¹Thus said Jehovah unto me: Go and buy thee a linen girdle, and put it upon thy loins; but dip it not in water.

¹主はわたしにこう言われた、「行って、亜麻布の帯を買い、腰に結べ。水につけてはならない」。

²And I bought a girdle according to the word of Jehovah, and put it upon my loins.

²そこで、わたしは主の言葉に従い、帯を買って腰に結んだ。

³And the word of Jehovah came unto me the second time, saying,

³主の言葉は、再びわたしに臨んで言った、

⁴Take the girdle that thou hast bought, which is upon thy loins, and arise, go to the Euphrates, and hide it there in a hole of the rock.

⁴「あなたが買って腰に結んでいる帯を手に取り、立ってユフラテの川へ行き、その所の岩の裂け目にこれを隠せ」。

⁵So I went and hid it by the Euphrates, as Jehovah had commanded me.

⁵わたしは主が命じられたように、行って、これをユフラテの川のほとりに隠した。

⁶And it came to pass at the end of many days, that Jehovah said unto me, Arise, go to the Euphrates, and take the girdle from thence which I commanded thee to hide there.

⁶多くの日を経てのち、主はわたしに言われた、「立って、ユフラテの川へ行き、あなたに命じて、そこに隠させた帯をその所から取ってきなさい」。

⁷And I went to the Euphrates, and digged, and took the girdle from the place where I had hid it; and behold, the girdle was spoiled, it was good for nothing.

⁷そこでわたしはユフラテの川へ行き、地を掘って、隠した所から帯を取り出したが、その帯はそこなわれて、役に立たなくなっていた。

⁸And the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying,

⁸その時、主の言葉がわたしに臨んだ、

⁹Thus saith Jehovah: After this manner will I spoil the pride of Judah, and the great pride of Jerusalem.

⁹「主はこう仰せられる、これと同じように、わたしはユダの高ぶりとエルサレムの大いなる高ぶりを、破るのである。

¹⁰This evil people, who refuse to hear my words, who walk in the stubbornness of their heart, and go after other gods, to serve them and to worship them, shall even be as this girdle which is good for nothing.

¹⁰この悪しき民はわたしの言葉を聞くことを拒み、自分の心を強情にして歩み、また他の神々に従ってこれに仕え、これを拝んでいる。彼らはこの帯のように、なんの役にも立たなくなる」。

¹¹For as a girdle cleaveth to the loins of a man, so have I caused to cleave unto me the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah, saith Jehovah; that they might be unto me for a people, and for a name, and for a praise, and for a glory: but they would not hear.

¹¹主は言われる、「帯が人の腰に着くように、イスラエルのすべての家とユダのすべての家とをわたしに着かせ、これをわたしの民とし、名とし、誉とし、栄えとしようとした。しかし彼らは聞き従おうともしなかった」。

¹²And thou shalt speak unto them this word: Thus saith Jehovah, the God of Israel, Every skin shall be filled with wine. And they will say unto thee, Do we not very well know that every skin shall be filled with wine?

¹²「あなたはこの言葉を彼らに語らなければならない、『イスラエルの神はこう言われる、酒つぼには、みな酒が満ちる』と。彼らはあなたに言うであろう、『酒つぼに、みな酒が満ちることをわれわれが知らないことがあろうか』と。

¹³And thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith Jehovah: Behold, I will fill all the inhabitants of this land, and the kings that sit for David upon his throne, and the priests and the prophets, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, with drunkenness.

¹³その時、あなたは彼らに言わなければならない、『主はこう言われる、見よ、わたしはこの地に住むすべての者と、ダビデの位に座す王たちと、祭司と預言者およびエルサレムに住むすべての者に酔いを満たし、

¹⁴And I will dash them one against another, both the fathers and the sons together, saith Jehovah; I will not pity, nor spare, nor have mercy so as not to destroy them.

¹⁴彼らを互に打ち当てて砕く。父と子をもそのようにすると、主は言われる。わたしは彼らをあわれまず、惜しまず、かわいそうとも思わずに滅ぼす』と」。

¹⁵Hear ye, and give ear, be not lifted up; for Jehovah hath spoken.

¹⁵耳を傾けて聞け、高ぶってはならない、主がお語りになるからである。

¹⁶Give glory to Jehovah your God, before he cause darkness, and before your feet stumble upon the mountains of twilight; and ye shall look for light, but he will turn it into the shadow of death, and make [it] gross darkness.

¹⁶主がまだやみを起されないうちに、またあなたがたの足が薄暗がりの山につまずかないうちに、あなたがたの神、主に栄光を帰せよ。さもないと、あなたがたが光を望んでいる間に、主はそれを暗黒に変え、それを暗やみとされるからである。

¹⁷And if ye will not hear it, my soul shall weep in secret places for [your] pride; and mine eye shall weep sore, and run down with tears, because Jehovah's flock is gone into captivity.

¹⁷もしあなたがたが聞かないならば、わたしの魂はひそかな所で、あなたがたの高ぶりのために悲しむ。また主の群れが、かすめられたために、わたしの目はいたく泣いて、涙を流すのである。

¹⁸Say unto the king and to the queen: Humble yourselves, sit down low; for from your heads shall come down the crown of your magnificence.

¹⁸王と太后とに告げよ、「あなたがたは低い座にすわりなさい。麗しい冠はすでにあなたがたの頭から落ちてしまったからです」。

¹⁹The cities of the south are shut up, and there is none to open [them]; all Judah is carried away captive: it is wholly carried away captive.

¹⁹ネゲブの町々は閉ざされて、これを開く人がない。ユダはみな捕え移される、ことごとく捕え移される。

²⁰Lift up your eyes, and behold them that come from the north. Where is the flock that was given thee, thy beautiful flock?

²⁰「目をあげて、北の方からくる者を見よ、あなたに賜わった群れ、あなたの麗しい群れはどこにいるのか。

²¹What wilt thou say when he shall visit thee, since thou thyself hast trained them to be princes in chief over thee? Shall not sorrows take thee, as a woman in travail?

²¹彼らがあなたの親しみ慣れた人たちを、あなたの上に立ててかしらとするとき、あなたは何を言おうとするのか。あなたの苦しみは、子を産む女の苦しみのようでないであろうか。

²²And if thou say in thy heart, Wherefore come these things upon me? For the greatness of thine iniquity are thy skirts uncovered, [and] thy heels have suffered violence.

²²あなたが心のうちに、『どうしてこのようなことがわたしに起ったのか』というならば、あなたの罪が重いゆえに、あなたの着物のすそはあげられ、はずかしめを受けるのだ。

²³Can an Ethiopian change his skin, or a leopard his spots? [Then] may ye also do good, who are accustomed to do evil.

²³エチオピヤびとはその皮膚を変えることができようか。ひょうはその斑点を変えることができようか。もしそれができるならば、悪に慣れたあなたがたも、善を行うことができる。

²⁴And I will scatter them as stubble that passeth away by the wind of the wilderness.

²⁴わたしはあなたがたを散らし、野の風に吹き散らされるもみがらのようにする。

²⁵This shall be thy lot, thy measured portion from me, saith Jehovah; because thou hast forgotten me, and confided in falsehood.

²⁵主は言われる、これがあなたに授けられた定め、わたしが量ってあなたに与える分である。あなたがわたしを忘れて、偽りを頼みとしたからだ。

²⁶Therefore will I also turn thy skirts over thy face, and thy shame shall be seen.

²⁶わたしはまたあなたの着物のすそを顔まであげて、あなたの恥をあらわす。わたしはあなたの憎むべき行い、あなたの姦淫と、いななき、野の丘の上で行ったあなたのみだらな行いを見た。エルサレムよ、あなたはわざわいだ、あなたの清められるのはいつのことであろうか」。

²⁷Thine adulteries, and thy neighings, the lewdness of thy fornication, on the hills, in the fields, -- thine abominations, have I seen. Woe unto thee, Jerusalem! Wilt thou not be made clean? after how long a time yet?

²⁷わたしはあなたの憎むべき行い、あなたの姦淫と、いななき、野の丘の上で行ったあなたのみだらな行いを見た。エルサレムよ、あなたはわざわいだ、あなたの清められるのはいつのことであろうか」。
