¹And Pashur the son of Immer, the priest -- and he was chief officer in the house of Jehovah -- heard Jeremiah prophesy these things.

¹さて祭司インメルの子で、主の宮のつかさの長であったパシュルは、エレミヤがこれらの事を預言するのを聞いた。

²And Pashur smote Jeremiah the prophet, and put him in the stocks that were in the upper gate of Benjamin, which was in the house of Jehovah.

²そしてパシュルは預言者エレミヤを打ち、主の宮にある上のベニヤミンの門の足かせにつないだ。

³And it came to pass the next day, that Pashur brought forth Jeremiah out of the stocks; and Jeremiah said unto him, Jehovah hath not called thy name Pashur, but Magor-missabib.

³その翌日パシュルがエレミヤを足かせから解き放した時、エレミヤは彼に言った、「主はあなたの名をパシュルとは呼ばないで、『恐れが周囲にある』と呼ばれる。

⁴For thus saith Jehovah: Behold, I make thee a terror to thyself, and to all thy friends; and they shall fall by the sword of their enemies, and thine eyes shall see [it]; and I will give all Judah into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall carry them captive into Babylon, and shall smite them with the sword.

⁴主はこう仰せられる、見よ、わたしはあなたを、あなた自身とあなたのすべての友だちに恐れを起させる者とする。彼らはあなたが見ている目の前で敵のつるぎに倒れる。わたしはまたユダのすべての民をバビロン王の手に渡す。彼は彼らを捕えてバビロンに移し、つるぎをもって殺す。

⁵And, I will give all the wealth of this city, and all its gains, and all its precious things, and all the treasures of the kings of Judah, will I give into the hand of their enemies; and they shall make them a prey, and take them, and carry them to Babylon.

⁵わたしはまたこの町のすべての富と、その獲たすべての物と、そのすべての貴重な物と、ユダの王たちのすべての宝物をその敵の手に渡す。彼らはこれをかすめ、民を捕えてバビロンに移す。

⁶And thou, Pashur, and all that dwell in thy house shall go into captivity; and thou shalt come to Babylon, and there thou shalt die, and there thou shalt be buried, thou and all thy friends to whom thou hast prophesied falsehood.

⁶パシュルよ、あなたと、あなたの家に住む者とはみな捕え移される。あなたはバビロンに行って、その所で死に、その所に葬られる。あなたも、あなたが偽って預言した言葉に聞き従った友もみなそのようになる」。

⁷Jehovah, thou hast enticed me, and I was enticed; thou hast laid hold of me, and hast prevailed; I am become a derision the whole day: every one mocketh me.

⁷主よ、あなたがわたしを欺かれたので、わたしはその欺きに従いました。あなたはわたしよりも強いので、わたしを説き伏せられたのです。わたしは一日中、物笑いとなり、人はみなわたしをあざけります。

⁸For as oft as I speak, I cry out; I proclaim violence and spoil; for the word of Jehovah is become unto me a reproach and a derision all the day.

⁸それは、わたしが語り、呼ばわるごとに、「暴虐、滅亡」と叫ぶからです。主の言葉が一日中、わが身のはずかしめと、あざけりになるからです。

⁹And I said, I will not make mention of him, nor speak any more in his name: but it was in my heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones; and I became wearied with holding in, and I could not.

⁹もしわたしが、「主のことは、重ねて言わない、このうえその名によって語る事はしない」と言えば、主の言葉がわたしの心にあって、燃える火のわが骨のうちに閉じこめられているようで、それを押えるのに疲れはてて、耐えることができません。

¹⁰For I have heard the defaming of many, terror on every side: Report, and we will report it. All my familiars are watching for my stumbling: Peradventure he will be enticed, and we shall prevail against him; and we shall take our revenge on him.

¹⁰多くの人のささやくのを聞くからです。恐れが四方にあります。「告発せよ。さあ、彼を告発しよう」と言って、わが親しい友は皆わたしのつまずくのを、うかがっています。また、「彼は欺かれるだろう。そのとき、われわれは彼に勝って、あだを返すことができる」と言います。

¹¹But Jehovah is with me as a mighty terrible one; therefore my persecutors shall stumble and shall not prevail; they shall be greatly ashamed, for they have not prospered: it shall be an everlasting confusion that shall not be forgotten.

¹¹しかし主は強い勇士のようにわたしと共におられる。それゆえ、わたしに迫りくる者はつまずき、わたしに打ち勝つことはできない。彼らは、なし遂げることができなくて、大いに恥をかく。その恥は、いつまでも忘れられることはない。

¹²And thou, Jehovah of hosts, who triest the righteous, who seest the reins and the heart, let me see thy vengeance on them; for unto thee have I revealed my cause.

¹²正しき者を試み、人の心と思いを見られる万軍の主よ、あなたが彼らに、あだを返されるのを見せてください。わたしはあなたに、わたしの訴えをお任せしたからです。

¹³Sing ye unto Jehovah, praise Jehovah, for he hath delivered the soul of the needy from the hand of evildoers.

¹³主に向かって歌い、主をほめたたえよ。主は貧しい者の命を、悪人の手から救われたからである。

¹⁴Cursed be the day wherein I was born; let not the day wherein my mother bore me be blessed!

¹⁴わたしの生れた日はのろわれよ。母がわたしを産んだ日は祝福を受けるな。

¹⁵Cursed be the man who brought tidings to my father, saying, A man child is born unto thee; making him very glad!

¹⁵わたしの父に「男の子が、生れました」と告げて、彼を大いに喜ばせた人は、のろわれよ。

¹⁶And let that man be as the cities which Jehovah overthrew, and repented not; and let him hear a cry in the morning, and a shouting at noonday,

¹⁶その人は、主のあわれみを受けることなく、滅ぼされた町のようになれ。朝には、彼に叫びを聞かせ、昼には戦いの声を聞かせよ。

¹⁷because he slew me not from the womb. Or would that my mother had been my grave, and her womb always great [with me]!

¹⁷彼がわたしを胎内で殺さず、わが母をわたしの墓場となさず、その胎をいつまでも大きくしなかったからである。なにゆえにわたしは胎内を出てきて、悩みと悲しみに会い、恥を受けて一生を過ごすのか。

¹⁸Wherefore came I forth from the womb to see labour and sorrow, that my days should be consumed in shame?
