¹Behold, Jehovah maketh the land empty, and maketh it waste, and turneth it upside down, and scattereth abroad its inhabitants.

¹見よ、主はこの地をむなしくし、これを荒れすたれさせ、これをくつがえして、その民を散らされる。

²And it shall be, as with the people, so with the priest; as with the servant, so with his master; as with the maid, so with her mistress; as with the buyer, so with the seller; as with the lender, so with the borrower; as with the taker of usury, so with him from whom usury is taken.

²そして、その民も祭司もひとしく、しもべも主人もひとしく、はしためも主婦もひとしく、買う者も売る者もひとしく、貸す者も借りる者もひとしく、債権者も債務者もひとしく、この事にあう。

³The land shall be utterly emptied, and utterly spoiled; for Jehovah hath spoken this word.

³地は全くむなしくされ、全くかすめられる。主がこの言葉を告げられたからである。

⁴The land mourneth, it fadeth away; the world languisheth, it fadeth away: the haughty people of the land do languish.

⁴地は悲しみ、衰え、世はしおれ、衰え、天も地と共にしおれはてる。

⁵And the land is polluted under the inhabitants thereof; for they have violated the laws, changed the statute, broken the everlasting covenant.

⁵地はその住む民の下に汚された。これは彼らが律法にそむき、定めを犯し、とこしえの契約を破ったからだ。

⁶Therefore doth the curse devour the earth, and they that dwell therein are held guilty; therefore the inhabitants of the earth are consumed, and few men are left.

⁶それゆえ、のろいは地をのみつくし、そこに住む者はその罪に苦しみ、また地の民は焼かれて、わずかの者が残される。

⁷The new wine mourneth, the vine languisheth, all that were merry-hearted do sigh;

⁷新しいぶどう酒は悲しみ、ぶどうはしおれ、心の楽しい者もみな嘆く。

⁸the mirth of tambours ceaseth, the noise of them that rejoice endeth, the joy of the harp ceaseth.

⁸鼓の音は静まり、喜ぶ者の騒ぎはやみ、琴の音もまた静まった。

⁹They do not drink wine with a song; strong drink is bitter to them that drink it.

⁹彼らはもはや歌をうたって酒を飲まず、濃き酒はこれを飲む者に苦くなる。

¹⁰The city of solitude is broken down; every house is shut up, so that none entereth in.

¹⁰混乱せる町は破られ、すべての家は閉ざされて、はいることができない。

¹¹There is a crying for wine in the streets; all joy is darkened, the mirth of the land is gone;

¹¹ちまたには酒の不足のために叫ぶ声があり、すべての喜びは暗くなり、地の楽しみは追いやられた。

¹²desolation remaineth in the city, and the gate is smitten, -- a ruin.

¹²町には荒れすたれた所のみ残り、その門もこわされて破れた。

¹³For so will it be in the midst of the land among the peoples, as the shaking of an olive-tree, as the grape-gleanings when the vintage is done.

¹³地のうちで、もろもろの民のなかで残るものは、オリブの木の打たれた後の実のように、ぶどうの収穫の終った後にその採り残りを集めるときのようになる。

¹⁴These shall lift up their voice, they shall shout for the majesty of Jehovah, they shall cry aloud from the sea.

¹⁴彼らは声をあげて喜び歌う。主の威光のゆえに、西から喜び呼ばわる。

¹⁵Therefore glorify Jehovah in the east, the name of Jehovah, the God of Israel, in the isles of the west.

¹⁵それゆえ、東で主をあがめ、海沿いの国々でイスラエルの神、主の名をあがめよ。

¹⁶From the end of the earth have we heard songs: Glory to the righteous! And I said, My leanness, my leanness, woe unto me! The treacherous have dealt treacherously; yea, the treacherous have dealt very treacherously.

¹⁶われわれは地の果から、さんびの歌を聞いた、「栄光は正しい者にある」と。しかし、わたしは言う、「わたしはやせ衰える、わたしはやせ衰える、わたしはわざわいだ。欺く者はあざむき、欺く者は、はなはだしくあざむく」。

¹⁷Fear, and the pit, and the snare are upon thee, inhabitant of the land.

¹⁷地に住む者よ、恐れと、落し穴と、わなとはあなたの上にある。

¹⁸And it shall come to pass, [that] he who fleeth from the sound of the fear shall fall into the pit; and he that cometh up out of the midst of the pit shall be taken in the snare; for the windows on high are open, and the foundations of the earth shake.

¹⁸恐れの声をのがれる者は落し穴に陥り、落し穴から出る者はわなに捕えられる。天の窓は開け、地の基が震い動くからである。

¹⁹The earth is utterly broken down, the earth is completely dissolved, the earth is violently moved.

¹⁹地は全く砕け、地は裂け、地は激しく震い、

²⁰The earth reeleth to and fro like a drunkard, and is shaken like a night hut; and its transgression is heavy upon it; and it falleth and shall not rise again.

²⁰地は酔いどれのようによろめき、仮小屋のようにゆり動く。そのとがはその上に重く、ついに倒れて再び起きあがることはない。

²¹And it shall come to pass in that day, [that] Jehovah will punish the host of the high ones on high, and the kings of the earth upon the earth.

²¹その日、主は天において、天の軍勢を罰し、地の上で、地のもろもろの王を罰せられる。

²²And they shall be brought together, [as] an assemblage of prisoners for the pit, and shall be shut up in prison, and after many days shall they be visited.

²²彼らは囚人が土ろうの中に集められるように集められて、獄屋の中に閉ざされ、多くの日を経て後、罰せられる。こうして万軍の主がシオンの山およびエルサレムで統べ治め、かつその長老たちの前にその栄光をあらわされるので、月はあわて、日は恥じる。

²³And the moon shall be confounded, and the sun ashamed; for Jehovah of hosts shall reign on mount Zion, and in Jerusalem, and before his ancients in glory.

²³こうして万軍の主がシオンの山およびエルサレムで統べ治め、かつその長老たちの前にその栄光をあらわされるので、月はあわて、日は恥じる。
