1How doth the city sit solitary [that] was full of people! She that was great among the nations is become as a widow; the princess among the provinces is become tributary!
1ああ、むかしは、民の満ちみちていたこの都、国々の民のうちで大いなる者であったこの町、今は寂しいさまで座し、やもめのようになった。もろもろの町のうちで女王であった者、今は奴隷となった。
2She weepeth sore in the night, and her tears are on her cheeks; among all her lovers she hath no comforter; all her friends have dealt treacherously with her, they are become her enemies.
2これは夜もすがらいたく泣き悲しみ、そのほおには涙が流れている。そのすべての愛する者のうちには、これを慰める者はひとりもなく、そのすべての友はこれにそむいて、その敵となった。
3Judah is gone into captivity because of affliction, and because of great servitude; she dwelleth among the nations, she findeth no rest: all her pursuers have overtaken her within the straits.
3ユダは悩みのゆえに、また激しい苦役のゆえに、のがれて行って、もろもろの国民のうちに住んでいるが、安息を得ず、これを追う者がみな追いついてみると、悩みのうちにあった。
4The ways of Zion do mourn, because none come to the solemn assembly: all her gates are desolate; her priests sigh, her virgins are in grief; and as for her, she is in bitterness.
4シオンの道は祭に上ってくる者のないために悲しみ、その門はことごとく荒れ、その祭司たちは嘆き、そのおとめたちは引かれて行き、シオンはみずからいたく苦しむ。
5Her adversaries have become the head, her enemies prosper; for Jehovah hath afflicted her for the multitude of her transgressions: her children are gone into captivity before the adversary.
5そのあだはかしらとなり、その敵は栄えている。そのとがが多いので、主がこれを悩まされたからである。その幼な子たちは捕われて、あだの前に行った。
6And from the daughter of Zion all her splendour is departed: her princes are become like harts that find no pasture; and they are gone without strength before the pursuer.
6シオンの娘の栄華はことごとく彼女を離れ去り、その君たちは牧草を得ない、しかのようになり、自分を追う者の前に力なく逃げ去った。
7In the days of her affliction and of her wanderings, since her people fell into the hand of an adversary, and none did help her, Jerusalem remembereth all her precious things which she had in the days of old: the adversaries have seen her, they mock at her ruin.
7エルサレムはその悩みと苦しみの日に、昔から持っていたもろもろの宝を思い出す。その民があだの手に陥り、だれもこれを助ける者のない時、あだはこれを見て、その滅びをあざ笑った。
8Jerusalem hath grievously sinned; therefore is she removed as an impurity: all that honoured her despise her because they have seen her nakedness; and she sigheth, and turneth backward.
8エルサレムは、はなはだしく罪を犯したので、汚れたものとなった。これを尊んだ者も皆その裸を見たので、これを卑しめる。これもまたみずから嘆き、顔をそむける。
9Her impurity was in her skirts, she remembered not her latter end; and she came down wonderfully: she hath no comforter. Jehovah, behold my affliction; for the enemy hath magnified himself.
9その汚れはその衣のすそにあり、これはその終りを思わなかった。それゆえ、これは驚くばかりに落ちぶれ、これを慰める者はひとりもない。「主よ、わが悩みを顧みてください、敵は勝ち誇っていますから」。
10The adversary hath spread out his hand upon all her precious things; for she hath seen the nations enter into her sanctuary, concerning whom thou didst command that they should not enter into thy congregation.
10敵は手を伸べて、その財宝をことごとく奪った。あなたがさきに異邦人らはあなたの公会に、はいってはならないと命じられたのに、彼らがその聖所にはいるのをシオンは見た。
11All her people sigh, they seek bread; they have given their precious things for food to revive [their] soul. See, Jehovah, and consider, for I am become vile.
11その民はみな嘆いて食物を求め、その命をささえるために、財宝を食物にかえた。「主よ、みそなわして、わたしの卑しめられるのを顧みてください」。
12Is it nothing to you, all ye that pass by? Behold, and see if there be any sorrow like unto my sorrow, which is done unto me, whom Jehovah hath afflicted in the day of his fierce anger.
12「すべて道行く人よ、あなたがたはなんとも思わないのか。主がその激しい怒りの日にわたしを悩まして、わたしにくだされた苦しみのような苦しみが、また世にあるだろうか、尋ねて見よ。
13From on high hath he sent fire into my bones, and it prevaileth against them; he hath spread a net for my feet; he hath turned me back; he hath made me desolate [and] faint all the day.
13主は上から火を送り、それをわが骨にくだし、網を張ってわが足を捕え、わたしを引き返させ、ひねもす心わびしく、かつ病み衰えさせられた。
14The yoke of my transgressions is bound by his hand: they are wreathed, they are come up upon my neck; he hath made my strength to fail; the Lord hath delivered me into hands out of which I am not able to rise up.
14わたしのとがは、つかねられて、一つのくびきとせられ、主のみ手により固く締められて、わたしの首におかれ、わたしの力を衰えさせられた。主はわたしを、立ちむかい得ざる者の手に渡された。
15The Lord hath cast down all my mighty men in the midst of me; he hath called an assembly against me to crush my young men; the Lord hath trodden as a winepress the virgin daughter of Judah.
15主はわたしのうちにあるすべての勇士を無視し、聖会を召集して、わたしを攻め、わが若き人々を打ち滅ぼされた。主は酒ぶねを踏むように、ユダの娘なるおとめを踏みつけられた。
16For these things I weep; mine eye, mine eye runneth down with water: for the comforter that should revive my soul is far from me; my children are desolate, for the enemy hath prevailed.
16このために、わたしは泣き悲しみ、わたしの目は涙であふれる。わたしを慰める者、わたしを勇気づける者がわたしから遠く離れたからである。わが子らは敵が勝ったために、わびしい者となった」。
17Zion spreadeth forth her hands; there is none to comfort her; Jehovah hath commanded concerning Jacob, [that] his adversaries [should be] round about him; Jerusalem is as an impurity among them.
17シオンは手を伸ばしても、これを慰める者はひとりもない。ヤコブについては、主は命じて、その周囲の者を、これがあだとせられた。エルサレムは彼らの中にあって、汚れた物のようになった。
18Jehovah is righteous; for I have rebelled against his commandment. Hear, I pray you, all ye peoples, and behold my sorrow. My virgins and my young men are gone into captivity.
18「主は正しい、わたしは、み言葉にそむいた。すべての民よ、聞け、わが苦しみを顧みよ。わがおとめらも、わが若人らも捕われて行った。
19I called for my lovers, they have deceived me; my priests and mine elders have expired in the city, while they sought them food to revive their soul.
19わたしはわが愛する者を呼んだが、彼らはわたしを欺いた。わが祭司および長老たちは、その命をささえようと、食物を求めている間に、町のうちで息絶えた。
20See, Jehovah, for I am in distress, my bowels are troubled; my heart is turned within me, for I have grievously rebelled: without, the sword hath bereaved [me], within, it is as death.
20主よ、顧みてください、わたしは悩み、わがはらわたはわきかえり、わが心臓はわたしの内に転倒しています。わたしは、はなはだしくそむいたからです。外にはつるぎがあって、わが子を奪い、家の内には死のようなものがある。
21They have heard that I sigh: I have no comforter: all mine enemies have heard of my calamity; they are glad that thou hast done it. Thou wilt bring the day that thou hast called, and they shall be like unto me.
21わたしがどんなに嘆くかを聞いてください。わたしを慰める者はひとりもなく、敵はみなわたしの悩みを聞いて、あなたがこれをなされたのを喜んだ。あなたがさきに告げ知らせたその日をきたらせ、彼らをも、わたしのようにしてください。彼らの悪をことごとくあなたの前にあらわし、さきにわがもろもろのとがのために、わたしに行われたように、彼らにも行ってください。わが嘆きは多く、わが心は弱りはてているからです」。
22Let all their wickedness come before thee; and do unto them, as thou hast done unto me for all my transgressions: for my sighs are many, and my heart is faint.
22彼らの悪をことごとくあなたの前にあらわし、さきにわがもろもろのとがのために、わたしに行われたように、彼らにも行ってください。わが嘆きは多く、わが心は弱りはてているからです」。
