¹The word that came to Jeremiah from Jehovah in the tenth year of Zedekiah king of Judah: that year was the eighteenth year of Nebuchadrezzar.

¹ユダの王ゼデキヤの十年、すなわちネブカデレザルの十八年に、主の言葉がエレミヤに臨んだ。

²And the king of Babylon's army was then besieging Jerusalem; and the prophet Jeremiah was shut up in the court of the guard, which was in the king of Judah's house.

²その時、バビロンの王の軍勢がエルサレムを攻め囲んでいて、預言者エレミヤはユダの王の宮殿にある監視の庭のうちに監禁されていた。

³For Zedekiah king of Judah had shut him up, saying, Why dost thou prophesy and say, Thus saith Jehovah: Behold, I give this city into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall take it;

³ユダの王ゼデキヤが彼を閉じ込めたのであるが、王は言った、「なぜあなたは預言して言うのか、『主はこう仰せられる、見よ、わたしはこの町をバビロンの王の手に渡し、彼はこれを取る。

⁴and Zedekiah king of Judah shall not escape out of the hand of the Chaldeans; for he shall certainly be given into the hand of the king of Babylon, and shall speak with him mouth to mouth, and his eyes shall behold his eyes;

⁴またユダの王ゼデキヤはカルデヤびとの手をのがれることなく、かならずバビロンの王の手に渡され、顔と顔を合わせて彼と語り、目と目は相まみえる。

⁵and he shall lead Zedekiah to Babylon, and there shall he be until I visit him, saith Jehovah: though ye fight with the Chaldeans, ye shall not prosper?

⁵そして彼はゼデキヤをバビロンに引いていき、ゼデキヤは、わたしが彼を顧みる時まで、そこにいると主は言われる。あなたがたは、カルデヤびとと戦っても勝つことはできない』と」。

⁶And Jeremiah said, The word of Jehovah came unto me, saying,

⁶エレミヤは言った、「主の言葉がわたしに臨んで言われる、

⁷Behold, Hanameel, the son of Shallum thine uncle, shall come unto thee, saying, Buy for thyself my field which is in Anathoth; for thine is the right of redemption, to buy [it].

⁷『見よ、あなたのおじシャルムの子ハナメルがあなたの所に来て言う、「アナトテにあるわたしの畑を買いなさい。それは、これを買い取り、あがなう権利があなたにあるから」と』。

⁸And Hanameel, mine uncle's son, came to me in the court of the guard according to the word of Jehovah, and said unto me, Buy my field, I pray thee, that is in Anathoth, which is in the land of Benjamin; for the right of inheritance is thine, and the redemption is thine: buy [it] for thyself. Then I knew that this was the word of Jehovah.

⁸はたして主の言葉のように、わたしのいとこであるハナメルが監視の庭のうちにいるわたしの所に来て言った、『ベニヤミンの地のアナトテにあるわたしの畑を買ってください。所有するのも、あがなうのも、あなたの権利なのです。買い取ってあなたの物にしてください。これが主の言葉であるのをわたしは知っていました』。

⁹And I bought of Hanameel, mine uncle's son, the field which is in Anathoth, and weighed him the money, seventeen shekels of silver.

⁹そこでわたしは、いとこのハナメルからアナトテにある畑を買い取り、銀十七シケルを量って彼に支払った。

¹⁰And I subscribed the writing, and sealed it, and took witnesses, and weighed the money in the balances.

¹⁰すなわち、わたしはその証書をつくって、これに記名し、それを封印し、証人を立て、はかりをもって銀を量って与えた。

¹¹And I took the writing of the purchase, that which was sealed [according to] the law and the statutes, and that which was open;

¹¹そしてわたしはその約定をしるして封印した買収証書と、封印のない写しとを取り、

¹²and I gave the writing of the purchase unto Baruch the son of Nerijah, the son of Maaseiah, in the sight of Hanameel mine uncle's [son], and in the presence of the witnesses that had subscribed the writing of purchase, before all the Jews that were sitting in the court of the guard.

¹²いとこのハナメルと、買収証書に記名した証人たち、および監視の庭にすわっているすべてのユダヤ人の前で、その証書をマアセヤの子であるネリヤの子バルクに与え、

¹³And I charged Baruch in their presence, saying,

¹³彼らの前で、わたしはバルクに命じて言った、

¹⁴Thus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel: Take these writings, this writing of the purchase, both that which is sealed and this writing which is open; and put them in an earthen vessel, that they may remain many days.

¹⁴『万軍の主、イスラエルの神はこう仰せられる、これらの証書すなわち、この買収証書の封印したものと、封印のない写しとを取り、これらを土の器に入れて、長く保存せよ。

¹⁵For thus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel: Houses and fields and vineyards shall again be purchased in this land.

¹⁵万軍の主、イスラエルの神がこう言われるからである、「この地で人々はまた家と畑とぶどう畑を買うようになる」と』。

¹⁶And after I had given the writing of the purchase unto Baruch the son of Nerijah, I prayed unto Jehovah saying,

¹⁶わたしは買収証書をネリヤの子バルクに渡したあとで主に祈って言った、

¹⁷Alas, Lord Jehovah! Behold, thou hast made the heavens and the earth by thy great power and stretched-out arm; there is nothing too hard for thee:

¹⁷『ああ主なる神よ、あなたは大いなる力と、伸べた腕をもって天と地をお造りになったのです。あなたのできないことは、ひとつもありません。

¹⁸who shewest mercy unto thousands, and recompensest the iniquity of the fathers into the bosom of their children after them, thou, the great, the mighty ùGod, -- Jehovah of hosts is his name;

¹⁸あなたはいつくしみを千万人に施し、また父の罪をそののちの子孫に報いられるのです。あなたは大いなる全能の神でいらせられ、その名は万軍の主と申されます。

¹⁹great in counsel and mighty in work, whose eyes are open upon all the ways of the children of men, to give every one according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings:

¹⁹あなたの計りごとは大きく、また、事を行うのに力があり、あなたの目は人々の歩むすべての道を見て、おのおのの道にしたがい、その行いの実によってこれに報いられます。

²⁰who hast displayed signs and wonders unto this day, in the land of Egypt and in Israel and among [other] men; and hast made thee a name, as at this day.

²⁰あなたは、しるしと、不思議なわざとをエジプトの地に行い、また今日に至るまでイスラエルと全人類のうちに行い、そして今日のように名をあげられました。

²¹And thou broughtest forth thy people Israel out of the land of Egypt by signs, and by wonders, and by a powerful hand, and by a stretched-out arm, and by great terror;

²¹あなたは、しるしと、不思議なわざと、強い手と、伸べた腕と、大いなる恐るべき事をもって、あなたの民イスラエルをエジプトの地から導き出し、

²²and didst give them this land, which thou hadst sworn unto their fathers to give them, a land flowing with milk and honey.

²²この地を彼らに賜わりました。これはあなたが彼らの先祖たちに与えようと誓われた乳と蜜の流れる地です。

²³And they came in and possessed it: but they hearkened not unto thy voice, neither walked in thy law; they have done nothing of all that thou commandedst them to do; so that thou hast caused all this evil to come upon them.

²³こうして彼らは、はいってこれを獲たのですが、あなたの声に聞き従わず、あなたの律法を行わず、すべてあなたがせよと命じられたことをしなかったので、あなたはこの災を彼らの上にお下しになりました。

²⁴Behold the mounds, they are come unto the city for taking it; and the city is given over into the hand of the Chaldeans, that fight against it, by the sword, and the famine, and the pestilence: and what thou hast spoken is come to pass; and behold, thou seest [it].

²⁴見よ、塁が築きあげられたのは、この町を取るためです。つるぎと、ききんと、疫病のために、町はこれを攻めているカルデヤびとの手に渡されます。あなたの言われたようになりましたのは、ごらんのとおりであります。

²⁵And thou, Lord Jehovah, thou hast said unto me, Buy for thyself the field for money, and take witnesses; -- and the city is given into the hand of the Chaldeans.

²⁵主なる神よ、あなたはわたしに言われました、「銀をもって畑を買い、証人を立てよ」と。そうであるのに、町はカルデヤびとの手に渡されています』」。

²⁶And the word of Jehovah came unto Jeremiah, saying,

²⁶主の言葉がエレミヤに臨んだ、

²⁷Behold, I am Jehovah, the God of all flesh: is there anything too hard for me?

²⁷「見よ、わたしは主である、すべて命ある者の神である。わたしにできない事があろうか。

²⁸Therefore thus saith Jehovah: Behold, I give this city into the hand of the Chaldeans, and into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon, and he shall take it.

²⁸それゆえ、主はこう言われる、見よ、わたしはこの町をカルデヤびとと、バビロンの王ネブカデレザルの手に渡す。彼はこれを取る。

²⁹And the Chaldeans, that fight against this city, shall come in and set fire to this city, and shall burn it, and the houses upon whose roofs they have offered incense unto Baal, and poured out drink-offerings unto other gods, to provoke me to anger.

²⁹この町を攻めているカルデヤびとがきて、この町に火をつけて焼き払う。屋根の上で人々が、バアルに香をたき、ほかの神々に酒をそそいで、わたしを怒らせたその家をも彼らは焼く。

³⁰For the children of Israel and the children of Judah have been doing only evil in my sight from their youth; for the children of Israel have only provoked me to anger with the work of their hands, saith Jehovah.

³⁰それは、イスラエルの人々とユダの人々とは、その若い時から、わたしの前に悪いことのみを行い、またイスラエルの民はその手のわざをもって、わたしを怒らせることばかりをしたからであると主は言われる。

³¹For this city hath been to me [a provocation] of mine anger and of my fury from the day that they built it even unto this day; that I should remove it from before my face,

³¹この町はそれが建った日からきょうまで、わたしの怒りと憤りとをひき起してきたので、わたしの前からこれを除き去るのである。

³²because of all the evil of the children of Israel and of the children of Judah, which they have done to provoke me to anger, they, their kings, their princes, their priests, and their prophets, and the men of Judah, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

³²それは、イスラエルの民とユダの民とが、もろもろの悪を行って、わたしを怒らせたことによるのである。――彼らの王たちと、そのつかさたち、祭司たち、預言者たち、またユダの人々とエルサレムの住民たちが皆そうである。

³³And they have turned unto me the back, and not the face; and though I taught them, rising early and teaching, they hearkened not to receive instruction.

³³彼らはその背中をわたしに向けて顔をわたしに向けず、わたしがたゆまず教えたにもかかわらず、彼らは教を聞かず、またうけないのである。

³⁴And they have set their abominations in the house which is called by my name, to defile it;

³⁴彼らは憎むべき物を、わが名をもって呼ばれている家にすえつけて、そこを汚し、

³⁵and they have built the high places of Baal, which are in the valley of the son of Hinnom, to cause to pass through [the fire] their sons and their daughters unto Molech: which I commanded them not, neither came it into my mind, that they should do this abomination, to cause Judah to sin.

³⁵またベンヒンノムの谷にバアルの高き所を築いて、むすこ娘をモレクにささげた。わたしは彼らにこのようなことを命じたことはなく、また彼らがこの憎むべきことを行って、ユダに罪を犯させようとは考えもしなかった。

³⁶And now therefore Jehovah, the God of Israel, saith thus concerning this city, whereof ye say, It hath been given over into the hand of the king of Babylon by the sword, and by the famine, and by the pestilence:

³⁶それゆえ今イスラエルの神、主は、この町、すなわちあなたがたが、『つるぎと、ききんと、疫病のためにバビロンの王の手に渡される』といっている町についてこう仰せられる、

³⁷Behold, I will gather them out of all the countries whither I have driven them, in mine anger, and in my fury, and in great wrath; and I will bring them again unto this place, and I will cause them to dwell safely.

³⁷見よ、わたしは、わたしの怒りと憤りと大いなる怒りをもって、彼らを追いやったもろもろの国から彼らを集め、この所へ導きかえって、安らかに住まわせる。

³⁸And they shall be my people, and I will be their God.

³⁸そして彼らはわたしの民となり、わたしは彼らの神となる。

³⁹And I will give them one heart, and one way, that they may fear me all [their] days, for the good of them, and of their children after them.

³⁹わたしは彼らに一つの心と一つの道を与えて常にわたしを恐れさせる。これは彼らが彼ら自身とその後の子孫の幸を得るためである。

⁴⁰And I will make an everlasting covenant with them, that I will not draw back from them, to do them good; and I will put my fear in their heart, that they may not turn aside from me.

⁴⁰わたしは彼らと永遠の契約を立てて、彼らを見捨てずに恵みを施すことを誓い、またわたしを恐れる恐れを彼らの心に置いて、わたしを離れることのないようにしよう。

⁴¹And I will rejoice over them to do them good, and I will assuredly plant them in this land with my whole heart and with my whole soul.

⁴¹わたしは彼らに恵みを施すことを喜びとし、心をつくし、精神をつくし、真実をもって彼らをこの地に植える。

⁴²For thus saith Jehovah: Like as I have brought all this great evil upon this people, so will I bring upon them all the good that I have spoken concerning them.

⁴²主はこう仰せられる、わたしがこのもろもろの大きな災をこの民に下したように、わたしが彼らに約束するもろもろの幸を彼らの上に下す。

⁴³And fields shall be bought in this land, whereof ye say, It is desolate without man or beast; it is given into the hand of the Chaldeans.

⁴³人々はこの地に畑を買うようになる。あなたがたが、『それは荒れて人も獣もいなくなり、カルデヤびとの手に渡されてしまう』といっている地である。人々はベニヤミンの地と、エルサレムの周囲と、ユダの町々と、山地の町々と、平地の町々と、ネゲブの町々で、銀をもって畑を買い、証書をつくって、これに記名し封印し、また証人を立てる。それは、わたしが彼らを再び栄えさせるからであると主は言われる」。

⁴⁴[Men] shall buy fields for money, and subscribe the writings, and seal them, and take witnesses, in the land of Benjamin, and in the environs of Jerusalem, and in the cities of Judah, and in the cities of the hill-country, and in the cities of the lowland, and in the cities of the south: for I will turn their captivity, saith Jehovah.

⁴⁴人々はベニヤミンの地と、エルサレムの周囲と、ユダの町々と、山地の町々と、平地の町々と、ネゲブの町々で、銀をもって畑を買い、証書をつくって、これに記名し封印し、また証人を立てる。それは、わたしが彼らを再び栄えさせるからであると主は言われる」。
