¹Woe to thee that spoilest, and thou wast not spoiled; and that dealest treacherously, and they dealt not treacherously with thee! When thou shalt cease to spoil, thou shalt be spoiled; when thou shalt make an end of dealing treacherously, they shall deal treacherously with thee.

¹わざわいなるかな、おのれ自ら滅ぼされないのに、人を滅ぼし、だれも欺かないのに人を欺く者よ。あなたが滅ぼすことをやめたとき、あなたは滅ぼされ、あなたが欺くことを終えたとき、あなたは欺かれる。

²Jehovah, be gracious unto us; we have waited for thee: be their arm every morning, yea, our salvation in the time of trouble.

²主よ、われわれをお恵みください、われわれはあなたを待ち望む。朝ごとに、われわれの腕となり、悩みの時に、救となってください。

³At the noise of the tumult the peoples fled; at the lifting up of thyself the nations were scattered.

³鳴りとどろく声によって、もろもろの民は逃げ去り、あなたが立ちあがられると、もろもろの国は散らされる。

⁴And your spoil shall be gathered [like] the gathering of the caterpillar: as the running of locusts shall they run upon it.

⁴青虫が物を集めるようにぶんどり品は集められ、いなごのとびつどうように、人々はその上にとびつどう。

⁵Jehovah is exalted; for he dwelleth on high: he hath filled Zion with justice and righteousness;

⁵主は高くいらせられ、高い所に住まわれる。主はシオンに公平と正義とを満たされる。

⁶and he shall be the stability of thy times, the riches of salvation, wisdom and knowledge: the fear of Jehovah shall be your treasure.

⁶また主は救と知恵と知識を豊かにして、あなたの代を堅く立てられる。主を恐れることはその宝である。

⁷Behold, their valiant ones cry without; the messengers of peace weep bitterly.

⁷見よ、勇士たちは外にあって叫び、平和の使者はいたく嘆く。

⁸The highways are desolate, the wayfaring man ceaseth. He hath broken the covenant, he hath despised the cities, he regardeth no man.

⁸大路は荒れすたれて、旅びとは絶え、契約は破られ、証人は軽んぜられ、人を顧みることがない。

⁹The land mourneth, it languisheth; Lebanon is ashamed, is withered; the Sharon is become as a desert, and Bashan and Carmel are stripped.

⁹地は嘆き衰え、レバノンは恥じて枯れ、シャロンは荒野のようになり、バシャンとカルメルはその葉を落す。

¹⁰Now will I arise, saith Jehovah; now will I be exalted, now will I lift up myself.

¹⁰主は言われる、「今わたしは起きよう、いま立ちあがろう、いま自らを高くしよう。

¹¹Ye shall conceive dry grass, ye shall bring forth stubble: your breath shall devour you [as] fire.

¹¹あなたがたは、もみがらをはらみ、わらを産む。あなたがたの息は火となって、あなたがたを食いつくす。

¹²And the peoples shall be [as] burnings of lime, [as] thorns cut up shall they be burned in the fire.

¹²もろもろの民は焼かれて石灰のようになり、いばらが切られて火に燃やされたようになる」。

¹³Hear, ye that are far off, what I have done; and ye that are near, acknowledge my might.

¹³あなたがた遠くにいる者よ、わたしがおこなったことを聞け。あなたがた近くにいる者よ、わが大能を知れ。

¹⁴The sinners in Zion are afraid; trembling hath surprised the hypocrites: Who among us shall dwell with the consuming fire? who among us shall dwell with everlasting flames?

¹⁴シオンの罪びとは恐れに満たされ、おののきは神を恐れない者を捕えた。「われわれのうち、だれが焼きつくす火の中におることができよう。われわれのうち、だれがとこしえの燃える火の中におることができよう」。

¹⁵-- He that walketh righteously, and speaketh uprightly; he that despiseth the gain of oppressions, that shaketh his hands from taking hold of bribes, that stoppeth his ears from hearing of blood, and shutteth his eyes from seeing evil:

¹⁵正しく歩む者、正直に語る者、しえたげて得た利をいやしめる者、手を振って、まいないを取らない者、耳をふさいで血を流す謀略を聞かない者、目を閉じて悪を見ない者、

¹⁶he shall dwell on high, the fortresses of the rocks shall be his high retreat; bread shall be given him, his water shall be sure.

¹⁶このような人は高い所に住み、堅い岩はそのとりでとなり、そのパンは与えられ、その水は絶えることがない。

¹⁷Thine eyes shall see the King in his beauty; they shall behold the land that is far off.

¹⁷あなたの目は麗しく飾った王を見、遠く広い国を見る。

¹⁸Thy heart shall meditate on terror: Where is the scribe? where is the receiver? where is he that counted the towers?

¹⁸あなたの心はかの恐ろしかった事を思い出す。「数を調べた者はどこにいるか。みつぎを量った者はどこにいるか。やぐらを数えた者はどこにいるか」。

¹⁹Thou shalt no more see the fierce people, a people of a deeper speech than thou canst comprehend, of a stammering tongue that cannot be understood.

¹⁹あなたはもはや高慢な民を見ない。かの民の言葉はあいまいで、聞きとりがたく、その舌はどもって、悟りがたい。

²⁰Look upon Zion, the city of our solemnities: thine eyes shall see Jerusalem a quiet habitation, a tent that shall not be removed, the stakes whereof shall never be pulled up, neither shall any of its cords be broken;

²⁰定めの祭の町シオンを見よ。あなたの目は平和なすまい、移されることのない幕屋エルサレムを見る。その杭はとこしえに抜かれず、その綱は、ひとすじも断たれることはない。

²¹but there Jehovah is unto us glorious, -- a place of rivers, of broad streams: no galley with oars shall go there, neither shall gallant ship pass thereby.

²¹主は威厳をもってかしこにいまし、われわれのために広い川と流れのある所となり、その中には、こぐ舟も入らず、大きな船も過ぎることはない。

²²For Jehovah is our judge, Jehovah, our lawgiver, Jehovah, our king: he will save us.

²²主はわれわれのさばき主、主はわれわれのつかさ、主はわれわれの王であって、われわれを救われる。

²³Thy tacklings are loosed; they strengthen not the socket of their mast, they cannot spread the sail: then is the prey of a great spoil divided; the lame take the prey.

²³あなたの船綱は解けて、帆柱のもとを結びかためることができず、帆を張ることもできない。その時多くの獲物とぶんどり品は分けられ、足なえまでも獲物を取る。そこに住む者のうちには、「わたしは病気だ」と言う者はなく、そこに住む民はその罪がゆるされる。

²⁴And the inhabitant shall not say, I am sick: the people that dwell therein shall be forgiven [their] iniquity.
