¹And Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying,

¹여호와께서 모세에게 일러 가라사대

²Avenge the children of Israel upon the Midianites; afterwards shalt thou be gathered unto thy peoples.

²이스라엘 자손의 원수를 미디안에게 갚으라 그 후에 네가 네 조상에게로 돌아가리라

³And Moses spoke to the people, saying, Arm from amongst you men for military service, that they go against Midian to execute Jehovah's vengeance upon Midian.

³모세가 백성에게 일러 가로되 `너희 중에서 사람을 택하여 싸움에 나갈 준비를 시키고 미디안을 치러 보내어서 여호와의 원수를 미디안에게 갚되

⁴Of every tribe a thousand, of all the tribes of Israel, shall ye send to the war.

⁴이스라엘 모든 지파에 대하여 각 지파에서 일천인씩을 싸움에 보낼지니라' 하매

⁵And there were levied out of the thousands of Israel, a thousand by tribe, twelve thousand armed for war.

⁵매 지파에서 일천인씩 이스라엘 천만인 중에서 일만 이천인을 택하여 무장을 시킨지라

⁶And Moses sent them to the war, a thousand by the tribe, them and Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest, to the war, and the holy instruments, even the alarm-trumpets in his hand.

⁶모세가 매 지파에 일천인씩 싸움에 보내되 제사장 엘르아살의 아들 비느하스에게 성소의 기구와 신호 나팔을 들려서 그들과 함께 싸움에 보내매

⁷And they warred against Midian, as Jehovah had commanded Moses, and slew all the males.

⁷그들이 여호와께서 모세에게 명하신 대로 미디안을 쳐서 그 남자를 다 죽였고

⁸And they slew the kings of Midian, besides the others slain, Evi, and Rekem, and Zur, and Hur, and Reba, five kings of Midian; and Balaam the son of Beor they slew with the sword.

⁸그 죽인 자 외에 미디안의 다섯 왕을 죽였으니 미디안의 왕들은 에위와, 레겜과, 수르와, 후르와, 레바이며 또 브올의 아들 발람을 칼로 죽였더라

⁹And the children of Israel took the women of Midian captives, and their little ones, and took for a spoil all their cattle and all their flocks and all their goods;

⁹이스라엘 자손이 미디안의 부녀들과 그 아이들을 사로잡고 그 가축과 양떼와 재물을 다 탈취하고

¹⁰and all their cities in their settlements and all their encampments they burned with fire.

¹⁰그 거처하는 성읍들과 촌락을 다 불사르고

¹¹And they took all the booty, and all the prey, of man and of cattle;

¹¹탈취한 것, 노략한 것, 사람과, 짐승을 다 취하니라

¹²and they brought to Moses and Eleazar the priest, and to the assembly of the children of Israel, the captives and the prey and the booty, to the camp in the plains of Moab, which are by the Jordan of Jericho.

¹²그들이 사로잡은 자와 노략한 것과 탈취한 것을 가지고 여리고 맞은편 요단 가 모압 평지의 진에 이르러 모세와 제사장 엘르아살과 이스라엘 자손의 회중에게로 나아오니라

¹³And Moses and Eleazar the priest and all the princes of the assembly went forth to meet them outside the camp.

¹³모세와 제사장 엘르아살과 회중의 족장들이 다 진 밖에 나가서 영접하다가

¹⁴And Moses was wroth with the officers of the army, with the captains of thousands, and captains of hundreds, who came from the service of the war;

¹⁴모세가 군대의 장관 곧 싸움에서 돌아온 천부장들과 백부장들에게 노하니라

¹⁵and Moses said to them, Have ye saved all the women alive?

¹⁵모세가 그들에게 이르되 너희가 여자들을 다 살려두었느냐 ?

¹⁶Lo, these, through the counsel of Balaam, caused the children of Israel to commit sin against Jehovah in the matter of Peor, and there was a plague on the assembly of Jehovah.

¹⁶보라 이들이 발람의 꾀를 좇아 이스라엘 자손으로 브올의 사건에 여호와 앞에 범죄케 하여 여호와의 회중에 염병이 일어나게 하였느니라

¹⁷And now slay every male among the little ones, and slay every woman that hath known man by lying with him,

¹⁷그러므로 아이들 중에 남자는 다 죽이고 남자와 동침하여 사내를 안 여자는 다 죽이고

¹⁸but all the children among the women that have not known lying with a man, keep alive for yourselves.

¹⁸남자와 동침하지 아니하여 사내를 알지 못하는 여자들은 다 너희를 위하여 살려둘 것이니라

¹⁹And encamp outside the camp seven days; whoever hath killed a person, and whoever hath touched any slain; ye shall purify yourselves on the third day, and on the seventh day, you and your captives.

¹⁹너희는 칠일동안 진 밖에 주둔하라 무릇 살인자나 죽임을 당한 시체를 만진 자나 제 삼일과 제 칠일에 몸을 깨끗케 하고 너희의 포로도 깨끗케 할 것이며

²⁰And every garment, and every vessel of skin, and all work of goat's hair, and every utensil of wood shall ye purify.

²⁰무릇 의복과 무릇 가죽으로 만든 것과 무릇 염소 털로 만든 것과 무릇 나무로 만든 것을 다 깨끗케 할지니라

²¹And Eleazar the priest said to the men of war that had gone to the battle, This is the statute of the law which Jehovah hath commanded Moses.

²¹제사장 엘르아살이 싸움에 나갔던 군인들에게 이르되 `이는 여호와께서 모세에게 명하신 법률이니라

²²Only the gold, and the silver, the copper, the iron, the tin, and the lead,

²²금, 은, 동, 철과 상납과 납의

²³everything that passeth through the fire, ye shall make it go through the fire, and it shall be clean; only it shall be purified with the water of separation; and everything that cannot pass through the fire ye shall make go through the water.

²³무릇 불에 견딜 만한 물건은 불을 지나게 하라 그리하면 깨끗하려니와 오히려 정결케 하는 물로 그것을 깨끗케 할 것이며 무릇 불에 견디지 못할 모든 것은 물을 지나게 할 것이니라

²⁴And ye shall wash your garments on the seventh day, and ye shall be clean; and afterwards ye may come into the camp.

²⁴너희는 제 칠일에 옷을 빨아서 깨끗케 한 후에 진에 들어 올지니라'

²⁵And Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying,

²⁵여호와께서 모세에게 일러 가라사대

²⁶Take the sum of the prey that was taken, of man and of cattle, thou, and Eleazar the priest, and the chief fathers of the assembly;

²⁶너는 제사장 엘르아살과 회중의 족장들을 더불어 이 탈취한 사람과 짐승을 계수하고

²⁷and divide the prey into halves, between them that conducted the war, who went out to the battle, and the whole assembly.

²⁷그 얻은 물건을 반분하여 그 절반은 싸움에 나갔던 군인들에게 주고 절반은 회중에게 주고

²⁸And thou shalt levy a tribute for Jehovah of the men of war who went out to the army, one soul of five hundred of the persons, and of the oxen, and of the asses, and of the small cattle.

²⁸싸움에 나갔던 군인들로는 사람이나 소나 나귀나 양떼의 오백분지 일을 여호와께 드리게 하되

²⁹Of their half shall ye take it, and give it unto Eleazar the priest, for a heave-offering of Jehovah.

²⁹곧 이를 그들의 절반에서 취하여 여호와의 거제로 제사장 엘르아살에게 주고

³⁰And of the children of Israel's half, thou shalt take one portion of fifty, of the persons, of the oxen, of the asses, and of the small cattle, of every [kind of] beasts, and thou shalt give them unto the Levites, who keep the charge of the tabernacle of Jehovah.

³⁰또 이스라엘 자손의 얻은 절반에서는 사람이나 소나 나귀나 양떼나 각종 짐승을 오십분지 일을 취하여 여호와의 성막을 맡은 레위인에게 주라

³¹And Moses and Eleazar the priest did as Jehovah had commanded Moses.

³¹모세와 제사장 엘르아살이 여호와께서 모세에게 명하신 대로 하니라

³²And the prey, the rest of the spoil, which the men of war had taken, was six hundred and seventy-five thousand sheep,

³²그 탈취물 곧 군인들의 다른 탈취물 외에 양이 육십 칠만 오천이요

³³and seventy-two thousand oxen,

³³소가 칠만 이천이요

³⁴and sixty-one thousand asses,

³⁴나귀가 육만 일천이요

³⁵and of human persons, of the women that had not known lying with a man, all the persons were thirty-two thousand.

³⁵사람은 남자와 동침하지 아니하여서 사내를 알지 못하는 여자가 도합 삼만 이천이니

³⁶And the half, the portion of them that had gone out to the war, was in number three hundred and thirty-seven thousand five hundred sheep,

³⁶그 절반 곧 싸움에 나갔던 자들의 소유가 양이 삼십 삼만 칠천 오백이라

³⁷and the tribute for Jehovah of the sheep was six hundred and seventy-five;

³⁷여호와께 세로 드린 양이 육백 칠십 오요

³⁸and the oxen were thirty-six thousand, and the tribute thereof for Jehovah, seventy-two;

³⁸소가 삼만 육천이라 그 중에서 여호와께 세로 드린 것이 칠십 이두요

³⁹and the asses were thirty thousand five hundred, and the tribute thereof for Jehovah, sixty-one;

³⁹나귀가 삼만 오백이라 그 중에서 여호와께 세로 드린 것이 육십 일이요

⁴⁰and the human persons were sixteen thousand, of whom the tribute for Jehovah was thirty-two persons.

⁴⁰사람이 일만 육천이라 그 중에서 여호와께 세로 드린 자가 삼십 이명이니

⁴¹And Moses gave the tribute of Jehovah's heave-offering to Eleazar the priest, as Jehovah had commanded Moses.

⁴¹여호와께 거제의 세로 드린 것을 모세가 제사장 엘르아살에게 주었으니 여호와께서 모세에게 명하심과 같았더라

⁴²And of the children of Israel's half, which Moses had divided, [taking it] from the men that served in the war,

⁴²모세가 싸움에 나갔던 자에게서 나누어 취하여 이스라엘 자손에게 준 절반

⁴³(now the half belonging to the assembly was of the sheep, three hundred and thirty-seven thousand five hundred,

⁴³곧 회중의 얻은 절반은 양이 삼십 삼만 칠천 오백이요

⁴⁴and thirty-six thousand oxen,

⁴⁴소가 삼만 육천이요

⁴⁵and thirty thousand five hundred asses,

⁴⁵나귀가 삼만 오백이요

⁴⁶and sixteen thousand human persons,)

⁴⁶사람이 일만 육천이라

⁴⁷... of the children of Israel's half, Moses took one portion of fifty, of man and of cattle, and gave them to the Levites who kept the charge of the tabernacle of Jehovah; as Jehovah had commanded Moses.

⁴⁷이스라엘 자손의 그 절반에서 모세가 사람이나 짐승의 오십분지 일을 취하여 여호와의 장막을 맡은 레위인에게 주었으니 여호와께서 모세에게 명하심과 같았더라

⁴⁸And the officers who were over the thousands of the host, the captains of thousands, and captains of hundreds, came near to Moses,

⁴⁸군대의 장관들 곧 천부장과 백부장들이 모세에게 나아와서

⁴⁹and they said to Moses, Thy servants have taken the sum of the men of war who were under our hand, and there is not one man of us lacking.

⁴⁹그에게 고하되 `당신의 종들의 영솔한 군인을 계수한즉 우리 중 한 사람도 축나지 아니하였기로

⁵⁰So we present the offering of Jehovah, that which each one hath found, jewels of gold, chains, and bracelets, rings, earrings, and necklaces, to make atonement for our souls before Jehovah.

⁵⁰우리 각 사람의 얻은 바 금 패물 곧 발목고리, 손목고리, 인장반지, 귀고리, 팔고리들을 여호와의 예물로 우리의 생명을 위하여 여호와 앞에 속죄하려고 가져왔나이다'

⁵¹And Moses and Eleazar the priest took the gold of them, all manner of wrought jewels.

⁵¹모세와 제사장 엘르아살이 그들에게서 그 금으로 만든 모든 패물을 취한즉

⁵²And all the gold of the heave-offering that they offered to Jehovah was sixteen thousand seven hundred and fifty shekels, from the captains of thousands and the captains of hundreds.

⁵²천부장과 백부장들이 여호와께 드린 거제의 금의 도합이 일만 육천 칠백 오십 세겔이니

⁵³(The men of war had taken spoil each one for himself.)

⁵³군인들이 각기 자기를 위하여 탈취한 것이라

⁵⁴And Moses and Eleazar the priest took the gold of the captains of thousands and of hundreds, and brought it into the tent of meeting, as a memorial for the children of Israel before Jehovah.

⁵⁴모세와 제사장 엘르아살이 천부장과 백부장들에게서 금을 취하여 회막에 드려서 여호와 앞에 이스라엘 자손의 기념을 삼았더라
