¹And Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying,

¹さて主はモーセに言われた、

²Avenge the children of Israel upon the Midianites; afterwards shalt thou be gathered unto thy peoples.

²「ミデアンびとにイスラエルの人々のあだを報いなさい。その後、あなたはあなたの民に加えられるであろう」。

³And Moses spoke to the people, saying, Arm from amongst you men for military service, that they go against Midian to execute Jehovah's vengeance upon Midian.

³モーセは民に言った、「あなたがたのうちから人を選んで戦いのために武装させ、ミデアンびとを攻めて、主のためミデアンびとに復讐しなさい。

⁴Of every tribe a thousand, of all the tribes of Israel, shall ye send to the war.

⁴すなわちイスラエルのすべての部族から、部族ごとに千人ずつを戦いに送り出さなければならない」。

⁵And there were levied out of the thousands of Israel, a thousand by tribe, twelve thousand armed for war.

⁵そこでイスラエルの部族のうちから部族ごとに千人ずつを選び、一万二千人を得て、戦いのために武装させた。

⁶And Moses sent them to the war, a thousand by the tribe, them and Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest, to the war, and the holy instruments, even the alarm-trumpets in his hand.

⁶モーセは各部族から千人ずつを戦いにつかわし、また祭司エレアザルの子ピネハスに、聖なる器と吹き鳴らすラッパとを執らせて、共に戦いにつかわした。

⁷And they warred against Midian, as Jehovah had commanded Moses, and slew all the males.

⁷彼らは主がモーセに命じられたようにミデアンびとと戦って、その男子をみな殺した。

⁸And they slew the kings of Midian, besides the others slain, Evi, and Rekem, and Zur, and Hur, and Reba, five kings of Midian; and Balaam the son of Beor they slew with the sword.

⁸その殺した者のほかにまたミデアンの王五人を殺した。その名はエビ、レケム、ツル、フル、レバである。またベオルの子バラムをも、つるぎにかけて殺した。

⁹And the children of Israel took the women of Midian captives, and their little ones, and took for a spoil all their cattle and all their flocks and all their goods;

⁹またイスラエルの人々はミデアンの女たちとその子供たちを捕虜にし、その家畜と、羊の群れと、貨財とをことごとく奪い取り、

¹⁰and all their cities in their settlements and all their encampments they burned with fire.

¹⁰そのすまいのある町々と、その部落とを、ことごとく火で焼いた。

¹¹And they took all the booty, and all the prey, of man and of cattle;

¹¹こうして彼らはすべて奪ったものと、かすめたものとは人をも家畜をも取り、

¹²and they brought to Moses and Eleazar the priest, and to the assembly of the children of Israel, the captives and the prey and the booty, to the camp in the plains of Moab, which are by the Jordan of Jericho.

¹²その生けどった者と、かすめたものと、奪ったものとを携えて、エリコに近いヨルダンのほとりのモアブの平野の宿営におるモーセと祭司エレアザルとイスラエルの人々の会衆のもとへもどってきた。

¹³And Moses and Eleazar the priest and all the princes of the assembly went forth to meet them outside the camp.

¹³ときにモーセと祭司エレアザルと会衆のつかさたちはみな宿営の外に出て迎えたが、

¹⁴And Moses was wroth with the officers of the army, with the captains of thousands, and captains of hundreds, who came from the service of the war;

¹⁴モーセは軍勢の将たち、すなわち戦場から帰ってきた千人の長たちと、百人の長たちに対して怒った。

¹⁵and Moses said to them, Have ye saved all the women alive?

¹⁵モーセは彼らに言った、「あなたがたは女たちをみな生かしておいたのか。

¹⁶Lo, these, through the counsel of Balaam, caused the children of Israel to commit sin against Jehovah in the matter of Peor, and there was a plague on the assembly of Jehovah.

¹⁶彼らはバラムのはかりごとによって、イスラエルの人々に、ペオルのことで主に罪を犯させ、ついに主の会衆のうちに疫病を起すに至った。

¹⁷And now slay every male among the little ones, and slay every woman that hath known man by lying with him,

¹⁷それで今、この子供たちのうちの男の子をみな殺し、また男と寝て、男を知った女をみな殺しなさい。

¹⁸but all the children among the women that have not known lying with a man, keep alive for yourselves.

¹⁸ただし、まだ男と寝ず、男を知らない娘はすべてあなたがたのために生かしておきなさい。

¹⁹And encamp outside the camp seven days; whoever hath killed a person, and whoever hath touched any slain; ye shall purify yourselves on the third day, and on the seventh day, you and your captives.

¹⁹そしてあなたがたは七日のあいだ宿営の外にとどまりなさい。あなたがたのうちすべて人を殺した者、およびすべて殺された者に触れた者は、あなたがた自身も、あなたがたの捕虜も共に、三日目と七日目とに身を清めなければならない。

²⁰And every garment, and every vessel of skin, and all work of goat's hair, and every utensil of wood shall ye purify.

²⁰またすべての衣服と、すべての皮の器と、すべてやぎの毛で作ったものと、すべての木の器とを清めなければならない」。

²¹And Eleazar the priest said to the men of war that had gone to the battle, This is the statute of the law which Jehovah hath commanded Moses.

²¹祭司エレアザルは戦いに出たいくさびとたちに言った、「これは主がモーセに命じられた律法の定めである。

²²Only the gold, and the silver, the copper, the iron, the tin, and the lead,

²²金、銀、青銅、鉄、すず、鉛など、

²³everything that passeth through the fire, ye shall make it go through the fire, and it shall be clean; only it shall be purified with the water of separation; and everything that cannot pass through the fire ye shall make go through the water.

²³すべて火に耐える物は火の中を通さなければならない。そうすれば清くなるであろう。なおその上、汚れを清める水で、清めなければならない。しかし、すべて火に耐えないものは水の中を通さなければならない。

²⁴And ye shall wash your garments on the seventh day, and ye shall be clean; and afterwards ye may come into the camp.

²⁴あなたがたは七日目に衣服を洗わなければならない。そして清くなり、その後宿営にはいることができる」。

²⁵And Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying,

²⁵主はモーセに言われた、

²⁶Take the sum of the prey that was taken, of man and of cattle, thou, and Eleazar the priest, and the chief fathers of the assembly;

²⁶「あなたと祭司エレアザルおよび会衆の氏族のかしらたちは、その生けどった人と家畜の獲物の総数を調べ、

²⁷and divide the prey into halves, between them that conducted the war, who went out to the battle, and the whole assembly.

²⁷その獲物を戦いに出た勇士と、全会衆とに折半しなさい。

²⁸And thou shalt levy a tribute for Jehovah of the men of war who went out to the army, one soul of five hundred of the persons, and of the oxen, and of the asses, and of the small cattle.

²⁸そして戦いに出たいくさびとに、人または牛、またはろば、または羊を、おのおの五百ごとに一つを取り、みつぎとして主にささげさせなさい。

²⁹Of their half shall ye take it, and give it unto Eleazar the priest, for a heave-offering of Jehovah.

²⁹すなわち彼らが受ける半分のなかから、それを取り、主にささげる物として祭司エレアザルに渡しなさい。

³⁰And of the children of Israel's half, thou shalt take one portion of fifty, of the persons, of the oxen, of the asses, and of the small cattle, of every [kind of] beasts, and thou shalt give them unto the Levites, who keep the charge of the tabernacle of Jehovah.

³⁰またイスラエルの人々が受ける半分のなかから、その獲た人または牛、またはろば、または羊などの家畜を、おのおの五十ごとに一つを取り、主の幕屋の務をするレビびとに与えなさい」。

³¹And Moses and Eleazar the priest did as Jehovah had commanded Moses.

³¹モーセと祭司エレアザルとは主がモーセに命じられたとおりに行った。

³²And the prey, the rest of the spoil, which the men of war had taken, was six hundred and seventy-five thousand sheep,

³²そこでその獲物、すなわち、いくさびとたちが奪い取ったものの残りは羊六十七万五千、

³³and seventy-two thousand oxen,

³³牛七万二千、

³⁴and sixty-one thousand asses,

³⁴ろば六万一千、

³⁵and of human persons, of the women that had not known lying with a man, all the persons were thirty-two thousand.

³⁵人三万二千、これはみな男と寝ず、男を知らない女であった。

³⁶And the half, the portion of them that had gone out to the war, was in number three hundred and thirty-seven thousand five hundred sheep,

³⁶そしてその半分、すなわち戦いに出た者の分は羊三十三万七千五百、

³⁷and the tribute for Jehovah of the sheep was six hundred and seventy-five;

³⁷主にみつぎとした羊は六百七十五。

³⁸and the oxen were thirty-six thousand, and the tribute thereof for Jehovah, seventy-two;

³⁸牛は三万六千、そのうちから主にみつぎとしたものは七十二。

³⁹and the asses were thirty thousand five hundred, and the tribute thereof for Jehovah, sixty-one;

³⁹ろばは三万五百、そのうちから主にみつぎとしたものは六十一。

⁴⁰and the human persons were sixteen thousand, of whom the tribute for Jehovah was thirty-two persons.

⁴⁰人は一万六千、そのうちから主にみつぎとしたものは三十二人であった。

⁴¹And Moses gave the tribute of Jehovah's heave-offering to Eleazar the priest, as Jehovah had commanded Moses.

⁴¹モーセはそのみつぎを主にささげる物として祭司エレアザルに渡した。主がモーセに命じられたとおりである。

⁴²And of the children of Israel's half, which Moses had divided, [taking it] from the men that served in the war,

⁴²モーセが戦いに出た人々とは別にイスラエルの人々に与えた半分、

⁴³(now the half belonging to the assembly was of the sheep, three hundred and thirty-seven thousand five hundred,

⁴³すなわち会衆の受けた半分は羊三十三万七千五百、

⁴⁴and thirty-six thousand oxen,

⁴⁴牛三万六千、

⁴⁵and thirty thousand five hundred asses,

⁴⁵ろば三万五百、

⁴⁶and sixteen thousand human persons,)

⁴⁶人一万六千であって、

⁴⁷... of the children of Israel's half, Moses took one portion of fifty, of man and of cattle, and gave them to the Levites who kept the charge of the tabernacle of Jehovah; as Jehovah had commanded Moses.

⁴⁷モーセはイスラエルの人々の受けた半分のなかから、人および獣をおのおの五十ごとに一つを取って、主の幕屋の務をするレビびとに与えた。主がモーセに命じられたとおりである。

⁴⁸And the officers who were over the thousands of the host, the captains of thousands, and captains of hundreds, came near to Moses,

⁴⁸時に軍勢の将であったものども、すなわち千人の長たちと百人の長たちとがモーセのところにきて、

⁴⁹and they said to Moses, Thy servants have taken the sum of the men of war who were under our hand, and there is not one man of us lacking.

⁴⁹モーセに言った、「しもべらは、指揮下のいくさびとを数えましたが、われわれのうち、ひとりも欠けた者はありませんでした。

⁵⁰So we present the offering of Jehovah, that which each one hath found, jewels of gold, chains, and bracelets, rings, earrings, and necklaces, to make atonement for our souls before Jehovah.

⁵⁰それで、われわれは、おのおの手に入れた金の飾り物、すなわち腕飾り、腕輪、指輪、耳輪、首飾りなどを主に携えてきて供え物とし、主の前にわれわれの命のあがないをしようと思います」。

⁵¹And Moses and Eleazar the priest took the gold of them, all manner of wrought jewels.

⁵¹モーセと祭司エレアザルとは、彼らから細工を施した金の飾り物を受け取った。

⁵²And all the gold of the heave-offering that they offered to Jehovah was sixteen thousand seven hundred and fifty shekels, from the captains of thousands and the captains of hundreds.

⁵²千人の長たちと百人の長たちとが、主にささげものとした金は合わせて一万六千七百五十シケル。

⁵³(The men of war had taken spoil each one for himself.)

⁵³いくさびとは、おのおの自分のぶんどり物を獲た。モーセと祭司エレアザルとは、千人の長たちと百人の長たちとから、その金を受け取り、それを携えて会見の幕屋に入り、主の前に置いてイスラエルの人々のために記念とした。

⁵⁴And Moses and Eleazar the priest took the gold of the captains of thousands and of hundreds, and brought it into the tent of meeting, as a memorial for the children of Israel before Jehovah.

⁵⁴モーセと祭司エレアザルとは、千人の長たちと百人の長たちとから、その金を受け取り、それを携えて会見の幕屋に入り、主の前に置いてイスラエルの人々のために記念とした。
