¹And the children of Israel again did evil in the sight of Jehovah; and Jehovah gave them into the hand of the Philistines forty years.

¹イスラエルの人々がまた主の前に悪を行ったので、主は彼らを四十年の間ペリシテびとの手にわたされた。

²And there was a certain man of Zoreah, of the family of the Danites, and his name was Manoah. And his wife was barren and did not bear.

²ここにダンびとの氏族の者で、名をマノアというゾラの人があった。その妻はうまずめで、子を産んだことがなかった。

³And the Angel of Jehovah appeared to the woman, and said to her, Behold now, thou art barren and bearest not; but thou shalt conceive and bear a son.

³主の使がその女に現れて言った、「あなたはうまずめで、子を産んだことがありません。しかし、あなたは身ごもって男の子を産むでしょう。

⁴And now beware, I pray thee, and drink not wine nor strong drink, and eat nothing unclean.

⁴それであなたは気をつけて、ぶどう酒または濃い酒を飲んではなりません。またすべて汚れたものを食べてはなりません。

⁵For lo, thou shalt conceive, and bear a son, and no razor shall come on his head; for the boy shall be a Nazarite of God from the womb; and he shall begin to save Israel out of the hand of the Philistines.

⁵あなたは身ごもって男の子を産むでしょう。その頭にかみそりをあててはなりません。その子は生れた時から神にささげられたナジルびとです。彼はペリシテびとの手からイスラエルを救い始めるでしょう」。

⁶And the woman came and told her husband, saying, A man of God came to me, and his appearance was like the appearance of an angel of God, very terrible; but I did not ask him whence he was, neither did he tell me his name.

⁶そこでその女はきて夫に言った、「神の人がわたしのところにきました。その顔かたちは神の使の顔かたちのようで、たいそう恐ろしゅうございました。わたしはその人が、どこからきたのか尋ねませんでしたが、その人もわたしに名を告げませんでした。

⁷And he said to me, Behold, thou shalt conceive and bear a son; and now drink not wine nor strong drink, and eat not anything unclean; for the boy shall be a Nazarite of God from the womb to the day of his death.

⁷しかしその人はわたしに『あなたは身ごもって男の子を産むでしょう。それであなたはぶどう酒または濃い酒を飲んではなりません。またすべて汚れたものを食べてはなりません。その子は生れた時から死ぬ日まで神にささげられたナジルびとです』と申しました」。

⁸Then Manoah prayed to Jehovah, and said, Ah Lord! let the man of God which thou didst send come again unto us, I pray thee, and teach us what we shall do unto the child that shall be born.

⁸そこでマノアは主に願い求めて言った、「ああ、主よ、どうぞ、あなたがさきにつかわされた神の人をもう一度わたしたちに臨ませて、わたしたちがその生れる子になすべきことを教えさせてください」。

⁹And God hearkened to the voice of Manoah; and the Angel of God came again to the woman whilst she sat in the field; but Manoah her husband was not with her.

⁹神がマノアの願いを聞かれたので、神の使は女が畑に座していた時、ふたたび彼女に臨んだ。しかし夫マノアは一緒にいなかった。

¹⁰Then the woman hasted and ran, and informed her husband, and said to him, Behold, the man has appeared to me, that came to me that day.

¹⁰女は急ぎ走って行って夫に言った、「さきごろ、わたしに臨まれた人がまたわたしに現れました」。

¹¹And Manoah rose up and went after his wife, and came to the man, and said to him, Art thou the man that didst speak to the woman? And he said, I am.

¹¹マノアは立って妻のあとについて行き、その人のもとに行って言った、「あなたはかつてこの女にお告げになったおかたですか」。その人は言った、「そうです」。

¹²And Manoah said, When thy words then come to pass, what shall be the child's manner and his doing?

¹²マノアは言った、「あなたの言われたことが事実となったとき、その子の育て方およびこれになすべき事はなんでしょうか」。

¹³And the Angel of Jehovah said to Manoah, Of all that I said unto the woman let her beware:

¹³主の使はマノアに言った、「わたしがさきに女に言ったことは皆、守らせなければなりません。

¹⁴she shall not eat of anything that cometh of the vine, neither shall she drink wine or strong drink, nor eat anything unclean: all that I commanded her shall she observe.

¹⁴すなわちぶどうの木から産するものはすべて食べてはなりません。またぶどう酒と濃い酒を飲んではなりません。またすべて汚れたものを食べてはなりません。わたしが彼女に命じたことは皆、守らせなければなりません」。

¹⁵And Manoah said to the Angel of Jehovah, I pray thee, let us detain thee, and we will make ready a kid of the goats for thee.

¹⁵マノアは主の使に言った、「どうぞ、わたしたちに、あなたを引き留めさせ、あなたのために子やぎを備えさせてください」。

¹⁶And the Angel of Jehovah said to Manoah, Though thou shouldest detain me, I will not eat of thy bread; and if thou wilt offer a burnt-offering, thou shalt offer it up to Jehovah. For Manoah knew not that he was the Angel of Jehovah.

¹⁶主の使はマノアに言った、「あなたがわたしを引き留めても、わたしはあなたの食物をたべません。しかしあなたが燔祭を備えようとなさるのであれば、主にそれをささげなさい」。マノアは彼が主の使であるのを知らなかったからである。

¹⁷And Manoah said to the Angel of Jehovah, What is thy name, that when thy word cometh to pass we may do thee honour?

¹⁷マノアは主の使に言った、「あなたの名はなんといいますか。あなたの言われたことが事実となったとき、わたしたちはあなたをあがめましょう」。

¹⁸And the Angel of Jehovah said to him, How is it that thou askest after my name, seeing it is wonderful?

¹⁸主の使は彼に言った、「わたしの名は不思議です。どうしてあなたはそれをたずねるのですか」。

¹⁹Then Manoah took the kid and the oblation, and offered it up to Jehovah upon the rock. And he did wondrously, and Manoah and his wife looked on.

¹⁹そこでマノアは子やぎと素祭とをとり、岩の上でそれを主にささげた。主は不思議なことをされ、マノアとその妻はそれを見た。

²⁰And it came to pass, as the flame went up from off the altar towards the heavens, that the Angel of Jehovah ascended in the flame of the altar; and Manoah and his wife looked on, and fell on their faces to the ground.

²⁰すなわち炎が祭壇から天にあがったとき、主の使は祭壇の炎のうちにあってのぼった。マノアとその妻は見て、地にひれ伏した。

²¹And the Angel of Jehovah appeared no more to Manoah and to his wife. Then Manoah knew that it was the Angel of Jehovah.

²¹主の使はふたたびマノアとその妻に現れなかった。その時マノアは彼が主の使であることを知った。

²²And Manoah said to his wife, We shall surely die, because we have seen God.

²²マノアは妻に向かって言った、「わたしたちは神を見たから、きっと死ぬであろう」。

²³But his wife said to him, If Jehovah were pleased to kill us, he would not have received a burnt-offering and an oblation at our hands, neither would he have shewed us all these things, nor would he at this time have told us [such things] as these.

²³妻は彼に言った、「主がもし、わたしたちを殺そうと思われたのならば、わたしたちの手から燔祭と素祭をおうけにならなかったでしょう。またこれらのすべての事をわたしたちにお示しになるはずはなく、また今わたしたちにこのような事をお告げにならなかったでしょう」。

²⁴And the woman bore a son, and called his name Samson. And the child grew, and Jehovah blessed him.

²⁴やがて女は男の子を産んで、その名をサムソンと呼んだ。その子は成長し、主は彼を恵まれた。主の霊はゾラとエシタオルの間のマハネダンにおいて初めて彼を感動させた。

²⁵And the Spirit of Jehovah began to move him at Mahaneh-Dan, between Zoreah and Eshtaol.
