¹For behold, the Lord, Jehovah of hosts, will take away from Jerusalem and from Judah stay and staff, the whole stay of bread, and the whole stay of water,

¹見よ、主、万軍の主はエルサレムとユダからささえとなり、頼みとなるもの――すべてささえとなるパン、すべてささえとなる水――を取り去られる。

²the mighty man and the man of war, the judge and the prophet, and the diviner and the elder,

²すなわち勇士と軍人、裁判官と預言者、占い師と長老、

³the captain of fifty, and the honourable man, and the counsellor, and the clever among artificers, and the one versed in enchantments.

³五十人の長と身分の高い人、議官と巧みな魔術師、老練なまじない師を取り去られる。

⁴And I will appoint youths as their princes, and children shall rule over them.

⁴わたしはわらべを立てて彼らの君とし、みどりごに彼らを治めさせる。

⁵And the people shall be oppressed one by the other, and each by his neighbour; the child will be insolent against the elder, and the base against the honourable.

⁵民は互に相しえたげ、人はおのおのその隣をしえたげ、若い者は老いたる者にむかって高ぶり、卑しい者は尊い者にむかって高ぶる。

⁶When a man shall take hold of his brother, in his father's house, [and shall say:] Thou hast clothing; be our chief, and let this ruin be under thy hand;

⁶その時、人はその父の家で、兄弟をつかまえて言う、「あなたは外套を持っている、わたしたちのつかさびとになって、この荒れ跡をあなたの手で治めてください」と。

⁷he will lift up [his hand] in that day, saying, I cannot be a healer, and in my house there is neither bread nor clothing; ye shall not make me a chief of the people.

⁷その日、彼は声をあげて言う、「わたしはいやす者となることはできません、わたしの家にはパンもなく、外套もありません、わたしを立てて、民のつかさびとにしないでください」。

⁸For Jerusalem stumbleth and Judah falleth, because their tongue and their doings are against Jehovah, to provoke the eyes of his glory.

⁸これは彼らの言葉と行いとが主にそむき、その栄光の目をおかしたので、エルサレムはつまずき、ユダは倒れたからである。

⁹The look of their face doth witness against them, and they declare their sin as Sodom: they hide it not. Woe unto their soul! for they have brought evil upon themselves.

⁹彼らの不公平は彼らにむかって不利なあかしをし、ソドムのようにその罪をあらわして隠さない。わざわいなるかな、彼らはみずから悪の報いをうけた。

¹⁰Say ye of the righteous that it shall be well [with him], for they shall eat the fruit of their doings.

¹⁰正しい人に言え、彼らはさいわいであると。彼らはその行いの実を食べるからである。

¹¹Woe unto the wicked! it shall be ill [with him], because the desert of his hands shall be rendered unto him.

¹¹悪しき者はわざわいだ、彼は災をうける。その手のなした事が彼に報いられるからである。

¹²[As for] my people, children are their oppressors, and women rule over them. My people! they that guide thee mislead [thee], and destroy the way of thy paths.

¹²わが民は幼な子にしえたげられ、女たちに治められる。ああ、わが民よ、あなたを導く者はかえって、あなたを迷わせ、あなたの行くべき道を混乱させる。

¹³Jehovah setteth himself to plead, and standeth to judge the peoples.

¹³主は言い争うために立ちあがり、その民をさばくために立たれる。

¹⁴Jehovah will enter into judgment with the elders of his people and their princes, [saying:] It is ye that have eaten up the vineyard: the spoil of the poor is in your houses.

¹⁴主はその民の長老と君たちとをさばいて、「あなたがたは、ぶどう畑を食い荒した。貧しい者からかすめとった物は、あなたがたの家にある。

¹⁵What mean ye that ye crush my people, and grind the faces of the afflicted? saith the Lord, Jehovah of hosts.

¹⁵なぜ、あなたがたはわが民を踏みにじり、貧しい者の顔をすり砕くのか」と万軍の神、主は言われる。

¹⁶And Jehovah said, Because the daughters of Zion are haughty, and walk with stretched-out neck and wanton eyes, and go along mincing, and making a tinkling with their feet;

¹⁶主は言われた、シオンの娘らは高ぶり、首をのばしてあるき、目でこびをおくり、その行くとき気どって歩き、その足でりんりんと鳴り響かす。

¹⁷therefore the Lord will make bald the crown of the head of the daughters of Zion, and Jehovah will lay bare their secret parts.

¹⁷それゆえ、主はシオンの娘らの頭を撃って、かさぶたでおおい、彼らの隠れた所をあらわされる。

¹⁸In that day the Lord will take away the ornament of anklets, and the little suns and crescents,

¹⁸その日、主は彼らの美しい装身具と服装すなわち、くるぶし輪、髪ひも、月形の飾り、

¹⁹the pearl-drops, and the bracelets, and the veils,

¹⁹耳輪、腕輪、顔おおい、

²⁰the head-dresses, and the stepping chains, and the girdles, and the scent-boxes, and the amulets;

²⁰頭飾り、すね飾り、飾り帯、香箱、守り袋、

²¹the finger-rings, and the nose-rings;

²¹指輪、鼻輪、

²²the festival-robes, and the tunics, and the mantles, and the wallets;

²²礼服、外套、肩掛、手さげ袋、

²³the mirrors, and the fine linen bodices, and the turbans, and the flowing veils.

²³薄織の上着、亜麻布の着物、帽子、被衣などを取り除かれる。

²⁴And it shall come to pass, instead of perfume there shall be rottenness; and instead of a girdle, a rope; and instead of well-set hair, baldness; and instead of a robe of display, a girding of sackcloth; brand instead of beauty.

²⁴芳香はかわって、悪臭となり、帯はかわって、なわとなり、よく編んだ髪はかわって、かぶろとなり、はなやかな衣はかわって、荒布の衣となり、美しい顔はかわって、焼き印された顔となる。

²⁵Thy men shall fall by the sword, and thy mighty in the fight;

²⁵あなたの男たちはつるぎに倒れ、あなたの勇士たちは戦いに倒れる。シオンの門は嘆き悲しみ、シオンは荒れすたれて、地に座する。

²⁶and her gates shall lament and mourn; and, stripped, she shall sit upon the ground.
