茂りあう林を切られる。みごとな木の茂るレバノンも倒される。

³⁴and he shall make clearings in the thickets of the forest with iron; and Lebanon shall fall by a mighty one.
